I'm a Donkey Kong player from Ecuador, and i wanted to say that i recently went to my first offline tournament nearly 2 months ago at an Esports arena that recently opened a few months ago in Guayaquil. I managed to make it to 3rd place out of 62 players with DK only. At one point had an entire crowd making monkey noises and cheering on me. My biggest accomplishment yet.
@@why3994 It wasn't covered in the video. This guy's talking about the Eggdog Invitational which is a big Melee Invitational happening at the end of August. Like Summit, there's crowdfunding where you can vote in your favorite players to compete in the event. And as you can probably guess based on what OP said, Junebug is campaigning to get in.
I feel so gratified, I have been grinding Elite Smash with DK since release and I always fundamentally believed he has all the tools to compete against most of the roster favorably. Thanks for pointing out his strengths!
Hi! If everyone is interested, here in Mexico we do think donkey is a pretty strong character We have 3 big representatives of the character, Ego | Skelldany, Cosmic Hive | Duplex and Stock Bandits | Johnny, they are pretty strong and activately considered top 5 of their respective states
Dude Chunkykong even from his early days has always terrified me, the guy is such a patient menace. I've also never seen someone practically SD to reset staling so PDKO percentages line up.. lmao
16:50 What in the world was that slow-mo edit? Why try to interpolate frames? It just makes it much harder to follow what's going on when 75-80% of the footage is completely made up.
You know, I kinda wanna see a tournament in 2024 of smash ultimate going back to the release version of the game, I think it would be interesting to watch (Yes im talking about version 1.0.0, with the broken Chrom Up-B)
Im not good at playing heavies but as a trapper archetype player most of the time i eat them for breakfast. Dk players are unusually skilled 4 no reason. Incin still gives me trouble.

DK is the goat, lol. If I boot up with one of my boys and they don't dk ditto the first round, I unplug and take the switch. Cpt. Falcon is also acceptable round one. No but actually been repping the character since N64, there's never been a moment where DK isn't fun, and Ult. is my favorite iteration of the character by far, not as broken as S4, but I love the polarizing nature of his tool kit, as long as your opponent isn't a corner camper its easily the most fun gameplay for both parties. All of their combos work against him and you can do silly and ridiculous combos on them. Just all around a good time.
It's Chunky and Marss fault, lol. But I'm super cool with it, Donkey Kong is fun. I'd rather play against DK than most other characters in the roster, and i respect the crap out of him when i play, i know what he's capable of.
anybody in here have like a discord or something just for advanced DK tricks and techs? i am kind of stuck with improving currently and would love some advanced insight from other DK-players!
I love Donkey Kong in Smash, but I think this just helps prove why I was right to hate the game for benefiting low skill heavy hitter characters a lot more than the tier lists made it out to be (quit around 2022). Also, thanks for wasting people's time with the obligatory "we need to look at the entire history of this concept for no reason but we need to pad out time anyway". At least you have a lot of chapters though.
Not trying to be criticize but how are the OG fighting game characters not considered brawlers? Ryu, Ken, Kazuya, and Terry glimmer and shine in close quarters combat.
I wish you talked more about what aspects of Donkey's moveset and the ways people are utilising/exploiting those aspects makes him more effective than he used to be.
I dont get it I play slippi my first match up is donkey kong, the next day i take a break from melee and play ultimate online I kept queuing with the same Donkey Kong that I played in melee the day before...
I told people for years DK has been slept on but nobody listened to me. Now I’m glad Hikaru and Chunky proved people wrong especially Chunky discovering UPB oos which is amazing for 4 years people said DK has no oos options now he does and it’s viable. I hope people continue to push DK because he’s far from bottom 15!

i do wish he had covered rarikkusu and leo's set at delta 8, one of the funniest sets imagineable. Rari 3 stocks leo with dk g1, switches to falco and 2 stocks him, then leo pulls off the reverse 3-0, wild
