    Thank the Lord you are ok. The longest we were without power was 3 days in winter. That taught me to keep powdered milk on hand. Every winter I have an emergency food cabinet. Its also good to keep your grill ready to go if you have one. Stay safe and here's A big hug and lots of love.

    I thank the good Lord that you and yours are safe. I fully understand how hard and stressful it can be when the power is out. I went through the Delta Ice Storm in '94. No running water or elec for four days and no power for almost the entire month of Feb. Fortunately I had a woodburning fireplace and a grill that I was able to cook on. I don't have a fireplace in the small house I live in now, but I do have a grill. I also keep cans of Sterno that I can use to heat up foods.
    If I only lived closer to you, oh how I'd enjoy coming to help you learn to home can so you will have more choices of meals when things go sideways like they sometimes do. And meats and other items in your freezer won't ruin since they'd be in jars.
    You can oven fry chicken. Just batter in seasoned flour like you would if frying but put it in oven to "fry". It's not as greasy when oven fried.
    Sweet Sue is a very common brand here in MS and I think the chicken dumplings are delicious. Once you have them in your saucepan, you can taste them and adjust to your taste. I sometimes add a pat of butter and maybe a chicken bouillon cube.
    Those bananas look ready for some delicous banana bread to have with your coffee. My granddaddy and my mama were diehard coffee drinkers too. I'm beginning to lean towards it more now too, but there's just something about sweet tea that makes everything better.
    From Cheryl - take care, stay safe, love you, God bless

    Hurricane Fiona in 2022 hit us (in Canada). 11 days without power and some were 21 days.Red Cross offered us all assistance of money. We needed the army to come help with getting trees off the road and many electric companies from different provinces. Houses still being fixed 2 years later and it was insane. So if you’ve been through it,you know. Our road had a path cleared by Joe and Frank on a tractor and very thankful for it.

      @@honeywell7892 Glad you made it through safe. What kind of assistance did the Red Cross offer? Did they pay for a hotel stay did they pay for your food that was spoiled? What about trees? Did they help pay for trees that had fallen down?

    I am glad y’all are safe, I was also in the path and without power for 4 days less than you guys were but we also lost everything in our freezer and fridge but I am so thankful, I have watched coverage of poor NC western and they lost family members, still buried in mud, rock and river, homes, roads tore apart, they can’t even get up to some people, death toll raising, most are only reachable by air, everything it’s devastating, and I realize nothing we went through was as bad as they been through, my heart goes out to NC and any state that has that much damage, it just doesn’t make sense but our food pantry is helping us they been opening every 3 days for folks to load up on, as we were denied FEMA assistance and it’s okay I would want the most of that to go to the ones who lost everything, as they are only getting 750 dollars and that doesn’t go far when your home was carried away by flood waters, bad part is most of them didn’t carry flood insurance as they were in the mountains who ever thought it would flood up there, 🤷🏻‍♀️ prayers for your family and everyone that’s involved 🙏❤️

    • @teamshoemaker
      @teamshoemaker 3 місяці тому +2

      FEMA is separate from insurance. The 750 is day 1 help. You can also get help from SNAP while other things are settling out to refill fridge and freezers.

      @@teamshoemaker unfortunately we do not qualify for snap as we own a home, but have one income, and insurance covers fridge lost but after your deductible which is 1000 for us so that is a no go, 600 of food and that 1000 deductible, but insurance told us normally FEMA will provide for food loss and give some funds however FEMA is broke we heard 🤷🏻‍♀️ all the folks in NC getting is 750 per family one time deal and they lost everything it’s heartbreaking 😞

      @@jennifermunn6898 Sorry to hear you were also in the path of the hurricane. Did it say why FEMA denied you 750? I heard at first they ask you for more information. Maybe you should appeal the decision. You could probably use the money to help stock some of your fridge back up. I know if one more kid asked me what do we have to eat? And our fridge is very slim at the moment. I hope to go to another food pantry on Monday. Hope this will help with our food.

    I suggest that you make some gnat fly traps by using empty jars then putting some plastic wrap or paper over the top with a few pinholes so they can get in & they'll drown in the apple cider vinegar. Make sure it's apple cider vinegar cos white vinegar will not work.

      Red Cross gave up to $750 per household. I know after fires here they put people up in hotel for e days. People used community facilities to shower and such.

    Glad you’re okay, but what we are hearing is not as positive as your report. FEMA falling way short and too slow considering their monies was that were shifted to illegal immigrants. Communications cut off and when Musk offered Starlink but that was refused by our government. Bittigieg made private drone owners stop their services of delivering insulin and baby formula as well as helping locate people who live out of the cities in wooded areas. We all need to share what we have and offer a helping hand and prayers.
