It’s this or the Chronoblob 2- and although I love Make Noise gear the size, and the fact that it’s about £200 more, mitigates rather against the Mimeophon. Not without a backward glance mind you… Thanks for the demo. Three weeks later: I bought the Mimeophon after all, and love it! Again, thank you!
I already bought a Mimeophon, and am currently in the process of building my new rack so I haven't played with it yet... thanks for selling it to me again.
A friend of mine convinced me to get this even when I explained that I have a Magneto in the rack and about 4 Strymon delay pedals I can bring into the mix at any given time. I still needed this.
Delay, especially synced delay is such an important component of electronic music, whether ambient, dance, techno. The Mimeophone seems to excel in this department! I have many delays at my disposal, only one hardware, an old Zoom RFX 2000, which is fine for delays etc, but a pain to sync to anything! Plug-ins are great, and easy to sync, but not very ‘hands on’ of course. Think I need to make room for a Mim. 😊
as you have done videos on every module included in the Tape and Microsound Music Machine i would be interested to see you do a video on the set as a whole
Oh, my god. "You could say, if you put your finger on it, then you flip it and reverse it." Jesus, you just made me laugh out loud at 4 am. If I'd been holding my wine, I'd have spilled it all over myself.
I understand when you say you get a kraftwerk vibe.. But honestly when I heard that reverb and delay I got a real big "Two lone swordsmen" vibe rest in peace Andrew! Long live Keith tenniswood/radioactive man
This is like a beefed up Boss RSD-10, super nice! Those Boss's are getting harder to find so this would be a good alt. Or the 4ms DLD, but the halo and color controls on here makes it super lush. But having both and a boss would be nice too haha!
Mimeophon for immediacy and perfectly synced delay, Sealegs for vibe and ability to sound like lots of different delays/be super sculptable. Wont be getting rid of either
@@mylarmelodies Thank you for your description but I'm still torn! I'm thinking of going the Mimeophon route though. I feel like I can't go wrong with either one.
if you want esoteric side of mimeo - try firuring out the logic behind changing clock when activating Hold =/ Also some offtopic: how do you manage headroom in your setup? Do you consider it at all?
Yep, gain staging is always important - you'll note I use the 2HP Trim and the Abstract Data ADE-60 as attenuators to get the percussion in line and then submix them down.
@@mylarmelodies it significantly lowers signal/noise ratio, so I am thinking more of some env. following / compression / eq But trimming is needed nonetheless, agree
Great review, as always makes me want to chase this module down. What sort of signal do you patch into the “micro jiggle” input? That was the only thing I didn’t quite understand.
Erica Pico DSP is probably the best choice for tiny form factor delay module. 3hp. It is very limited in terms of delay times, modulation and sonic flexibilty (esp compared to Mimeophon - really not even the same league), but the sound quality is quite good. Much better than 2hp Delay, which is very metallic sounding. It also has more than just delay, it's a multi fx module with good audio quality in a tiny footprint.
The last tune you do is just amazing! If I sign up to patreon can you help me with my Modular set up! I’ve bought the Make Noise case and slowly working out what modules I want/need! I have already bought Maths and Plaits and currently bidding for Mimeophon. Also have 0-coast and Strega and the Moog Matriarch. I have the Pulsar 23 for drums but would also like a drum or percussion module so that at times I can just use the case. Many thanks
Vastly different thing - one is a more simple delay and reverb (obviously with huge range and tricks up its sleeve). The other is basically a H3000 in Eurorack. Sort of.
@@ThreetomModular It totally depends on your musical goals and how you like to interact with things. My needs aren't necessarily the same as yours. If I pick one it's like saying that one is better, but that isn't true or fair. So if you crave live immediacy, simplicity, quick results, and more 'traditional' sounds, Mimeophon may be more quickly gratifying. But bear in mind Rainmaker loads presets and has controls to rinse live (note: Mod A, Mod B). You would spend a LOT of time learning the Rainmaker and making presets for it, but once made, it's capable of nearly anything a delay can do, plus there's a comb filter. With Mimeophon you'll pretty much have mastered it in an hour, but it doesn't do as much. If someone told me I could only have one effect forever, I'd obviously pick the Rainmaker. But Mimeophon is in my live case currently (Rainmaker is in my studio case)
@@mylarmelodies Thanks a lot for such an elaborate answer, it helps a lot :). I just sold my Magneto, and I'm trying to decide what I'll get instead. What bothered me a bit about the Magneto is that I found it wasn't that great throw modulation at and the amount of sounds you could get out of it was perhaps a bit too limited. I think both the Mimeophon and the Rainmaker should be better in that regard. I wonder if I will find the Mimeophon limited or not after a while. The random function on the Rainmaker also seems to hold a lot of potential for instant gratification, no?
Have you noticed the noise floor of this module to be a bit excessive? This seems to be an issue for some based on what I’ve read in the forums as of late...
Listen in the vid carefully and you can hear noise - I mention it actually, but only with repeats. Eg. It’s a delay so it compounds sound, including when you feed it noisy analog signals. I don’t think it adds noise of its own, it highlights your noisy path!! And the colour knob instantly rolls off the noise if you use it slightly. I think people are barking up the wrong tree?
Just got the Tape & Microsound Music Machine, and it’s making me regret the fact that I have to sleep at least 5 hours a night to function. I love your hand raves. Question: is this kind of like the Rossum Panharmonium? I have to say, if they are in the same league, I like what I hear out of this much better.
@@mylarmelodies Yeah, from what I've researched, the Panharmonium seems to be like a packet glitch machine (among other things), whereas the Mimeophon is almost like an effects garden in stereo. Kind of like the echoplex-meets-revox of the 21st century.
Wow! I've been looking for an interesting module like this to possibly replace clouds which I've never fully got along with. This could be the one....although every module review you post I end up chasing. 👍🏻
I did this yesterday. I tried to make Clouds work for 2 years and it just never did it for me. Had this thing for 24 hours and I literally dreamed about it last night, and thought about it all day at work. It's incredible.

This is really cool, but quite big and costly for a delay. What alternatives would people recommend checking out?
Mentat chronoblob 2
Or Chronoblob one if smaller size (10hp vs 12hp) is a greater need than stereo processing.
