DIY Beams 3SGE Engine Prep & Paint - 1977 Toyota Celica Rebuild - S3E08

- Опубліковано 4 лис 2024
- While our 1977 Toyota Celica GT coupe waits for paint, we give its Beams 3SGE Blacktop iron engine block a serious cleaning and prep using POR15 Cleaner & Degreaser as well as their Metal Prep solution before applying their Engine Enamel (designed specifically to take heat up to 350F). After that we prep and paint the front subframe and engine brackets using POR15's Stop Rust Kit, which includes everything you need for the job including the cleaner/degreaser, metal prep, and rust prevention coating as well as two brushes and rubber gloves. Oh, and we also test Tom's Turbo Garage fondness for Scrubbing Bubbles as a method of cleaning car parts while giving the J160 transmission a clean up.

The Ford RS Orange :-) Kind regards from Norway :-)
For how long?
Metallic grey/gunmetal with focus orange valve cover & calipers.
Personally I would go with silver or a gun metal color. Keep it looking smart and elegant rather than a boy racer. I mean it's a beautiful car and your not 18. 😅
The original Celica orange is my vote. 👍🏻
Orion Turquoise!!! Super unique, period correct color that also pops. Period correct orange would be next, but it always struck me as too common on 70's/early 80's cars.
Come over to the Turquoise dark side!
-Turquoise Pearl Metallic SW20 owner
I’m in for the Green. That green would give the car sorta a “gentleman racer” look
You Gotta paint the car a period OE colour 👍🏻 the original Orange is 😎
Most intense engine disassembly I’ve even seen when coupled with that music. Made me sweaty.
Orion Turquoise looks solid imo. Subtle, yet aggressive.
Glad you changed your mind from the gray. All of the new colors pop more and would be great what ever way you go.
That green from the ae86 will look super nice. Classy.
I had a 74 in almost that same green and it looked amazing!!
Definitely the celica orange is the way to go. Great channel!!
I have a Tangerine Scream Focus ST and it's a great color, but I'd love to see Connie in Hakone Green
Turbo Tom is awesome. He does everything 100% properly. Not like you cowboys. I really admire his methodical way of doing things and especially his attention to detail. I say do it once, do it right.
"STREET BANITOS FOR PAINT?!:"
they are awesome
Célica orange for sure.
Definitely the green. It would look super classy, while still standing out and looking different
That classic Celica orange is an awesome colour. Sure make Connie pop.
Orion Turquoise Metallic gets my vote. It's such a classic color. If I had a fallback it, it wold be the classic Celica Orange. If/when you're passing through PA which I'm pretty sure you'll have to on our way to Baltimore. Let me know, I'd be happy to treat you to a meal and beer, socially distant of course, as you you pass through. Great progress.
Awesome little clean up, this car is gonna be hot fire when it's done! I like that classic celica orange personally, but whichever color you pick is gonna be sweet!
Go the 86 green. No one else would have one that colour.
My vote is silver though like you were originally thinking!
100% Hakone Green or similar green. It's a classy color that you will never regret or get tired of. Plus the green will look even better on a classic celica.
Our family used to have a 79 Corolla in a metallic brown that looked great after a wash and wax and didn't look bad when dirty either. Of the 4 colors you listed I like the first green the best.
You wont be disappointed with the lightened flywheel. I have gone from dual mass to lightened flywheel on my V6 Alfa its a massive improvement on that car. Money well spent.
hakone green looks awesome!
Love the Tom’s Turbo Garage shout out!!
OEM Orange for sure.
Hakone Green!
For cleaning I would recommend Super Clean or Purple Power. works like a champ, but requires some ventilation.
Go Classic Orange. You won't regret it👍
I love orange but I think I'm voting for the green. Very nice.
I’ve seen these cars with a darker blue looks good, though The ones I’ve seen online in a darker metallic grey looks real sharp. The one that instantly caught my eye was a very shiny black with gold/copper wheels. I not the biggest fan of black but with the curves and wheels it looked fantastic.
I used the POR engine enamel on my Evo 9 block recently. It was massively rusty in spots, esp near dipstick. Very happy with the way it turned out.
For the engine enamel I did a coat of the normal rust preventative the 2 coats of engine enamel. Iirc that's what the instructions said
the 4th option on the color choices looks awsome
I had found degreaser + brass wire brush worked really well on my very dirty and corroded aluminum control arms of my evo
Agreed, the wire can be a little bit harsh for some applications, but soft wire wool or even scotch brite can be used in its place. But overall this is exactly what I use and it's done a great job for years now
In this episode, Dave makes aggressive love to a transmission 2:35 😂
PT k-swaps another vehicle, and Moose uses a hammer
Such intense montage music
Orion turquoise!! U wont regret it! It looks vintage correct you will stand out a very unique amazing color!
Go with green, i never seen a 77 celica with that color
I think a mix of that focus tangerine and the celica orange would look hot!
That’s my wishlist car...Love it .
If you do it Green - Lexus Sage Green.
I love your work & enthusiasm guys.
Of the four color choices I say turquoise metallic, but Toyota speedway blue would look great as well!
Man my initial suggestion was the new Toyota Olive Drab but the Orange really suits that car! My vote is the modern Focus ST Orange! And a TRD tri color stripe down the side would set it off!
The green really is getting me
Classic Orange!
I think that hakone green would be gorgeous
Definitely Tangerine Scream of those 4 options.
I like that last turquoise one
Id say it looks much better!! Rust is something I couldn't deal with haha
I just used their caliper kit. It works fantastic, I cant see the calipers rusting again.
Celica orange
Where did you find out manufacture dates for the engine stickers? I have a transverse BEAMS engine going into my MR2 with the sticker code “C0”. I’m curious as to the date of production and I’m having difficulty finding that info.
Hakone green is a great color!
Classic Orange - I had one that colour. Nicceeee
I 1000000% vote for that Hakone Green color.
Connie's going to be so sick!!
This Celica has an Iconic style.
My take would have an UZ & a 5spd
My newest favorite color from a car manufacturer is the Royal Crimson Red from Ford that was used on the 2018 Mustang GT
Celica Orange!
this type of videos really satisfying 🌌
Even tho you would never see it it would be sweet to see you vapor blast the trans. Doubt it would fit in your cabinet tho.
Celica Orange my friend
my 77 celica fastback is a mustang light blue kinda color. Its a bit like the grey look you guys talked about but not grey. The chrome smiley bumpers pop a bit more and black accents look great on it. Just saying :p
If you do the OEM orange, you could easily vinyl your own take on the old TRD livery if you ever wanted to try something different in the future
Your doing my dream carrrr!
Classic Orange
I love this build
Could be for correcting the backlash in the drivertrain, like the some spring loaded clutches
Happy you have not given up on it. Would it be possible to get a copy of your ecu tune?...🙈
A caustic soda on the etched aluminum works really well.
I always use Dollar Store oven cleaner, Lye in a spray can, to clean greasy engines and transmissions. Comes in a yellow can down here in the US
Lye is supposed to react with aluminum, but Ive had great luck and so far no adverse effects. REALLY powerful and cheap
Not that your transmission needs it like mine did
Love the video edit!
Celica orange!
The new orange is cool
I think the OEM light blue would look great on this car.
Classic Orange ALL THE WAY!
GT86 green FTW
Celica Orange
ZEP degreaser, can find it at Home Depot... works amazing!
Celica Orange FTW
Pretty good termostat
Definitely the green
I say for this build, go with the Turquoise👍 to make things pop and be unique
New GT 86 green!
I voted for the OEM orange because I'm a purist, but god that Hakone green looks good...
All those colors are great but I'd do either the turquoise or green
Antisieze is not just for the threads.
If you’re putting a bolt through alloy into steel or iron coat the whole bolt or even paint it with a corrosion inhibitor.
I could be wrong but isnt powder coating not-hydrophobic??? So the subframe gets a lot of moisture it could lead to that rust you showed
Love this build, great ending hahaha
Classic Celica orange
can't wait to see the banditos spray this car!
Toronto Motorsports Park was out of control yesterday, i wonder what u guys take on it
Green or I unsubscribe... JK I could never unsubscribe, but seriously that green is the best color.
Do you know of a usdm cat that will fit so I can pass smog? Any information would be greatly appreciated. 👍 Love watching your videos
For the beams black top
The Frd RS Orange :-) Knd regards from Norway :-)
Turbo Tom also uses a power washer
Looks great Dave! But, all that cardboard laid out on the floor and not even a backspin?
slika orange ftw!!!!!
I guess all that clean surface helps for a good heat transfer for cooling purpose of the equipment.
Celica orange is my colour choice
Orange always the best
More Skids on YT just finished their AE86 Beams swap.
Classy bunch of folks ...
