Your sentiment about washing dishes and mundane tasks reminds me a quote by Thich Nhat Hanh. 💚 It's good to appreciate the little tasks in life! "If while washing dishes, we think only of the cup of tea that awaits us, thus hurrying to get the dishes out of the way as if they were a nuisance, then we are not “washing the dishes to wash the dishes.” What’s more, we are not alive during the time we are washing the dishes. In fact we are completely incapable of realizing the miracle of life while standing at the sink. If we can’t wash the dishes, the chances are we won’t be able to drink our tea either. While drinking the cup of tea, we will only be thinking of other things, barely aware of the cup in our hands. Thus we are sucked away into the future-and we are incapable of actually living one minute of life.”
I miss living alone. I often think of you and how you’re at the stage of life where you get to truly enjoy time with yourself and find yourself and your path. I rushed in my 20s and just went down the wrong path for awhile. I’m finally trying to get back on the right one but I just wanna say shout out to you for doing what makes you happy. Being free of anyone or anything that dims your aura. It makes me so happy to see people who are so comfortable with their own beings and living alone and not just always trying to find the next “relationship” basically. It took heartbreak for me to learn that solidarity is truly such a wonderful experience and I do miss it so much but I’ll have to wait until my kids are moved out to get that back 🤣🥰💚 another wonderful chill video to relax and listen to! Thanks, Fern!🫶🏻
I hear ya I loved living alone when I was younger it was so nice. I just wish I knew then, what I know now I would've done some things differently. I also went down a wrong path wish I would've made better choices.
i'm soo lucky my dad has a 3D printer and he prints me nursery pots that fit in every cover pot i have. for so long that was so frustrating for me too when pots wouldn't fit, but now i'm all good lol
The thing about the plant craze is that I just wish people had moderated themselves, getting just a few plants here and there, researching them, giving them the appropriate care etc. I feel like the trend would have moderated too and continued for much longer. At the end of the day, I really want more people to love plants as much as I do, and the nature of social media/human nature kind of ruined that prospect. Hopefully I will live long enough to see another resurgence in the next generation
I don't know, I guess I just have a different data set; I feel like most people I talk to around me are interested in them and I always have eager homes for my propogations and most of them are thriving even with their new plant parents!
@@charliroman6307 exactly, your people are not a part of the 'plant craze', bless them - I even have the same type of experience, it's just not the same as what is overwhelmingly on social media
I totally relate to your preference for living alone. My home is my sacred space to unwind and feel calm. 🧘🏻♀️I live with my partner now, but I remember fondly when I had a place all to myself. 😄
Yes yes yes, about what you said about the nurserypots and the never fitting cover pots😆. I sometimes end op cutting off the tops of the nurserypots but there should be some standard matching sizing for this, haha
The whole planters and trying to find nursery pots to fit thing is totally relatable! So annoying. I currently have a few empty planters /cover pots because I got the sizes wrong. Spooky season /autumn has always been my favourite season although as I've got older, I really appreciate summer much more. But the cool crisp air, trees turning golden, hot chocolate, cosy days of autumn always make me happy. Even though I, too, suffer from depression etc. Hugs for Olive 🤗❤😊
My paralell peperomia was my first (peperomia), and I'm happy to say it's still alive! I should repot her soon. It's also in terracotta, and I know when it needs to be watered when I gently squeeze the base leaves next to the soil. If they're easy to bend width wise, wait a day or two and then water. Doesn't need water when they are still stiff! I only water 1 to 2 times a month, and also love that it still grows in the winter time when others go dormant! Btw, I LOVE spooky season, and your spooky repots! I hope they're picked back up again this year! It's my fave trifecta... plants, spooky season, and ghost stories/ stuff, all rolled into one! Love ya!
I totally feel you on shopping for decorative pots! I'm the weirdo in the store with 4 different sized nursery pots, putting them in each pot to see what fits. Clearly there is an opportunity here for some improvement😂
Lol, I also keep forgetting the mycorrhizae when I repot. I guess it's just because it's quite a new thing. Goeppertia warcewiczii is also my favourite one, but I still haven't dared get one because the air humidity in my flat is so ridiculously low during the winter months, even with the humidifier running. I have a Goeppertia insignis (formerly Calathea lancifolia) instead which is doing alright apart from some crispy leaf tips. I also gave up on the watermelon peperomia. They're my favourite peperomia species, but it's so hard to keep them looking good. The markings on the parallel peperomia's leaves remind me of it, but the latter is so much easier to care for.
Hey Fern! When I have a cover pot that doesn’t fit any nursery pots i just use the biggest nursery pot that fits and then put something at the bottom to boost it up so it doesn’t look like it’s drowning in the pot and actually fits :)
Funny, I thought maybe you named her after Olive Reamer Frederickson from the biographical book and 1981 movie called Silence of the North. It's one of my favorite movies! It's about a woman who is trying to survive in Northern Alberta after her husband dies in the middle of winter. Set in the 1900's thru the depression. Ellen Burstyn, Tom Skerritt and Gordon Pinsent star. Wish I could watch it again or find it on DVD or even an old VHS. Love your videos! Be well, be happy, be blessed. Lois - Oregon coast, enjoying the sun before the rainy season starts. lol
Pet peeve mini-rant @19:50 - PREACH!!! And the cover pots can be so pricey... I wish I could know when I'm shopping that I'll be able to find a common nursery pot that will fit it!
I completely agree about the cache pot sizing - I have several plants in nursery pots I can’t find a cover pot for, AND vice versa 🙄💆🏾♀️ Also agree on mundane chores being therapeutic/relaxing - living alone, I also enjoy hand washing dishes and food prep (i’d make someone a great sous chef👩🏾🍳 lol) I also really like sweeping and mopping, not at all time consuming to knock out in my own teensy space 🤣
My parallel Peperomia has been growing like a weed lately! I keep it a couple feet back from an East window. I also have a grow light near it but it’s not directly under it anymore b/c it got a little bleached lol. I water when the soil is completely dry, and it does well in my normal 45% humidity living room! 🤗
Ok so I feel the same way about my peru and I did exactly what you are thinking and I put it on a arch shaped trellis and it is growing full and bushy and now Im kind of loving it again😜 have a wonderful day!!!!
I hear you on the pots… my local garden centre has lovely shallow cache pots that would be perfect for my maranta, but can I find plastic pots that would fit inside? Hell no… 😩
My favourite peperomia (aside from the hope) is peperomia incana. Slightly succulent, soft fuzzy leaves and grows and propagates so well. Highly recommend! Also totally agree about the watermelon pep. I think they look stunning when healthy, but cannot get one to thrive. Good to know I am not alone.
My peperomia watermelon was SUPER fussy for me. It eventually died. No matter what I tried. But my string of turtles is one of my easiest plants. I loveee them.
My Peperomia Hope is about a foot from a south window that has a huge cherry tree shading it and I only water it like twice a month. I wait for the oldest leaves to get ever so slightly wrinkled, then I drown it
I had my monstera Peru staked up and I really didn’t like it. It’s now being trailed in a hanging planter and the vines look so pretty! I say give yours a chance as a hanging plant before you ditch it
Ugh I also love fall and hate winter I wish it cold be fall spring summer haha winter gives e major depression …. I swear the weather really feeds now I feel
I adore my peperomia hope! And yes, I keep mine trailing and I’ve only seen other people trailing it. Now that your cuttings are in soil they’re going to take off in no time! Mine grows like a weed!!! 💚
My kronniana super silver died bad seller...she sent it twice.....I have the nova ghost and the new G ghost!....you will have them in no time! I do want the hoya Grey Ghost....that one is different...and I have a two leaf wilber graves.....which can get really sivery....your begonia is beautiful....:) you will like your peperomia :, esp the hope!

I'm obsessed with the way you're doing your buns! I actually started doing my hair like that recently and it's so cute! Also, your calathea w. is so much cuter than mine, mine is like crisping up and looks terrible. It's so sad because it's one of my favorites too! He used to be so pretty 😭 Also I love your chatty repots so I can't wait for the next one!
I just got a peperomia hope from Gabriella's plants I'm excited to give a try. I've had good luck with the obtusifolia so I'm giving a vinigh one a go. The peperomia scandens looks neat as well. It has a heart leaf philodendron vibe. I've been on such a Hoya kick lately, I got 1 cutting of 4 kinds and just bought 6 plants from gabs. Love a repot w/ me video, always fun to watch.
Ooh, be sure to give your Pep Hope lots of light or the leaves will stretch out and curl at the ends. I think SOT is adorable but I’ve killed two so BEWARE! lol. Also, Circe is one of my favorites books and I loved Song of Achilles too! You does get bogged down as the series goes. I read all three but the first one was the best. I love Peperomia. The trick is consistent watering. Sometimes if they droop they may not come back or overwatering can be just as bad. But you got this!
P. 'Hope' will trail enough it will take some space. Very soon you could double that pot size. The leaves will be bigger as it gets more established, and looks even better. It's a good grower.
I love my peperomia hope and string of turtles. I find string of turtles is easier than soh, I have 4 turtles, love them so much. Love your hair Fern, and love your shirt. Enjoy your day Fern 💚 just noticed your rainbows behind you 💚

Love the bangs. They frame your beautiful face perfectly.
I love this hairstyle on you😍 back to the split bangs
I just took my Peru off of my moss pole too!!! I put it on a circle trellis and fell in love all over again. It seriously gave it a whole new look.

I would love a plant decluttering video! 😁

Hi Fern hope your having a great day 😀
Yes I have a trailing Peru, it looks great! Just needs loads of light to stop it getting leggy
