Why do you drink?
To get drunk!!
Why do you roll smoke?
To get high!
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
To get laid!!
Haha thats what we always yelled out at the bar when this song came on..lol
You beat me to it, that is what we said when I went to one of his concerts, only it was to get stoned not high lol.
Except about half the crowd in the honkytonk will be saying “to get fucked” once their drunk enough. lol.
And in concert
And this is how my high school administration realized they had fucked up, playing this song at a pep rally.
Still do in the bars lol
I'm an old hillbilly. I am so happy to see you listening to this music and ENJOYING IT. Just goes to show we all have more in common than what divides us. It's time to tell the politicians that are trying to tear us apart to jump in a lake, and realize we are all THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
After you get to some Hank Sr. you gotta check out Hank Williams III, the grandson. He has some amazing songs as well.
Amen.
love it sir
Amen
I'm a Canadian and people where I'm from LOVE hank. People rep the confederate flag and everything. Country is even more than country wide. It's worldwide.
This song was written because his mother disowned him. She wanted to benefit from his talent & wanted him to sing only his fathers songs. Hank Jr rebelled, like a true Southerner, & went his own direction with his music! Check out his song "Hog Wild" & "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight". You'll love them.
Senior wrote a song about Junior's Mom. ua-cam.com/video/Wn2e4Dhod7M/v-deo.html
She didn't disown him, jr decide he wanted be himself and separated from her at 18
right@@chadjustice8560
And his son, Hank III, rebelled as well, against how his mom wanted him to live. So even that is a family tradition.
One song his dad ( Hank Williams Sr) sung was "Your Cheating Heart". On Hank Williams Jr, I would love to hear the song, " All my Rowdy, Friends, have settled down"
Oh and a Hank Williams Jr Fast fact: That man literally fell off a mountain once and broke almost every bone in his body. Gives you an idea of just how tough those old country folks are.
He wrote a great song about it too, “OD’d in Denver”
That’s why he wears the glasses and facial hair
@joebauers8031 great song, overdid it in Denver and just can't remember her name
@joebauers8031 absolutely great song!!!
All In Alabama is another great song about his accident.
He fell off a mountain in 1973. That is the reference in this song. His face was crushed and required extensive reconstruction. He wears the beard and glasses to cover the scares from the accident. Johnny Cash and June Carter flew to his hospital and was there for him in his hour of need. Hank Jr has really connected to you. JMO - Enjoy the Journey - Cheers
Fell off of Ajax in 1975. He had a failed suicide attempt in 1973 that is referenced in this song.
June was his godmother
@@garygoodman4342 - Oh wow, I didn't know that about Hank, Jr. Thanks for clearing that up.
He should check out the song "All in Alabama" which is about that incident.
@@Gutslingerthat is one of my favorite Hank Jr songs.
Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Jr they and more were the outlaws of country music. Shaped my country roots back in the day love them all dearly
And now you can add Eric Church and a few others.
No Johnny paycheck? who actually had a huge criminal record! had more charges than most gangster rappers😂 check out some of the music you did on his early recording label little darling pure hardcore honky tonk outlaw country but without the Lynyrd Skynyrd and Molly hatchet southern rock intrusion
Thomphall Glaser and Jessie Colter have to mentioned when bringing up outlaw country.
Hank Williams sr - I'll never get out of this world alive or tear in my beer
Hank Williams Sr “I’m so lonesome I could cry”. PLEASE
Oh yea,, i know that one. It’s 🔥 too!!!
@@BlackPegasusRaps I really enjoyed this reaction. Your smile is contagious.
@@IronRaspberryI just have fun discovering new music hahah
@BlackPegasusRaps how are these comments from a month ago but this video was released 11 hrs ago??? Whats up buttercup???
@@jesseduke694 it was released for members first :)
Hank Sr. was a hard living, hard partying incredibly talented man. Look at the legacy he left and he died at age 29.
Hank Jr. was basically put on the road at the age of 9 to perform his daddy’s songs. He struggled living in his father’s shadow. He drank, he did drugs, he partied and attempted to self delete.
He fell off a mountain in the middle of nowhere and crushed his skull. His brain and one of his eyeballs were out of his head. It took 6 hours to rescue him and 5 surgeons working for over 7 hours to even start to repair the damage.
When he woke up he didn’t even know if he would ever talk again much less perform. He was in recovery and therapy for two and a half years after that.
But in his prescription pain pill “haze” he found his unique voice and wrote a lot of songs. He embraced his outlaw Country image and hasn’t looked back.
He’s a legend in his own right and I’m sure his daddy would have been very proud that his son came out of his shadow and into his own.
So if he gets drunk and sings all night long it really is a family tradition. Like father like son.
his father was a country super star in the day and quite the drinker an icon of country
he followd that most his life and it took a toll ,,,,,,outlw country is the best hank williums willy nelson Jonny cash merlhagerd waylon jennings kriss kirstiferson so on and so forth it was the end of the country greats as compaired to todays country its the same with motown and so called music of today im not shure who sang it but brother brother there to many of us what goin on whats goin on mecury in rhe fish so on so forth both white and black music was at its best in the 79s 80 z today they dont even know how to play instruments let alone carry a note
out law music and old rnb its timeless we need to bring back posetive roles for our youth this would stop alot of shootings and hate new performers get paid to corupt our youth it aint right how holly wood is coruppting the youth awfull
@@rayiskool444 That was Marvin Gaye who did that song, "What's Going On?"
Hank Sr died from a drug overdose (pain killers) in the back seat of his Cadillac on his way to play in a new years concert. Hank Jr was big into drugs and alcohol and when he was trying to clean up a little and going through a lot he fell over 500ft down a mountain and almost died.
Fun fact. After his dad died, his mother started teaching him to sing exactly like his father. Using his father's vocal inflections and mannerisms. At age 8, his mother put him up on stage in front of his father's backing band.
When he was a young artist he covered a lot of his dad’s songs. He eventually wanted to go his own way, when he fell off Ajax mountain in Montana and almost died when he woke in the hospital Johnny and June Cash were at his bedside. Once he recovered he started doing his own thing and jumped headfirst into the outlaw country genre. He has a lot of great songs. The thing about it is he has lived most of his songs. It is definitely a rabbit hole for you to dive into my personal favorites are: OD’d in Denver, All in Alabama, Bluesman, whiskey bent and hell bound and the list goes on and on. He is definitely a country gangster.
I would like to add weatherman to this list! Lol
As a teen it was all country, rock, classic rock, oldies and metal. Shipped out to the army at 18 which is a true mixing pot and it really opened my mind to everything, I am 44 now and recently retired from the army and when people come to our house asking “who’s damn playlist is this going from Iron Maiden to Marty Robbins to Tech9 and NF 😂 it’s mine bitch, whatever is relatable or gets me in the zone😂❤
The song "the ride" by David Allen Coe is about an encounter with the ghost of Hank Williams Sr. On his way to nashville.......must listen
Hank's (Bocephus) father was arguably the most famous country singer of all times.
He never got a chance to sing with his dad so he took 1 of his dads songs "theirs a tear in my beer" and sang we ith him
Great songs
Love Hank JR. Time for "All my rowdy friends are coming over tonight" a real rocker...
Hank Williams sr - I'll never get out of this world alive
"The Conversation" is another great one he does along with the great Waylon Jennings singing about Hank Sr
Loved watching you listen to this 😁 my daddy loved Hank Williams Sr. and he sang his songs to me and played his records all the time! He was from Alabama like us so that made him even more special. He died when he was young (around 30) from years of alcohol and drug abuse which led to heart failure. This is why Hank Jr. says he was carrying on the family tradition. BTW that was Charlie Daniels playing the fiddle on this song 🤗❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
CHECK HANK SR TEAR IN MY BEER!
My vote for Hank Sr is "So Lonesome I Could Cry"
And yes, he's spilling the tea in this song...lol...definitely outlaw country. The rebellious correlation between, rap, punk, outlaw country is real.
Funny story: my daughter didn't have many interactions with her Dad, as he would often "forget" (i.e. be too messed up to remember to pick her up on the weekends)…..(I'd tell her he had to work)….but when she finally was an adult and wanted to get to know him, she and I and some friends went to a Karaoke Bar and she heard this song. She was like: "They wrote a song about my Daddy!!"....because by then, many of her other family members had been... well, most went to prison at least once. All but my daughter. She was serving on the city counsel, while raising three very smart children, one with special physical needs.
His father was the country music legend of his generation. Extremely prolific. He had a drinking problem and got kicked off the Grand Ol Opry. His father died in he back seat of a car while being driven to a gig. This happened when Hank Jr. Was very young. Check out Hank Williams Sr. “ Move iIt on Over” which has been covered by hard rockers.
Yes, Hank Jr was part of the outlaw movement. You nailed the Parallel between Country and Hip Hop. It is about lifestyles and middle finger to the man music. They are both music of the working man.
Hundreds of “RAP” Reactors have discovered Country and are now huge fans of the real life, true musicianship, and positivity. And now, listen as a majority.
Hank Williams Sr.
Hank Williams Jr
And believe it ..
COUNTRY Punk Rocker
Hank Williams Iii
All of them Great
All if them Outlaw Country Superstars
And now we even have IV and the Strange Band
Family Traditions MUST go on.
Hank III is not a punk rocker his band assjack is thrash metal.
@@debiecusic942 he's covered GG Allin and has plenty of other punk influences . And assjack is far from thrash metal as a genre
@Chudchanning
Glad you handled that
I get blocked and warned enough...lol
Hank III has been in quite a few bands and different genre. So to pick out only one band and make a statement to cover what type of artist and talent he had is just uneducated.
In the sixties and seventies, Hank Williams was still the biggest country star of all time. Like the Elvis of country. Hank Jr really was in a "unique position " as the song says. Imagine the impossible pressure to live up to the best ever. He couldn't, and that's what really drove him to the vices that nearly killed him. When he finally found his own path, he found his own voice and success. And his own legend alongside his dad.
And to start out doing it at 8 years old just 🤯
@HalliCrihfield You would have thought his family would have learned from trotting hours dad around the country for money while he was a really sick alcoholic that needed help.
To me, as a 51 yr old that is has appreciated all types of music, but Country/Rock raised, Hank is my generations outlaw legend! My all- time favorite, of any genre!
That’s hilarious that you caught the call and response of the chorus. It happens every time!! Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound next!!!
“I’ve Got Rights” is as hard core as any gangsta rap song.
Hank Jr is the man!
Hank Sr
I'm So lonesome I Could Cry.
Love your facial expressions during these reactions!
The call and response to this song is: "why do you drink" (to get drunk!), "why do you roll smoke" (to get stoned!)
P.S. I've heard the only person to out smoke Snoop was another country legend, Willie Nelson!
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote "To get laid!"
“A Country Boy Can Survive” is a masterpiece.
I think his songs come off so well cause u can feel it is authentic....and catchy as hell.
Nothing like the the 50s-90s country.
Hank Williams Sr was literally the first famous person he was the first Superstar
First, I have so much respect for you for not letting your little girl be exposed to inappropriate lyrics, no matter the musical genre.
Second, I love your reaction to this song. My dad was a big fan of Hank, Sr. (I had one of his songs played at Dad's Celebration of Life service) and I am, too. When Hank, Jr. became popular with his Outlaw Country, I didn't care for it, but life and some of the struggles that came with the years have made me appreciate his music.
I do hope you will react to some Hank Williams, Sr. at some point. There is now a third and fourth generation singing.
We play this at every family get together we have, right along with Metallica, Queen, Chubby Checker & The Fat Boys and now...Ren. (Plus many more in all genres). There isn't one person, from age 80 to 5 who isn't belting it out. It's a staple in country music. He's truly Outlaw Country and a huge influence on today's Outlaw Country artists. Think I'm fixin' to go grab a six pack and crack up some Hank. Thanks BP!
Yes it is called Outlaw Country and it is some of the best country.
Hank Sr. sang "Hey Good Lookin', What Ya Got Cookin'?" Yes, Hank Jr. was Outlaw Country and he hung out with Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash and many, many others. Glad to hear younger folks getting caught up with Country music. God Bless you and your family, sir!
Love the reaction! You can't go wrong when picking a Hank Jr. song to react to. I recommend "All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight" and "All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down)".
"And corn bread and ice tea took the place of pills and 90-proof" had to be one of the greatest country lines ever written.
Loved this reaction and your comments are spot on. FYI, Hank Jr. has a beard and always wears sunglasses and a cowboy hat to hide the damage that was done to his head and face when he fell off the side of mountain in 1975. He wrote A County Boy Can Survive years after the accident, and even though that song is about the over-urbanization of society, I think it also speaks to the strength and perseverance he had to survive the accident. The man is a living legend.
My dad grew up on Hank Williams , I grew up on both Sr. and Jr.
Hank Jr. Is so frickin cool...love his music...I love your reactions to all these new types of music your listening to ... it's EPIC!!
Family Tradition Hank Williams Jr why are people so surprised country music is so good ? Country folk ain't bad people just traditional hard working people
I love when Hank and Kid Rock sang this together..❤
I saw Hank live in 2007ish with Skynyrd, and nobody knew Kid Rock was there with him that night, so when Kid Rock came out and sang it with him everybody was super surprised and went crazy! It was awesome!
Follow the revolution from Delta/Country to rock and hip hop. We all are one!
Classic country bar song. Everybody singing the chorus to Family traditions to the top of their lungs with beers in salute! All for fun and kicks.
Oh, Hank Williams, Junior was one of my favorites back in the day Bocephus
BOCEPHUS!!! 🫡
Hank Jr has a GIANT catalog of music stuffed with bangers.there's reasons why he was so popular.I'm delighted to see you digging him so much
Love Hank Sr and Jr. I've seen Hank Jr several times in concert. Always a great show
ALL of his music is fantastic. Jump in the rabbit hole and enjoy the ride
My father loved Hank Jr., this made me smile!
We all the same bro, Blues to Country to Rock to Punk to Metal to Rap !! 🤣😂🤣 ❤❤❤❤ 👍😎👍
Hank williams sr , hank williams jr , and hank williams lll . All have different styles of music , but they all rock !
With the magic of modern technology, Hank Jr and Hank Sr did a duet There’s A Tear In My Beer.
Saw a bunch of rock and metal concerts back in the day with no issues and went to see Hank and fights were breaking out everywhere it was so funny
Hank Jr is the GOAT he’s been singing over 70 years and has broken records in music that will never be touched again. Have almost died of drug overdose and falling off Ajax mountain in western Montana/Idaho border in 1973.
You're pushing it a little being that Hank Jr is only 74 years old, but not by much. FYI he fell off Ajax in 1975, not 1973. What he is referencing in this song is his failed suicide attempt.
@@garygoodman4342 yes the suicide attempt was frog overdose and yes he’s just short of 70 years of playing on stage it wasn’t meant to be an exact number just a rough estimate. So I was off by 2 years from when he had his fall. The fact is that he has been playing for longer then most and I can’t recall the exact number it’s been many years ago but he had a crazy number of chart toppers on the billboards top 100 at the same time that just can’t be matched. Yes times are different now and I’m an old man so I don’t keep up with the new music and numbers, so maybe I am wrong but he was at the top of the charts for his time and no one would have thought he could be outdone.
@agordon7369 music numbers these days are pointless. It's all digital and record companies pay to have their artists streamed 24/7, so their songs go #1 overnight. Hank Jr's 1st show was in 1957 in Swainsboro, GA, 1st album and single in 1964, in 1983 at one point he had 9 of the top 50 country charts on billboard at the same time, he had 11 number 1 singles in the 80s and has 7th most charted songs of any artist in the history of country music.
Hank Williams JR. Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings,
David Allen Coe and Willie Nelson was the shizzle when
I was growing up in the 70s!!!
Go to a country dive bar and this song comes on and you will never forget the experience. It is a good time
Hank Williams Sr. Died at 29 on the way to a concert. He was in the back seat the driver did not know he has died. I think he had written a song.
He is NOT saying he is different than his dad.
The line is "If I get stoned and sing all night long, it's a family tradition", because that is exactly what his daddy used to do.
Theres a tear in my beer!!!
Hank SR
Theres a tear in my beer is him and his dad singing together of sorts. Its a good song the video was pretty epic for the time.
Hank Williams Sr. There's a Tear in my Beer.
The thing that keeps me watching these videos, is that you appreciate good music, doesn't matter the genre as long as it's good. That's the difference between someone that listens to music and someone that loves music.
You;re speaking your mind, Glad you are,
The call and response to this song has been going on at concerts and in bars for decades
I love you listened to this one! ❤ This is my husband favorite of his and he listens to it all the time. In the morning when he’s in our shower I hear him playing this song and singing along and I just laugh!! 😂🥰 You should listen to Coward of the County by Kenny Rodgers! 🫶🏼
Yes!!! This right here☝️☝️☝️
Coward of the County would be awesome!!! Hank is great but, to expand your country rabbit hole, Kenny Roger's is a great story teller as well
+1 for coward of the county. great recommendation!
Love Kenny Rogers! Another one he would probably love is Willie Nelson
Please react to Seminole Wind - John Anderson. It will be different than anything you've heard before, but it's so beautiful and the best of what country music can be. ❤❤❤
Hank Sr. There's a tear in my beer. Jambalaya. Hey sweet baby. I'm so lonesome I could cry
I love your reaction. I love most music and I got to grow up with Hank on the radio.
This was great, and you were spot on with your take on outlaw country. If you get around to it, a deep dive into Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings are well worth your time.
LOVE some old Hank Jr
You have to listen hank Williams jr. All my rowdy friends are coming over tonight
I'm an old country girl and I love your reaction!!! I like your open mindedness. I'm about lyrics, so I listen to you and can appreciate the artistry.
ok here we goooooooo lol 😂 Saw Hank Williams Jr in concert 🎶 yrs ago. He’s a legend tooooo - Like his dad Love from Lisa the lyme warrior 💚🦠💚🦠 His dad was an even bigger rebel w drinking but yes their music was different - In concert when he says why do you drink - people call out to get drunk and and when he says why do you smoke people call out to get hi.. 😂 it’s so funny so you called it rt on response . Love you Mr Black P
I really enjoyed watching your reaction to this Country Classic! You gave me pure smiles! Thanks! Awesome! 🥰Merry Christmas to you and yours! 🤶
Hank Williams, Jr and kid rock sing family tradition
I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert in Nashville, TN once. It was awesome.
"Born to Boogie" is a hard driving Hank Jr., kind of mini-bio song about his life! You want G.O.A.T.-ish??!! That is a Magic Ticket to Rock to!! Give it a Whirl! You Will Not regret it, or get it out of your head either.
I’ve told people for years that Johnny Cash was basically a rapper. Also, Bob Dylan basically was a rapper they do overlap
Seen Hank 3 times. Outstanding performer.
Country is story telling....and yes he was an outlaw a beautiful lovely outlaw.
I hate that I can't like this more than once...lol This was a great reaction and it's great to see how much all of us have in common regardless of where we came from or where we are now. Keep it up bro!
I love the live version of this song too! A great song to get the whole bar singing!
Music is universal I love all music! ! Music makes people smile and that’s all that matters !!
The Conversation. Hank and Waylon is a classic.
Hank sr. "Your cheatin heart" "i'm so lonesome i could cry" "hey good lookin"
Great songs.
Music is so magical because it brings us all together. I don’t care if it is some classical Holst the Planets, some genius singer songwriters telling us a human experience about fast cars or sinking ships, traditional drumming, wailing bagpipes, or a fun rapper producer in Colorado spitting bars in the car with his daughter, it all is part of life. In the end we learn from the music of a people but rhythm, flow, and music relates to ALL people. Corvids can make and use tools, ants communicate, but unique among the creatures of this earth only humans make art for the sake of art. Music is a universal human form of art that reflects how we relate to the universe. It is a fundamental part of being human. As a person I find music gives me an opportunity to connect with others and learn that deep down we are not that different.
This song in a country club in the south is an experience. Everybody is singing and adding lyrics
Hank Sr. Had to many big hits back in the 40's- 50's before his death a couple of his song's are "YOU WIN AGAIN". AND "YOUR CHEATING HEART" he has a amazing catalog of song's everyone from Ray Charles, to George Jones, have recorded his song's and other's still are. Yes it's a fiddle, and steel guitar.
You need to watch a live version of this
Almost killed me in 1973...look up info on his accident, it's the reason he's had a beard since then
In the 70's there was outlaw country, they "the artists" want to do their music and the records labels wanted them to do thiers....so they became outlaws, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson Hank Williams JR...there were others also. Plus Hank Jr was pushed on stage as a kid to do his fathers music and he had to do it, then he became an adult and he tried to break free from that, and he did about the he fell off a mountain and broke his head open...he had a lot of surgeries for that. The came his Southern Rock / Blues country and it exploded with a lot of awards in the 80's.
Just saw him live on Monday evening. Amazing as it was my first time hearing the songs we’ve always sang.
You should definitely check out Johnny horton. He was a country singer back in the 50s maybe 60s too and he has a unique voice that if it played on radio, you would know who it is. He took history and put it in a song and i love it. Sink the bismark, johnny reb and battle of new orleans are some great ones plus many more. Hope you consider it bro.
He can also play pretty much every instrument on the stage too.
Randomly came across this this morning, love it! At a concert or anywhere the song plays, when he says,”hank, why do you drink?” Everyone yells to get drunk. When he says,”why do you roll smoke?” Everyone yells to get stoned.
One of my favorite Hank Jr. songs
