1. You need to understand that the areas near Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City where you are entering are the political core areas of China. Tiananmen Square is a symbolic landmark of China, equivalent to the White House and Capitol Hill in the United States or Buckingham Palace and 10 Downing Street in the United Kingdom. If you care about cameras, you should not come to China. I only know one thing, that is, you must first have value, and then people will monitor you all the time. If you are just a nobody, who will care what you do? 3. I think the reason why the Forbidden City does not turn on the lights at night is mainly because of safety, because electrical appliances are prone to fire, and once a fire occurs in the Forbidden City, the losses will be incalculable.
@wangleo6788I mean the cameras are not in some bathrooms. They are in public spaces. Only criminals who want to steal something would be sad about cameras.
Chinese police and military are regarded as safety guard to civilians. Chinese is told to trust and relly on police since childhood and they call police as "uncle police" since childhood and continue after grow up.
My point of view is honestly if you are not a criminal, why do you care about the cameras? Who has the time and the effort to monitor you 24/7? The camera footage will be extremely important if a crime happens. Besides, UK is ranked one of the most high camera density countries in the world❤
London UK has more cameras than Beijing but nobody seems to care about it. In public place cameras are used for public safety. You don't need to worry about it as long as you respect the law and don't do damage to the public.
In fact I find the police and security guards very friendly and helpful. When I was in Beijing recently, I tend to get lost because I am not good at using maps and mobile internet. So the ample times I approached them for directions and help, they were so helpful and patient. I remember asking for directions from some London police officers many years ago, they were so unfriendly. I guess they think it is not their duty. 😩 I must also add the police in China DO NOT carry guns! Unlike Western countries. Look at the aggressive actions taken by the US police against their own citizens!
Western double standard shine through this video! 1. Beijing is chaotic? Because there's lawfully standards that everyone follows? In other countries where cars and pedestrians are not following rules, it's exotic culture? 2. I've been to Turkiye where people literally shout at you or follow you to sell you merchandise or service, not saying this is bad, but this is considered what you said people forcing sales. In your video, the owner of the store just politely said hello, like he did to everyone else without any other words trying to sell you anything! He let you film in the store without any other words trying to sell you anything. And this is forcing selling in your eyes. 3. You think the merchandise is tacky... what a word with no manners and respect. You can choose to buy or not to buy anything, it's your freedom, but god there are so many merchandise in China cause we have the ability to manufacture anything. There are so many wonderful merchandise that you don't even know how and where to buy, cause from the video you seem to have a very low budget, without even going to proper restaurants. Not saying this is bad or anything, it is okay to have a low budget, you can do things within your budget, but to attack because you don't have the budget to do something is such as a low blow. 4. From my research online, Ireland is not California, and has a lot of gloomy days all through the year, do you think it's because of the pollution or climate? Beijing cannot have any gloomy days because clearly you can see the sun shines in the video, and shadows and so on, and still these arrogant people don't know there is a thing called clouds, and think Beijing has one gloomy day and that's because of pollutions. 5. Every foreigner pays the same ticket price as the locals. Chinese ticket system only has tiers for children, adults, and seniors, with no differences between Chinese and foreigners. Countries like Turkiye and India has very different ticket prices for locals and foreigners. You are paying what is required to a famous sight because it is a historical treasure, just like many other sights around the world with fair price, yet you are still complaining, I don't know what to say. If you have an agenda, of course, you won't say anything good, but I didn't expect you can make negative shit up from nowhere. I see other comments addressing the cameras and securities and those are great and valid points, so I won't repeat them and I will just add on to it. Not only you, but everyone should follow RULES of the places you are travelling to. For instance, you will be fined up to $500 for Jay-Walking in Singapore for the first time, and could face a 6-month jail time in you keep doing it. If you are travelling to Singapore, you will follow the rules unless you want to be put in jail. In China, we allow Jay-Walking, there is no f**king social credit score like you guys have created to punish people. But we have RULES! If you don't want to follow rules of the place, don't come! China is extremely welcoming, and people are so nice to foreigners because we consider them as guests and we want them to have the best time in our home. So we tend to forgive things they're doing, like filming other people without consent, shouting on the street, do weird arrogant things, not speaking Chinese or even trying to translate with phones but complaining no one speaks English, and not following rules. BUT CHINA IS NOT WHERE YOU CAN ACT AS MONKEYS! ACT AS HUMANS AND FOLLOW RULES. This should be the very basic thing that your parents teach you when you are a baby, I don't know why I have to type long paragraphs to literate you.

There is an old saying in China called 'Be a thief and feel guilty', which means that thieves will be afraid when they see the police, and good people will feel safe when they see the police.😊
@@jasonhu7995In Spring there is an even bigger convention. All the representatives from all over the country will have a meeting in Beijing. Besides a lot of presidents and other countries visited Beijing in the past a few months. so I would say it’s pretty normal to increase the security. The major difference is that Chinese people feel safe around the army. We don’t feel scared at all.
No need to be intimidated by the heavy presence of police. They are there for the safety of the citizens and tourists . In these cases where you see big crowds of people, they help with crowd control so no stampede etc… Yes Beijing, Shanghai and other big cities can be chaotic sometimes. So many local tourists from other provinces visit bigger cities.
Exactly. China has the 2nd highest population and Beijing being its capital city, of course it’s going to be chaotic in stations because people commute😂lacking this perspective is a bit ignorant
There are more surveillance cameras per person in London than in Beijing. For countries, "the United States has 15.28 CCTV cameras every 100 individuals, followed by China with 14.36 and the United Kingdom with 7.5"
The relationship between the army and the people is described as fish and water in China. The police are here to protect people. They are not intimidating at all. When we see the army, it’s like we see someone really close, someone we can trust and someone we can rely on. That is quite different from the west. We are not afraid of the army, we adore them.
Uk street cameras are hidden whilst China camera are in public view. If there is sinister motive why display in public view??? Besides street crime rate in China is low by any standard and that translates to your personal safety, isn’t it??
Why are you still talking about cameras from that first video even though people have told you that your home country, the UK, has the most cameras per capita? You can check the data if you don't believe me, but you can stop spreading such ignorance. Besides, all cameras are in public.

As a Beijinger live near the Tiananmen Square, when I go to the Tiananmen Square, I am always required to report my ID number. I dont think its a unreasonable requirement, because these areas need more strict security measures. But I understand that you felt unhappy for you can not get into the Forbidden City although through so much security examination. Also, there are so many parks for free in Beijing (they are still beautiful), but you went to the famous heritage park, Jingshan Park, which need so many money and workers to maintain the relics, that is why these parks is not opened for free. By the way, there is almost no haze in beijing since 2008, the holding of Olympics Games, the government steps efforts to get rid of pollution. When we see the policemen, we feel safe , because Chinses policemen and army are called People's police and People's army, they work for us. We are not afraid of them, we trust them.
You guys must be super important. Everywhere you go, those cameras literally rotate for you for better tracking, also in every frame there are shady characters following you, and undercover agents using phones to report your whereabout. Hope you guys can make home safe. Stay cautious!🤫
As someone who grew up in China, I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to you. You have overcome significant challenges, such as language barriers and unfamiliar environments, to visit China and create videos that help the world understand the country better. This is both difficult and admirable. Moreover, I have watched many of your videos and I believe that you present a neutral and objective perspective. You share your genuine feelings about your travels, regardless of the region, whether good or bad, and you even approach the difficulties you encounter with a positive attitude. Because of your friendliness and objectivity, your concerns regarding surveillance and the military highlight a broader issue: differences in understanding privacy are not the result of malicious media portrayal, but rather stem from our divergent perspectives. Even kind-hearted individuals like yourselves can have different views. Therefore, it is important for us to explain the Chinese viewpoint: we consider our government to be trustworthy and believe it will not share personal information with private enterprises for commercial purposes, which could harm our rights. Likewise, our police and military are seen as trustworthy, and we do not fear unwarranted oppression as long as we abide by the law. Thus, being under surveillance does not pose a threat to us. On the contrary, the presence of cameras plays an indispensable role in combating crime. Many Chinese people in the comments section are eager to communicate with you because they see you as Western friends rather than media outlets intent on spreading rumours or misunderstandings about China. Some of their comments may seem overly urgent, but this is not a disregard for your previous efforts, nor is it a lack of appreciation. In fact, your videos are well-received and highly regarded on Chinese video platforms. Once again, thank you, and I hope you continue to find joy in your travels in China.
Thank you so so much for explaining this to us and giving us a great insight to our comment section for this video. It’s been unlike anything we have ever experienced before and we meant no harm and did not mean to offend anyone. We simply compared to the rest of our trip but after reading your message it makes a lot of sense so thanks for sharing and giving us a new perspective Have a lovely day
When in Roma, do as Romance do. you should learn how to understand your complaint in a good way. Beijing, esp Tian'anmen Square is the heart of China, that is why there are so many police and monitor. I believe there are many police and monitors in the area around the heart of your country as well. It is normal and no wonder. How come you feel so nervous and have so many complaints. When you complain, you should consider the reasons first. You are disappointed to beijing, and we are disappointed to you.
So many people are criticizing your ignorance, complaints and misunderstandings about the tightened security in Beijing (the capital of China), the surveillance cameras on the streets, and the police (including security personnel) on patrol. Don’t you dare to reply even a single sentence? ? Almost every one of them explained to you that as China’s political and economic center (equivalent to Washington DC, the Pentagon in the United States, Buckingham Palace in the United Kingdom and other important institutions), it is normal to strengthen security inspections, but you just always complained and said It's unreasonable. You also complained that there are too many surveillance cameras, which infringes on your so-called human rights, privacy, etc. It's really funny, the main purpose of surveillance cameras is for prevent crimes and traffic control only, you are not the important persons, who cares about you? Your own country has the highest density of surveillance cameras in the world, but you complain that China has too many surveillance cameras staring at you! what a joke? If you feel uncomfortable, unnatural, and feel like you are being monitored by the Communist Party at all times, Please leave China~ China open her arms wide to welcome the tourist all over the world with full of confidences, but pls get rid of your stereotype and prejudiced minds about China first~
To reduce air pollution and traffic congestion, and to encourage citizens to use public transportation, vehicle license plates in Beijing are issued through a lottery system with a quota limit. It is quite challenging to obtain a license, prompting many Beijing residents to opt for three-wheelers or electric scooters for their daily transportation needs, especially for grocery shopping or when they prefer not to use public transportation.
you just need to expect at tourist areas especially near major government buildings, there will be a lot of security. so if you look at the map, most of the tourist sites are right in the middle of beijing next to government buildings such as the people's congress. also you need to be realistic. there are over a billion people in china. there isn't the resources to track people in real time. unless you are doing something bad or illegal, no one is going to care and watch every tourist's boring daily activities. what the cameras are for is to reference to check back on if something does go wrong. if you ever had an issue and needed help from the police, you would know it takes them a bit to check cctv to get things sorted out. yes central beijing isn't the most tourist friendly place, but if you go outside where normal people live, it's pretty normal like most other cities in china.
Different mindsets, we think those procedures are for safety, they think it’s intimidating, typical western bias😊 and there’s a reason for those procedures, it relates to what some countries did in the past😊
Please understand that there are 1.4billion populations in China. That is more than 4 time the population of U.S.A. so what is wrong with more security? Isn't it great?
Great video as always! As a fellow Chinese, I am truly embarrassed by all the comments from my compatriots lashing out at you for simply sharing your feelings and opinions. I enjoyed Beijing but its most probably harder to "wing it," compared to other Chinese cities especially when you need to buy tickets in advance more times than not. Security wise it can get strict especially if you go at a time when they are hosting important events. I was there last year with a tour group when a certain Russian gentlemen was visiting, and why I say gentleman I mean Putin, so security was tight. Fortunately our guide helped us get through things and the Forbidden city still had lots of tourists. I was again in Beijing briefly this year and I got a local friend to show me around to eateries. Less security conscious because no big meeting or foreign officials coming in at the time.
it seems that you didn't enjoy your trip in Beijing very much. I used to live in Beijing for 13 years. anyway, I think China is a very safe country to travel around.
Since I have been to Beijing so many times, I prefer to go back to China via some other cities instead of Beijing, such as Shanghai, Fuzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu etc. Security is always higher in Beijing than in other places in China, for understandable reasons, e.g. national and international top political activities are taking place almost daily in the Great Hall of the People, which is just a couple of hundred meters away from Tian An Men (Gate of Heavenly Peace). A lot of 1st time foreign tourists visit only the well-known first-tier cities such as Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu and Xian, in reality, there are many less well-known cities with more interesting characteristics for you to visit, such as Nanjing the southern capital literately just under the shadow of Shanghai, Tianjin close to Beijing and is the gateway to Beijing, Suzhou famous for traditional Chinese gardens, Hangzhou where the West lake is located, Qingdao for its German influence including German beer, Xiamen a beautiful island on the mainland side of Taiwan strait, just name a few.
On the morning of July 15th, China's most important conference was held in Beijing. In the past few days and during the conference, security was much stricter than before. I hope that foreign tourists who have plans to visit Beijing recently can see this message from me. But regarding the issue of CCTV mentioned by the you, London is the country with the most CCTV in the world, why hasn't anyone complained about this invasion of privacy? If you don't break the law, CCTV is just a means of ensuring security and tracking criminals.I don't know what you're afraid of.
Definitely not the air pollution 😂😂😂 it's only cloudy, I have watched many different UA-camrs making videos in (北京) Beijing, I would say half chance you could see the blue skies.
I need to give a thumb down on this video. The way you are uncomfortable with police and security shows how deep trenched your western mindset is. Wish i could give you 9 other thumb down.
I’m so disappointed that you two just focus on the cameras and police, even you can’t distinguish guard from police. The camera is mostly used for recording and archiving, I never feel uncomfortable with this.

They have raved about the food, the transportation system, the views, the people, and many other things. Their videos, which are great and impactful precisely because they have been so *genuine* and *authentic* in them, have done more good for China's image as a travel destination than any of you keyboard warriors has ever done in your entire life. These videos are effective at changing people's opinions about China and making them want to give going to China a chance because the people making them, are real people with real feelings and honest opinions which you may disagree with. We all hate the incessant fear-mongering and biased coverage of China in Western media. But If we want more Westerners to tell their stories about their experiences in China that will counter the pervasive narrative, we have to be open to and tolerant of hearing different voices that are not effusive with praise 100% of the time. The rest of the world is not 新闻联播。 Otherwise, go back to watching 央视/舌尖上的中国, which has changed exactly 0 Westerner's opinion on China.
when I was travelling in the main square in Istanbul there were a lot of heavily armed SWAT police, but I felt completely fine, didn't feel I was being monitored coz I was not about to do anything harm and I was just nobody to them why would them waste their gigabite memory to monitor me. if they need monitor everyone in that square I guarantee you they need 1000 TB memory to store all data for one day, imagine how much memory chips needed to monitor everyone all year around. Even let say I was monitored by Turkish armed forces, were lauching political campagns against its government my purposes to visit Turkey? definitely not, I was there simply for leisure why should I being scared of being monitored? let alone they were monitor me or any other specific tourists, their presence there were simply to protect all of us in case of emergency. Were those SWAT police to monitor every audience attending Trump's campagin rally or to protect Trump and most of ppl's safety in cases of emergency just like the shooting incident?
You should be grateful for the sense of security brought to you by the cameras and the police. It is their uninterrupted work that brings you safety and order! Especially you have to understand that this is a country with a population of 1.4 billion! Instead of complaining all the time!
I would understand why there are many police personnel patrolling since China opened visa free to many western countries to allow westerners to witness the real China themselves, that China is not what the western media portrayed. I know you guys are genuine travellers as I have watched many of your travels to other Asian countries but China needed to play safe with more western visitors coming and given the current geopolitical tensions, China wants the world to see the real China with minimum "issues" if you know what I mean.
Let try a bit of reasoning for the omnipresence of security cameras: public safety is indirectly enforced and the evidence is the presence of all citizens, especially the kids, every where! Simply consider this: In L9ndon public squares, would you let your kids play wherever they wish? I rest my case !
Guys you were in the most central and "touristy" place of all the city, close to the Parliament, to the Forbidden City etc. of course there're safety controls :D

I must also add the police in China DO NOT carry guns!

By the way, there is almost no haze in beijing since 2008, the holding of Olympics Games, the government steps efforts to get rid of pollution. loooooool this is my favourite comment

Let try a bit of reasoning for the omnipresence of security cameras: public safety is indirectly enforced and the evidence is the presence of all citizens, especially the kids, every where! Simply consider this: In L9ndon public squares, would you let your kids play wherever they wish? I rest my case !
It feels like it was filmed in April!
Welcome to China!Enjoy your Trip
Thank you!!
@@EoinandAisling天天拿着摄像机满世界在拍别人,却无知的吐槽公共场合的的摄像头侵犯他的隐私,这丑恶无知的嘴脸,你完全可以离开
@@EoinandAislingGo back to your country, you're not welcomed in China! Btw, how much you guys get paid by BBC, CNN or your America daddy?

Thanks!

I am very disappointed that you guys being so double standard about the cameras while you guys holding a camera filiming so many people with out hiding them or blur them. I just want to say this is the capital city of a country and there must be very high level of security. If you guys not crminals why you guys afraid of cameras???? Also for the forbiden city, it is over 800 years and if there is no cameras there , what if people steal the ancient stuff and sell on the black market.Who will respond the lost??? U guys seriously need an explantion on this and i suggest you guys go to Washington DC , there wont be security cameras but snipers on the roof .
Amazing, thx
