- Legendary vocalist Roger Daltrey and guitarist Pete Townshend of The Who discussed the UCLA Daltrey/Townshend Teen & Young Adult Cancer Program, which serves teenagers and young adults with cancer at a luncheon event on November 12, 2012.

I'm so glad Roger cares so much and understands my generation. I'm a 19 year old boy and I know allot of my generation is in a sense quite despised by allot of the older generations because of how some of my generation acts. But, I am glad that Roger understands us, it makes me smile. Thank you so much Roger.
LOTS of us boomers totally remember our teen years with great detail and joy, thanks to rock and rollers like Roger and Pete! Teens weren't even a thing in our parents' day. They were children, then adults, nothing in between. I wonder how you're doing nowdays, as a 24-year-old? Have a great day, a great life!

Especially the way he used it in The Who. He whould sing during small section of quite a few Who tunes (eg.Baba O'Riley, Bargain, and all ove Tommy and Quadropheina). It created a pleasant musical dichotomy to Daltery's powerhouse snarling style with bellowing screams.
Pete is ALWAYS interesting, as one might expect from a prolific genius.
Really proud of the way Roger talks here. Bravo.

Roger is quite a motivational speaker.
Roger Daltry is an excellent spokesman for bringing awareness to the public of the need for support in fighting the terrible affliction of cancer on teenagers. Good job, Roger. The world is a better place for Daltry, Townshend, and all others involved in bringing about this project and the good work it does for these youngsters. Life is not fair. It's really nice having people in your corner fighting along with you.
This is greater than any album or any gig they ever done.

Roger Daltry and Pete Townshend are 2 truly classy guys. Their love and caring seems so authentic that it brought tears to my eyes. Their humor and compassion negates the weight of 10x plus of any negative action that may be done for change.
Thanks to Roger and Pete, this proves that Rock stars care for others. Saw them on stage in London back in 1966!! Hope to see them again soon. Best to The Who. Magnus.

Christ how do I miss these remarkable works and incredible endeavors by two of the most important, neverending relevant, enormously talented men??? Roger Daltrey and the great Pete Townshend!!!! Lird they did this luncheon eight years ago and I should of been interested in this then!!! I'm going to look into and see what kind of work they are doing in my very very big American city??

Notice Roger says to the question (26:07) about how does cancer prevention/ treatment differ in the UK from here in the US? Notice Rogers very careful but candid answer.."your actual MEDICAL system is better, we have a NATIONAL system. He does correlate the money is easier to get but that takes a lot of years 20 or so he says. And this people is what nationalized medical care does. It stymies growth through government mandated monopolies and hinder's R&D tremendously because of the lack of market competition. Free market systems ultimately drive costs down, The choice of a better product vs the choice of a worse product. It's really Milton Friedman 101 basic market physics. This is the reason why people have to read more and stop playing around on the web they don't know how to express themselves also they don't know how to absorb information into their brain and make critical decisions and do critical thinking. There used to be something called the fairness Doctrine it was eliminated by Ronald Reagan so that you could have entities like Fox News come along and pollute people's brains. That's what happened in the United States in the early 80s go and look it up the fairness Doctrine before that television stations were unable to editorialize during the news. If they did editorialize they had to say so and give equal time to the other side of what was being discussed.

Some people are commenting on how Pete hugged and then insulted Roger. It's funny because when Pete went to hug Roger it looked like he kind of hesitated until Pete pulled him in and gave him a hug. And in different interviews I sometimes hear Pete talking about how he didn't like being in the band and that they were all a bunch of hobos or something like that. It's interesting.
Oh. That makes sense, so maybe Pete doesn't like them that much because they were mean to him.

+Ashlynn Benbrook It's a job. I don't like everyone I work with and I'm sure you don't either. I get the impression that Roger and Pete like each other much on a personal level but they were always able to set their differences aside enough for the survival of the band. I think that's pretty admirable considering how many great bands have broken up amid petty squabbles and hurt feelings. Pete likes to have the occasional verbal dig at Roger, but Roger used to be a very violent intimidating man who ran the band with brute physical force. Pete had to take a lot of punches from him, so I imagine this is his small, passive-aggressive way of getting some of his own back.

+skyflowers I'm so sick of people bashing Pete with absolutely no reason to do so. He's given more to charity than you ever will, hosted benefits, set up anti-drug and music programs. He's not always the most cheery guy but can you blame him? He's the real genius of The Who. He wrote the songs, labored over the compositions and production of the albums, and basically assured the legacy of the band. That burden alone is enough to bring anyone down, especially when you find yourself continuously having to make compromises in an industry that consistently devalues you and treats your talent like a commodity. Who are you to say that he never grew up and that he doesn't give back? Out of all the greedy scumbags in the music industry, you single him out? Step out of the ivory tower for ten seconds and face up to the real world.
