Agree. That last patch is some of the most complex and interesting delay sounds I've heard. UGH! I'm really trying not to buy one. I JUST bought the QPAS and I absolutely Love it.
Every year I seem to cycle back into wanting to board the modular train, and every time I end up watching Make Noise videos - wondering how I'll be able to afford it all.
"Why stop anywhere?" Sage words indeed. It's great to see you back, btw. Fantastic demonstration, yet again, of the possibilities of this wonderful machine. Happy New Oof!
First of all, I am so happy the Mimeophon has LIGHTS. The QPAS and XPAN remain dark which is not a good thing in Eurorack especially when you forget to plug them in your bus power and wonder why they don't work. I was wondering what the MP would add to the equation since the Echophon repeats audio quite nicely. But then came FM, quantum mechanics and the inevitable how to turn a gate blip into an excellent organic plucky synth. Big wow. But it gets even better with the tempo synced Morphagene... I once wrote Tom Erbe should design the world's next drum machine. And he did. OMG.
4:29 Percussive sounds are so beautiful! I want to know how it was patched. What's patched to QPAS' audio input? And, is QPAS' Freq CV1 input used as filter freq fm via Optomix?
Loving the stereo. Could Rene utilize x y z for moving sound and fx? Also, love to understand more about the distortion. Is distortion controllable or just an extreme output? Thanks!
the distortion created here was by engaging Flip in the shortest Zones (particularly Zone 0), where there is not enough delay time for Flip to engage in the way it normally does (as we put it in the manual, it is a minor limitation in the Mimeophon's time travel capabilities). So it is flipping the Repeats at audio rate with no significant filtering. This creates strange harmonic motion especially when coupled with sound sources that are not running at related frequencies, so modulating Rate (especially while Skewed) and Color opens up kind of a timbral playground.
Modulating Rate without Tempo-Sync or Flip engaged does cause the pitch to change during Rate changes, yes. Switching Zones is always an instantaneous change, but most Zones have a decent range of possible Rates for you to play with.
There's no control called "pitch" because Rate isn't a continuous control when tempo-synced. Also pitch shifting due to changing Rate is always temporary, which is why we call it "doppler" - it's due to the continuous change in Rate while there is sound in it. Once it stops the pitch will stabilize. In other words, it is not like the Pitch control on the Echophon in any way. I hope that makes sense?
@@reecedeyoung6595 i don't think so... the apparent pitch shifting due to rate changes in delays is due to motion, would be very difficult to make it static
I am the proud owner of a Black and Gold, but my Erbe, when mix is turned up, kills the volume and power of my DPO. Does the Mimeo do the same with Halo and it the Mimeo a good module to replace the Erbe and Echophon? That would give me room for qpas and X pan, maybe.
Like any Mix circuit the Mix on Mimeophon is a crossfade between the dry and wet signal. You could try patching the Erbe-Verb as a return effect instead if you don't want to drop the dry volume.
question: what is the little window at 8 o'clock on the COLOR knob for? it looks as tho that is there for an LED indicator. but it never lights and there is no info in the manual. thanks.
There are three possible colors on the faceplate: white, gold, and transparent. The three boxes around the control represent all three colors. We have transparent as the "darkest" with CCW, white as the "unity" at 3:00, and gold as the "shiny" with the Color control fully CW.
what's the IO delay on this like? Like, if you put it thru external modules in a feedback loop at audio rate, how out of tune would it get? (assuming the external modules don't have their own I/O delay)
Interesting to hear that the founder of Make Noise, TR, is a self-taught engineer … Ben’s interview with him a couple years back is very good : ua-cam.com/video/uLJuuCbJHKM/v-deo.html
Ugliest panels, but incredible engineering! I watch them all! I'm guessing I can't recreate this panel with a handful of 4000 Series CMOS chips. 😛 Everyone, you're missing out if you don't listen to this with a great pair of headphones! P.S. At 10:31, my bra unclasped all by itself.
It gets that all the time, but it’s actually a delay unit that’s gotten sober and can now far exceed its wildest psychedelic fever dreams cuz it finally started eating right, finishing things it begins, and has effectively channeled all its energy into learning how to program Unix or whatever the fuck is under its own little hood and is now self-actualizing at proton reversal times the speed of light cubed.
I like the potential on this module but the base track was annoying as hell. That being said, I'll probably be switching my Morphagene for this. Well done!
Wow, the first half of the video's demos are great, but the latter half is mind-blowing. Some really amazing possibilities with this thing...

Gotta love the deadpan delivery of “total protonic reversal”. Excuse me Egon, you said modulating the flip would be bad.
We always aim for the flattop 👻
That jam at the end has me hooked. What a fantastic module.
Every year I seem to cycle back into wanting to board the modular train, and every time I end up watching Make Noise videos - wondering how I'll be able to afford it all.
Just ordered one today. The last piece you played should be released as a track. Incredible!
Amazing module again. Great how it pairs with the DPO and the QPass. Already ordered at Schneiders.
That last patch.... Wow. Nicely done.
Those drums at the end are pure fire 🔥
It is great to see another stereo module with creative time-based buffer manipulation effects.
Hi! I’d like to know about other stuff like that! Could you tell me some other modules?

Thank you again, Dan! Happy new Oof to you :)

I love this module. Make Noise keep doing things right.
I actually closed my eyes during that final jam. Extremely spicy, Walker.
thank you!! it was based on the patch "repeater eater" from the manual :)
12:30 - OMFG. AMAZBALLS!
Just ordered mine. Looking forward to using it with my Make Noise 0-coast and other modular gear.
Ok, you got me. Around min. 12. You got me.
Just got my mimeophon and the Spectraphon > QPAS > mimeophon is nuttier than squirrel poop👍 thanks for being so far out Make Noise!
11:20 is like Coil's Red Birds / Tangerine Dream Phaedra! in the best way :)
Spent my Christmas holiday with my guitar hooked up to this thing - absolutely brilliant! (Despite my wife threatening me with a divorce....haha).
You and the wife still going strong Walter?

Now I want to know too.
