Esther McVey MP and her MP husband are circumnavigating rules that MPs cannot pay off their mortgage on a home they have in London. So they’re rented a home in London at taxpayers expense and renting out the home they have a mortgage on. If we’re going to hold MPs to account then let’s hold ALL MPs to account.
Of course they CAN pay off a mortgage. Thousands mortgage holders rent out properties to cover the mortgage payments.
All those politicians who buy 2nd homes in London and get the taxpayer to pay up to £24,000 per year in interest payments should be forced to pay it all back when they leave parliament or sell the home. Why should they pocket the money they get it’s just sick.

Labour councillors are claiming empty properties, putting the houses up for sale and collecting and distributing the money through companies they own. They have been doing it for over 50 years.

I declared the sale of a second home to HMRC, as it turned out my liability was zero as the gain was below the threshold. If I can declare the sale of an asset to HMRC then there is no excuse for a politician not to do so. By the way the excuse of having received third party tax advice won't wash with the tax authorities.

If only Joe Public had such power when the police tell us there isnt the evidence to arrest someone or charge them and we dont agree with that . About every 20 years or so, the dishonesty over MPs expenses gets suspect enough for an enquiry,which for a time makes them more careful, although not neccessarily more honest. Wherever there is large sums of public money there will always be some form of corruption. It would not be surprising that if a thorough investigation was done today, with the now extensive use of computerisation and more sophisticated means of chanelling money to expense accounts, the results would be worse than it was before the last investigation, where some MPs were actually jailed. Nothing has changed and nothing will change unless these people are much more carefully scrutinised. We have already, in the last 10 years seen more attempted election fraud. Perhaps the people in charge of MPs behaviour have taken their eyes off the ball,

Here in Doncaster we had a local Labour councilor that " lived " in the village ( well his house was in the village ) while his wife lived in a big house in a neighbouring more up-market village and his son resided in another house of his in another village . Once his deals were done and land he owned sold he was off . But the point is he didn't live in the area really , he just kept a house there to be able to say " i'm local " .
Biggesrt scandal was him getting over £300k in lottery money and paying his son over £40k as an architect to design his new offices that ended up seeing over £20k in owed rent being wrote off and him moved into the parish hall with a new £5k budget for his quasi business groups he ran behind closed doors .

She sought advice from a tax advisor, it’s already been investigated once by the Police at the request of the Tories what materially has changed? Under the Tories home ownership has plummeted from 73% of the population to 50% under Sunak, it seems the modern Tories don’t like working class people owning property and certainly not making money from it! I'm a retired tax consultant. The statements made by Kate McCann about Capital Gains Tax being due could be completely incorrect. If a person has more than one home they can elect to have one treated as their Principal Private Residence for Capital Gains Tax purposes. it depends on the circumstances, which we have never been made aware of. Angela Raynor says the matter has been checked by an accountant who gave her the all clear on the tax position.

Any tax advice can only be as good as the information you give to the advisor. If you either lied or put spin on the information that they used to evaluate the situation and base their advice on then its ultimately worthless.

It’s already been investigated once and she sought advice from a tax advisor. I find it alarming the Police are willing to reopen closed investigations purely because an increasingly desperate Tory party 😅demands it without providing any new evidence or information. Especially so at a time when you can’t even get officers to attend crimes of theft and vandalism these days as they supposedly don’t have any resources.

The Labour Party ignore complaints. I raised one with the party about one of their MP’S lying to avoid answering a question I raised.with him. I raised a complaint with the Labour Party and never received a response from them, despite chasing it up two further times. What an absolute joke!

We have a teenager single parent, who never got a chance at school, then works as a care worker, then incredibly gets into government, buys her council house, has a second child born prematurely that’s blind, and the police are going to investigate for £1,500. Guess the Tories set this one up. It will cost the police far more for them to investigate, but what about those rich Tories, let’s inspect all their claim forms, 2nd houses, off shore accounts not paying tax to the country, including the royal family and PM but hunt down for £1,500 or not having a TV licence and if you have any benefits or pension it’s open day of

Where does this figure of £1500 capitol gains tax come from? do you know the capitol gain on the property she sold? I paid 5k capitol gains tax on a 50k gain this year, isnt it unlikely that the profit or capitol gain was so low that the tax would be so low?

This is incorrect. You do not have to live 100% of the time in your Main Principal Residence to avail of the exemption as long as you do not occupy another property OWNED by you. Even then the exemption is apportioned on a time basis between the two properties.

I’ve always had an issue with Labour MPs taking advantage of the Conservative Right to Buy scheme. They should have given their houses back to the state for someone else to have if they believe in social housing for those who need it most.
Also their children should be uneducated back to state school level, because they all go to private schools.
