Hey, he specifically said Voyager, that's important. If he hadn't said that, there'd be three times as many episodes on TNG alone, Voyager's just too bland to be controversial often. When you know it's Voyager, it's either Threshold, or the Very Special Episode about how hypnotists are giving people false memories that reads like an MRA screed about false rape accusations, or the one about how Native Americans had literally no culture before they were given one by aliens from space. And nobody ever remembers those other two.

But then the Iconians (you know, those extinct hyper-advanced peoples that TNG and DS9 mention a bunch of times) come back and they're so insanely powerful that even a Federation/Klingon/Romulan front is standing no chance, so Nog and a bunch of scientists decide to rebuild Arronax's timeship from VOY to try and erase the Iconians from history, but they fuck up so badly that they create a timeline where the Borg have assimilated the Romulan Empire? In that episode Pat brings up, they didn't clone Harry Kim. There was a spacial anomaly in which the entire ship was split into two tangential realities. So neither ship is the original or a copy. By the end of the episode, one of the Voyagers gets destroyed and the other escapes, however, he Harry Kim from the ship that stays together is killed and the Harry Kim from the one that gets destroyed switches ships and survives. So... yeah, it's not the same Harry, but neither is it really a clone. He's has had all the same memories and experiences as the other Harry up until the moment the ship split. So it is essentially the same guy as always. Still kinda jarring to think about though.

Close. The one that died was from the ship that got utterly wrecked, and the ship that was fine has its shields go down at the most inopportune time which allows a boarding invasion by the Vidiians to harvest them. So during that the alive Kim goes over to the wrecked ship and survives.
EXCEPT THEN in Star Trek Online, we find out the Kobali (who reproduce by taking the bodies of other species' dead and converting them into Kobali) found the dead Kim and turned him into one of them!

Without that, it's a poorly-executed Mars Needs Women plot that relies too heavily on "Amok Time" for its resolution - a bad script, but a coherent one. Compared to something like the others, where even just the script leaves you asking "what the hell did I just read?" and it is clear that "Code"'s trouble lies mostly in its execution rather than its conception.

Speaking of ST and bad writing. Generations COULD have been good, but there were all of those decisions that were handed down by the company. Kirk had to be in it and die, passing of the torch had to be in it, Enterprise had to be destroyed, etc etc. The more years that go by, the more I reckon they did the best they could with the shit that was handed down to them. Not sure what else they could have done to get the two captains together aside from maybe use one of the original script ideas where the way Kirk died was sacrificing himself to save the Enterprise-D.
I've thought about Generations a lot of the years as a 'how could this be better' kind of thing and yeah, it's just stuck with too many things it had to do, and far too much subverting expectations crap, to be much more than what they did with it. You can fix stuff like have them all in proper uniforms not half DS9 ones for no reason, you could beef up the Klingons aspect by giving them a decent ship so there could be a proper space battle. Bring back a lot the cut scenes... but none of this would fix those core problems, it's just papering over the cracks a bit better and this was already a script that they went back and forth on for ages in development, as compared to All Good Things that they banged out the script for in record time.
Also fun fact about that movie, I was looking into why Generations had half the crew in DS9 uniforms and half not, and it's a funny story. They designed a whole set of new uniforms, began filming, then a couple of weeks into the shoot the producers said, "gee, we're worried there's going to be too many unfamiliar elements in this movie that might put audiences off, can we go back to the old uniforms?" But then they didn't have enough TNG uniforms to meet the demands of a movie's casting and scheduling. And they couldn't afford to spend the money on making ANOTHER set of brand new costumes, so they had to borrow costumes from DS9. But there weren't enough DS9 costumes going spare either, so they had to mix and match, even with the same actor (so Frakes is left wearing Avery Brooks' costumes for some scenes, even though the sleeves aren't long enough for his sasquatch-esque frame).
All to avoid having too many 'new elements'...in the movie where the TNG crew, on the TNG ship, team up with Captain Kirk, to beat the Duras sisters and an El-Aurian, Data's finally using the emotion chip, Picard's deeply disturbed by a tragedy with Robert and the vineyard, etc. The change was even so late into the production that the toys for the movie have the TNG cast wearing those scrapped costumes. It's such a great microcosm of how incompetent Paramount were with late-90s Trek; pointless decisions implemented for stupid reasons in the most self-destructive ways possible.

You wanna' talk about unhinged Voyager Episodes: _TUVIX._
It was about Tuvok and Neelix getting fused into a singular individual due to a plant sample they'd picked up frm a planet messing with the transporter beam somehow.
That episode fucked me up FOREVER. They legitimately just killed a guy -- disrespecting his sentience and sapience and right to self-autonomy, who had gotten, at best, a few days to live, because everyone else was in mourning about two other crewmates disappearing -- just to resurrect those two crewmates who constituted him. They weren't even technically dead, just different. Worse yet, Tuvix seemed like he was in a way better place, mentally and emotionally, than either Tuvok or Neelix were, and was like a complete ass person in a way that neither of them were, balancing out Neelix's levity with greater professionalism, and Tuvok's emotionlessness with a capacity for emotion that wouldn't fuck him up like it does with most Vulcans.
More still, he inherited their memories. From his perspective, he had lived two lives that combined into one, so it's like double the betrayal when his crewmates, who he cared for and trusted, decide to murder him to resurrect his component individuals.
And then there's the implications about how people react to people who change after major events. The sort of "I liked you better when you were more fucked up" response to someone improving their mental state. The crew mourned for who Tuvok and Neelix _were_ and refused to accept their autonomy as who they _became._
It's just... it infuriates me. Especially because I have a certain romanticism when it comes to people fusing together.

    The movie Signs.
I don't like the message of the ending, but the atmosphere and build-up and mood of the whole movie up to that point is just so, so, SO GOOD.
(People like to say the water thing doesn't make sense but it's perfectly plausible that water vapor wouldn't be a problem but liquid water would. It also never rains in the movie.)

Signs actually makes sense when you realize the aliens were supposed to be demons and it's a religious movie. That's why the water could hurt them, it was his faith harming them with holy water. The movie as a whole is about the importance of faith, it kinda screams it in your face.
It's a shame Mel is such a wacko because he's a REALLY good actor and director, the only movie of his that made me say "I wish i didn't see that" was What Women Want.

I will say, I feel like Pat overstates the Harry clone thing because basically what happened was that ALL of voyager got cloned due to anomaly reasons and one ship was getting super fucked up while the other one was mostly fine. Harry and the baby that gets born on Voyager die on the fine one but survive on the fucked one and the fucked up one beams the two over before the ship explodes.

IT'S TOO EASY!" AND LIKE... IT'S SO BAD! HEY DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN THEY MET THE PLANET OF SPACE AFRICANS AND ONE OF THEM KIDNAPPED THE WHITE WOMAN SECURITY OFFICER BECAUSE THEY WANTED TO MATE WITH HER, AND SHE HAD TO FIGHT ON A JUNGLE GYM WITH THE MAN'S WIFE, AND INSTEAD OF THE EPISODE BEING "NO I DON'T WANT TO MARRY THIS GUY WHO KIDNAPPED ME" IT'S INSTEAD "OKAY YEAH I DO HEAR THE DRUMS BUT-"

Here’s all the “that times” that either annoy me or blow my mind they ever happened (I will update as I frantically search my mind):
-Ben sisko killing all life on an m class planet just to get one guy
-janeway torturing a guy because she justified it to herself because he “was no longer human” after using aliens as fuel for their warp cheats that the voyager crew get constantly
    Whatever the fuck that means
-troi being mind sexed by alien goblins
-Doctor crusher and the rest of the crews embarrassing drunk moments
Almost every episode has some dumb adds shit like this somewhere, I can go on.
-That time Dax morally postures at Kira over being willing to date a clear headed alien guy
That time a Native space American guy postures at Picard about his ancestry and how he should help them now to atone for his ancestors crimes as French colonists even though this is hundred of years into the future and that’s long past
    - siskos dad getting pissed off that his son wants to test his blood to see if he’s who he says he is, and goes on to say and I quote “you can’t just go around making people prove who they are! It’s not right!!”
And it’s like... “hey gramps, you are aware of the concept of personal ID? And licenses and all that shit? Are you fucking high or have you just been huffing too much kitchen pepper you fuddled old fool?
-the dog in an alien costume (of course)

The last one is unironically the worst. Its arguing that because a long ass time ago picard's ancestors probably fucked over some native americans, that not only should he feel guilty but that he shouldnt try to relocate them due to space nazis (cardassians) taking over their planet due to a treaty with the federation saying they must do so. So he wants themout of nazi control and they keep going "no youre the real bad guy mr white man!" And he gets depressed. Then wes agrees to help his groomer who doesnt give a shit about any of these people and causes a firefight after picard wanted to sneak transport the natives, and the cardassians and enterprise and thr natives get into a firefight because of wes. Then once things cool down the space nazis agree to let the natives stay under their rule. Ds9 is all about how evil said space nazis were and is likely why native americans are part of thr rebelion group against them as a consequence of this.

For those unaware, the Sisko one is really wacky because Sisko is doing this as /direct retribution/ to one guy poisoning a planet with a substance that's only hazardous to Cardassians, which he did so that humans could take it. It's not an automatic nuke, it's 'just' a selective poison.
The other guy is horrified at Sisko despite it being essentially the same thing he did (because he sees himself as the hero and Sisko as the villain) and decides to turn himself and the bombs in to prevent further atrocities from Sisko's part.
The only reason this isn't /more/ horrifying is because at the end, the humans and Cardassians of the affected planets just basically relocate to each others' former homes - otherwise we'd be looking a gigantic diaspora of people on both sides and/or genocide.

@@lordentropy460 Yeah, what it effectively ended up as, is a horrific version of a population exchange. "Oh, you're going to make a planet inhabitable for humans for uninhabitable for Cardassians? Well we'll do the reverse to a different planet. Do you want to keep playing this game, Eddington? How far does your hate go?"
