That, is where it gets tricky and all of that greatly changes the modulus and hardness. So much of it is proprietary process, and so much of that is trade secret where one company doesnt want other companies learning their tricks that companies are very tricky with how they word things around their barrel steels and coatings. The Gas block is a Samson gas block. The barrel is probably a oem from a barrel manufacturer as bear creek doesn’t offer a chrome lined barrel, unless they are buying rifled blanks and making the barrels.
Accuracy snobs claim clamp-style gas blocks are inherently more accurate as opposed to traditional set screw types because the clamping force is more uniform. They also claim when using set screw type gas blocks, ordinary set screws can affect accuracy according to how tight you tighten them. They even claim that using knurled set screws will throw off accuracy. When it comes to pinning, to them that's the worst because that affects barel harmonics, so they say.

In re: dimpled gas blocks, honestly that's more than enough piece of mind unless you're buying from BCA. (And yes, my first and only BCA rifle had a dimpled barrel, and magically the gas block still walked off somehow, lmao!)
Ngl I think I'd prefer a beefy screw on gas block like this. I don't mind the issues it creates, you can just get a 3-slot wide cover plate and cut the bits off in the middle of it.

This is very close to one of my builds.. I started with an FN CHF mid PSA rifle with std handguards. I ground down the FSB so that it fits under the rail; and I installed K2 grip, and a similar handguard.. basic 15" m-lok.. I think I'd probably rather have a 13" handguard instead, but it's still great. And between the CHF CH lined barrel and the double pinned FSB under the rail-- I would definitely consider it a "duty" setup. I forget which bolt and trigger is in it now.. I've swapped them around all my rifles so many times... I'd have to check
Nice review. I'm interested in the other model that takes standard AK mags. Given the number of mags in 7.62x39 and cases of it on hand, that would be more interesting to me. Nice presentation. Always enjoy watching your content.
If you lop off the momentary pressure pad on the HLX switch, the clicky part still works. I took some shitty black nylon rope from a drawstring bag and melted it over the exposed cross section of the cut. Light ND when slinging my rifle on my back became way less of an issue. Light caps recommended regardless. Should you go with a sure fire from the start? Probably. But if you didn't like me, there ya go.
😮 what's your hang up with cassette style triggers? My POF is of that style, without complaint... It's for sport and I clean it more often than any duty tool would be... Aside from tighter spaces for junk to get stuck, I don't see any downside.
Looks like somebody finally designed a handguard fitment to a milspec upper that doesn't look stupid. Someone should alert Geissele it's possible to consider that matchup.
A chrome lined barrel is a plus, but dont let it be a deal breaker. Lots of guns that are famous for their reliability never came with chrome lined barrels. HK G3/91's, all of the inch pattern FAL's and some of the metric FAL's, early M70's, and even some of the early Mk-14 EBR's did not have chrome lined barrels. Chrome lining is a nice feature but not a be-all/end-all.
Honestly I’d say it’s a deal breaker if you intend on shooting a lot of corrosive ammo; a chrome lined barrel makes sense to me if you want an AK or SKS and have cases of the corrosive surplus ammo, otherwise if your shooting commercial ammo it’s more of a nice to have instead of a need to have.
I'm not understanding the question on barrel material and coatings . What do we not know or are we not telling? Why alloys and treatments and coatings effect accuracy?

@@Yoloswegrekt360noscope bca just started offering chf barrels....not sure if they are CL though
@@Yoloswegrekt360noscope I wasn't saying the barrel was BCA, I just didn't see what it looked like and who the OEM was.
@@FocusTripp it looked vaguely rosco'y to me, and I think Rosco did OEM some button rifled chrome lined barrels at some point?
Welcome to West by God Virginia!.. Hop in those hills now... Lets go eers!.
This all sounds very plausible!
I find myself gravitating towards ODG rifles w/FDE furniture lately…
It looks so good. The best one I've seen is Brass Facts Fixie rifle
@@ViolentbyDesign Hell yeah, I do the same. I can’t stand leaving any of mine all black. I do have 2 though that I did like with ODG Aluma-Hyde and FDE furniture.
Ironically the first one I put together was all black, since then none have been. Really dig the odg right now too.
Goes together like peanut butter & jelly.
@@ViolentbyDesignAfter having just stripped a rattle can job someone else did off a scope and mount, screw painting anything that goes on a gun, the experience of painstakingly undoing it was awful. So many Q tips. So much acetone.
I was beginning to worry that Hop was not going to find anything wrong with this rifle. The downside is that the manufacturer will most likely retrofit the minor issue with the gas block and there will be no reason why we will not add this near perfect and extremely affordable rifle to our collection.
I have purchased from them. They are good people.
I swear, that 1-8 FFP Vortex is the biggest bang-for-your-buck optic on the market rn! Amazing optic.
It's pretty low on hops like list last I checked lol. PA nova is better
Only 2:¹⁵ in and had to laugh. The shirt under the chest rig stole my attention. I'm sitting staring at it trying to figure out what Clan Tartan that is. Being Scottish is an odd affliction.
Now, back to the video!
Makes me happy to see Magpul "L-Plates" on all your GI mags.... :D
Can’t help but liking some chrome lining.
I bought one of their plan b flash hiders, it's solid. They had an awesome looking blast mitigator on sale over Black Friday.
Pro tip: use a longer bottom mlok rail cover by slate or rail scales or anyother company where the mlok t nuts go before and aft of the gas block itself. I honestly forgot where i got my g10 scales from. Its been so long but its like 4 inches long and covers 3 mlok sections. And the t nuts go before and aft of the gas block.
Excellent aesthetics, solid features, just wish they made it in a 14.5 p/w …well p/w with a comp since im in a ban state.
I don’t think anyone besides Aero has ever done that though. But that’s also very particular to my state.
Wild and Wonderful WV!
There's so much about AR's I don't know.
You and I seem to have similar taste in rifles. If I was to get this rifle, I can not think of anything to change on it. Put my favorite optic on it and...done. I could put in my favorite Hyperfire safety lever but frankly this short throw one is very similar to that anyway. OH, I know. I have kind of gotten away from having a foward assist, so I guess that is not totally perfect. Just so perfect I would not bother changing it.
In re: dimpled gas blocks, honestly that's more than enough piece of mind unless you're buying from BCA. (And yes, my first and only BCA rifle had a dimpled barrel, and magically the gas block still walked off somehow, lmao!)
What a GREAT looking rifle!
u can trim the magpup rail covers and try again.
i had to do with my adjustable gas block 18"...
Man that green and tan is such a vibe. I might have to bust out the paint cans again and choose a rifle.
Good rifle, from my home state.... Sold
8:52 I dremal the mlok section where it'll be over the block.
I have a wolfpack armory 7.62x39 Wolverine. Love that thing
Seems like a quality carbine. Like the color.
Have you reviewed the M&P 15 III ?
Needs a cerakoted buffer tube. Solid otherwise. I like flipping every part fde/od green. It’s easy to order that way to fit your builds.
Ngl I think I'd prefer a beefy screw on gas block like this. I don't mind the issues it creates, you can just get a 3-slot wide cover plate and cut the bits off in the middle of it.
@5:24 I have the exact charging handle made by Trybe Defense, bought it in early 2019, they probably bought the design. paid 29.99, oh how the prices have changed.
I’ve been seeing these guys’ rifles in shops near me as I’m only 35 minutes away from Fairmont, but I’ve never given much of a look since they appear to be more of a lower grade rifle. I’ll check one of these out thanks.
He specifically likes the momentary section lol.
I ordered a Wolfpack Armory complete lower and I can’t wait to get it, I’m planning on building out a 300BLK pistol with it
Of note, the Wolf Pack Plan B mount uses a different wrench size than the Rearden Plan B options. May be helpful info for someone.
😮 what's your hang up with cassette style triggers? My POF is of that style, without complaint... It's for sport and I clean it more often than any duty tool would be... Aside from tighter spaces for junk to get stuck, I don't see any downside.
Not a fan of the trigger feel usually, and then the horror stories of them completely dying when little bits of stuff get in there.
Looks like somebody finally designed a handguard fitment to a milspec upper that doesn't look stupid. Someone should alert Geissele it's possible to consider that matchup.
Very comfy review. Idk what I mean by that but I stand by it
That's a nice rifle... damn I kinda want one now, so much nice stuff, so little money.
Holy shit! A rifle that Hop didn't complain about! I better go buy a lottery ticket! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
According to the navy ... your LPVO is backwards
According to the Marines my LPVO isn't heavy enough and according to the Army it isn't crappy enough.
You need to adjust your neck servos as it seems they are randomly moving is a non-human way. Perhaps after a full re-charge, the issue will go away.
That is genuinely one of the most interesting ARs on the market. And for that price? Oh man. They even made it in the best color ever
I'm not understanding the question on barrel material and coatings . What do we not know or are we not telling? Why alloys and treatments and coatings effect accuracy?
We seem to be lacking consensus on the benefits of CHF, CL, 4140 vs 4150, etc.
I was curious about their exhaust tip thing as compared to the stupid expensive Q dingus when not running a can...
Before I die, I want to see Hop smile just one time.
i think the main gripe i have is the non pinned gas block for a " duty " rifle. everything else seems pretty solid
I see why you'd think that but I've never had an issue just putting loctite red and using a torque wrench, fair criticism though
@@flavortown3781 same, and if they hadnt used the word "duty" i wouldnt have even though about it.
@@mtnbound2764 I personally have had more pins break or walk than loctite come loose, but pins walking on 20+ year old colts isnt unusual they are pretty tired by the time my ass gets them
I’m wearing full kit to watch this
I really like WPAs 45 cal pcc. Their ar47 also looks interesting. Since suppressor waits are so short now. You should get in contact with Griffin. I'm sure they would send you some stuff for review!
Have you tried the bcm skinny mlok slot grips? Those always seem to clear super close gas blocks to the rail.
How gassy is it with the Polonium K? I'm tempted to get the CQB Pistol and a K to go with it but I'm sadly left handed and dunno how bad the gas'll get. I imagine you got one with the standard carbine buffer
