- Making a DIY Oil Temperature Dipstick for my Harley Davidson. I have a proper one coming soon but thought it would be fun to try to make one for myself and test it on my M8 Softail and compare it to the FP3 tuner data which gives me engine temperature readings. You can buy the oil temperature dipsticks online but they do cost a fair bit of coin, but here are some links from the items used in the video and for the dipstick I have on order.

Ok ok. A bit a fun... Basic idea is very good. The oil cooler only cools the oil going to the top of the motor
Then goes back to the oil tank. The cool oil doesn't go to the whole motor. 🧐 Now to the temperature gauge... love your idea, you could have gotten one with a smaller face so it doesn't look gordy... My friends and mechanics would lauph at me. It would be the topic of the month. "I LIKE IT" Thanks for your hard work. Shiny side up 👍

You can hang dingle balls off your dip stick creation. Try it! I am sure it will lower the temp even more because it's so cool.

Not to be negative but back in the 70s I built a lot of motors took them apart put them back together, I found out using silicone is a ( bad idea ) !!! Pieces of silicone break off and log in oil arteries then restrict the oil in that area , not good
If you cut the plastic off beneath where the thermometer sticks out, when you get home from riding, you can take it in with you and use it to check your chicken's temp. You can even stick it under your tongue when you have a fever. Patent that thing!

Gauges are inaccurate... however, you get what you pay for. It will be interesting to see your comparison with this homemade jobber with a higher quality setup.
As long as looks aren't the main priority, I suppose it's fine and most likely works just as well as the store bought version. Budget saver for sure.
