Love your approach to making these videos. Before and after dyno, explanation of power delivery, future expectations and anticipated limitations. The video work is quite good as well.
Good point there. That is one of the portions of this video that I enjoyed.

Nice channel by the way 👍
I’m impressed with the baseline numbers.
Definitely a solid improvement over the last generation, and its likely going to be a great platform for tuning and modding but..youre probably going to be looking at 50k-60k for one since dealers are for sure marking them up and paying that much for one is crazy, competition is pretty stiff in the 50k-60k sport sedan category. Especially when I know I can get something like a 2022 s5 sportback for around the 50k+ mark, and a m340i for only slightly more than that which both even stock already have 50-70hp on a CTR, better transmissions, better handling. Not to mention theres plenty of good tuning options readily available for those platforms already, and you can be putting 400hp+ down to the tires with nothing but a base tune. I really cant see anyone but huge Honda enthusiasts willing to pay the markup that dealers are asking for this car, theres just too many superior options in that price range.
10hp isnt solid. This car is going to do horribly. You're right, the price does not match the performance. Iv never seen a newer type R around here, and for good reason. So many more better options. Even if you hit 400whp through mods, you're breaking warranty on a 50k car. Prob the dumbest thing you can do when you can buy any 8th or 9th gen and put 10k into fbo/tune/turbo kit and make over 500whp.
all Honda fan boys already bought the previous civic type R (2017-2020) thinkin it was a limited edition. Dont get me wrong but i love hondas. I owned only hondas until my recent Golf R 2019. Also, interest rates on new cars are crazy nuts right now so most people buying these would pay the full amount in cash. You gotta find a buyer that loves honda enough , with 50-60k$ liquid cash for a Honda (or at least half). Good luck in 2022-2023 … if you have that sort of money, you would rather get a RS3 , entry level Porsche and the list goes on.
Handcannon77: I agree 100%, but you last sentence sums up what will happen. Honda lovers will pay. Period. And dealerships know this. Even though buyers can get more and better for less...people will buy it because it's a Type-R.
a bmw over a honda? enjoy...
@@Venomousrl Of course...? Youd have to be a delusional Honda stan of the highest order to think this Civic type R is the better choice over the new m340i, its an incredibly good and fun car for the price. If youd simply prefer the civic thats fine, but the m340i is objectively a far better car. And im not even the biggest BMW guy, id probably choose an Audi over everything else.
Whats really insane is that its making 40 more lbft of torque at 2500rpm!!!!
what is so insane about that? my first gen fk2 of this engine with just bolt ons did 504nm @3200 and they changed the turbo on fk2 and now a more hybrid one on this one so nothing insane about it .honda are too conservative , this engine easily could have done 370bhp from factory with just a different map.
@@cielo20 Its "insane" because from the outside the engine is almost identical and yet it both spools 700rpm sooner and makes significantly more area under the curve throughout the whole rev range.
All modern engine tunes are conservative. OEMs do that because one engine map needs to be able to make that at 40C in California on piss gas or at -10C in Norway.
@@BrycenKauai in fact on piss gas and at 40c in europe from factory they already make more than they do in us from factory . its just the map , The power it foes low end is from a better turbo that spools faster
@@cielo20 octane ratings are different in Europe. US "premium" fuel equates roughly to entry level in Europe. That's why they can map it a little hotter there. We don't get the lower rated stuff like you can get in the US.

@@roberttrojan9037 different turbo, they made changes to the turbo
@@tony4431 what difference does it make when your gonna switch the OEM turbo to an aftermarket bigger turbo anyway? Basically a redesigned FK8. Same power same tuning capabilities.
@@Ace20001216 There's plenty of people who don't change their turbo, could be beneficial to those who don't. Everyone has a different goal. This newly improved turbo could be the difference between the 10th gen SI vs 10th gen 1.5T engine. They put the CRV Turbo on the 10th Gen SI and it easily made 201 HP vs the 180 HP in the regular 1.5T. Just a good tune on the SI made a huge difference on it. So with a better designed turbo with just a tune I can see the FL5 doing great without having to upgrade turbo

More torque than I expected, I would like to see it on a rolling dyno and real world acceleration to see how well it can put it down... remember when cars couldn’t put down more than 260 front whp very well...
You mean a stock speed3? Same weight as CTR, but 260whp without the dealer option, 280whp with the dealer option.
I rolling dyno wouldnt make much more difference it always depend on how the dyno is set up here in montreal there is a shop with a dynapack dyno the read lower than most rolling dyno in quebec province …

@@cielo20 not really, last gen was hideous compared to the previous, same for the Accord. But you believe what you want to. Honda always goes through 5 years of horrible design, then correct themselves for another 5. Been like that since 1998.
Were both tested with stock setting or a base map? Numbers are higher than what Honda advertised

I'll stay with my 300 awhp, FBO Infiniti G35xS (VQHR) that's still not tuned... at least it's payed off though, with a new waterpump & gallery gaskets at 130k miles so its got another 100k left, easily...
I ran with a newer Honda the other day to 120mph, it was on some expensive wheels & obviously had work done to it. He did have a passenger though. Was with me neck & neck... the best race I've had so far. & I've raced plenty of old (2012) mustangs, camaros, boosted 90's civics, scat packs, wrx's, etc at red lights etc, and easily won
These new Hondas are some seriously quick cars. Especially when you compare the MPG we are getting... (I average 14mpg, with the way I drive over a 5000mi period. A Honda driver with a similar foot is still getting 20+ something miles a gallon and smiling every minute of it... this will probably be my next car, once I wear mine out in about 5 years. I flipped a modded k24z3 Honda Accord my senior year of highschool going around 100mph... they are some solid cars too. It was a 2008, & for the amount of damage the car received, I was perfectly fine.... I love these Hondas, & to be honest. I never see my self buying anything other than Japanese cars. (I've owned a few LS400's also. Some of the best cars ever made.)

For anyone questioning why the dyno numbers are high, heres the reasoning from Hondata themselves. Just for clarification purposes. Looking forward to seeing their work on the FL5 platform.
"The short answer is look at the gain not the actual numbers.
It is our dynopak, which is a hub dyno, and it is pretty well known that it reads higher than most dynos. As far as what the factory rating goes, it is hard to say what the engine makes at the flywheel. There's several factors I can see. First, looking inside the ECU it always has limits operation (maximum EGTs, maximum pressure ratios, maximum turbine speeds) so never reaches the maximums of the factory tables. But after putting 3 stock FK8s on the same dyno they all read within 1 hp. The other thing is that Honda can underrate an engine at will. With the AP1 S2000 they were rated at 240 hp and dynod at about 210-215. When the AP2 came out they were rated at 240 hp and dynod at 230+ hp.
We've done comparisons with dynojets and you can more or less apply a 7% correction to reach dynojet numbers. But it is more complex than that, because on a roller dyno much depends on the tire and if we plot the same car on the dynopak and dynojet then in the mid range the dynojet reads higher than the dynopak. Also on a roller dyno with some tires you can see the tire grow right about 100 mph, which increases the tire loss a fair bit.
The hub dyno is far better for tuning than a roller dyno. No tires loss. More repeatable. Ramp rate can be configured.
By way of comparison, the 8th 9th and 10 gen Civic Si were all rated by the factory at 200-205 hp. On our dyno, their peak power was measured between 200 and 204 hp."
Link: www.civicx.com/forum/threads/flashpro-for-ctr-tuning-results.22471/page-2
That's why this video is just click bait for the most part. Great added torque... But people who don't understand the difference between dynos are now saying that this car has been released and it's under rated from the factory. Lmao 🤣 internet BS
Before you tune it, Can you do a dyno between 91 octane vs 93 octane? Apparently you can get 10 more HP from this. I look everywhere and no one has done this test yet.
Hondata is in California, and they don't get 93 there. Maybe they can get it shipped in from Texas.
@@copperkeyracing6167 I’m sure there are some gas station they can find that has 93 octane. I really want someone to do this test. I hope they read my message.
laughing from Germany, 102 octane 🤓
@@evangelosantonopoulos7464 98 rated octane in Germany is 93 octane in Texas. It's a different rating system. 102 in Germany, would be E30 here in the USA, which is 97 rating. Subtract 5 as a rule of thumb. Sure, we can get 102 octane here (97 octane by our rating system). There is about 10 stations in Austin, TX. One is 3miles from me.
But when they say, they want to try 93octane, what they mean is E10 with 93octane, and not E10 with 91octane. You can cheat and mix in E85, get a higher octane, but you will also have higher amount of ethanol, which burns faster, and you will need to make adjustments to the injectors... which is not the same.... if you try it, you will run lean and lose power that way instead.
Be patient, I'm sure a flex fuel kit will come out soon, like the fk8 had... then, you can put it any amount of ethanol you want... ofcourse, you'll need flashpro at the same time, and Hondata will let us know at what ethanol mix gives the best power. Could be E30 again.
@@evangelosantonopoulos7464 keep in mind I’m not talking about RON rating that is used globally. Im talking about the standard used in North America. So 98 Ron = 93 octane. But 102 is insane, but don’t think it would matter since type r was designed for 98 ron (93 octane).
Why does tq just crash? Did the old one have much left in the turbo or is it just a really small turbo?
It's a small turbo on 91 octane - no matter what the turbo dies off around 5k....better octane just raises the while plot higher....I made 400whp/400wtq on 30% ethanol/91 mix
Despite the power bump , the extra added weight of just 88lbs with prevent you from ever feeling the minimal power bump , aside from this Honda decided to lengthen 3rd and 4th gears for more fuel efficiency in the fl5 resulting in taxing this cars potential in top end speed . A stock vs stock race between tue fk8 and fl5 are on video and the fk8 is still the faster car in power wise even though it has less power from factory , this is due to the fk8 being lighter and having shorter 3rd and 4th gears .
Thank you for your comment and watching our video.

Fk8 final drive is 4.1 and FL5 is 3.8
327 whp is pretty good, I just picked up a '23 RS3 which dynos just over 400 whp
400 my ass.
That would be a good race considering the RS3 is right at 3700 lbs and loses 15% of the power through the awd power train. From a stand still obviously the awd, automatic would eat it for breakfast, but from a roll, it would be interesting..
Actually Audi, like BMW, tends to underrate their motors and the new RS3 makes a true 400+ to the wheels on 93 pump (dyno verified). On race gas or E85 it's a very easy path to 550 (downpipe and flash). The Type R is nowhere near that with tuning
I'm not not knocking the Type R, it's just not worth 60k. For 40k it makes sense and good performance value
