    How incredible that Roger genuinely believes that Pete has the potential to write the best work of his life just ahead of him. I agree. Pete is one of our greatest musical geniuses. I hope inspiration comes to him and blesses us with more of his music.

    Roger Daltrey is THE greatest voice in Rock n Roll history. PERIOD. He still sounds great. On a side note. This is one of the best interviews I've seen with him. Not just because you're getting insight from Roger but also the guy that's interviewing him. I don't know if anyone really notices but the guy doing the interview lets Roger speak. It's about Roger, The WHO and whatever he's talking about. Not the interviewee. I've worked in television for quite some time and you always see reporters or on air talent make the interview more about them and not the guest. They constantly walk all over their guests when their speaking only to get the next question out. This is a conversation and we're listening in to Roger. Not the guy doing the interview. Very good. Less is more and he knows how to do an interview. More DJ's, reporters and talk show hosts should take a lesson from this guy. Well done interview. I'll definitely look for more of his interviews.

    'Won't get fooled again' features the
    -most famous wail in British rock'n'roll
    -that features a tall geezer with a big-
    -nose on lead guitar 🎸 a bassist who
    -simply just stood there & strummed
    -away and a manic drummer who was
    -known to put explosives in his kit.Then
    -this blonde,blue-eyed singer screamed
    -'meet the new boss,same as the old bos
    -s'then a crashing,thunderous sound that
    -reminds you that the who are simply one
    -of the greatest bands in rock music.
    LONG LIVE ROCK,LONG LIVE THE WHO !

  • @bluesfan582
    @bluesfan582 7 років тому +5

    What a balanced and fair-minded man Roger is. Integrity, honesty and generosity throughout. Always speaking respectfully and praisingly of the other Who members and their efforts. Contrast this with Pete Townshend interviews - always bitching and complaining about Keith or Roger. He may be brilliant, but Pete's lucky to have their loyalty when he doesn't return it.

    • @Jangle2007
      @Jangle2007 7 років тому +3

      I don't disagree about your thoughts pertaining to Roger, but I think you've inaccurately characterized Pete. Pete is a towering genius, and his view of the world, his art, his craft, and his work, will necessarily be more critical. I've heard many many interviews in which Pete praises, supports, and expresses great affection for Roger. I think it's great to see how close and affectionate is the way that Roger and Pete now relate to each other.

    • @bluesfan582
      @bluesfan582 7 років тому

      But with that genius comes arrogance. He gave many interviews stating that he thought Keith wasn't a very good drummer and all that was needed was a drummer like Kenney Jones. But that didn't work out when it happened. I have also heard him make very disrespectful remarks about Roger. You clearly idolise Pete, but get the blinkers off your eyes, genius he may be but intolerant and condescending he also is.

    • @Jangle2007
      @Jangle2007 7 років тому +2

      Not remotely do I idolize Pete, nor am I blinkered. It's true that I do think very highly of him.
      In fact, I don't disagree with your words describing Townshend: intolerant, arrogant, and condescending. And yes I've heard Pete disparage Moon as a drummer. But in response, I state that during their heydays 60s-70s the group dynamics ran on friction and anger in a way that functionally served the groups musical output and performance. Although anger lubricated the group member's interactions and relations, it also proved to be a spectacularly productive interdependency.
      Entwistle and Moon were somewhat removed from the dynamics as they waded through their own issues. Townshend repeatedly heaps praise upon Entwistle for his support and collaboration. But from the many many Daltry interviews I've watched, it's clear that he and Townshend - by necessity - needed to work in a close, collaborative, and interdependent relationship to produce the music the Who did: close and collaborative because Townshend knew he needed Daltry's voice to animate the music and because Daltry clearly knew that Townshend was turning out spectacular work.
      Also, (and I'm somewhat speculating here), despite his grousing, Pete knew that there was no way Kenny Jones (excellent drummer though he is) could have replaced Moon and still end up with Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia, or any other works released during this time. I believe that the basis for Pete's principal gripe about Moon is that Moon was essentially using the drums as a lead instrument (somewhat similar to the way Entwistle used the bass to produce leading riffs in place of a lead guitar), thereby relegating Pete (in his own opinion) into a place where he had to keep rhythm on the guitar. In any other situation I'd wager that Townshend would have been an excellent lead guitarist, but in the Who, he felt that musically, he had to play rhythm in light of how Moon and Entwistle were using their instruments.
      I haven't heard an interview where Pete would admit disgruntledness at having been thwarted as a lead guitarist (and I would surely like to hear his response to this theory), but I would argue that regardless of background animosities between group members, this group dynamic was spectacularly effective at energizing the music we now know.
      And here's the kicker: remove Townshend from the group, and what do you have left?

    • @galericulus9736
      @galericulus9736 7 років тому +4

      +Jangle2007 Thank you for your well-structured, moderated reply. It's good to see good manners, intelligence and breeding in a place I so seldom expect to find it. You're right in just about everything you say, too, except I would probably go one stage further and ask where the group would have been without any one of them. Noel Gallagher summed up the dynamics of the Who very succinctly when he said that it was composed of four people who all played lead. You've already mentioned three of them: John playing lead Bass; Keith playing lead drums and Roger singing lead vocals. Noel Gallagher reckoned Pete played lead guitar as well as rhythm guitar, meaning he also was playing lead. It was an exceptional line-up of musicians, with as you say a good helping of internecine strife and group dynamics to help it along. Best wishes to you

    I like how Roger gives the credit to the other members of the band where due .
    A lot of front men try to steel the light for themselves . Especially since Roger was a fantastic front man ,He had it all, the look , voice , style and really was the face of a generation . People had character in those days and to stand out the way he did over all those characters was really something.
    I always remember thinking he was just so cool . Something I can't say about anybody these days. The whole band made the It great but I don't think it would have been such a success without Roger . On top of all that he is a nice guy and humble about his role not just in the band but as the most important front man of the most important era of music in history.
    Sadly for young people today he is under rated and I don't think they realize just how huge his impact was on the world .

    Great interview except I'm constantly turning down the volume when the host speaks... he's at least three times louder than Roger

      McDonald's inc. have more restaurants and sell more burgers than anyone else. I am explaining why your argument of Zeppelin having more concert and album sales makes them "Better" than the Who.

      Betty Pendegrast In today's world, Zep, would be awful, cos, they don't have Bonham, The Who proved, they could evolve, even after Keith passed..... Back in late 60s early 70's...... Led Zepp couldn't even come close to The Who...... Yeah, they sold more records, but again, in music form..... The Who were breaking through the space time continuum....... They still are now, despite Pete and Roger pushing 70.....

    today in recent I have read an article of doltrey stating that rock is dead and rap and pop is all that matters now, to all the people oh still love rock in 2017 keep fucking rocking, to roger doltrey, rock may be dead but legands never die, just like the who and all the rest of the greatest 70's rock bands. and for the people who enjot your rap crap listen to some rock and try to realize what real music is......

    Now, Children! Stop squabbling. Music is not Sport! Sport is for the masses, competition and all that bollocks. Music is ART. To be appreciated for what it is. Not judged one against the other. On a personal level Roger, Robert, Steve Marriott, Gillan etc etc were the Giants but there was the delivery of Dylan, the lyricism of Donovan, the nasal cynicism of Lennon. Where is the standard? It is a moveable feast! Love

    i wish they could all write abput today's times vs. earlier in 60's, but now using their experiences from when they were young as opposed to what young people go through now. It's as if you are to work for something now there is no meaning attached to it. Nor is there really any means to do it do it in the first place. Before there was a point to some of the madness. Now its its sheer madness, and no resolve. Lots of angry, jealous, competitive, religious but not spiritual, walking around hald dead hot town summer in the city types, and the machine is producing bottomfeeders. We are evolving into a new age with lots of expanding technology and the one half maybe less can keep off the other half are either clueless or want to know but are desperately broke. Either way it will be interesting to see what develops. I'm not pessimistic, but if its anything like the last twenty-five year's I'm not sure I want to be inhabiting the earth at that point.
