(Gives Waluigi a punch in the gut.)
The MK8 version of Ribbon Road, that is. (I imagine the Koppaites are gathering fruit downstairs as you race) The original Super Circuit version couldn't have that level of detail.
Funny thing is that in-universe Waluigi Pinball is actually a giant pinball machine. In Mario Kart 7 you can see Mushroom City buildings in the background of the course’s minimap.
Oh trust me, I exist. And there is no track in this genre I despise more. And I hated it before knowing it was popular, astounded when I learned it was
Always found it kinda strange that Waluigi has his own track in the game, yet he is an unlockable character when Daisy, Dry Bones and ROB don't have any themed courses the game. Mario Kart 7 took it a step further by having a Waluigi themed track without having Waluigi in the game at all. Also never noticed this until now, but the area with the flippers look like Waluigi's mustache on the mini map (1:24) with the way they point upwards too.
@@javialonso2844 They mean in MKDS itself.. Its the same argument as Dry Bones in MK8 because of Bone Dry Dunes or whatever the name is.. They are talking about MKDS itself
One thing I would have added are the sound effects for this course, like the boost pads and items having sounds more relevant to a pinball table or how when you exit the pinball table it plays a sound like you lost a ball. Honestly the presentation for this stage is huge and I would love to see it come back in MK 8 since 7 forced you to do time trials or a full 50/100/150cc to play it.
There is actually a sound cue incorporated to leaving the area! And other sound effects like the ones you talked about were added as well in the most recently port of the course to Tour. Hopefully it all remains when it inevitably comes to 8 Deluxe!
It really sucks how the only way to play certain tracks of your choosing against cpus is to get ctgp. Although getting near triple the tracks and a mission mode is certainly worth it.
I've noticed that some of the most beloved Mario Kart courses are the ones that make the player truly feel like they're part of the environment. This one makes you feel like a pinball, Coconut Mall makes you feel like you're traversing an actual mall, Sunshine Airport does the same with an airport setting, etc. Not to discount the more traditional-feeling tracks, of course, but going that extra mile does wonders in creating an all-time classic. I don't know if you've seen the Mario Kart Tour version of this track yet, but if not, holy crap, it's beyond gorgeous and vibrant. And it has even more Waluigi ego added to it, lol. If that's the version they end up going with for Mario Kart 8, there will be much rejoicing to be had.
I think it will be just in mario kart tours version with a few tweaks like scaling the track seens all the courses in the mk8 deluxe dlc are directly ports of some retro tracks from tour with a few tweaks here and there
@@brunolike8631 But it hasn't properly shown up yet. So until then, Shroom Ridge will remain the only track in the booster course pack that isn't in tour
For the "working against you" aspect, it's worth noting that in that area, the goal is to drive into the...I don't know the name, but it's the hole where you lose the ball if it goes in there. Given that this is a pinball machine, you're the pinball, and not having the pinball go in that hole is the objective of a pinball machine, it makes sense that the things in that area would try to block you.
Wario‘s Gildmine is also a pretty good character exploration, as it encapsulates his greed, his willingness to exploit others and also the thrill of adventure with its rollercoaster-like structure.
It also adds up that a pinball machine would keep you away from the exit as well, as you are one of the balls and the purpose of the "player" and obstacles is to keep the ball away from the hole as long as possible in order to rack up as many points as possible
everything about this course is wonderful, but a detail i always especially loved was when you pass by the flippers and go into the gutter to finish a lap, the course plays a lil noise and you hear a score being counted up like when you lose a ball in an actual pinball machine
Waluigi Pinball is one of the colourful, funkiest tracks I've ever played. Being able to play a "HD" version in Mario Kart Tour brings me back to childhood when i played the game on DS
In primary school, my then best friend (and later on, neighbor, funnily enough) told me that if you timed your driving perfectly so that you drove under the slot machine right as the three in a row happened, you wouldn't hear the "failure" sound effect you always hear when you go past that part, but you would instead hear a happy and energetic "ding ding ding"-like noise and receive some sort of item or something. I vividly remember testing it out for myself.
What also is an awesome detail is that every time you got through the "exit" towards the finish line, another pinball will appear to make your trip down even more difficult, so in other words you're basically hacking the machine. And what's even crazier is that somehow Waluigi can still stop every pinball without letting it go through that "exit" hole. That's why I absolutely love Waluigi Pinball!
Tour very much counts since that provides courses that can be easily ported to MK8DX. All of the courses added in the first wave are all from or remastered in tour, with the exception of Shroom Ridge (and Coconut Mall since it was added to tour after the first wave released, although the two are pretty much the same). Doesn't necessarily mean it's coming, but there's a high chance. Fingers crossed 🤞
Here’s to hoping that they make another remix of the Waluigi Pinball theme for the Booster Course Pass, because the song is already in 8 Deluxe for Wario Stadium and I remember the devs said they made that version of the song to sound more fitting with Wario Stadium. If they just reuse the same song I’ll be very disappointed cause it just won’t have the same vibe as the original.

Honestly in my opinion, I like Waluigi Pinball because it repersents Waluigi well, and also looks super good. The problem is that the pinball section is way too short and the rest of the track is just barebones, your just driving on a boring path with occasionally some big pinballs getting in the way. I feel like if the Pinball section WAS the whole course, the whole course would've been better but besides that, it's a 7.5/10 for me. The course overall weighs it down a lot.
I also love how the entire camera-perspective tilts in those curves, where the further you go to the left or right, the whole perspective follows as seen at 2:00
