I'm disappointed no one in the chat let them know that Pat was right and the story board artist for episode 1 IS a Cyclops main in MvC2 and wanted to add even more references to it.
I wonder if his entire marvel moveset will be integrated into the show

I lost my shit when the Sentinels said “OMEGA LEVEL THREAT DETECTED”. Whoever brought this show back did it just to remind us that Storm and Cyclops aren’t like in the movies. They’re cool as hell.
Lol I mean Cyclops is NOT even close to Omega Level but Storm sure as fuck is

The damage to Cyclops and Storm from the movies has been reversed. Nature is healing.
Honestly Cyke and Storm got off lucky compared to Rogue. That was next level character assassination, she might as well not be Rogue at all.
@Rynn21 what are you even talking about ?
THIS ONES FOR YOU MORPH!
That Storm entrance vs the Sentinels was everything.
Please for the love of god have these writers work on whatever mcu xmen we get. This is peak xmen.
And please for the love of god let them cook. We've seen this pattern before with Star Wars. They release a bunch of stuff, most of it shit, except for one thing that's good. Then Disney turns their baleful gaze upon it and chokes the life out of it trying to turn it into their next cash cow.
tbf a lot of it is just wholesale lifting of Claremont storylines with minor alterations (Madelyne Pryor originally became Goblin Queen after losing her son, not before).
@@SeruraRenge11minus the author's undisguised fetishes
@@Feasco Assuming you mean Goblin Queen's outfit, it has less to do with fetish material and more the idea that people with loose morals (aka villains) wear loose clothing. That speech that magneto gave at the end was so fucking good i think i was close to actually crying.
That and Storm’s bit at the end had me like wow
It was very dope. I was actually worried they were going to have him regress.

To be fair to the old animation.
It was meant for CRTVs, and probably looks way better on them just like how old video games do.
Still better than Superfriends animation.
For clarification Wolverine, Beast, Rogue, and Storm are the og voice actors. While Cyclops, Jean, Morph, Gambit, Bishop, Magneto, and Jubilee are new voice actors.
Cyclops is now voiced by Ray Chase (Noctis from FF XV and Master of Masters from Kingdom Hearts series).
Cyclops and Storm fans are feasting. The 90’s cartoon and the live action films hurt their reps with non-comic readers but those that kept the faith have been rewarded.
Bless that MvC2 playing storyboard artist.
People are about to find out who Ororo really is with her arc.
Magneto is DELIVERING.
X-men 97 is just unreasonably good.
The movies ruined everyone not named Wolverine, Charles and Erik. Rogue got reduced to Bella Swann. People only forgive those films because Hugh is awesome.
You can pinpoint the moment Trent Reznor threw out his screaming voice on tour in '98.
I'm just hoping we get some scenes where Jeans faints while trying to lift a rock from the ground while Scott goes JEEAAAAN in the background.
And then Rogue has to solve the problem as usual. 😂
Is now a good time to mention Hale didn't voice Jean in the old cartoon? She voiced Jean in mvc3
Yeah pat is very wrong about who all is returning
So I take it Hale's take was the most hated version of the character?

im just waiting for Jean to go "I CANT CONTROL IT" in the series and fall into a panic attack
Beast and especially Storm sounds exactly the same as they did 25 years ago
So pat is a bit wrong, the original jean was voiced by Catherine disher, who also voiced Jill Valentine in the original Resident Evil 3.
Funny that we got two X-men VAs to voice two leads in the series, the other being jubilee as Claire
"Does a mall babe eat chili dogs?" Licker jumps down and swings claw.
I wish Alyson was back, she still sounds great.
Animation is fantastic, it wasn't touched on a lot here, but it's hand drawn. Rotoscoped, which helps to smooth stuff out where needed, but hand done all the same.
Arent the character models 3d?!
@@shinluis The director confirmed the series is hand drawn animation, they do use CG for layouts and to rotoscope complex shots or things like vehicles (as trying to track all that by hand is very time consuming and difficult) are 3D models that are then drawn over, but still hand drawn at the end of the day. It's pretty cool to see that this day and age!

Talking about voice actors whose voices don't age. The original TMNT voice actors still sound the same! Only Rob Paulsen sounds a bit gruffer now, but I chalk that up to the fact that his vocal cords had to be scraped due to his run-in with throat cancer several years ago.
So uh.... is nobody going to point out that Jennifer Hale actually DIDN'T voice Jean in the original X-Men animated series? No? - "Let them have this"? Alright *Steps away* 😶🌫
Some people have already pointed it out.
This wasn't featured in the clip, as it was brought up later into the podcast, and it was pretty brief, so I'm going to just bring it up here:
They were very confused in regards to Morph's involvement with the team back during the original show's run. In all honestly, Morph wasn't THAT active in the team to begin with.
To recap, Morph's left for dead after the two-part pilot. They're later revived and brainwashed by Mr. Sinister just in time for the latter to make their debut in Season 2. Morph ultimately saves the team in that season's two-part finale, before being sent off to recover at a medical facility.
They briefly return to the team in Season 4 before leaving once more due to ongoing "Sentinel trauma". Season 5 marked Morph's actual return to the team, though it was on the last episode of the series, but judging by what's going on with the sequel series, they're not leaving anytime soon.
97' actually made me go back and start watching the original Cartoon, and holy cow the references that they made in the intro alone was amazing too see
Like pat said the visuals are incredible. This show looks like how your nostalgia makes the original look. That goes for the action as well. It's like the took the old art style and made that look as clean and modern as possible and then the action feels like stuff you would see in an anime . They definitely got a winner and I hope we get other animated projects by this same team. Revivals or otherwise. But yeah spiderman 98 would be amazing lol
Really the only thing it was missing was an alternative Japanese opening animated by, maybe, Trigger or sommat.
*SHOCK!!*
CYCLOPS MY GOAT MY MVP IS FINALLY GIVING MY WHITE BOI SOME LOVE
Wait Cyclops is fucking a white boi?
No BLACK BOY love ?
They haven't even gotten to the Magneto scene yet
"That's my secret, Cap. I have no secret."
Everything good and bad about the 90s comics wrapped up together.
For me my only problem is that the Madeline Proyr stuff has always seemed like a way for regular Jean to not have to be pregnant
Maaaaaan as a kid i always thought cyclops was cool but the older kids kept saying he was bad (i just didnt knw). FINALLY IM RIGHT lolllll
I used to hate him. But when I started reading the comics and watch the Evolution show, he became one of my favorite X-Men characters right next to Gambit.
Cyclops post-80s can be pretty cool when whomever is on an X-series book isn't actively dunking on him.
X-Men writers have a problem of making Cyclops either a loner jerk or butt heads with Logan all the time as part of the Jean love triangle.
@@leithaziz2716 I like Scott and Logan butting heads on the team completely separate from Jean. Logan is the best foil to Scott and when the two of them disagree on matters of the team, that's great character work. Fuck that love triangle bullshit I'm sick of seeing it, it's one of the worst things that came from the movies.
@@InReserveProductions It's the "Super Man Sucks" problem. You think he sucks because we've had 20 years of movies where he sucks, same with Cyclops.
The one thing that really felt off to me was when Jubilee said, "Bling." If you call it "X-Men '97," you need to commit all the way. They did so well with the dialogue (especially Rogue and Gambit) that that one instance of anacronistic slang was jarring.
I'm sold, just on the pure beaming delight you guys have while describing the show. 🎉
Definitely giving it a watch now, was worried they'd butcher what I'd loved of the old series.
Some of the VA’s had to re audition for the roles, I believe just to see if they can still do the voices
maybe if this show does well enough we'll eventually get to see if Spidey got to actually find the real Mary Jane
The cruelest move would be to put Paul in there.
I'm really enjoying it so far. Three was pretty wild and interesting. My only complaint is the pacing. Here's hoping the next episode's pacing will be better.
If anything it at least feels like a 90s cartoon in pacing, for better or worse. In that most of the time the plot needs to wrap up within 20-30 mins.
@X_Blake
I like it but I’m serious not a fan of the Sinister Clone stuff, it’s just an excuse not have Jean really be a mom. I don’t know why people shit on the Spidey clone saga but gives this stuff a free pass.
@@li-limandragon9287 I guess they prefer it when its X-men and not SM cause their cooler I guess.
@@X_BlakeSpidey is more popular than the X-Men. I think people just give it a pass because Chris Claremont wrote it.
Pat is turbo right, it was clear Cyclops push. And you know what? About time. Decades late after decades of slander from two cartoons, all the live actions movies, and even the old Best Friends channel (I remember, MATT!). He’s THE X-Man. A blend of Charles more peaceful approach and ideals for mutant kind, and Magnetos ideal for offense and defense against oppression for mutant kind. Not to mention, his power not being displayed properly (it’s not heat vision). I haaaaated Cyclops growing up watching the 90’s show, the live action fox movies, and Wolverine and the X-Men (go figure, the show where Logan is the leader has a terrible Cyclops). But then I started reading comics and watched the show X-Men Evolution way after it ended. The dude is to X-Men what Captain America is to The Avengers. He’s a flawed character but he’s one of the best and coolest in the franchise, as he should be.
Don’t let people who didn’t read Avengers vs X-Men fool you. If you read it, you know Cyclops was right.
Someone said they gave him more to do in two half hour episodes than in 3 live action films and I had to laugh bitterly.
Scott "let's weld the tectonic plates together, what's the worst that can happen?" Summers was not right.
I'll have you know, I read AvX and I prefer to forget it 🤭 (largely bc they straight up treated the X-Men as villains and didn't even try any nuance, but the Kieron Gillen tie-ins I thought were pretty good for giving the X-Pov on the event, iirc)
@TheShockVox
My problem with Cyclops is that Stan and Lee and Jack Kirby never gave him an interesting personality to begin with.
I’m glad his fans are eating well.
How much of AvX was Bendis shenanigans?
Good to see Cyclops and Storm finally get some shine again on the small screen though.
It should be noted that only 4 of the X-Men are voiced by the same actors from the 90s, Wolverine, Storm, Beast, and Rogue (and Nightcrawler but he hasn't been on the show yet). Cyclops and Magneto's actor's are both deceased, Alyson Court didn't wanted to return as Jubilee because she wanted an Asian actress to take over the role, and the rest were recast. Based on what Wolverine and Rogue's actors have said, all the original cast had to re-audition for their roles to see if they could still do it, or at least get in the ballpark, and presumably the rest sounded too different to return to their roles. However the original actors for Jean, Morph, Jubilee, Gambit, and Cable will all still be in the show, just in different roles. Jean and Cable's actors are in episode 1, as Val Cooper and the FOH guy with the scars on his face, and when you hear Val you can tell why Jean was recast.
X-Men 97 is really awesome!!
I think only a few reprised the role. I think its Beast, Rogue and Wolverine
Yup. Jennifer Hale technically is reprising her role as Jean, since she’s done it in so many other things. She just never did it in the original 90’s X-Men show.
Those 3, Storm, Nightcrawler and Mister Sinister are the only reprises yeah. Some other original va's are in there but in different roles.
@TheShockVox ok that confused me. Thx for clarifying
I don't know why they said Wolverine sounds so much older. Cal Dodd still sounds like Cal Dodd, it isn't some massive departure from what he was before.
This show is so good ❤ now they have to have to do Spiderman 98
Pete's gotta find the real MJ
Fuck that cartoon. Continue Spec. Spidey instead.
bring back MTV Spiderman.
@@Hillthugsta Yeah good luck with that. Marvel seems hellbent on making anything but Spectacular Spiderman
@@TrojanGamer10 😔 Spec Spidey and EMH didn't have to die... What a waste.
The art style is uncanny valley different. It's close but just off enough that I notice it harder than if it were a fully different style. And that's more a "me" thing; it's not something I'd hold against the show. The show is great, though, and the writing gets it over and having everyone do their thing and understanding the characters. Also really cool to see Cyclops use his blasts for mobility.
Having just marathoned the original show and gone straight on to '97, the jump is even more bizarre because the animation quality in Season 5 took a serious fucking nosedive. So it went from "kinda janky and sketchy" to "some Goodtimes home video knockoff shit" to "Oh, they're flexing."
I mean point still stands but Catherine Disher was Jean Grey in the og not Jenifer.
Lilandra!
Lilandra was Charles’ best bae, especially now Moria is ludicrous evil for dumb reasons.
I haven't seen the new one. Someone please tell me the opening theme tune is still fucking bad-ass.
They did a near shot for shot recreation of the og. Just animated better with a spare shot or two (like Morph having a cut in). Shit is rad.
So 2 things, first, i think that people need to understand that this show isn't like the original one, X-Men tas/X-Men '92, or like any other animated series/cartoon of the 90's or the 2000s that have around 50 or 60 eps, no, X-Men '97 is 10 eps series maybe with a 2nd season in the future, im saying this because of episode 3, yes it feel rushed but it was pretty good still and that's what matters in the end, so "arcs" in this show are going to last around 1 or 2 eps max, they are going to be very short arcs, that era where animated shows could last over 60 eps max have been over for like what? More of a decade maybe? So yeah, we have to do with what we have i think, and 2nd, starting next week with episode 4, not only all of us that are watching the show are gonna be in "equal footing", because there was this event in which some people were invited to watch the 3 first eps as a form of quality test, so those people already knew what was the plot of those eps and give their not spoilers opinion about it and they were right, the show have been really good so far, but also, starting with the 4th ep and moving forward to its finale, we are going able to see if the show as a whole is good or if only those 3 first eps where the good ones, lets hope for the first.
Spicy take but I think this is better than the 90s one. The characters, animation, artstyle, choreography, writing all feel better imho
@@invaderpez12 Oh no i agree, its a mayor upgrade compared with the original in terms of visuals and action sequences, i was just saying that people shouldn't expect story arcs that could last 3 or more eps.
They didn't get everyone back, Jubilee is so obviously NOT Alyson Court.
Yeah I miss Alyson, I guess they felt the need to have Jubilee voices be actual Asian actress.
Did Paige play Jean Grey?
the Goblin Queen
Nope she played Madeline
Bout time cyclops got love.
I think Scott’s powers are cool but I have the same problems with him as I do with Cap, he’s too hypocritical for someone who’s supposed to be the paragon.
considering how much people were making it seem like it was gonna be the worst thing ever yeah it is pretty good
Rogue’s 90s ass is the reason some people even find to the will to live.
Dude this is going to be true for everything until the end of time. There will *always* be people saying whatever just on the off chance that they may be right
I like how they went modern for episode 2. IYKYK
The 2 episodes Ive seen so far have been great, just a little weird getting used to the new animation style, feels like Archer at times and there are too many close ups. The writing is not bad so far, and even though I think Rogueneto is gross, I'm not really bothered by anything that has happened yet. We'll see if it stays good and free of writer self-insert characters and opinions
I hate Rogueneto but it was a thing in the comics.
Like.
I felt like so far they nailed the tone of the original show but actually did make cyclops kinda cool. I think he was always too much of a boyscout for most people to really enjoy especially when you had characters like Gambit, and Wolverine in the mix. The show made me fall in love with the X-men comics as a young child and I remember being so excited when that theme would come on Saturday mornings.
I love that in order to make Cyclops' power dope they had to make it make no sense in the process. His optic blasts now MOVE him which means he is taking the full blowback of each optic blast with his regular ass human body and this man's head should just be flying off his shoulders and getting rag dolled a few dozen feet when he uses full power. Dude should be 90% neck muscles
Its insanely cool what he does with it like bravo animators and storyboard people but oh my god does it not make any sense lmao
His eyes are canonical portals to a dimension entirely of kinetic energy. The mere act of shutting his eyelids stops all that power from escaping. Nothing about how Cyclops works ever made any sense.
He doesn't have a regular human body the guy is a mutant his body has evolved to cope with his powers. Just look at quicksilver yes his power is super speed but his body is changed in several ways to cope with the speeds he moves at.
As much of a fumble the allegory of Xmen is the show is still sick as hell props to them
how is it a fumble?
@@Zangelin the whole "being representative of marginalized people in society" starts losing weight when said marginalized people are at worst effectively walking nukes, and at best sometimes make them look like freaks of nature like Toad.

Yes woman with the body of Halle Berry who won the superpower lottery, please continue to tell the teenage girl who kills anyone she touches that there's nothing wrong with her. Beast even points out in that scene that there's nothing wrong with wanting to live a life without persecution, "you don't shed on all the furniture".

That takes me back to an episode of "Wolverine and the X-Men." There was a mutant whose power was that he explodes at random intervals, destroying everything around him. The poor guy was completely terrified of himself, because being at the wrong place at the wrong time could mean hundreds of innocent deaths, and he wasted no time going to the authorities so that they could put him into a perma-coma, since being asleep was the only way to stop him from exploding.
@@SeruraRenge11the majority of mutants still aren't walking nukes, most of them are just ugly
Anyone ever notice that the animated justice league features multiple Rick Berman tng style episodes?
I'm not a big fan of the artstyle. They're trying to recreate the cheap 90s animation of moving as little as possible in between striking key poses, but something about doing that with modern technology doesn't feel right. Characters also sometimes have weird faces.
Does Rogue still have her amazing derriere from the old cartoon? I heard that they "toned down" the ladies (hopefully not to the extent of recent MK games).
As someone whose been watching through the old one (Haven't started the new one yet), her ass was really flat 99% of the time it was on screen. That one scene in episode 10 people keep posting is a one off. Her ass in that trailer shot is exactly how it looked in the old show the vast majority of the time.
Nah, not really. Art style doesn’t really let it show.
They didn’t tone it down every one just memed about that one shot that wasn’t indicative of the norm
It was pretty flat most of the time in the old one too. That one shot was an exception. I know cause I was just watching through the old show these past few weeks. Her rear was not drawn how you're remembering (outside very specific instances).
Its more just Rogue, they definitely didnt tone it down for characters like Madeline
Nice to see Marvel do something right for once. I've never watched the original show (I grew up as a "Batman the Animated Series" kid), so I don't have much to add to the conversation. Something about the artstyle looks off to me (feels kinda blurry?), but I don't know enough about animation to tell you if it's just me.
It’s that blend of 2D and 3D, yeah it can be hard to look at. But I like it more than the original’s art style so far.
What a weird comment, cartoons weren't consoles. I don't know a single person who didn't watch Batman and the X-men until this sociopath showed up 😂😂😂
@leithaziz
Marvel have done plenty right. A few boring movies and TV shows aren’t enough to ruin the pot.
I mean, I have 1 note at least: maybe make the animation not look like janky early 2000s-era flash shit. I get they're saving money for what matters more which is the action, but that doesn't mean you have to make everything that isn't the action look bad.
