What I like about Brad is if you watch him regularly, he constantly shows self awareness and admits when he’s less skilled than the people he’s playing against. He’s admitted he’s improving and has complimented Nick Ps coaching as a big aid. This was a very fair analysis of him and I think dead on. Great vid. I wish some of Brads detractors watched him enough to understand his self awareness. But he’s helped a lot of Poker get attention and I think he and people like Charlie are fantastic for the game. Something you didn’t mention that I appreciate as well is that he’s one of the only professional player/bloggers I’ve seen who will admit that the poker life is very difficult and isn’t glamorous. Being open about his struggles including that he was forced to quit poker back in the day. It’s great because it shows the real side of doing it professionally where I find other vloggers try and make the life seem easy

Hey Charlie, I think you need to a take a couple of factors into account when evaluating Brad's play on a Lodge livestream in specific, and _especially_ on hands that Andrew Neeme is in as well: - Texas stream Hold'em is a mutant form of _actual_ Texas Hold'em: Ranges are all fucked up, _especially_ when the standup game is in play, as it often is. - Stream play incentivizes wider ranges and more aggressive actions in general. This is offset to some extent by Brad's celebrity and ownership stake in the Lodge, as he's always going to be able to get a seat. Nonetheless, like all the other stream players, he's incentivized to take lines that maximize onstream action. - Re hands involving Neeme, very few live players are going to understand each other's games and ranges as well as Brad and Andrew are. They've for sure studied poker together, played hundreds (likely thousands) of live poker hours together, and are friends and business partners. TL;DR If you're trying to evaluate Brad's baseline competence and typical lines, then _DON'T_ use a Lodge livestream. He's going to make far too many deviations. Instead, use one of his vlogs from the Bellagio 5/10 (or better yet, the 10/25 game).
Honestly I've never agreed w most of brads playing. I watched him a bit a year ago and he was horrible imo. Unless he has gotten a lot better in a year?

The second hand was against Andrew Neeme who is great friends with Brad. They got started together doing poker vlogs, are business partners at The Lodge, and know each other's games inside and out. Kind of tough to rate Brad's game when analysing what he's doing against Andrew because there is likely meta-levels to it.
I LOVE this format! As poker enthusiasts we all enjoy watching Poker vloggers go through their hands, while trying to figure out ourselves if what they're doing makes sense and how we would've played in that spot. Being able to hear another top professional's reasoning as a second layer is absolutely invaluable and really fun to watch! Keep this series going please!!
can't believe this is the first video you upload since I've subscribed, I've watched Brad for years now and have always wondered how good he actually is. Couldn't ask for a better video, love the way you explain why certain plays are good or bad, it makes a lot more sense to me than a lot of other poker creators. Keep the great content coming man :)
I’ve found Brad’s analysis much better since he got coaching off Nicky P a couple of years ago - this is the lodge live stream don’t forget and hand 2 was against Andrew which makes a case for a bit of soft play. I’d like to see Charlie do a follow up of one of brads high stakes bellagio cash game sessions and see if he’s playing with more consideration
I think critiquing his thought process is sort of dubious. I think he’s more interested in making the vlog exciting/ interesting as opposed to going in depth on everything he’s thinking about. Rapid fire hands etc, love the vids Charlie!
I've been following Brad for a long time now and watching his game inprove from his days of playing 1/2 to were he is now its crazy tbh. The guy is killing it and is getting better every day. It's always easier to Monday morning quarterback hands than it is to be there in the heat of the moment under the preassure of largest stacks he has ever played. The fact he makes misplays is Good cause i feel he learns from them. Making his YT content allows him to take a deeper dive into his own play that alot of other Rec players don't get to do. All this to say is Brad one of the greatest atm, No... But i will enjoy watching every video he makes in the comming years I could see him even winning some big events as he has made the final table a fair bit his next step is to take it home!
I've watched a bunch of Brad's videos. I watch for the humor and to for a glimpse into the mind of an typical, average, not-too-deep-thinking-but-makes-a-sincere-effort-at-improving poker player. I've watched Doug Polk's videos a lot as well. I don't like either of them as people, but I would be scared shitless to play Polk and expecting to win vs. Owen.
I’ve been watching Brad for three or four years now. He’s very unassuming in his play. He knows he has to continue to improve and gain wisdom. It’s this human aspect of his Vlogs along with the rationale, that I find so intriguing and valuable.
Charlie, you should create a game for just youtube poker players. It'd be cool to see and I'd like to see you play against some of the people you are analysing.
I have been watching Brad a long time, I knew his father years ago when he ran a card room in northern California in the 90's, he was a great guy. Brad is very good and he has learned a ton studying the game and getting coached by some skilled guys. Still though, he steps out on his training and makes questionable moves, lately I think he has been making some loose plays and it concerns me because I really want to see him succeed.
I’ve watched Andrew and Brad play a ton of hands against each other and it always seems like Andrew is checking a lot almost as a friendly move but Brad has no issue crushing Andrew.
He's a decent, competent, studied, and experienced 2/5 as well as 5/10 cash game player, quite a popular and well liked UA-cam poker personality and that's about it. If anything, he should probably decline taking seats in nosebleed games in the future given his prior track record, results, etc at those stakes.
Brad agrees to play big stakes because it's basically advertising for him. He's invested in making the Lodge more popular. So even if he loses in a game, it's not always a bad deal for him. That added value can offset some of the negative edge he might have. Like how guys paid hourly to get casino games going can play differently and still make money.
Let's also keep in mind that Brad sometimes plays hands a little differently "for the vlog". I've been watching him for years now and he has become a very good player.
I've been watching Brad since the beginning - you can watch his poker knowledge grow in real time. He's been tutored by some of the best. Does he play hands he probably shouldn't because of the camera? Yes. Does he make dumb calls to get more viewers engaged? Yes. But the mind behind the general overall play is very sound. You don't come off cash games running deep into tournaments unless you have a really sound foundation in Poker.
I disagree with u about the flop c bet. I think it was fine n especially after the turn n river check by villain it gives u enough info on the strength of villains hand to bluff the river.
Re: K5 hand... I'd probably lead the river for around 2/3 pot, almost nobody checks back a flush draw on the flop, especially one that doesnt contain an ace

While I take everything said as straight up from a. V successful player, it would be interesting to see the thoughts process on other vlogs that aren't streamed and you can't see their cards. Just to see if your thoughts on ranges etc play out more accurately than Brad's.
Charlie, during the quizzes, don't hide the cards. Great series, you're analyzing all my favorite streamers. And if I were you, I'd just go shirtless 50% of the time. Maybe go pants-less 10% of the time to balance your range.
Polk needs to extend an invite for you for a week on the shows. Tx Hold ‘Em in Tx is a different animal. Nobody folds and Tx heads up is usually 4-5 way to the flop 😂

Always thought Brad and Lex were not as good as they seem. The more recent videos of Brad have shown his game has improved. Lex I have seen recently make a catastrophic mistake I wouldn't do. Lex plays at my casino. How good they are depends on a number of factors. How they think, work they do, critical thinking, mental game, and who they are playing. At the same casino there are 2 grinders. One plays by feel and the other isn't very good but table selects fantastically. I basically follow him around. Where ever he sits I sit. Both play higher stakes. Both are not as good as I am or my friend who is a professional. We are about equally skilled. I run a company now and play recreationally but still study. I need to talk to someone to understand how they think about poker. I play live exclusively. There is so much more information to gather in live play and there are no HUDs boosting the skill level of less skilled players. If Brad is a good but not great player, can market himself well and entertain others, and plays recs often..... All the power to him he is doing something right. I took the poker money I made and turned it into a successful company that I love running. We all take different paths.

I used to be a pro, I am not anymore. I turned my poker money into something more profitable than griding hours at a table. Now I play for fun. Look man, you don't have to be a genius to win this game. You just have to be the best at your table. I know a weak grinder who is a winner. The guy has almost never beaten me in a pot. I was just commenting about Brad, who seems like a nice guy, as well as some of my favorite vloggers and why. Something about Brad has always bothered me and I don’t know what? I've had the same feeling. he sounded arrogant at times, even if he didn't mean it. makes it sound like some of his plays are above and beyond of other players' ability to comprehend or something. also, I don't like how in the past he would ask players to "show their hand for the vlog". NO - you're asking them to show their hand for free info for yourself, not for the vlog. Keep it real. That's why he comes off disingenuous.
Brad has gotten a lot better since he started making videos. Even if he didn't say so, I would know that he's put in a lot of study time. In his early videos he made some really, really bad plays. Now he's using some pretty well-managed aggression.

Answer, not very good. His play style reads as incredibly robotic. He gets it all-in far too often heads up pre-flop and his primary defense in these last few months has been, “but GTO said.” The only human element of his game is that he shi** a brick every time he sits down in the nosebleeds. I don’t see him becoming elite because his game stopped improving last year. He makes a great bluff here and there but I never see him make a great fold. I see him being an above average player who will continue to get crushed high stakes. His responses to criticism seem quite arrogant and he seems unable to think about his own game (or his teachers’ for that matter) critically. He has forgotten that he’s a professional UA-camr first and a poker player second. Humility is an essential driver to development in everything. You nailed it with the discrepancy between his play style and what the game dictates.
I wouldn’t only be thinking about what non ace hands he may have (like Q/J suited) but what ones would he 3 bet. I think that normally that could help to better define his range better. I agree I’m checking 10s all day. No way Andrew folds second pair anyway to a bet.

I think Owens said he doesn't want to just call with TT if he could be best i.e. he wants to raise and have other people call. He didn't say he didn't want a call when he thinks he may have the best hand. Although I never believed Owens is that good of a player, I'm even more doubtful about this make make the analysis. And btw you can't read me for shit.
What about some 4 card poker? VeniVidi is creating some excellent content recently. The guy seems to crush the games, would still love to hear your (exploitive) though process going through some hands. Also keep going on with this format, i love it!
I think most of the guys with poker podcasts are good players. I’ve been watching Brad, Rampage, Andrew, and Doug for a couple of years. The only unsteady guy I’d say is Rampage…I’ve witnessed some pretty crazy play from Ethan…some times he hits but when he goes down, it’s spectacularly. Brad had a slump but I think that was due to draw of the cards, not so much his direct fault.
I see the same thing as people hating on Brad in competitive video games. People complain the person who is the best in the world at a game only has 1k subs while a mediocre player has 100k. Some people like seeing the best, but most people want the most entertaining. He found his niche and people should be happy for a decent guy succeeding at what he loves over complaining he doesnt deserve his audience because of skill. Listen to his story about going bankrupt playing pro then trying again while his parents try to talk him out of it. His dad later told him hes so glad Brad didnt listen, that hes proud of him, and made him promise to never give up. He told that story the vlog after his dad died. This world would be a better place if we were just happy for people getting to live their dreams rather than getting angry. Great analysis btw.
poker community is one of the most passionate group of people who have such love of the game which is unrivaled in any sport. Unfortunately, the poker is riddled with con men likes of Charlie, carrot corner and some other less shady people. Please do not buy anything that these people are selling you.

But the last video of his i watched before i went to bed last nigt he said he was stuck 40k on the yr. So ive seen him take down these big pots but then ive watched him spew chips on really questionable C bets so i dunno, I just know hes good poker,.

The way to make money in poker is, open a card room, invite all the VIPs and sit yourself and your co owners as the only professionals and milk them.

You have to take into account what you're watching is Texas poker too. Much different than playing with a bunch of pros for high stakes in Vegas.

While I take everything said as straight up from a. V successful player, it would be interesting to see the thoughts process on other vlogs that aren't streamed and you can't see their cards. Just to see if your thoughts on ranges etc play out more accurately than Brad's.
Charlie, during the quizzes, don't hide the cards. Great series, you're analyzing all my favorite streamers. And if I were you, I'd just go shirtless 50% of the time. Maybe go pants-less 10% of the time to balance your range.

Always thought Brad and Lex were not as good as they seem. The more recent videos of Brad have shown his game has improved. Lex I have seen recently make a catastrophic mistake I wouldn't do. Lex plays at my casino.
How good they are depends on a number of factors. How they think, work they do, critical thinking, mental game, and who they are playing.
At the same casino there are 2 grinders. One plays by feel and the other isn't very good but table selects fantastically. I basically follow him around. Where ever he sits I sit.
Both play higher stakes.
Both are not as good as I am or my friend who is a professional. We are about equally skilled. I run a company now and play recreationally but still study.
I need to talk to someone to understand how they think about poker. I play live exclusively. There is so much more information to gather in live play and there are no HUDs boosting the skill level of less skilled players.
If Brad is a good but not great player, can market himself well and entertain others, and plays recs often..... All the power to him he is doing something right.
I took the poker money I made and turned it into a successful company that I love running.

I used to be a pro, I am not anymore. I turned my poker money into something more profitable than griding hours at a table. Now I play for fun.
Look man, you don't have to be a genius to win this game. You just have to be the best at your table. I know a weak grinder who is a winner. The guy has almost never beaten me in a pot. This guy players 2/5, 5/10 and 25/50. Why does he win? He table selects like a beast. He knows all the recs and their plays. I follow him around the casino when he plays my limit. He makes LOTS of mistakes even against me.
Also I never said Brad and Lex are NOT at top of the food chain here. I just see mistakes they make that I wouldn't make. Thus...
Your league table would be good addition to future ones eg 1. Hungry horse 2 Brad 3 Mariano ….. 76 rampage etc . I was just commenting about Brad, who seems like a nice guy, as well as some of my favorite vloggers and why. Something about Brad has always bothered me and I don’t know what? I like genuine people, like a Jeff Boski or even Neeme. I could be completely off base but I’m looking forward to this video as I wrote this prior to watching.
I've had the same feeling. he sounded arrogant at times, even if he didn't mean it. makes it sound like some of his plays are above and beyond of other players' ability to comprehend or something. also, I don't like how in the past he would ask players to "show their hand for the vlog". NO - you're asking them to show their hand for free info for yourself, not for the vlog. Keep it real. That's why he comes off disingenuous.
VPIP’S are 35< & wider ranges for stream play, but he has the balls and reads to put players to the test.

Brad has gotten a lot better since he started making videos. Even if he didn't say so, I would know that he's put in a lot of study time. In his early videos he made some really, really bad plays. Now he's using some pretty well-managed aggression.

Answer, not very good. His play style reads as incredibly robotic. He gets it all-in far too often heads up pre-flop and his primary defense in these last few months has been, “but GTO said.” The only human element of his game is that he shi** a brick every time he sits down in the nosebleeds. I don’t see him becoming elite because his game stopped improving last year. He makes a great bluff here and there but I never see him make a great fold. I see him being an above average player who will continue to get crushed high stakes. His responses to criticism seem quite arrogant and he seems unable to think about his own game (or his teachers’ for that matter) critically. He has forgotten that he’s a professional UA-camr first and a poker player second. Humility is an essential driver to development in everything. You nailed it with the discrepancy between his play style and what the game dictates.

I wouldn’t only be thinking about what non ace hands he may have (like Q/J suited) but what ones would he 3 bet. I think that normally that could help to better define his range better. I agree I’m checking 10s all day. No way Andrew folds second pair anyway to a bet.

I think most of the guys with poker podcasts are good players. I’ve been watching Brad, Rampage, Andrew, and Doug for a couple of years. The only unsteady guy I’d say is Rampage…I’ve witnessed some pretty crazy play from Ethan…some times he hits but when he goes down, it’s spectacularly. Brad had a slump but I think that was due to draw of the cards, not so much his direct fault.
I see the same thing as people hating on Brad in competitive video games. People complain the person who is the best in the world at a game only has 1k subs while a mediocre player has 100k. Some people like seeing the best, but most people want the most entertaining. He found his niche and people should be happy for a decent guy succeeding at what he loves over complaining he doesnt deserve his audience because of skill.
Listen to his story about going bankrupt playing pro then trying again while his parents try to talk him out of it. His dad later told him hes so glad Brad didnt listen, that hes proud of him, and made him promise to never give up. He told that story the vlog after his dad died. This world would be a better place if we were just happy for people getting to live their dreams rather than getting angry.

poker community is one of the most passionate group of people who have such love of the game which is unrivaled in any sport. Unfortunately, the poker is riddled with con men likes of Charlie, carrot corner and some other less shady people. Please do not buy anything that these people are selling you.

I know you'd probably hate it, but I fold the TT. Given that I 4-bet pre, I'm triple barreling that runout. Given turn goes check/check, I'm jamming river.
Folding TT preflop in a normal game is completely reasonable.
Awesome video Charlie, love this format. Just reduce the boost on the mic - you don't need to be peaking - we can just turn up our own audio if it's quiet.

Theres no way you cant like a guy like Brad. Hes a SUPER nice guy and hes teaching you when he doesnt have to. But the last video of his i watched before i went to bed last nigt he said he was stuck 40k on the yr. So ive seen him take down these big pots but then ive watched him spew chips on really questionable C bets so i dunno, I just know hes good poker,.

Live poker was way more profitable 20 years ago, 15 years ago and probably 10 years ago. I'd say today is better than 2017-2019 though.
@jonathansykes4986 the average player wasnt as competent, but the sheer number of live players has never been higher and players losing at -20bb/100 is at least 80% of said pool
