    this probably has been the best interview I've seen on gambling addiction so far. Thank you Greg for your honesty and this wonderful interview. What I found really interesting is the moment when he says that does not have control over his bankroll and will go on tilt sooner or later. I truly believe that he might have got the skills as poker player, so it is even harder to admit that you can never make it because you lack this controlling element of what every person needs to have when working as a pro in the gambling segment. Much respect and well done

    Man what a great interview, I have been a semi-professional poker player in the past and this really opened my eyes. I have a forming gambling addiction as well, and I’m going to take a sabbatical from all forms of gambling (even poker) for the next year and then re-evaluate myself. I’m young enough where everything can turn around, a year in order to really cut out the virus is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

    This interview style is perfect for spreading awareness about the truth of this addiction. And ideally more education of the evils of how casinos prey on people so that some legislation gets passed hindering their ability to advertise as one example.

    This interview is great for those who think “professional gamblers” cannot lose. Long term the only winner is the casino. There was a quote from someone “If you want to become a millionaire from gambling you need to start off as a billionaire” 😢

      There's no such thing as a professional casino gambler.
      All casino games have the odds stacked in favor of the house..
      Mathematically impossible to beat over the long term.
      Poker is an exception as your playing v other players and not the house..but this guy obv couldn't keep it to just poker..he got sucked into the other casino games/ forms of gambling
      To be clear to make a solid living as a poker pro is very difficult..not many have the work ethic / skill to pull that off.. throw in having a gambling problem..ie not being able to manage 1s money..and it would be impossible.
      People like this guy will always give it back..no matter how much they win..
      As they have zero self control.

    This was a great interview, and Greg Weber is still 58th on New Jersey's all-time money list in poker despite being inactive for the past five years, so you were talking to a very accomplished card player who relayed a cautionary tale for every young person out there who thinks it's easy to make it in life by relying solely on gambling for income.

  • @BamaNick

    For me I don’t tilt on the table, while actively playing poker I stay relatively clear minded when losing. It’s when I hit my stop loss for the day for poker, I stand up, walk past the blackjack tables and then that is when the addiction strikes. Which means even going to play poker for me is just as dangerous as depositing to an online casino.

  • @BobbySee2
    @BobbySee2 24 дні тому

    I despised gambling from the start as I witnessed my parents fall victims to this addiction. Never was I ever interested in casinos until I saw the WSOP and knew it was a game for me. I learned and I had conquering moments. It lead to a “part-time job” to playing more regularly. I started drinking in the midst of playing poker. At times the tables were overbooked and the wait list was who knew how long. So I took my action to the slots.
    Long story short I’ve sunk deeply into debt about 50k and got a DUI. That still did not stop me from gambling. Just recently I had to sit down and come to terms and take full accountability. Most importantly I had to accept that I am addicted to gambling.
    On the road to recovery to turn my life around. I can attest to this man’s testimony that poker is gambling despite what anyone says.

    The answer to the poker question is a matter of skill and the rake. The lower stakes poker games (2/5 no limit and below) have easy competition, but a lot of rake to overcome. So you have to have a big edge over the opposition and thats hard. The higher stakes poker games (10/20 and above) the rake is a lot less of an issue, but then the competition becomes very difficult and at the really higher stakes, world class. So the vast majority of people that take shots at those games will just lose all their money. Theres a few cemented regs that will win. But thats very few. Its like professional sports, many many try, very few succeed.

    About for me the same... 😂 sports betting and poker. I can win at sports betting long run, cause our bookie from my country has monopol here, and i get better odds with pc program i have made. Well the limits for placing bets arent so big. Im in profit long run but its not crazy amount, like 5k in a year. Online pokeer is so hard to beat. Well i think i do waste my time there, im not in negative, but its drives me crazy, its just outcome what i make and time i put in, well i dont wanna end up gambler, for me its... i would rather do something else then play. But i make some, so i continue playing.. If you understand. Sometimes i wish i had a normal job, maybe i will put this behind aftercnew year or soon. And get normal job,...

    Disgree re sports betting cant be profitable.
    Theres 100% peoppe who are long term profitable with sports betting.
    These people have self control / discipline and an edge ..ie are better than bookmakers at predicting outcomes.
    The reason "problem" gamblers cant do this is lack of self control.and discipline..by definition what makes a problem gambler.

    • @OdaatGamblingAwareness
      @OdaatGamblingAwareness  25 днів тому

      And how tf do they have the ability to predict outcomes better than bookmakers? Every answer like this is riddled with the assumption books don’t spend millions on data scientists and statisticians making sure that doesn’t happen. But go on believing what you want

    • @Fred-rg5vw
      @Fred-rg5vw 25 днів тому

      If I knew the answer I'd be doing it.
      Most pro sports bettors to my knowledge use data yes..
      The 1 advantage you're forgetting is that bookmakers have to set markets on a million different games..races etc .
      A punter doesn't have to bet on any if he doesn't want to.
      He can wait for a perceived edge or error in bookies odds before having a bet.
      I understand you don't like the idea that it's possible to be a professional long term winner on sports betting as it doesn't fit woth the anti gambling theme..
      But to say it isn't possible is just wrong.
      The pt is if someone doesnt have self control and discipline then yes it is imposible.. and all the people you're trying to help fit into that category
      Not trying to be argumentative as I am sure you're helping a lot of people.. way I would describe it maybe is for eg .if tou don't have the discipline to wait for months to have a bet until your conditions are met ..and stick to preset sensible limits then yes it is impossible to win on sports betting long term.

    hes good example of why betting is devil, no matter how you win it wont be enough if you win 10 mill you will want 50 next time, same scenario with people who win 5k they barely realise they won money likely to go out so fast chasing another thrill they dont have time to realise they were up they thinking about next bet next move lol
