As a Chinese, I think the controversy is due to the big difference between "being monitored" and "there are CCTVs". Hopefully you meant the latter. There's a simple fact is the gov doesn't have so much manpower to monitor billions of cameras. They only check it for targeting criminals and people who intend to threaten their regime. Therefore some of my fellows may feel offended when they hear "monitor" because they are not one of the targets. The cameras are documenting rather than monitoring -- this is the fact for them. I also get why foreigners use the word monitor but I liked your videos so I hope there's no more misunderstandings. If you feel China is a safe country, thanks to the cameras. If you go directly straight through the forbidden city from the south gate to the north gate, stay along the middle line, you missed about 80% - 90% of the palace. BTW, the time slot you get when you reserve the ticket for the forbidden city is the time slot that you should get in, it is not the time slot that you have to explore the palace. Once you get in, you can stay inside the palace as long as it remains open. I took my two kids to visit the forbidden palace about 2 months ago, we spent the whole day inside the palace (>6 hours). A tip for the foreign tourist who has enough time: you may start from the middle line and pick a direction, for example the left, to explore, and then come back to the middle line and then move north. When you get to the north gate, turn around and do the same thing. You will end up getting out from the south gate again. Then it is about 10 minutes' walk to the Wang Fu Jing business district, where you can find excellent restaurants, big shopping malls and a lot of local goodies.

It looks beautiful over there, we have looked into it but haven’t decided yet what to do!
Just a suggestion, you guys should visit according to the PC game Black Myth : Wukong, the locations in the game are based on the real places, especially in Shanxi(山西).
Oh wow that would be so cool

I hope you'll eat at those affordable mom & pop eateries... those where you might see a bit of a line up, where the locals eat. I usually tend to find those videos / foods most fascinating. 🍜🪑🎑🥢🥟

The dark sauce should be spread evenly to the pancake, then you put the duck meat and cucumber etc onto the pancake and roll it up. If you dip the rolled pancake into the sauce like Eoin did, it’ll be way too salty.
welcom back
Cina is a totally different world from the western countries, especially concerning culture, food , safety and the hospitality of the chinese people .
Thank you 🥹
