  • Another party, another destruction of Baldur's Gate 3 most difficult mode: Honour Mode. The synergies get crazy with this one as I made sure to craft 4 OP builds - in advance - with a mission. The mission was to create such synergy between the builds that it will make you say: 'oh my gawd how is this possiwwlbel????". But on a serious note, yes this is the good stuff for if you need an OP party for Honour Mode. Also no gear overlap this time, we gucci.

    After getting my honor mode run obliterated by a crash 2 days ago, I was so demoralized I nearly quit. Stumbling upon this channel resparked the hopes that I can actually get those sweet golden dice. I like that you explain how each party member synergizes with the others, which might not be covered in other build guides. It's amazing that these build were specifically made to synergize so well together with no overlapping gear, but I have two questions: who gets the elixir of everlasting vigor and who gets Auntie Ethel's hair?

    • @NizarGG
      @NizarGG  7 місяців тому +29

      I'd say moon druid gets the elixir, since it actually transfers over to wildshaping form. Auntie ethel's hair can be anyone with a relevant odd ability, doesn't matter too much. The only one that starts out with an odd number that doesn't quickly get to an even number is gale/mr.immortal/ice wizard (intelligence).

    Tavern Brawler does NOT work with Wild Shape on honour mode! It only gives you a very high chance to hit your enemy with very underwhelming damage

    • @colbyreinke9880
      @colbyreinke9880 22 дні тому

      Wouldn't tavern brawler use the owlbear forms 'strength' stat for its extra attack chance? Even if it's not giving him 'more damage' that's still a plus 5 to hit since it has 20 str. You're not technically losing out on damage because there aren't any items that are going to increase the damage in the first place. The legendary chest piece and helm only give extra wild shape and temporary HP, so having that greater hit chance when you can attack 3 times is I'm pretty sure still a good deal. And even if it does use your base 'str' out of wild shape you can easily make that up with the club of hill giants str to give you a plus 4 to hit since it auto puts your str at 19.
      EDIT--I just tested. It uses your 'wild shape's str. Literally no reason not to use tavern brawler.

    Doing a duo Honour Mode run with my friend and he's doing Ice Wiz while I'm doing the Moon Druid. Other than early game being a little rough (especially for his ice Wiz) once we got some levels into us we've been annihilating the game no problem. We had already done Honour mode once before so we wanted to do a Dark Urge playthrough while raising the stakes so it's just the two of us and we are murdering EVERYONE we can. I'm finding the Moon Druid to be useless in this comp. His CC in normal fights is mostly unneeded, and in boss fights wildshape does minimal damage due to TB not working. Surely an open hand monk or even a second throw barb would be far superior. All boss fights seem to be about killing the boss before legendaries kill you. Druid does nothing to make that happen.

    • @mazze1091
      @mazze1091 5 місяців тому +2

      Given the piercing vulnerability, even a plain old Ranged Fighter / a ranger or a Ranged Swords Bard would work wonders for turn 1 kills. I think the comp has enough frontliners.
      Loving the potential synergy, a lot of effort went into the presentation, etc. But in practice I found the druid to be pretty lackluster

    • @kinderdm
      @kinderdm 2 місяці тому +1

      A second throw barb (or fighter) would be a great addition to this party, but then you got the problem that was trying to be avoided of overlapping gear needs. I'm honestly thinking I might run just a ranged piercer of some sort for single target damage, or instead just go for a classic cleric, as this party should already be plenty strong already.

    Kinda going a different approach with my honor mode party.
    1. Light domain cleric 9, gloomstalker ranger 3 built for mass applying radiant orb so enemies can’t hit you with attacks
    2. Draconic sorcerer 1, storm cleric 1, and abjuration wizard 10 designed for tanking with absurd damage reduction and also built for dealing modest damage with magic missile (great for breaking opponents concentration)
    3. 8 tiger barbarian, 4 thief rogue a build that’s focused on locking down prone enemies with maim and inflicting bleeds on enemies
    4. My main character, 2 life domain cleric and 10 lore bard for a healer / control caster setup.
    All of this stuff is feasible as early as level 4 and each character has a sizable AC (18-20) in act 1 alone, that’s not to mention that there are several items important to these builds in act 1 which helps make these builds work sort of “out of the box” as it were.

    • @brandonlaurin1561
      @brandonlaurin1561 7 місяців тому +2

      I'd love to hear more about you build ideas and your party comp if you don't mind. The 3 in gloomstalker seems weird, I'm guessing for the movement speed? Maybe the extra 1 AC from fighting style? Haven't seen an abjuration build not using lock, but assuming you get armor spell from your cold dragon? Also sounds like you have 3 people running around in melee range, don't you find that to be a problem?

    • @westenev
      @westenev 7 місяців тому

      @@brandonlaurin1561 If I had to guess, they're using luminous gloves/luminous armor/coruscation ring, paired with the gloomstalker extra attack with an illuminated weapon (either light, or a weapon that deals radiant damage like Staver of Skulls). The extra initiative can't hurt either.

    • @ERBanmech
      @ERBanmech 7 місяців тому +2

      @@brandonlaurin1561 of course.
      My light domain / gloomstalker is designed to go in combat before everyone else because they use a radiating orb setup. The extra initiative, movement speed (spirit guardians), and extra action all help dump as many stacks of radiating orb as possible in turn 1 so my enemies have a much harder time hitting allies.
      My abjuration, sorcerer, storm cleric tank uses damage reduction given by arcane ward (and has temp HP from armor of agathys). While not always designed to be in melee range the build is easily able to manage and of course has the advantage of being a full caster so he has incredible versatility. I use the spellsparkler for lightning charges (later dual wielded with markoheshkir), the boots of stormy clamor, the callous glow ring, and the gloves of belligerent skies so I can stack reverberation on targets. If they get knocked prone then my barbarian can inflict bleed and maim on them so they get stun locked.
      My barbarian is a beast soul (tiger) to get bleeds and make use of the punch drunk bastard greatclub that makes your melee do a small aoe and have advantage when you’re drunk, I also combine this with the enraging heart garb and the linebreaker boots to rapidly stack wrath which gives additional damage on strength melee strikes, the gloves of dexterity ensure my AC is not too bad and I can do decently with ranged attacks using the titanstring bow. The thief rouge part of the build makes it so I have two bonus actions and can dash as a bonus action allowing my main action to be free for weapon attacks and so I can do more with my bonus actions than just rage on turn one.
      Lastly my lore bard life cleric is pretty straightforward for control casting and healing and allows my main character to easily navigate the social encounters. Though, I may experiment with the mental fatigue status effect so enemies can have even less resistance to my control spells.
      This party comp likes being in the thick of things since they actually are pretty safe and grouping helps make certain aoe abilities hit more enemies, and since the group is built with melee range in mind it compensates for those times where positioning just ended up being bad or you can’t get away from an enemy.

    • @brandonlaurin1561
      @brandonlaurin1561 7 місяців тому +1

      @@ERBanmech You mentioned extra action on the light/gloom. Where is that coming from? Did you mean you took 5 in gloom for the extra attack? I don't see too much reason to stick in cleric for levels 8 and 9?
      The whole idea of the arcane ward character seems a bit lost in the light cleric making everything never hit. I'm thinking of swapping that position with an eldrich blaster, but I do have to admit you've made me triple guess myself because just having the insane defense sounds so appealing, even if the armor of agathys never procs.
      In my idea party comp, I was using a monk instead of your beast soul. Certainly more AoE with the barb though. I like it. The idea of the smite paladin from this video was appealing, but without the other characters doing piercing seemed a little meh. A melee with some AoE sounds a lot better for this comp.
      I was planning bard archer instead of control character. With the damage these groups pack, is the control even really needed? I suppose some Hold person/monster with everyone in close range would just destroy everything, but then you could also do that with an archer build, right?

    • @ERBanmech
      @ERBanmech 7 місяців тому

      @@brandonlaurin1561 Edit: I was under the wrong pretense for gloomstalker ranger, my bad, it’s still good but not quite as great it’s an extra attack not an extra action.
      But, if you’re wanting the extra action instead you could drink a speed potion or alternatively take 2 levels of fighter instead of gloomstalker you can use a few items to compensate for the drop in initiative but I already intend on taking the alert feat anyway.
      Yes there is some anti-synergy between my arcane ward and the light domain cleric but there is some philosophy in it, armor of agathys and fire shield deters creatures from attacking the caster funneling attacks to the two characters I want them to attempt to attack. I’ll often be using sanctuary on my control bard so they can’t be a target, so the attacks are going to either my insane AC light cleric or my barbarian with the high HP pool. The arcane ward is going to often help with dealing with spells instead since they’ll need to do 46 damage in order to actually get through my damage reduction. Wizards suffer from being squishy so that damage reduction helps significantly when in the thick of things. I also include my full caster so I can fast track counterspell in the early game before my lore bard can get their 6th level magical secrets.
      I would say keep in mind that I am using hirelings to cast major buff spells on the party members before leaving camp so I’ll have things like aid, warding bond, freedom of movement, and longstrider up without needing to detract from party slots. The rule I learned is that buff spells that don’t require concentration and last until a long rest can still exist on party members even when the caster isn’t in the party anymore.
      My comp for my “camp witches” is that two of them will be 6 transmutation wizard (for the orb that can grant concentration proficiency) and 6 life domain cleric for the cleric buff spells.
      The last one will be 12 levels life cleric to get a few of the final buffs and so I can get the cleric legendary weapon from the divine intervention as a possible option for my healer bard (it grants an activated passive healing aura which could be extremely useful and allows me to focus on control spells, keep everyone blessed with the whispering promise ring, and smooths out any small damage from AOE’s)

    I just finished Honor Mode with the setup.
    I kind of works even if some aspects have been overhauled (Create Water as bonus action).
    However this is NOT a setup I can recommend.
    Paladin is terrible for a run that has to be kind of opportunistic; I ended up breaking my oath 3 times and had to claw back 10k from Oathbreaker Knight once which can be potentially game ending. Also this Paladin misses everything.
    Instead of synergy I advise to use an all-star team of 4 strong individuals.
    The throwing barbarian works but do not go for Eldritch Knight and Rhapsody.
    Gloomstalker or a Ranged Champion might be great characters as well.
    Radiant Priest...
    This is also act 3 gear dependent, especially for the druid who is not contributing that much.
    The final battle has been a chore but I have not done it that often before.

    In Act 1 before you get a good druid companion, I'd recommend Lae'Zel (or Shadowheart if you killed Lae'Zel) as your Tank.
    By the time you reach Lae'Zel you'd be level 2, and you can put a level into Light Cleric, which gives you Warding Flare to avoid hits.
    Use Withers to change her fighting style to Defense, make her stats 16 strength, 14 dex, 16 con, 12 wisdom and dumb the others. With her starting armour and a shield she'll have 20 AC, then with Shield of Faith 22 AC, all at level 2.
    Keep going fighter for Battlemaster so she can learn Goading Attack and Riposte, making enemies attack her instead, unable to hit her thanks to Warding Flare and high AC.

    Personally, I didn’t struggle with crowd control pretty much anywhere in the game. The only place is, probably, Viconia, but it is easily solved with scroll of tentacles or hunger of Hadar (or anything similar) in chokepoint.
    What is really needed - strong single target dps that allows annihilate enemies in 1-2 turns + kills bosses pretty fast. And, preferably, dps should be mostly ranged, since it simplifies usage of dome of invulnerability and mind sanctuary (nice combo, btw).
    For example, I just killed Cazador in first turn and rest of trash had no chance after that. And I forgot to do a short rest before fight, so had no Action surge.
    So, current party composition (builds from this channel with minor variations):
    1. Death slinger with gear for feral barbarian + Nyrulna. Tons of ranged aoe damage + control. But most importantly, carried me trough first act.
    2. Open hand monk - just when you need to nuke or control boss
    3. Gloom stalker, which was more or less useless first half of the game (missed a LOT), but now delivers lots of damage
    4. Plain tempest Cleric (no multiclass, not much thought into gear - healing stuff + blade ward gloves), mostly for healing. I’m considering replacing it with eldritch blast sorloc for even more damage. Enemies don’t damage you if they die first 🤭

    2x gloomstalk(5) assassin(3) that take out most groups of enemys before they even get a turn. (Works from lv3 on, one rogue, one ranger)
    covered by a stormcleric(5) (+sorc(6) wiz(1)) for buffs or maxed out critical (ilithid pwr) doubled(wet) lightning dmg (witchbolt or call upon lightning) for anything that survives the two assassins.
    Good addition would be the mentioned throw-barb for consistend dmg or warlock for mass-control via hunger of hadar.

      Yeah got it last week with some friends, one advice use the 4 water myrmidons that you can have. The bard at lvl 12 gets it by magical secrets, the druid can summon one at lvl 11 and become one and the wizard also gets one at lvl 11. They can do chill (the same as mourning frost), decent ice dmg in area, heal and wet in area (enemies and allies) they are just too good

    Quick question: if you are building a party towards this setup, who in your party handles the lockpicking and trap finding duties?
    I saw in the Death Slinger video that the build eventually is given 3 levels in Rogue for the Thief sublcass, but if you are doing that build for Karlach she can't become proficient in Sleight of Hand in order to pick it as an Expertise.
    Could you respect that build at level 6 to start as Rogue1/Barbarian 5 to get Sleight of Hand and then fill out the rest of the build as the video says?

    • @quzpolkas
      @quzpolkas 5 місяців тому

      Hey there! Was wondering the same thing, how did you decide to go about it in the end?
      Planning an honour mode run rn. Was thinking that I could use Astarion/any other Rogue for early levels, and then make the Bhaalist Paladin proficient in Sleight of Hand after taking the Bard levels, since you get an extra skill proficiency from multiclassing in Bard according to the wiki.

    • @JohnSmith-vk9ds
      @JohnSmith-vk9ds 5 місяців тому +1

      @@quzpolkas I started a Tactician playthrough a couple days after I made this post and what you said is almost exactly how I've been doing it so far.
      My Tav is the Paladin (went with Zariel Tiefling for the race), and I've been rolling with Gale, and Shadowheart until I picked up Karlach, then the fourth slot has been kind of a free-floating as needed, since you don't get Halsin until part way into act 2.
      It's mostly been Astarion in that slot to handle the Sleight of Hand needs for the first act. Expertise in Sleight of Hand, The Gloves of Power, and then the Smuggler's Ring carried most of the challenges, and then once I got the Gloves of Thievery from the Zhentarim hideout (after befriending them for resolving "The Missing Shipment") all traps and locks were pretty trivialized.
      Once I did everything in the first area, I did the Underdark next and I hit level 6 part way through the the Adamantine Forge area, and for my first level in Rogue on Karlach I gave her Sleight of Hand proficiency and then Expertise in Sleight of Hand and Athletics, stuck the Smuggler's Ring and the Gloves of Thievery in her inventory, and replaced the fourth slot with Shadowheart permanently (respec'd as a Light cleric). After I finished everything in the Forge, I went to the Mountain Pass zone. I just acquired the Blood of Lathandar in the monastery and so far Karlach has been handling all the traps and locked doors like a champ.
      Astarion did a lot of heavy lifting damage-wise in the early levels too: the Hunting Shortbow from Dammon once I got to the Grove was a huge pickup for him, and greatly helped against the Harpy fight, the Hook Horrors by the Sussar Tree, the Minotaurs, and the Bulette in the Underdark, and Hunter's Mark was hugely helpful on him in numerous other fights like Auntie Ethel and the Phase Spider with 3 attacks in a round from dual wielding on the Thief subclass.

      Because that last druid (and a mage) are kind of useless, everything is mostly going to be dead by the time paladin and barb will finish their turns.
      And even if there are enemies alive its probably to use 2 sword bards with bows to pew pew, 10+ attacks per bard and all that...
