China's Ancient Watertown's | Shanghai's BEST Day Trip
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 тра 2024
- Zhujiajiao is a place where ancient traditions merge beautifully with modern life. It's a quaint Watertown only a short 1hr metro ride away from Shanghai. Filled with twisting waterways, cobblestone streets, and curved rock bridges, where you'll find yourself fully immersed in a world of cute tea houses, centuries-old residences, and lively market stalls serving up some local delicacies, it's a living museum of Chinese culture, craftsmanship, and history dating back as far as the Ming Dynasty in the 1300s and is truly an enchanting, ancient gem nestled within China.

Went there before Covid and I have been fascinated with Chinese historical buildings and history.
The buildings are sooo detailed, the architecture is brilliant
对 那些建筑 只有在中国能看到 古典建筑
现在又是不同的中国了😊😊
especially Hui-style architecture
I was in Venice in February, kind of disappointed. Chinese water towns have very different vibe, at least they are cuter, cleaner, older and more exquisite and affordable than Venice. I personally prefer Chinese water town. Don't know why people keep dubbing them as Venice of China. Thank you for sharing anyway.
This water town is older than Venice.
I know. Can people quit dubbing authentic Chinese stuff as Chinese version of European things? (Roujiamo as Chinese burger, Xianbing as Chinese pizza, etc) That's not nice.
@@carinasung654 Yeah it's pretty annoying, venice is literally the euro version of a Chinese water town, not the other way around. All those other Chinese things are way older than their euro versions too.
that comb is made of sandalwood that oozes an intense aroma and has a calming effect.
also the Venice of china is 1000 older than the Italian one
Fun fact! That’s very cool

@@kevinaa114 Yes
@@kevinaa114 This is true, but these towns were built mainly of wood, and over the years they were destroyed by war and rebuilt. You can't preserve an old, beautiful building like Venice. But if you talk about the history of these towns dating back to 100 BC, the historical environment of China determined that the north produced warriors to defend against and invade the nomads, and the south produced grain to feed these warriors.
At that time, we did not have more technology to transport food, mainly through land transport and river transport to ensure the delivery of food to the north, so the town you see today was only to protect the river transport of small forts and posts for troops to rest, people around these buildings slowly developed into towns, forming today's towns.
@@kevinaa114 The Venice of the East Suzhou has a history of 2,500 years, Suzhou was founded in 514 BC
For the other food item, seller said RMB 12 for 500 gram. In China 1 Jin means 1 catty but their 1 Jin is 500gram
We got better over time with ordering bread by weight but it took a while
Really cool place!! Thanks so much for sharing. Really awesome that there’s so many options for subtitles too.😊 Thank you for adding!
My pleasure 😊 it takes a little bit more time but makes our videos more accessible
9:30 The fish in the glass bowl is a salamander
We had never seen one before!
@@EoinandAisling In China,We call"baby fish",because it looks like little baby!
it's axolotl.
@@camellia791 No, because its cry sounds like a baby crying, so it's called "baby fish"
@@camellia791 这不是娃娃鱼
Salamanders are a group of amphibians typically characterized by their lizard-like appearance, with slender bodies, blunt snouts, short limbs projecting at right angles to the body, and the presence of a tail in both larvae and adults.Salamander diversity is highest in eastern North America, especially in the Appalachian Mountains; most species are found in the Holarctic realm, with some species present in the Neotropical realm. The Chinese call it: "Baby Fish"Chinese pronunciation is: "WA WA YU".
❤❤❤👍👍
those are pet axolotls imported from Mexico, not the Chinese salamanders
As a Chinese man I have seen many westerners don't like sticky rice. Your are exceptional.
Oh really! We love it
Wow! This ancient water town is just amazing and beautiful! ❤️👍
It really is! Thanks for watching
I'm glad to see you come to China. If you encounter problems in China, you can always consult the young people you meet around you. They will give you the most enthusiastic help because they are exposed to the forefront of science and technology. Regarding Chinese food, you can consult the merchants on how to eat it, and they will be happy to teach you. I hope you have a happy journey in China.
I cant believe you didnt buy a painting. I would have loved to get one, its beautiful. 😍
im surprise that i havent seen you try Jian bing in any of the videos yet ?! highly recommend its a Chinese savoury crepe very common for breakfast (crepe itself + egg + soybean paste + coriander + fried bean curd for crunchy texture some places might put process meat similar to spam and optional chilli paste as well) had to describe it incase you might not like the ingredient lol. another common breakfast they have is the fried chinese donut (long stick of fried dough) and fresh un sweeten soybean milk.
Thank you for showing the REAL CHINA, unlike some fake youtuber video showing China in a bad light !
Hope you enjoy your visit and thanks for showing the tips on how to travel in China better.
Thank you for watching! We are just showing our experience and lucky us, it’s a positive one ☺️
if you like this type of china, wuzhen (乌镇) not far away from shanghai, is a same type , much bigger and cheaper
Ohh I like the sound of that!
salamanders are amphibians. They are closer related to frogs. But this species is a consider living fossil that remain same as 165 million years ago. Never seen these colors though.
Zhujiajiao is older than Venice. So Venice has the Zhujiajiao vibe - lol

Doesn’t he!! We couldn’t believe how amazing his English was and his accent
@@EoinandAisling the younger generations start learning English in 3rd grade, many middle class families send their kids to private schools to get a head start, they typically start taking English glass at age 5 or 6, many of them will be fluent by the age of 10-12.

Heyy!!
Awesome citywalk tour 👍
Is kind of strange to me to call an ancient water town (and other even more ancient ones) the Venice of Shanghai when they are actually older than Venice itself.
I understand the history however, I am more familiar with Venice a western tourists. And many others would also see this comparison
小朋友虽然英文说很少几句,但听得出发音很不错,胆子也很大很自信
you should go to WUZHEN, near Shanghai, it's so beautiful
Coffee with cute cats on the canal...maybe couple with the canoe, next time!
I am so glad you visited my hometown❤
If you have time, I highly recommend visiting Chengdu, a city in the west of China, where you can see giant pandas and enjoy many delicious foods, such as hot pot.😊
Your video make me so hungry for food😅, nice place to hangout
went to the same town in Shanghai and ate in a local restaurant which has many western oil paintings on the walls. the food in this restaurant is fantastic. 😃
Love your story
Aw thanks ☺️
#洪叔书法,感谢分享视频🤗
谢谢你们提供了中文字幕,祝你们旅行愉快。
amazing. thanks!
Thanks for watching
Your choice of background music is always great
2:51 Obviously you guys are in love with fried pancakes.😅
Haha yes we are 😂
I think you guys should buy one or two from that shop hand-craft with tiny fine needle , bit by bit became a beautiful art👍👍
It's interesting food you had.
It was very good!
the fish with long legs is a giant salamander, scientifically known as the giant salamander. The comb and horn scraper I bought later are made of buffalo horns. Using them to wipe your body or face can help you calm down and sleep. It's a good thing.
A very good place for tourism
It was such a good day for us
nice..
8:19 this is axolotle larvae.not a fish.it is a salamander(lizard like amphibians)
It was sooo cool, are they popular in China?
@@EoinandAisling in china it's called wawayu which is meaning kid fish but not kiss fish.wawa=kid,yu=fish.
@@EoinandAisling yeah cause it looks like mini chinese dragon.
The living creature in the glass bowl is called 'ウーパールーパー' in Japan. It was once very popular during a pet boom in Japan 40 years ago because the UFO cup noodle used it as a CM character.
"baby fish"😂
the rice dumpling with pork filling is called zong zi in mandarin, the dessert version is more popular, but i prefer this savory one. 😍
if you went during the winter which it seems like from the way you said it was cold 😂, it's off season for tourists. if you are about during a work day, you might also notice that a lot of these tourists are older. one thing older chinese don't like is the cold so it's going to be a lot emptier at tourist places during these months. probably better for you because you probably would not like the sea of people you get during peak season lol.
Nice
The fish in China is called "wawa yu" translated wawa (baby) yi (fish). It make noise call sound like crying baby.
In English is a Salamander.
Adh mor agus oiche mhaith

Have a good time in China❤
Let me tell you what kind of fish it is, translated by the merchants, it is called a baby fish or a hexagonal dinosaur fish, in fact, it is a salamander, which can be purchased on Chinese shopping platforms, and it is sold by size, about 1.3~2.5 pounds, and there are many colors now, which are completely the result of artificial breeding.

Hah I’m working on it 😂😂
that fish is called salamander
at around 18:00,
it could be 粽子,rice dumplings made from glutinous rice with fillings, usually marinated pork bellies ...
wrapped in bamboo leaves and tied with straw strings ...
during 300 to 200 bc,
a court official 屈原 was so sadden that his country was in decline, and his policies were not adopted ...
he threw himself into the river ...
the common people, made these dumplings and threw them into the river, hoping that the fishes will not eat his corpse ...
on the lunar calendar, fifth day of the fifth month, chinese around the world will make these at homes and remember him ...
The watertowns in china have only 1 thing in common with Venice.
Water!
Nothing else is alike.
19:51 Hahaha, when will you challenge the Chinese cuisine "Boneless Chicken Feet and Century egg"
Did someone say this?! Haha
9:15 It’s actually kid fish cause it looks like little baby😂
娃娃鱼(giant salamander)?
I think so!

I am very sorry, as a Chinese, I apologize for the female middle-aged saleswoman at the end of the video, her forced sales of her products and showing a look of anger is really ugly, most of us Chinese people will not be like this, she can not replace Chinese people, can not replace Shanghai people, can not replace the salesman. I watched the video and I was so angry that I didn't want to finish it at one point, I was really humiliated. I like your video content very much, you are very friendly, gentle and sunny, and you are spreading the beautiful side of China. Unfortunately, your beautiful journey was ruined by her.
Stop being dramatic and since you didn't do anything, there's no need for you to apologize for her. There are people like that everywhere in the world, their journey was not ruined by her.
差不多得了 这有啥道歉的
