Since this was originally a "Luigi themed stage", I'm guessing it was suppose to fit the gambling motif Luigi has in New Super Mario Bros/Super Mario 64 DS in those game's Mini-game areas. Card Dealing Luigi haunts us all.
As a MKDS modder and prototype explorer back in the older days this course along with the proto Yoshi statue in Delfino Square really fueled creation. Thank you swanky for telling everyone the memories us people experienced long ago!
The “shortcut” at 10:45 is likely the Ball Return when you lose your ball much like a real pinball machine. Was probably removed due to it being frustrating as you’d easily be losing time/the race because of it. Sometimes being too real isn’t fun.
Waluigi is what makes the course special, if there was no waluigi then it would just be a fun pinball track with funky music instead of a fun pinball track with funky music including Waluigi

there are no invisible walls in the prototype version, so if you go the the right after you turn left from when you get to the top, you can go off the road and go to the place where the roundabout would be in the final version, which still counts your lap, it's simple and saves time.
What's interesting to me is that Waluigi Pinball's beta has "Wariokart" signs where the jump is in the final. I'm surprised no one else has made a remark about that yet.

I had the chance to play beta versions of this track, and of my personal favorite, Dokkan Course, many many times. Otherwise, we'd just have the earliest version, and the final version Waluigi Pinball, plus an early version of DK Pass And yes, we do have prototypes of MKDS. Months before the release of the final game Nintendo released two demos that pre-date the final release by months. You can easily download them too. Not to mention that the US version of the Demo is one of the most common and easy to find video game prototypes out there. They printed multiple copies of it to send out to stores. I loved daisy’s cruise ship as a kid so much for some reason idk why maybe the water and just a big boat I found it very cool plus all the good memories playing double dash with my dad and cousins and DK mountain is amazing also now we just need it in 8
9:11 the orignal bumper designs look interesting they look more like actual bumpers and the colors are red and blue honestly they kinda look like a sonic spring

So the beta version of Waluigi Pinball was supposed to have a chunk of a city? And in the final they replaced it with colorful dots mimicking city lights. Which again in tour where the color dot lights were changed into actual buildings referencing the beta track.
Waluigi wasn't only associated with Dirt, like Wario in Mario Kart : Double Dash!!, but obviously Mechanised Piranha Plant, like we can see in the Waluigi Stadium, a Reference to Mario Party 3 where he is associated to Piranha Plant as well. There's also Fire Balls like we can see in the Bowser Castles, but I guess you just miss that point as well...
I doubt that one part was ever meant to be drove up, the walls make it look more like a concept FOR the flying tunnel, but they just wanted to have something there before they could actually program that which makes perfect sense. Everything else is great though!

My favorite pinball race track definitely goes to the Cartoon Network Racing track It's very easy to see why I prefer that to this pinball course and its' beta builds
