Fantastic interview. Fletcher’s passing has drawn me back to this amazing band. Martin Gore is an absolute genius with the magnitude of stunning songs he’s created
Didnt you like Andy?
Love Martin's laugh, bless him.
What a good soul, Fletch.
Yes they are very talented artists with amazing songs but I think the reason why we love them so much is because they are wonderful human beings, very successful and to the day very humble individuals, in fascinated by this interview, good luck with you new album, I can't wait to have it.
This was a great experience to behold in person and I feel VERY FORTUNATE to have been able to ask Dave the question (at 37:50) about his perspective on Martin's lyrics after becoming a lyricist in his own right. He gave me a very heartfelt and thoughtful response and it was great to have the whole band looking directly at me as I listened, looked and took his answer in. A great night overall... DM never lets me down.
Your question was one of the best! Lucky you :)
Christian Montone excellent question Christian. Don't think they heard that one before.
Majdouline Thank you. I feel very lucky to have had this moment.
Strych Nyne Thank you... yeah, I agree. I wanted to ask a question that was artistically relevant and gave them (in this case Dave) something to reveal and think about.
Christian Montone Dave didn't wanna continue with DM unless he could write half the songs on their albums. They compromised and he gets to have 3..
One of the most interesting interviews I have ever seen, funny, warm, deep and emotional, a glimpse in the past that we, as a fans, can never know for sure. Very enjoyable to see them all having this great chemistry and vibe. DM forever, thank you!
This is the thing I also love about DM not only the soulful music but also the 'lads' have no pretence or heirs and graces about them, they are what they are, three lads from Basildon UK who make music. I love the way they just have banter between each other and the audience, they don't come across as 'I'm a big star' or pseudo music intellectuals. they're just three blokes having fun and making music, that it just happens millions love. ❤👏👏👏
Agree with a quote, ' it ( Basildon) may be 30 minutes to London but some don't make that journey '.
❤️❤️❤️
Exactly even though they’re the Best Band but so humble
Yeah ! They are a band that grew together from youth and still are going. Thats a special thing much like U2 and many others. Their music has deepened and grown as they progressed in life. I just love it and I been with them from the very beginning .
love how these working class boys learnt instruments , experimented and brought a WHOLE sound. Big up Depeche Mode for ruling it AND keeping it real
One reason for their longevity is the fact that they have great chemistry. The fact that they have a huge amount of talent doesn't hurt either.
chemistry??? They hate each-other's guts
Probably one of their best interview of the last 20 Years :) great questions and finally some in depths of the MUSIC
RIP Fletch, great interviews like this will not be the same anymore without you, hopefully Dave and Martin will not quit the band.
I miss Fletch, he was a lovely bloke and the 'glue' in DM.
"Our boy is a natural dancer" I just love that so much.
wow! can't stop smiling after having watched this interview, one of the best i've ever seen. so charming, honest, funny, insightful and likeable, thumbs up 👍
Great to see this now, RIP Flech.
Isn't Martin just the sweetest?
Greatness from humble beginnings…these guys stand the test of time. Thank you for this interview!
discovered them later in life as my music tastes evolved . looking forward to seeing them live in a few weeks with my wife in montreal .
I bet it was a good concert. I went to see them in Copenhagen last summer and it was brilliant. They'll be back in Copenhagen this February - and so will I.
One of the high quality interviews of DM. .. Most of the fans questions are the ones I would ask too...
Best interview I've heard in ages. However, I feel the crowd would applaud to one of them sneezing.
Still can't believe Fletch has gone! Most upsetting
Dave is very attuned to the creative process and Mart is a very acutely sensitive person. I can see how they need each other creatively.
Intervista fantastica! Così sincera, così a cuore aperto. Amo questo gruppo. Peccato non siano disponibili sottotitoli, non sono riuscita a capire tutto al 100%
Very fascinating interview, full of details about their beginning, and the way they work (in the past and now)
Soundtrack of my life... exactly right. I went through everything with depeche mode music. Made me get goosebumps, made me cry. One time I was already going nuts on too much meth I felt Martin was crying with me :-)
😮
Enjoy🌹the🌹Silence🌹 a beauty of a masterpiece 🎼
Chilling now that Fletch is gone😢
I like the journalist. He´s very good.
It is so great to see them having a great time here. Martin looks so happy and outgoing. It was so good to hear Fletch talk about the past. Dave ofcourse is so classy. thank you so much for talking about Alan. He is such an important part of DM for us fans. Everything about this interview is golden. RIP Fletch.
VIELEN LIEBEN DANK...FRIEDEN und FREIHEIT...
I kind of miss those clanging metal sound samplers and also atmospheric background audios from the early DM days and the band being a bit of on the subversive side. I wish on a few new songs that Martin or Dave would write that they would implement them again somehow. Hearing Andy say (at 9:06) he's was on bass synth, Martin on lead synth, Vince on rythm synth and Dave in-charge of the drums astounded me especially when Martin said they weren't musically trained and that electronic raggae stuff (14:28) was so hilarious for being so serious.. what could DM have become if that did happen? Bless you Andy🙏 Love DM❤🔥Forever. Great talk, great interview🎤☯
All guys look very fresh. Very happy!
Really...'the' best interview with these world class boys, ever...no doubt in my mind. All people within and round DM seem to have formed some sort of 'institution', that is built on a very strong and firm foundation, where there appears to be so much respect for eachother. Loved every sec of it...thanks a lot for uploading.
What struck me was just the respect amongst the three of them. At this point in their lives there's no need or room for ego, and it seems they really have a deep love for each other underneath the simple Dave and Martin smiling at each other on stage. It's like they've finally come to terms with the sum of the parts in so much bigger than the individual. That had been a problem for this band for years, now it seems they have accepted they are all brothers, very different from each other, but unable to reach the heights without the other...... Even Fletch who has the role as the buffer between the press and the other two, they need him for the glue, for the grounding. To be DM
@@MicahAckerman Well stated! Sadly with Fletch's passing it may be the end of Depeche Mode. Even if they do continue, it won't be the same without him, a huge loss to the band and DM fans.
".. with Vince leaving, with Alan lead... leaving..." heehh
Such a fun interview! They are hysterical and real.
I love DM and I love the questions from the audience. Really great vibe
I'd love seeing It subtitled :(
Good atmosphere and the guys seem relaxed, so the conversation went incredibly well
DEPECHE MODE is the best band in the world EVER.....fan of them for life
The one song that gets left of setlist and breaks my heart is One Caress.
Good that some of these GREAT "unknown" bands are being interview! More,Please!!
Good interviewer
What a wonderful interview.
What a fantastic interview, thank you!
Thank you DM. See you in Oakland!
Amazing interview and band !!
İ collected many of their vinyl remix songs. Bought them all in a second handshop back in the 90's for a price between 1 and 10 $.
Reminds me of a George Harrison interview circa 1963-ish.. where he explains the Beatles expected to be in the music business "at least four years" :D No one can predict these things!
Great audience. Enjoyed the interview in full.
I wish someone had asked them about the fashion choices they made over the years, especially Martin. 😁
Being a fan for a long time, I love seeing them together in an interview. I admire them so much and am influenced by them in writing my own lyrics. So much popular TOP 40 doesn't interest me. I want the words to mean something and take some thought. I love their concerts and am happy that they have endured for so long. So my best to them in their new album and tour. I'm surprised they have good sense of humors. I must say I always will miss Alan Wilder, he had a great influence on their sound. One More comment; I've always wondered too , how much Fletch influences their music and sound. I've heard a few tracks off of the Spirit album and haven't had a good listen, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
The soundtrack of my life; I had first attended their tour in 1990, last in 2017. I met and married a fellow Moder. with whom I traveled to another continent to attend shows on another continent. 21 total shows so far on 2 continents, 4 countries including 2 meet and greets. I hope that despite Fletch passing on, that Alan would rejoin and they could close out their careers that way.
Amazing interview & Q& A!
Wish it had been like this at the SOFAD listening party ☹️
i know and with Alan too ☹️
Thank you so much
RIP Fletch
Can you imagine the record companies that send Dave, Mart and Vince packing after their storied career.
❤Depeche Mode❣️
Great interview,
#foreverdepechemode
So interesting to watch these, otherwise confident, nearly pension age men fall back into their roles they had when there were 19.
Great interview!!!!!
Full interview (1:09:30) available on The New York Times Facebook.
"Ramonesy Beach Boys" is great. God only knows what I'd be without glue.
These guy’s are phenomenal 👏
a great interview
That was beautiful
This was absolutely beautiful ❤️
Amazing interview...
It's missing the beginning, please re-upload it.
Like Martin Gore's lyrics and music. Simple but complicated.
Es muy difícil pedir subtitulos de esto??
awesome!
Love you guys!
maken me cry on tga who dont know how it sings when dave said
Come back,come back to Brazil!
Great interview. But a bummer they didn't give much credit to Alan, whom brought the trained musician influence to the band.
Matt Carpenter agreed! Alan gave them their amazing sound. Hasn't been the same since he left
They always give shout outs to Alan. Please stop this nonsense.
Fantastic interview.
Haha 4 years later, still great.
Klasse!!!🌹
jus got me a 65" samsung curve very good 'ol chap'
Choosing Daniel Miller was the smartest choice they made🧐
DM FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is beautiful
I love them 🖤
the first part?
big hands🐸🙋🏻♂️👍🏼
Missing the first 10 minutes or so.
Alan Wilder
i miss subtitles
Fletch looks like the least person you'd expect to be in a band! Looks like he should be working in the accounts department for the council..so funny though
love it
14:28 - Dr Who and reggae?! 🤣
(I would seriously pay to see them cosplay Dr Who though...)
30:08 - Another Dr Who reference 🤣
A very nice interview, although I'm 5 years late. Seeing this after Fletch's untimely death is rather sad. While he may not have contributed that much musically speaking, he was nonetheless an integral part of Depeche Mode. The big question is, will Dave and Martin call it quits now? In light of the fact that it's been 5 years since their last album which is longer than usual and they're not getting any younger, and with the passing of Fletch, they certainly won't be releasing a new album and touring anytime soon if that was the plan prior to his death, so it seems like a good time for them to call it day. 😢
Like you i am revisiting everything Depeche Mode i can find on you tube since Fletch passed away. It really kicked me as it was so out of the blue. I recently saw another interview with Fletch and Daniel Miller. In it Fletch said they had been on a 4 year cycle for ages. A year off, a year writing, a year to put the album out and a year touring. With Covid that cycle would have been extended but this year or next we should have seen something. I’m not sure we will now what with Fletch being the one to get them together and was the glue of the band
@@thebletchleybiker7780 Yes indeed. Even if Dave & Martin decide to continue at some point, it just won't be the same without Fletch.
that said. it's true😎
I guess I have a few favourite DM songs, but the immediate ones would be 'in your room', 'black celebration', 'the lansdscape is changing', 'clean', 'always', and 'darkest star'... Never heard of the 'surrender' one.
All those songs Alan’s production
@@zeitesixx darkest star isn’t, that’s off playing the angel and Alan was long gone by then. A decade to be exact
@@TheSoniclen true that, all those songs were Alan’s , except Darkest Star, indeed
why is it not the whole interview?
I was wondering the same as you, it's tragic that it starts around 8 seconds in as far as I can tell?
on NYT fb page is the complete one
You know :D
Who makes Martins jacket?
Belstaff
I love Isabella!
wow imagine if vince woulda made depeche african raggae
African reggae? Since when is reggae anything other than Caribbean?
Флетч на Элтона Джона похож))))
Someone can find russian version of this int. Thanks
