  • Allen Carr's Easy Way to Stop Smoking is a best-selling book that has helped scores of people to finally quit smoking -but it isn't perfect.
In this review, I recount my own experiences of using the Easy Way to Quit Smoking method, what worked, what didn't, and what I did and didn't like about the book.
I also outline my own recommendations/advice on how to use this book to help you quit smoking.

Quit drinking (30 years ago). Scared shitless. Did whatever it took to get and stay sober.
Quit weed (5 years ago). Realized I was creating my own problems. Did enough to change how I wanted to live.
Quit smoking (1 week ago). Saw how many ways I was hurting myself. Still hard to visualize my future without smoking. One day at a time.

Quit drinking, weed and smoking like 18 years ago. Stayed clean for 15 years, a non smoker, but then relapsed, just smoking, not the other stuff. But it's been the hardest thing to quit the first time around and now. I haven't smoked for around 50 hours and not missing it cuz just had a nose surgery and this is the last thing on my mind. So I'm like, why not use this opportunity to get rid of smoking 🚬 too

hopefully by now you can't even believe you ever smoked! I smoked for 8 years and I can't believe it now, 6 years cigarette free. Nasty!

I quit smoking with Alan Carr’s book for 6 years and then broke one of his cardinal rules...I was going through a tough time and thought I could have “just 1 cigarette “ Now I am rereading his book.

hey hows it going? The same thing happened to me, but I read that it doesn't really work a second time.
Is it working the second time?

Jayo Caine ...it did work a second time...Instead of reading it I ordered the audio on my Apple Books app. I finished my final cigarette last Monday so it’s almost been 2 weeks. I’m doing great! I really believe his method is the only one that works. I had smoked for almost 20 years when I found his book. I owe my life to Alan Carr!

Certainly is the golden rule. All smokers are chain smokers, regardless of amount or time between cigarettes. You've only stopped when you break that chain. Once you realise that every reason for smoking is because of nicotine addiction, it's easier to see that the mental hold has to be dealt with. Everything Allen explains about the mental part is true.

I found this to be a miracle for me. Ive stopped using willpower and start to using common sense. The only thing i would add to the book is to pick 3 words like "nicotine monster ,slave etc... And ever time I have bad moments and thinking about smoking those words takes me straight back to the book. And in seconds im no longer interested in smoking again .

I decided to attempt to stop smoking today. I've been watching your videos for support, and noticed I've only taken a few puffs over the past few hours. Normally I would have had at least 3 or 4 full cigarettes by now. I appreciate you taking time to make these vids, and your complete honesty.

Hi Chris I found your videos a few weeks ago and have watched a couple of your videos. I started Champix 8 days ago and today is my first day without cigarettes. I had flicked through Allen Carr's book back in the 90s and wasn't truly in the right headspace and nope didn't work. I have tried hypnosis many NRT products and am on Champix again for the 4th time. Today I found a copy of the Allen Carr dvd today and it has changed my mind set this time or perhaps locked in my current mind set. I turn 49 this month and have smoked for almost 40 yrs and im now truly ready to begin the next decade with a clean fresh start. Thank you for this review and all your vids. :)

I read his book and continued to smoke for years. What bothered me was his insistence that the smoker doesn’t really enjoy smoking. Yes I did, I did enjoy it but being free from it is more enjoyable. I mean no one could say to a heroin addict that they really don’t like heroin because they love the high but hate the habit. Quitting is its own reward!

Hi Chris! I quit smoking eleven days ago. However, today is the day of the crisis. Why today? I've no idea. Maybe it's this rubbish weather today, which certainly hasn't helped. I did my best not to reach for a cigarette, and tomorrow, I will feel mentally stronger and proud of myself for beating the craving. I had a glass of squash, three scoops of rum and raisins ice cream, and the niquitine spray. If it wasn't for the rain, I would have gone for a walk, too. I tried thinking of anything to do or occupy my mind but think of cigarettes. I watched a couple of your videos because that seems to help a lot these days. Thanks again.

Read this book twice and gave up for a month each time. Started reading it again recently, decided to just stop with a quick refresher, a lot of the info I read from the book originally has been mentally retained. Gave up taking Champix due to the side effects. I have heard that repeated attempts to quit eventually get you quitting, maybe you learn from your own mistakes, I’ve started to visualize smoking a cigarette if I’m having a craving and then imagine how gross it will taste despite the craving and how unsatisfied and disappointed I will be if I actually smoked that cigarette not to mention how it won’t actually work and only create lethargy rather than relaxation. Just throwing more tips out there from someone in the process of managing it. Maybe I’m doing it wrong but it seems to be helping right now.

My mom quit smoking with the help of the gum, but she couldn't stop the gum. We weren't so worried about that, though, because just nicotine wasn't nearly as bad as the crap that comes along with smoking. She was a non-smoker for seven years when she was diagnosed with lung cancer. How are you doing now?

  • @lindakelley2676

Anyone who implies there is an “easy way” is lying, in my opinion. If you are in a headspace where you are ready, and confident you’ll quit, it’s smoother, but It’s an intense psychological addiction, and I’d like to hear from people who think it was easy to quit. Wouldn’t everyone quit if it was “easy”?

For anyone who read "Easyway" and then failed after successfully quitting for a period of time, instead of re-reading it, I recommend reading "The Only Way To Stop Smoking Permanently" also by Allen Carr. In this one he explains his method even more by going over "Easyway" points (explaining them in greater detail and expanding upon them). This time you will completely understand his method. And I assure you, you will remain a happy non-smoker FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. After reading "Easyway" you might still have some doubts and unclear points, but after reading "The Only Way" you will be absolutely certain that you will NEVER need to somke another cigarette.

Go and ask the doctor for a photo image of those lovely black lungs if you smoked years. I'm was 43 year at the time and ended up with a feeding tube because I couldn't swallow food and liquids . I had narrowing of the oesophagus, my next visit to the hospital if I didn't quit was lung cancer I was told .
The hospital said I had the lungs of a 90 year old man . I bought this book in 2018 and read it twice and yes, I had my illness to help to me kick the habit but I still struggled to the book helped me along the way . Slave to nicotine no more . 6 years today 12/06/2024
Good luck to all with probably what is the hardest drug on this planet to quit .
