Girl! You are the queen of being able to pot up any plant in any planter! And I admire how you can just chop and prop any plant! I have a tendency to be like “I’m just gonna buy another plant to make it fuller.” (Like I need to spend the money lol). By watching you, I HAVE gotten more confident with chopping and propping. I’ve also learned to make my own moss poles from you. Thank you for sharing your plant journey!

Hey Fern,
Next time try putting the soil into the moss pole upside down, and put the empty pot upside down on the pole so it's where you want it and flip them both together. Then fill a bit with soil (two inches) put the plant in, move the roots around the pole as best as you can, and then fill with soil.
That's what works best for me. I use terracotta but I don't think it'll be any different.

Hi Fern, another planty you tuber I watch has moss pole planting down pat. She lays the moss pole down and puts the pot on its side and places the pole inside the pot. Then fills the bottom pole with soil. Then adds plant/ roots. Then start filling up with soil. I myself prefer wood planks. Moss is so messy. Love your stories and your plant content. And, Olive is so adorable!

I love philodendron as of late as well! I also agree that the miracle grow perlite is basically a bag of dust.
I agree with the miracle grow perlite. That stuff is crap, won't make that mistake again,lol.
I always want to give you a full body hug when you say that only you could do something so silly etc, because it feels so self-critical 💚 We are all silly sometimes or in one way or another. I do silly or completely thoughtless stuff all the time, like making things much more difficult for myself than necessary 😂 You’re doing great, sweetie! 👏👏

I forgot to write a comment on the plant updates so I'll leave it here. I think this is a normal thing for fully variegated parts to be smaller than green or marbly variegated ones. Aditionally, I would change places of the philodendrons on the wall. Just move them as close as possible to the brightest corner in order as they're now. It should help them a bit. And in the darker corner I recommend just golden pothos. It will probably get fully green and the leaves will get small but they should be very fine in every spot. And Greta variety of epipremnum would do well as I heard. AND OF COURSE I am super exited for your fall/halloween decors and spooky repots. You made me enjoy the season last year and I'm glad to be enjoying it this year as well!

I had wanted a majestic for forever and then you got yours, and it was so exactly what I wanted, so perfect, that I immediately went online and bought mine literally while I was watching your haul. Random, but those plastic back moss poles remind me of the Ikea “variera” plastic bag holder/dispenser, except those are way bigger 😂 if I had like a massive monstera or something I wanted to pole, I would experiment with using one of those

I'm wondering why you didn't get a bigger pot for it... Is that not good? Do they like being root bound? Idk 🙈

I don't think it was really root bound. A lot of vining/climbing plants don't mind being slightly root bound anyway. If you repot a plant and give the roots space to grow they tend to focus their energy on growing roots instead, so they don't push out new leaves for awhile... From my understanding.

If you want to put soil in the bottom you could hold it with the back horizontal put the soil in the bottom and quickly put it into the pot then just put some soil in the bottom and then the plant etc 😊 I love your videos!!
Hey girl! I usually fill the end of the pile up and hold it carefully while holding the pot on it’s side to slide the moss pole in (if that makes sense ) then add some potting mix to the bottom of the pot and add the plant and of course back fill. It’s a little complicated but that’s the best bet I’ve found works especially with adding chunky mix to the bottom of the moss pole. Some will fall out but it’s totally okay.
Also a bigger pot would of really helped :) but girl your the queen of making anything fit hahaha ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Great video Fern! Hope you are having a great camping trip! I notice I have an easier time trellising plants if they are thirsty. They are more bendy and less leaf breakage. Beautiful plant!

Nice specimen. I saw you had two root systems at the bottom. Think I would have chopped the bottom node, too, for myself, and then sold the top cutting to get some money back.
I usually fill the pole laying down flat (including substrate in the bottom), then attach the plant (still laying down), then put it all in the pot.

I think you can find it at any pet store. It’s used for reptile enclosures (called Repti Bark). I get mine from pet smart, it’s probably on Amazon as well, hopefully that helps😬

Does anyone know where to get that style of pot from, looks sturdy.
Does the plastic container have holes? I used the same moss pole and just zip tied it to the container which made it easier to repot.
