Mine worked and I liked it , changed the battery a couple times but it did die , but I did have a two into one exhaust that came close to it so the heat might have killed it . I put my original dip stick back in .
I ordered mine for my Sportster back in October and it arrived yesterday! I went with the black dipstick and I also ordered the black bezel to surround the dipstick to get rid of the chrome, and it looks and works amazing! The dipstick was roughly $200 and the vivid black bezel was $25. It was a bit pricey but all authentic HD parts are, and it is top quality build material used. It looks tough as nails.
If I spent two hundred bucks buying a fancy dipstick for my Sportster, I'd be worried about some low life scum stealing it, you'd think that H-D would fit some kind of locking device on these expensive dipsticks.
@@davidmacgregor5193 You aren't wrong, that was $200 cdn which is like 150US but still that isn't cheap for something someone could steal in a few seconds. I never really thought about it!
Just tried it on a 2021 RG Ltd. It works, but it's impossible or near impossible to read in the sunlight. I did find out that at 102-104 ambient, 70 -75 mph for one hour, oil on the twin cooled 114 gets to 254 deg F--just OK if you run real synthetic like Amsoil not Syn 3 (at most 50%-60% real synthetic). In traffic, the twin cool seems to keep it in check on hot days, but don't go revving it while stopped and short shift it to get it moving. There is an oil cooler made by Mr. Clarkes (Oil Bud) that would help this without blocking air flow to the cylinders, but it's not cheap and Harley engineers as always are just keeping it in lane without an oil cooler on these twin cooled. P.S. probably should not ever close the lower air vents unless it's freezing outside!
I bought the model for the M8, P/N 62700194. After a couple of rides, the LCD display for the numbers would start blanking out and now there is only a couple of the LCD segments working. Replace it under warranty. After my first ride, the same thing started happening again. But the display for the Fahrenheit degree indicator and the oil level indicator are fine. So when the gauge is submitted to temperatures of more than 200 degrees Fahrenheit, the LCD display for the numbers stops working. I am dissapointed as the reason I bought is so I can monitor the temperature as I am riding. I also had the model for the Softail Deluxe and that one got full of condensation after a ride in the rain. So I had not had a good experience with these gauges.
I got one with my reward card. was upside down too, I tried to move it around and screwed it up , got frustrated and threw it away.....on occasion put the stock filler cap in just to verify the level. As I believe that's the oil temp, not the engine temp. Or should they be the same ?
Oh man, sorry that didn't work out, but if its that easy to mess up then I'll leave it as is. I did find a temp disparity when I measured with my heat gun, but not hugely. The engine temp varied with the gun depending on WHERE you took a reading. So the oil and engine temp won't every match and depending on WHERE you are taking your engine reading, the disparity could be surprisingly wide. I wasn't expecting this to be precise. But I think its good enough to get a warning if something is way off. So far so good.
@@nwroadrat I plan on doing a test with my Vance and Hines fuelpak to see what the engine and oil temp reads from my ecm to the fuelpak/phone and what the temp reads on the dipstick, and finally I want to hit the oil with a temp gun for a final number!
I had one of these back in 09 which worked well. Got another one in 2018 and it was crap. Never worked well. The one that worked well was the Chrome one with the blue backlight. The one in 2018 was the black one with the typical Grey led background with black l.E.D. numbers. I got ANOTHER ONE and it performed worse. For the money they cost I was livid and extreme disappointed in the quality and unreliability of them and to this day I use the stock plastic one.
It eventually stopped working. It lasted a little over a couple years. I transferred it to my Ultra. It didn't run as hot as my prior bike so I wasn't upset when it died. While mine lasted awhile, others as reported below in the comments was much shorter. I'd still get one on a deal, maybe not at full price.
I have one on my '95 wide glide and tried taking the screws out but it does not separate to change the battery. And can't find a video on how to do so. So for now it's a fancy light that doesn't show anything at the moment haha.
Wife bought me one as a gift in December in the north country we don't ride in the winter. Spring arrived and first ride started raining not long about 5 miles get home and its full of water and digital display is not working anymore so took it to my dealer tells me can't help me purchased over 90 days ago wtf I'm pissed off and start argument about winter in Minnesota and riding lots of other customers at the counter and are watching this parts guy sees this and agrees to replace it. I take the replacement and install on bike after first wash same thing happens go back and now he tells me I should not get it wet there's nothing more he can do............yes they lost a 30 year customer I still have it on the bike and still don't work
Interesting you ask. It stopped working about 2 months ago. So it lasted a little over a couple years. A new battery didn't make a difference. I transferred it to my Ultra. The Ultra didn't burn oil up and it didn't run as hot as my prior bike. So I didn't care.
I was thinking of getting one too. Kinda cool.
I had this on my last bike. Great add-on and made it very easy to check temp.
I'm loving it. Is there one out for the M8 yet?
TheRoadRatt I honestly haven’t checked.
That is freaking cool! Love it! Ride safe.
I can't stop playing with it! :)

I enjoyed the video, Thank you, "Big Cheese".. Cheers, Mate.
Ok That was cool I see the advantage of that thanks for posting. I subscribed to your channel. I also post motorcycle Harley content cheers.

Bought one for my 03 road king classic nothing but problems 150 dollar pos went back to the original dip stick
Nice gadget . I look forward to an update . Maybe some random checks while your out riding.
Ride safe and stay blessed
Will do followup.

The online Harley store did not have one good review. All had similar problems like yours
My Harley came with one but it gives me the temp and also says no srnsor.

I have a friend who is going to install the 'oil bud'. Different platform but interesting.
I've heard of those units, but don't know much about them. Would love to hear feedback.
The oil bud is an oil cooler, correct? I don't know anything about them.

FYI battery doesn’t last but a few a few months
How do you change the battery on the dipstick?
There's some small screws you need to remove. You'll need a precision screwdriver set.
How do you change the battery on that
Very carefully. Tiny screws to undo.
I have one on my '95 wide glide and tried taking the screws out but it does not separate to change the battery. And can't find a video on how to do so. So for now it's a fancy light that doesn't show anything at the moment haha.
I had one, less than a year and it had water get into the gauge, shorted it out. Big waste of money.

They don't seem to be moisture resistant like a speedometer. Could try taking it apart and drying it out. I did that once, and it came back to life.
Does it still work??

@@nwroadrat wonder what kind of warranty Harley offers on that? Don’t imagine much...
On something like this, I doubt any company offers much. It served its purpose and its main purpose was for the prior bike.
