  • My family and I took an epic journey to Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia to visit the world-famous Cabot Trail. We spent one week in Mid-July of 2023. It was an amazing experience and I'm already thinking about our return visit. We booked our flights through Expedia.com 3 months in advance. We flew out of Montreal into Halifax using Flair Airlines and returned with them too.
We are NOT sponsored by any of the featured businesses and are simply sharing information out of our experience. We hope it guides your research as you plan your Nova Scotian adventure. We definitely recommend you come check out this beautiful and unique place.

    Our Itinerary:
Day 1-(July 10, 2023) Load up car, grab passports, drive 2 hours to Montreal. Park car for the week and fly Flair airlines from Montreal's Pierre Trudeau (YUL) to Halifax (YHZ) 7:10 pm - 9:50 pm. Shuttle to Quality Inn. Spend overnight.
Day 2- (July 11, 2023) Wake up, check out of Quality Inn hotel, purchase rental car, drive 4 + hours to Air BnB in Englishtown, Cape Breton. We made a pit stop at Truro to buy food at Sobeys. Meet Yolanda and check in, get situated, check out waterfront. Make homemade meal.
Day 3- (July 12, 2023) rainy day, we go out and eat at Clucking Hen, I fly drone at Sea Parrot and kids explore waterfront, we rest and sleep early.
Day 4-(July 13, 2023) Late start to the day, not feeling 100%, rainy still, take small drive with my youngest son up Cape Smokey, return and walk waterfront by AirBnB to quartz cave, make homemade meal, get ready for tomorrow.
Day 5- (July 14, 2023) Wake up, first nice day, today we drive the eastern side of Cape Breton visiting Cape Smokey, Ingonish Beach, Lakies Head, Black Brook Cove, Neil's Harbour, White Point, Warren Lake, we eat out at Main Street restaurant and bakery, fly drone near crystal cave. Set up nightlapse overlooking the AirBnB.
Day 6- (July 15, 2023) wake up and catch sunrise seeing seals in the harbor, we drive clockwise around Cabot Trail doing a full loop, we go to Baddeck harbour, Margaree and Belle Cote, Chetticamp, Petit Etang, bog trail walk, MacKenzie Overlook, we stop at Ingonish North Bay beach to swim 1.5 hours, return home, make homemade meal. Set up nightlapse by water's edge.
Day 7- (July 16, 2023) Wake up and catch sunrise by the water, we get late jump on day after breakfast, we go back to Black Brook Beach. This time we go near waterfall and play in water. We hike up behind waterfall and do the overlook. Drive back to Neil's Harbour and go to beach. Spend time looking for sea glass. Return back and have dinner at Clucking Hen again. Set up 3rd nightlapse that failed
Day 8- (July 17, 2023) Catch sunrise, check out, drive 4 hours back, return rental car, shuttle to airport, 5:40pm flight YHZ to YUL 7:00pm. Get car and return home.

I hope you had a great trip! We wish we spent more time on that side of the CT. This lookout spot is iconic and not to be missed.

It’s sad that you missed out on Route 19 through Port Hood, Judique & Troy. It’s simply breathtaking. Also the sunset on the western side of Cape Breton is like no other. Thank you the beautiful & amazing video. I will returning this summer.

Great video and thanks for the tips on the trails and restaurants. Renting an Airbnb in Margaree valley this September for a few days to do the trails and the complete drive. This is my favourite place in the Maritimes by far. There’s an excellent bakery called Aucoin bakery in Cheticamp if you’re back that way again. New Brunswick also has some great trails like the Fundy park and the Fundy parkway. Thanks again

Thank you for your comment and suggestions! When, not if, we come back, I will try Aucoin bakery and will have to check our more of New Brunswick too. The last time we came to Nova Scotia, we stayed in Wolfville near the Bay of Fundy and were fascinated by changing tides & landscape in that region. I hope you have a wonderful trip in September. Cheers and thanks for visiting the channel!

@@Worldtraveller624 Thank you for your comment! We stayed at the Sea Parrot Ocean View Manor. We walked down to the beachfront there, took a left turn (heading north) and walked about 1-hour along the beach until we stumbled upon the rock formations. I suspect that it is very close to the Clucking Hen bakery.

You must have heard this misinformation from someone in Baddeck (pronounced ba- deck) there are numerous grocery stores in small communities and fantastic restaurants, and take outs but it is true gas stations are scarce, keep your tank at half and you should be ok
