I live in Pennsylvania and this is really a hike for us, two day of long long driving each day, just to get to Baddeck NS. We always say it took us 40+ years to get there . Planned this trip for years but never made it until June of 2018. I really wish we would have gone earlier when the kids were in their teens. It is well worth it. It is an underrated destination. I can see why because it is very difficult to get to even for Canadians. I'll be 75 if we make it back in 2022 like we plan. Wish l could hike and explore more but health cares reasons prevent it. Got to make it to Nova Scotia one more time. Go now don't wait.
thanks for the video! it's crazy how many of us cape bretoners spend our lives here, in towns like sydney or glace bay but never get to see some of the sights CB has to offer. i'm glad you enjoyed your stay! Margaree, cheticamp, Ingonish and Louisbourg are MUST see's by the way!
I’m currently in the planning stages of an RV roadtrip to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland for summer (now thinking early fall because of your mentioning) of 2024. It’ll be a LONG road trip from Northern California with a few friends and their RVs joining us along the way. I had originally thought only of Nova Scotia, but learning so much about NL I know it has to be included. We’re all 64, retired or about to be, and don’t want to put these bucket list items off any longer. It’s just so hard to know what sights to include or not. We’re all in good shape, love to walk/hike. I’ll be checking your channel for more videos to help me plan. I loved this video as you got right to the point in each tip. Well done, thanks!
Sounds like a great trip! If you have any questions or we can help in any way, just give a shout. NS and NL are spectacular, you'll love visiting. NB and PEI have lots of hidden gems too!
Peak leaf season is about Oct 10-14th! Also Celtic Colours is on for fantastic music at this time around the island. The gondola at ski cape smokey is well worth the trip up for the colours and view too!
Hey! Thank u for your advice on visiting Cape Breton. I will be travelling from Belgium and start our roadtrip in Montreal to Cape Breton, August September. Look forward to it! 😊
Go to a square dance. Even in the sticks, they are really fun, and can be a great way to meet the community. Also, they sell drink tickets. 20 bucks gets you 10 drinks. They free pour. So you are leaving hammered.
im visiting cape breton in June and have been trying to find places to go. Do you know any good square dancing bars or cities that have the best bars over there? thanks so much :)
@@littleliv8132 Can’t drop links, but one of the best square dancing places is “West Mabou” it’s faar out in the boonies, but they are often attended by many young people from all over NS. Usually held on Sat nights, run into 1-2 AM. They have drink tickets, which make it cheap as hell to drink, and they free pour. Hosted at West Mabou hall. As for good bars, stick to Sydney. The Old Triangle, Daniels, Steel City (Wed night) are all a great time. If you want to get greasy, the Capri is always an option, but only for sloppy nights. One of my favourite swimming spots that I don’t think any tourists know of is “Polar Bear Beach” which is in South Bar. It isn’t as impressive as like Ingo or black brook beach, but it is close to sydney, and I have tonnes of great memories there. As for food, The Bonney Prince is great for a pub style food (Wings and Poutine is my favourite). Kenneys Pizza is my favourite (controversial). Might not be worth going to like Glace Bay (Miners museum is really cool though) or New Waterford, which are like the two other “cities” in Cape Breton. Iona Highland village and Fort of Louisburg are really cool for history. The Highlands are where Cb really shines though, Ingonish, the Cabot trail etc.
@@kgm4556 WOW!!! thank you so much for all this info! I'm searching up these places as I read lol! Definitely going to go to one of these bars on my stay. @@littleliv8132 Hahah thanks! Enjoy the trip. certainly a great place to visit. Nice people, and Sydney is really starting to turn around economically.
One of our highlights on our second trip was to visit Meat Cove, beautiful place. Yeah, been twice, love to go back again and spend more time and ferry over to Newfoundland also.
Cape Breton in September is awesome, October can get a little chilly in an RV. We did Nova Scotia in an RV in mid-to-end September which was pretty epic. October would have been to cold in an RV from our point of view, but still an awesome time of the year. Target for this year was March to get some snow and winter, but with Covid we can´t fly over even though we have property now.
@@TravelingMaritimers I've been looking at renting a house for the trip down there. The prices are pretty reasonable especially later in the fall and if I go down as a group of five or six. Of course, I will have to wait for the travel ban to be lifted. I normally travel down to the Maritimes each summer but didn't make the trip down there this year.
It should be illegal not to go around the Cabot Trail. People argue about which is the best way to go,my answer is to go both ways, gives a different view and a chance to stop and visit where you didn't have time before.
I live here in CB and we do the trail on the motorcycles on average 6 or 7 times a Summer into Fall. We generally alternate direction of travel as the views seem to be different each way!,,,5 Hours will take you around if you are not intent of playing anywhere.
If you're traveling the Cabot Trail, our favorite hike, by far, was the Skyline Trail near the Cheticamp side of the National Park. We didn't actually get to do any kayaking while we were there, but The Bras D'Or Lakes region looked amazing. I'm sure you'll have fun regardless of what you end up doing. Hope you have an awesome time!

Agreed, when possible. But on much of the Cabot Trail it actually is very hard to do since there is almost no shoulder. You need some room for a full size truck and 26 foot travel trailer to pull over.
I admit what it's about: not as smart men not being the part of extra intelligent rights, but those can be figured out, without a need for a scope of a bureaucracy that isn't as free as free. Food is love, though, for slow languid women to chastise populations with which moralists grow or not.
I’m going to Cape Breton in a week. I’m from California. 13 hours by plane, three layovers. But, man, am I excited.

What does maritimers means in the title of your page?
Hi, it refers to the name for the Eastern Canadian provinces where we live and do most of our traveling. Thanks for watching!
Yeah it's newfoundland nova scotia and prince Edward Island which are referred to as maritimers. Newbrunswick is part of Ontario like quebec.

NO BYE, go when you can live off of blackberries in Brooktrout for a weekend.
When traveling through them mountains always use low gear i have seen a few smoking brakes from cars rv s trucks going down them mountains
Yes! Definitely agree. Also if your truck has any sort of tow / haul mode that enable engine braking, do that too.
