according to the manual you have to put the dial in the choke when you prime it with propane .... pull up to 5 times and then put it on run in order to start. The reason you had a hard time startining it was because you were trying to prime it with the dial on open propane .... but don't feel to bad ... I have a hard time starting it even going by the manual
Our Champion 2500 watt arrived today. After filling up the oil tank as recommended by the Champion user guide, I worked up a mild sweat starting the generator for the first time. Finally, success! Thanks for all your tutorials to make this all happen!

I looked everywhere for an image of the exhaust port because I wanted to see how feasible it would be to pipe the exhaust out a window in the garage. Thank you, and keep up the great work!
The water from the propane will settle in fuel bowl in most dual fuel generators over a period of time but by burning gas every now and then you save yourself from a rust bowl..Great Video
Great video, I think this small 2500 unit will run my tear drop trailer on propane no problem, I only have a 5000 btu AC unit and no microwave but I will need a LOLOHO sticker on it to keep me safe, LOL
Sean....... Sean. You're not starting it right when on propane. Ya need to prime it in choke mode. 4-5 pulls in the choke setting, then, and only then, place your EZ START DIAL in the propane mode, and pull to start. Can I say it starts easier? Well, based on my experience and your video, if have to say individual results may vary. Thanks, again, for another great vid!

I have a 24 year old Coleman Powermate 3500 that I also converted and has a pushbutton on the regulator for priming. It too, still starts very easily even if just sitting for years. So I'm assuming there is no push-button on the regulator that comes with this unit.
I have an 18 ft Coleman 1805B with a 12,000 BTU air conditioner, and my first generation 2000W Champion dual fuel generator and it starts and runs the A/C with no issues. That is until we move to higher altitudes.

I'll be your HUCKLEBERRY!!! Thanks!! :-) :-)
They can't put a 30amp receptacle on that generator Shawn. It is only a 2500 watt gen. It can only supply 20.83 amps at 120volts. A generator has to supply at last 80% of the rating of the receptacle or 24 amps for a 30 amp receptacle. A 3000 watt gen would supply about 25 amps, which would meet that requirement. 3000 W and 3500w gens are where they start installing 30 amp receptacles, if I am not mistaken. Great video, I love the propane option.
The nice thing with the victron 3000. You can tell it how many amps to pull. It will pull the rest from the battery bank. I have the victron 2000, Two BB batteries, Honda 2200. Nice video.
😂 OMG this is by far the best tutorial for this generator. Thank you Thank you for making it humorous- just makes opening up this thing and setting it up that much more fun and understandable to newbies.
for A/C units on RV's, try turning the fan on first, then turning on the cold settings. This way, the Fan and Compressor doesn't turn on at the same time. I can run my 8k A/C on my RV with a Honda 1k generator. Hope this helps!!!
Glad I watched this. I was debating about whether to get this generator and a soft start or the 4500 watt version. Mine AC is 15,000 BTU so it is kind of a no brainer since the Champion 2500 wouldn't adequately power your 13,500 BTU. As usual, very useful video.
Great job Shawn. I have gas only unit and it ran my generator at lower elevation. Not at 9000 ft but did not need it there. Safe travels and prayers for your uncle and aunt.
I have the Champion 2000w dual-fuel generator. It has no problem starting our 11,000 BTU air conditioner with a Micro-Air EasyStart on propane. I need to make sure my fridge is on propane (as Sean mentioned) and the house battery isn't charging (battery disconnect switch).
I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to try and start it with choke on right? I think they say pull the cord a few times with choke on, then turn choke off to actually start it
We just bought this generator and finished break in hours. Probably going to buy a 2nd unit with the pairing module IF we need to run one of our ACs. With propane, talked to Champion support and they confirmed that you must offset the dial slightly from propane run, especially on initial several starts. It’s a known issue.
Do not run eco mode for larger loads, and do not run it for extended periods of time under high loads or loads that may increase and decrease (fluctuate) during the run time. You were drawing too many amps on the first test and even the second test. Limit the draw on your Victron to 15A. Batteries to run AC, generator to charge the batteries works the most consistently for me. I also use my generator (same model) mainly for tasks away from wall outlets and to recharge my solar batteries. Place the EZ start dial between gas and propane while trying to start it.
Seriously, read the instructions S-L-O-W-L-Y and your propane start problems will go away :) you failed to use the choke setting to assist in priming the carb prior to starting... you are welcome
Im not sure how I see the Value in this other than it basically being a 27 minute commercial for Champion. Two of these together (Recommended setup) Would be the size of a 3500 w . At 1400$ (Price on Amazon is 621 today x2 plus parallel kit) , You are far better off getting a Predator 3500 Inverter Generator. They are 850$ ish brand new from Harbor Freight. I bought mine on a Sidewalk clearance sale for only 300$ plus tax . It runs my whole camper 15,500 btu AC while using everything in it. It throws up to 30 amps too. Has push button start. Dimensions are 22.75 x 17.3 x 20 inches and it weighs 99 lbs. These Champions are 17.3 x 12 x 17.7 and weigh in at 40 lbs. The predator actually takes up less space than the two Champs. Weighs 20 lbs more though. The Predator rates just below the Honda. Love yall, just throwing my 2 cents
Congratulations on your great sense of humour that made me watch the whole demo, which was also a great help. I just went out to Machine Mart and picked one up (a generator- not a sense of humour.) Just got to wait for the arrival of my Brother sticker printer. 😆 NO WASPS!
Did you empty the gas tank before testing with propane? I know nothing of what is behind that propane/gas/choke switch, but my guess is it just controls the butterfly valve in the carburetor. (I.e. no cutoff for gas tank.) So, with gas in the tank AND propane attached it could be using both???
I had a 2000 generator for a number of years and it did a fine job as a lighting plant and occasionally running the microwave and any other appliance you can plug into a 15 amp circuit. Trying to run anything close to 13 to 15 amps causes the generator to run flat out. If you can get your A/C unit to start through technology and leave it on for extended periods of time I think is putting a pretty good strain on your generator. It works........but!. Honda has upped the game and now does not even offer a 2000 watt generator as such anymore. They have beefed up the 2000 watt to 2200 to ease the strain on that class of generator. This way they have a unit in the weight and capacity class that a lot of RVer's want. It will run your A/C without ripping its guts out. For me, I use the 3000-watt version now and it more or less idles when the 13500 BTU A/C unit is operating. If my sweetie chooses to run the microwave at the same time occasionally, it can handle it. Any research I've done brings me to the conclusion that the only manufacturers that are not playing games with the wattage numbers are Honda and Yamaha. If you stay under the advertised "continuous wattage" numbers on the less expensive models they usually do fine. Only my opinion. Happy camping.
For a second, I was in shock that a company placed such stickers, read the comments, and finally caught on about the jokes. As a Latino, the sticker about white people in California had me thinking this was a Cuban generator company LOL.
One thing you did wrong. You turned the generator off. And then you turned off the propane. do it in reverse. When you turn off the generator first, then turn off the tank. There's gas still in the line. First, turn off the tank gas. Let the generator continue to run, and it will shut off on its own after It uses up all the gas in the line. After it shuts off on its own, then you turn off the generator switch. Leaving the line empty.

I tell you man it's getting so bad that for a few minutes I thought those stickers were real LOL no kidding (freaking California) but that is awesome and I'm buying one of these generators so great video
All those times he was trying to start on propane and it wouldn’t start he didn’t have the choke on the generator to prime the generator then you turn the knob back to propane and it should start 🤣 so each time he just had it on propane instead of choke and it wouldn’t start I was laughing.
My Champion model number 100900 2000 watt duel fuel inverter generator can power my 12000 BTU window A C unit and a TV and a portable fridge freezer cooler while it is not on Eco mode. I love my Champion!
I would really like a light weight generator that would run and power our camper and was seriously considering this unit. But having a Honda EU3000is with electric start and VERY quiet. It's a tough sell. You can run the Honda anywhere as no one can hear it. Electric start is awesome and it sips fuel. But I'm getting older and so is he wife and it takes both of us to move it around. Sooner or later we'll have to make a change...but I'm not sure this one is gonna fill the bill or not.
I haven't read the directions, but old v8 conversions preferred to start on gasoline and then be switched to propane. The rotary switch starting at the choke on gas, then propane and off, makes sense.
Good info. The reason I like propane is....if times get tough just about every back patio in America has a gas grill on it!!!!!!!! Hello!!!!! Not that I would do that, but just sayin.
I like this video. Was laughing with the stickers. Glad the testing you did worked for the air and microwave. Very well done. Thank you for this video!
The propane regulator must be in vertical position to properly flow the fuel (from top to bottom). Anyway, it is a decent size dual fuel generator.. I hate the weight of my 4500w generator
Never leave an empty plastic bucket behind your generator all night. Why you ask? Because when you wake up the bucket will not be in the same shape it was when you went to bed. I can tell you this from experience.
Please tell me again how to shop on Amazon through your store. I try and then go looking for what I intend to buy (not on your Amazon store site) and it looks like I lose you. Can I put everything I'm buying into my shopping cart and then go to your page and checkout? Will that work? Thanks.
Great video as always. Is there anything regarding the max size propane tank that can be hooked up? Have a 100lb tank at home and would be great if grid went down to attach to it.
Loved your video and the stickers. We just got the dual fuel 3100 generator. Propane instructions say to pull the choke, and I *do* like the electric start
Is it possible to start it on gas and then switch to propane? I ask because back in the 70's my uncle had a car that was converted to run on propane. He had to start it on gas before switching over. Might make things easier since it seemed to start really well on gas.
Doesn't your propane demand regulator (that big black circular thang) have a button in the center that allows you to pre-load propane into your propane hose. Mine (non-champion), I press it for about 2 seconds to load propane into the hose before I try to start it.
@@zedee2000 I have the Hutch Mountain propane conversion kit for my Honda EU3000is generator. I thought the primer button was a feature of demand regulators.
@@leguirerj they all should because some don't and it makes the company look bad when it's hard to start with no propane primer bulb. I have the hutch mountain kit on my 2200 watt Honda easy to start. My Baja propane only 900 watt generator also has it easy to start. But the 2000 watt non inverter and 2200 sportsman watt inverter generators don't have primer bulb very hard to start on propane. Up to 47 pulls to start it I'm wearing on the pull cords.
I just got mine a couple days ago and it didn't have nearly all the stickers. How was I supposed to know you aren't supposed to run it while on crystal meth?
Something you can use that exhaust for .. if you put a 5 gallon bucket of water behund the exhaust then wait a few hours while the gen is running ..wzrmer water... some times if you insulate the bucket it workdms better .. belive it or not as long as you have wayer where tbe exhaust hits it will not melt
Since you have a Victron inverter, you should be able to turn the AC amp input down to 13 amps on your control panel when running on propane, and let the battery/inverter make up the difference to run your air conditioner compressor with the Victron power assist feature.
Purchased two of these last spring.. My complaints are limited to the starting on propane. It takes at least 15 minutes of back and forth on the starter process.. I noticed you have had the same issues starting it… Did you do anything to the regulator for it to start easily?
I have a similar Champion dual fuel, model 100420. It takes forever to start on propane. It needs a bleed valve to prime the propane line but I'm guessing the lawyers won't allow it.
I also have the 2400 - The way I start it is pull easy (choke) till you fill it wants to start in prime/choke ( that starts a vacuum witch opens the regulator for propane) , then put in propane, pull a couple of times ( you may have to redo procedure ( choke/propane) again till it starts.
Hi Loloho guys - another great video, but I do have a question...I remember a video a while back that Sean put out about generators that said when running a generator, it's a good idea to disconnect the house batteries unless they need to be charged because that extra load required to charge the batteries might be enough to prevent the generator from powering on the A/C unit....I may have missed it, but I don't think y'all disconnected the house batteries before trying to start your A/C unit from the "little banana". Could that have been the reason why the A/C couldn't start? Love y'alls channel!
Thanks so much I just bought this generator to replace my predator 2000i because of the extra power and the propane option your video is awesome plus I just Saw the Alabama tag I live in Lillian Alabama on Perdido bay love your videos
Hi, would u still recommend the gen after using for over 6month? what about quality and durability, would u mind to give me some feedback please 😀? thanks in advance kr
When you started it and it rolled albino coal, I bet I know what happened. If you turned it upside down to dump remaining gas, it put some oil in the intake through the crankcase vent
I am correcting my answer since I misread your question. The manual states to give a few slow pulls in the Choke position to prime with propane. Then turn the handle to the Propane setting and pull on the start cord quickly to start.
Key word stamped on unit "PARALINK" . Used with paralink kit it comes with 30 amp plug, able to give the average 30 amp RV all the power you would need.
I just received my new Quincy 60 gallon upright air compressor. Other than the Quincy sticker on the tank, I removed a dozen idiot stickers, English and Spanish. I hate those things. Everything I need to know is in the two 30 page each instruction and parts manuals.
Did you try to kick on the fan for the a/c first, THEN the cold? I'd like to only use a small inverter genny like this rather than a 100lb inverter generator. My small camper has a 13,500btu (overkill) a/c. I'll have to test it by the fan first, then the a/c cold to see if it doesn't overload the generator. Otherwise, I'll install a soft start to my rooftop a/c for another $300. and not worry about it.

All those times he was trying to start on propane and it wouldn’t start he didn’t have the choke on the generator to prime the generator then you turn the knob back to propane and it should start 🤣 so each time he just had it on propane instead of choke and it wouldn’t start I was laughing.
These guys would have the gen market on lock if they offered a few sizes of dual fuel WITH remote start 👌
My Champion model number 100900 2000 watt duel fuel inverter generator can power my 12000 BTU window A C unit and a TV and a portable fridge freezer cooler while it is not on Eco mode. I love my Champion!
Should you use a surge protector between your rv and your generator and if so where would you put it?
Did you end trying it with the compressor on when using propane? You seemed to believe your a/c compressor hadn't kicked on.
just purchased one for $518 on amazon , very happy
Good info. The reason I like propane is....if times get tough just about every back patio in America has a gas grill on it!!!!!!!! Hello!!!!! Not that I would do that, but just sayin.
I shouldn't have watched your video first thing in the morning. I almost peed myself when I saw the stickers!
I like this video. Was laughing with the stickers. Glad the testing you did worked for the air and microwave. Very well done. Thank you for this video!
Westinghouse 4500 works really good to love your videos
Thumbs up for custom stickers
The propane regulator must be in vertical position to properly flow the fuel (from top to bottom). Anyway, it is a decent size dual fuel generator.. I hate the weight of my 4500w generator
Never leave an empty plastic bucket behind your generator all night. Why you ask? Because when you wake up the bucket will not be in the same shape it was when you went to bed. I can tell you this from experience.
Hahahhaa...loving the stickers! Just translated the spanish one about the surfer. hahaha
😁
I have a 2.5k gas only Champion and it will run my Dometic Brisk A/C with a soft start. I do cut off other breakers when using the A/C.
It does not. Interesting idea, though.
Some do and some like sportsman 2000 and 2200 inverter does not. Without harder to start. What brand do you have?
Hello from Ohio🤗. Love your channel!!!
As I sit in the desert near lake havasu, with a dead generator and only 50watts of solar, I watched this video with lustful delight.
You are hilarious! And super informative! Great video! Thanks! 😃👍
""Warning Hay muchos gringos locos viviendo en california"". Jajajaja
Since you have a Victron inverter, you should be able to turn the AC amp input down to 13 amps on your control panel when running on propane, and let the battery/inverter make up the difference to run your air conditioner compressor with the Victron power assist feature.
Yes, definitely. The smaller generator should work fine for us due to that feature.
Others have it seems to be cost.
Dude....You nailed it! I totally see where you are coming from and I agree with you. Thanks...
I have the banana slicer, but my bananas are all bent the other way. I cant use it! So bummed.
I can assume you don't have KOA stickers covering your windows.
Do you think this would run a 12,000 btu window ac, home refrigerator, a couple lights and fans during/after hurricane?
When you started it and it rolled albino coal, I bet I know what happened. If you turned it upside down to dump remaining gas, it put some oil in the intake through the crankcase vent
If you had trouble starting the unit indoor, what kind of hell will I run into during winter power outtages by 10f?
those are some helpful stickers, especially swallowing spark plug
Hobo tech! Two of my favorites!
Greetings...
I wonder if they want you to start Propane mode with the dial set to Choke
and then as soon as it starts rotate to Propane ?
I am correcting my answer since I misread your question. The manual states to give a few slow pulls in the Choke position to prime with propane. Then turn the handle to the Propane setting and pull on the start cord quickly to start.
I’ve subbed just for the labels! 😂 We need more of your humour! Jet engine hairdryer 😂
Love those white stickers! Hilarious 😂
Key word stamped on unit "PARALINK" . Used with paralink kit it comes with 30 amp plug, able to give the average 30 amp RV all the power you would need.
The stickers were great 🤣
Thanks for the review. Have you tried turning off eco-mode before driving your AC? I would think that would provide greater power.
I’m about to purchase one of these. I have an Intech Explore with an 1100btu dometic. Pretty sure it’ll work fine!
Otherwise, I'll install a soft start to my rooftop a/c for another $300. and not worry about it.
interested in knowing if you needed the extra soft start or could you do it without
