Haltech Horsepower Heroes at Summernats 33 went off with a bang (more than one actually). This year's competition saw plenty of "firsts" including the first six cylinder to ever win the comp, the first female to do so and the biggest hp ever recorded at Summernats.

We head down to Canberra for the annual Summernats. This year, as the naming sponsor of the Haltech Horsepower Heroes we concentrated on the dyno comp itself which proved to be both exciting and surprising with plenty of "firsts" including the first six cylinder to ever win the comp, the first female to do so and the biggest hp ever recorded at Summernats! Here is how it all went down...
Good on the guy in the yellow Corolla having a crack at it with 44hp! Super clean looking car despite the underwhelming power.
@Steven Ross-watt I think they claimed 80HP from factory (might have been at the crank though ;) ) but it's been a LOOOOOONG time since my old KE55 went to the scrappy so I might be mis-remembering.
2202hp!! In a car that looks like pristine XR6 turbo. The times we live in! Unreal.
Yep, and it aint no dyno queen either. Pb of 7.76 down the quarter. Impressive car
It's a daily driven street car.... Show me a 5 or 6 second daily driver that weighs 1800kg and has full street trim.
And it better be a 4 door sedan with a factory block.
Thanks for showing the lower horsepower cars, Torries n stuff. Good way to compare what we were doing way back then to now. Unbelievable difference. Still luv the old girls but. (not the old girl's butt)

Did the corolla come 3rd in 4cyl n/a if so.. there's alot of potential for new comers... if I get my engine built..i will consider coming to have a go at forced 4cyl

Pretty awesome 2 Aussie designed engines have won the last 2 horsepower heroes, the barra is nipping at Bubbas heels

14:49 Pretty stout for NA. Sounds like the ramp rate was too slow on the dyno.
Wasn't the ramp rate. It made that power at only 3800 rpm. Engine and cam are set up for a turbo, just didnt have time to install it before the Summernats.

Being a methanol car- you only need to be careful in a 5 mile radius to their shop!!! LOL! 😅
There's no way that blue VT made 900hp in that run shown.

2 6 cylinders have won in previous years so Maria isn't the first 6 to win. Mick Daniels won in 2014 and Adrian Abella won in 2010.
Oh man, when I build an engine for my car it should be able to win that turbo 4 class. I'm shooting for 200hp but with rods, pistons, and more boost it would make 400 easily. Could probably make 600 through 8 valves if I spent money on a SPA Turbo head. Only problem is that I'm in Canada, bot Australia.
that blue porsche was weak. i could have brought my almost stock b series 1.6 civic and it would have pushed more. 🤣

The wife's Mazda CX-5 also has 1200hp but I don't enter it in competitions or take it to the drags, show it to anyone, take pictures of it or post them on the internet...it's pretty much like a unicorn really!
