  • Have you heard about the Feuling Parts: Vented Oil Dip Stick? We hadn't heard about this mod until today & so glad that Brian shared a little bit about this new product! When we say new... this is a new product to US! We have heard that several riders had this dipstick installed last year & it isn't particularly NEW but we are just hearing about this Vented Oil Dip Stick.
    We are heading to the 80th Sturgis tomorrow & will definitely be looking for Feuling Parts booth to check out their Vented Oil Dip Stick for the M8 Harley Davidson Touring motorcycles!! We reached out to Feuling Parts & they were only in Sturgis for a few days & we weren't able to meet up but definitely look for a future collaboration!!
    We want to know... do it work? The price tag is a bit steep so... is it worth it? How much of a difference can be felt? Wonder what the dyno numbers would show??

    By all means pay almost $300 to try to remedy the problem with H-D’s lax tolerance issues. We already pay a premium for these bikes, quality should be built in.

      EPA regulations create these problems. The vent is suppose to go into the intake according to the EPA. Harley is attempting to avoid another huge penalty. It’s a tight rope most would not want to walk.

      duane howard no, it’s not. Which is why they have made the changes they have. We, as owners, riders, builders, can then do what we need to. This vented dipstick is a high-quality fix. There are cheaper vented caps that work great but are clearly made from cheaper materials and don’t have the dip-stick.
      Trask and Horsepower Ink make excellent external breather bolts that work with their Air Cleaners.
      There never is a downside to relieving Crankcase pressure.

      NOA Performance & Design why do the other brands have this issue figured out? Once again , I gues you pay for the Harley lifestyle of “ buy out bike, and make it functional at owners expence”🤷‍♂️

      @@trucker-d4161 I don't know that other brands have this figured out. Hell even in HD Trucks, there are devices that alter the air sensors and the truck runs more efficiently. Since I am an admitted Harley Brand Whore, I don't really have a direct knowledge of other brands and the issues or non-issues.
      The pressure built by a Square Bore 45 degree V-Twin is unique, would be my best guess. More Harley Buyers Mod there bikes from Stock? What other bikes make the leap in Mods? From Aircleaner to Exhaust, and a high percentage of Cams. Harley's slap down by the EPA, pushing them to vent from the heads into the throttle body. Oil cooled vs Liquid Cooled, meaning a higher Oil Volume may be necessary.
      A stock Harley M8, Oil level at the correct level doesn't have this issue. Once we make a change, like better airflow, removing the Cat, it alters the pressure within the Crankcase.
      Again, even stock, relieving pressure helps the engine run better. That is not specific to HD. But, it isn't a necessity on a properly maintained stock bike.

    I have a 2017 M8 FLHTK, I took off my Gearbox Top-Cover, drilled a hole in the right upper corner pointing forward next to the rear exhaust, cut a thread with a 1/8 NPT tap, bought a 90 degree brass fitting at ACE (3$) and screwed it in with a bit of Teflon tape. Then mounted a rubber hose (1$) and routed it up under the seat and then finally gave it a black rubber-coated crank case filter (6$)to breath through. For 10bucks I had made my own Breather and it has been working EXCELLENT with no issues at all for more than 35.000 miles now.

      How difference are you talking about? Can you be more specific please?

    • @TheNuckinFutts
      @TheNuckinFutts 3 роки тому +1

      @@paulson9616 the biggest difference is Blow By through the Breather. This is all due to EPA Bullshit, that Harley has to vent these monster cylinders back through the intake. Once you raise the amount of air pumping, it causes too much oil into the vent system and there is valve train noise from the pressure. You can reduce oil volume and that helps but, oil is the coolant.
      This vent completely relieves Blow By as a main factor. Secondary factors are; the valve train is quieter, you don’t have to lower oil volume and there is almost no oil going into the throttle body.
      Installing exterior Breather Bolts fixes that completely. We use Horsepower Inc Breathers and they have a great solution.

      @@TheNuckinFutts k. Thanks for the info. I currently rock with 20 m8 softail low rider s and on stage 2 set up with HD. I do not have an oil bypass( blow- by) issue so do you recommend to install vented dipstick? Second, i have installed Arlen ness inverted air cleaner kit when s2 is done so you are saying also recommended to do air cleaner breather kit as well?

    • @TheNuckinFutts
      @TheNuckinFutts 3 роки тому +2

      @@paulson9616 on Stage 2, you should be fine with a Crankcase Vent. The dipstick is a great option, simply because the install is easy and Feuling has some features, like Butterfly Valve and pre-filter to keep oil from running out of the breather.
      If you’re not getting oil Blow By on the filter, check your throttle body. I am not familiar with your Breather (I know the Breather but haven’t used it). If you don’t see excess oil, check your oil level, make sure you’re not running ½ qt or so low. Dealers have learned that trick to keep from having future issues.
      Venting the Breather isn’t critical at Stage 2, unless you are crazy, like we are and don’t want any oil running through the combustion chambers. We started running these Dipsticks on every bike that vents the crank into the Oil Tank. The bikes seem to just run smoother.

The A1 model is just a vent with a hose and filter at the end. Nevertheless, its no brainer and both work very well. I constantly check the blowby at the throttle body and see no excessive oil but just a little mist. HD can not put it stock b'coz of EPA. This setup MIGHT also be helpful to avoid oil sumping.

      Actually the Consumer protection act states to void your warranty the manufacturer has to prove that a mod or part you installed on your bike CAUSED the problem. Hashed this all out when i asked my HD service manager if putting non hd stage one on my fatbob would void the warranty. At first he was yes it would (specifically the V&H fuel pack tune) when they hooked it up to thier computer and is reported to HD. When pressed he admitted what i said before. My bikes are all performance modified to some degree and I know I have to vent the crank case better. This product makes it really easy, it is built with excellent quality. The bike runs great no problems at all with 25,000 miles now, I service it myself exactly to the HD service manual. Would using the vented dipstick cause a problem with using this oil? I'm not changing oil types or brands, too many miles to be doing that. I can't think of a reason other than putting synthetic oil into a fresh motor could cause the rings to not seat properly. HD Dynarider45 appreciate you subscribing. I run synthetics without any problem, at all. I am calling Feuling later today on an unrelated matter. It could be that because their oil pump and cam plate push so much more oil volume through the system, the expense of synthetic isn’t necessary. I am also curious if synthetic has the same thermal conduction properties as high grade oils. I know synthetics are more resilient to high heat. But, do they cool better, being that these engines are oil cooled? Testing my bikes from engine temperature to oil temperature, I find a 60 to 80 degree difference from Engine Temp to Oil Temp, using S&S oil pump and cam plate. I have it on good authority, Feuling is even better.
