As a guitarist who generally uses set it and forget it style tones, switching to bass and finding 6+ knob comps was incredibly intimidating. This not only sounds fantastic, but the interface is way more friendly for those that just want to turn on a pedal and play. I'll have to pick this up!
Noisy pedal? Turn it around, remove the four screws and in the right top corner you'll notice a little trimpot. Turn it to the right and the noise will increase, adjust it to the left, look for the sweetspot and everything will be fine. Just like you would do with a noise gate.
+Iville18 Yup Flea played "Higher Ground" but you know its written by Stevie Wonder. Check it out . Flea was energetic and a bit thrashy. Stevie's bass players have got groove.
I've had the MXR bass comp.,the TC Electronic Spectracomp, the Markbass tube comp.,the Wampler comp, and the EBS multiband comp. Out of all those compressors, with the exception of the Markbass, I don't regret getting rid of everyone of them for the EHX Bass Preacher. Are there better bass compressors out there? Sure there is. Alot would say everyone i got rid of is better. For my needs, this pedal is A#1 for me.
definitely considering this one. I've been meaning to get a compressor to even out my sound. and this one is pretty affordable compared to any other compressor pedal.
Hi, EHX! Can you please do a demo of this pedal into the Bass Soul Food, and the Bass Soul Food into this one? Preferably with bass and guitar. :) I already own and enjoy the Bass Soul Food! Thanks!
You can actually experiment too. Hit a note, let it ring, you'll hear it go up and down as it rings. A compressor is trying to raise the volume of the note to range it is set.
It probably doesn't do what EHX just said it did. Here's how compression gives a sustaining effect, to my understanding. If a compressor is set such that the max volume it will allow is -20 dB, a 0 dB signal and a -19 dB signal will come out the other end with the same volume. This means that if you play note at 0dB, as the signal decays, no apparent volume drop will be present until the signal goes below -20 dB. Thus creating the increased sustain. If the bass preacher actually turns up the volume as the signal dies down, I believe it would be a one-of-a kind. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I just bought Soul Preacher for my Active-Pickups Bass, and to use with my guitars (both with passive and active pickups, and both high output). What are the differences between Soul Preacher and Bass Preacher?
The bass preacher is less sensitive than the Soul Preacher, so can me more subtle and less “squashed” than the Soul Preacher. Also the release time for the compression is tweaked to be smoother on bass. As far as bass is concerned I feel like the Soul Preacher works as a very intense “squashing” effect while the Bass Preacher is more of a set it and forget it leveling out of notes. Thanks.
hi everyone just one question I don't have a bass amp so I need to record the bass direct to the interface then between this BASS PREACHER n' EHX METAPHORS n' which one gives you better results to record the bass direct to interface?? I'll appreciate someone reply me t-you bye =)
Bought one a few weeks ago - good pedal! Works exactly as advertised, at a much lower cost than a lot of other bass specific compressors out there.
This comp is actually GOOD! Well done!

Nice... thanks for thinking of us bass players. Will look forward to comparing this with my current compressor.
EHX always helping out with the sound colors!
Thanks for the demo on bass and guitar, I dig the sound.

Perfect timing!!! Was just looking to buy a compressor for my bass rig... Guess I found my solution to pair with my Hot Tubes & Bass Soul Food ;)
Love the use of flea's bassline there

+Peter Stephen not any more their dead
+Eric sin sinner Stevie Wonder is not dead fyi...
+Apostrophe Think he was talking about Flea. He's not dead either. It was a prank.

I love the sound of this pedal. That Groove kill *_*

This comment is very useful. Thanks!
Sweet Fernandes man

The best compressor
and after I just tinkered with a Soul Preacher to get it to work with my bass!

Pretty awesome
By the way nice fender jazz bass that's exactly what I want
+Ethan Reed I believe that's a Fernandes jazz bass
This does not at all demonstrate this pedals utility
I wanna try this on a baritone
Apologies for the q, but why is this called sustainer? Is comp not just squashing of frequencies. How does sustaining come into it?
So the comp keeps the harmonies self oscillating??
As the signal dies down it turns the volume up creating the effect of sustain

I might have to buy one because the compressor in my EHX Battalion doesn't work at all. It's the one slip up on an otherwise superb preamp/DI.
