Oldshovel is definitely one of my favorite channels on YuoTube!!! Ingo from Germany wishes you and your family good luck and, above all, health in the new year.😃👍🚲
I really love the content, have watched your vids for years. I did watch all the way to the end! Especially enjoyed the Surly build- what a difference! Your calm demeanor and fantastic finds and restoration projects make this my favorite channel. Thanks!
I have watched all these builds and this recap was great to see. I especially love the 90's era mtb's you redid, because if you were lucky enough to experience the early days of mtn biking, you'll understand how good some of these bikes actually rode. Yes, I know the modern bikes of today are even better, but regardless, the joy of riding hasn't changed. Keep giving old things new life and Happy New Year!
I have a 2020 SID World Cup Brain 29”, in perfect working condition. I listed it on Pink Bike a few months ago, in the hopes of selling it, with little luck. However, rather than do that, I would love to donate to you/your show, in the hopes that it could be used on a future build.
keep things retro i made my first step into vintage race bikes this year she butifull and really light running downtown on her a dream and so easy i have my specialized mountain bike hard tail and an old chayote ft im restoring at minute but its the enjoyment of the build then riding something you put together that's perfect i cant get enough of it my home full of bicycles wating be restored
It took me a couple of pauses, but I did watch the full video. Really enjoyed revisiting your builds from 2023. Also, good luck in your new channel, I will sub.
Piękna robota 🙂👍Podoba mi się 😍 Odrestaurowany po mojemu. Chcielbym miec taki. Gratuluję pojęcia, gustu, poczucia estetyki i umiejętności. Poza tym piękny, nie przekrzyczany film, z przyjemnym podkładem muzycznym.
Make it pop! Needs to be bright and funky - lemon yellow or seville orange.🍋🍊 Would love to see a disc conversion - just for the challenge. Could set a trend of bringing new life to unloved bikes. Thanks for showing your great work in 2023. Looking forward too seeing you in 2024❤
it's difficult to pick one but me being weird... the Surly with knock off corner bar and the thumb shifter from the 3rd bike and a nice paint job... I hope we can enjoy more paint job restomod videos. Happy New Year!!!
Since it's winter you can strip it heat the frame to around 400 degrees makes a good color more heat more color.and put linseed oil on it.I did a cruiser bike like this and looks really good
The Trek is one my favs because I have a very similar bike, just in 13" small frame and 26" wheels. It even has Schwalbe tires on it. Just those budget Tough Tom tires in 2.35. Maybe not as interesting as some of your other builds, but to me it is a perfect daily.
Hola mi amigo, felicidades por sus trabajos, tengo una nishiki colorado, una schwinn sierra y mi favorita una GT timberline todas de los noventas, me gustan mucho sus videos. Saludos desde México...
Love your channel! It's helped me immensely in my new hobby of old bikes. I'm even getting involved with my Co-op here in Louisville Kentucky. So thank you ...I'm also curious as to which quill adapter you used on the specialized crossroads. Thanks again.
The best bike building videos out there.Ive learned so much just from watching.Maybe you can answer a question,I want to put a 1X on a ‘95 Kona lava dome.Do you have a recommendation on the specific parts that could make that happen?
Crossroads Corner Bar Gravel 'Cross-over' build: Awesome concept, bar, frame. My 2c: 1) Yes, paint. 2) Yes, weld disc tabs. 3) Go for 10spd, could do 1-by or 2-by. 4) Brakes: TRP HY/RD Cable-actuated hydraulics! With 10spd brifters, and secondary cross-top levers 5) Grips: Long tube grips like ESI or Red Monkey instead of bar tape on the drops. Wrap the top position to take care of the cable routing and those cross-tops. 6) There is a fair bit of tire clearance, try 27.5 wheels with a strategic tire selection? 7) Once Disc brakes are up and running, consider making a custom bracket to mount something interesting to the v-brake bosses. A clever touring rack and fender combo? 8) Bike-mounted tools: Like in the bar-ends: a Wolf-tooth 'Encase' or Lezyne 'Dual-Insert' set, or a crank-axel insert tool like the Torque Covert 7. (No One-up stem cap tool in a steerer-tube adapter).
I would like a video on how you make the decals you use for painting your bikes, im doing some work on a bike but can’t figure out how to get those decals
Bought my wife a 1997 S-Works M2xx, gonna run 10 sp cassette + XT shadw with an 11sp 2x XT 165mm cranks and derailleur. LX adjustable servo wave levers with XT v-brakes. Te frame is team red and no dings, almost perfect b shiny paint. Superlight. Got it, with Manitou Answer forks, ritchey seatpost, salsa stem, ritchey headset for $95 on eBay auction. Nobody else bid!!
don't paint it. weld the tabs or find a manitou fork or the likes for the front and just add the discs.. the plate adapters in the rear work really well.. welding would be better i got a 95 930 just done the 27.5 disc swap
Hello @Oldshovel this is always amazing watching your videos. Thanks! One question, how do you manage to restore old forks especially where do you find Rockshox seal dust in 28 mm? I am restoring not so old Giant Talon 2011 equiped with DART3 fork. This is very difficult to find spare parts.
These are really tough to find now. New old stock 28mm seals for the SID was available on Amazon and eBay until about a year ago now I can’t find them anywhere. Good luck my friend.
Happy New Year. I know you like your *OURY* grips @7:27 - how do they compare with the *Northshore* grips? I am considering both for a current 1994 project build. Thanks, QQ in Scotland.
What style of frame is this? I have a Trek 4300 frame from 2006/07, and I thought they were called "wishbone" frames. It looks like the Cannondale CAD 2🤘🤘
its crazy how i can basically smelll the inside of that bike when i see it being disassembled...its like how i smell a faint fishy sulfur when i see a tire being deflated...even on screen ive restored so many bikes....no one ever rides them after i give them away but i love rebuilding 1990s to end of 26" era bikes...This makes me want to throw salmon pads on an old bike and go for a snow ride....but drs orders i have months before i ca nride again
Hello old Shovel genius, I´m from Costa Rica, central América, greetings, you know, i would like to change my seatport for a Carbon one, I weight 220 pounds.... my bike is 31.6 seat post size, looking forward for your comments, regards
The camouflage on the Surly was great, that bike looked awful and unless you took the time to look at the parts you’d never know it was a good bike. Sucks you have to do that to your bike to deter crime!
Ehhhhhhh....buying counterfeit items from aliexpress is not cool. If we're not careful we're going to lose domestic bike companies like VO, Surly, PDW, and the rest if we're not careful. I also would never use a counterfeit *carbon* handlebar from aliexpress for off-road riding. That's just asking for trouble.
@@oldshovel I totally and completely understand. You have family and a job to consider before this digital platform. Just missed your stuff -- much blessings

Nice bike , I would live the brakes the same, and yes bar tape. I love older bikes. 🎉🎉🎉
I made it to the end :) And thanks for giving these old bikes a chance I just started working at my local bike shop and your videos inspire me!
Happy New Year from Brazil.
Great video watched it all the way through some really nice builds in there proper retro 90's
Watched the whole thing!
Awesome thanks my friend
You should share the Brodie restoration video with Paul Brodie and ask him about the name! Great to see so many new chances for great bikes!
Greetings! I'm from Ukraine.
I like your work
Happy New Year!
Thanks
Love the spec/build of the Brodie. Wasn't really into the friction shifter at first but it's grown on me. 👍
Esta Trek ficou sensacional, parabéns 👏👏🇧🇷🇧🇷

I think you should try to paint the bike with bright green and Black. On the first bike that you have shown earlier in this video clip.
There was a song by Sheb Wooley " The Purple People Eater", evidently named after that song.

I like the bike and the way u set it up but I I gotta sit upright I got a bad back

I run Oury grips on my Ritchey Beacon drops…with a 1x barcon. I never considered using a washer in the end of the grip. Does this protect it?

Hello my friend, I'm from Brazil, I have a question, did Trek buy Klein?
yes, from 1995
Yep, like Dan said.
leave it black, the pink lettering is killer.
How much would it cost to repair an old mongoose mountain bike? 🤔🤔🤔 Hopefully I get see an answer from Oldsovel
