Heart did perform at Kennedy Center Honors and it was amazing Jason Bonham played his dads drums. Robert was tearing up. Jason looks up at one point as to acknowledge his dad. It’s a huge production you have to see it!!!! Also Jack Black paid homage to Zeppelin it’s a must see !!
Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson grew up very huge Zeppelin fans. They performed as heart at the Kennedy Center honoring Led Zeppelin by doing Stairway to Heaven. And did such a freaking awesome job on Stairway to Heaven that it bought Robert Plant to tears him and Jimmy Page. both and John Paul gave them standing ovation and very high approval of their version of the song.
I was there in Sydney in 1972.The audience rushed the open space in front of the stage from the first chord, with Plant shouting "go back, go back". The concert continued despite the crowd being right up the stage. No one tried to get on the stage. I am in the grandstand, first deck, front and centre. The problem was not the audience being close to the band but fear they would damage the grass surface ahead of the Easter show (it was February). No damage and band played on for three hours
One of the main reasons for the differences between LZ2 and LZ3 is how the songs were written. For LZ2 the band was writing/recording while on tour in the US, dropping into Studios between shows. For LZ3 Plant & Page went on vacation to remote cottage in the Welsh Valleys........ lot of time playing around camp fires led them to writing more acoustic stuff.
Heart was heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin. They covered a number of their songs over the years. I saw them in Convention Hall on the boardwalk in Asbury Park, NJ on August 16th 1977, the day Elvis died. They closed the show with "Rock n Roll" dedicated to the King. And yes they did Stairway at the Kennedy Center Honors with the 3 surviving members in attendance. Jason Bonham played his father's kit from 1973. Heart was terrified to play in front of them. Afterwards they were talking with Robert had he said he usually doesn't like covers of their work, but loved Heart's performance.
Love all the extras you add - thanks! I think you're right about them dropping it from their set list. I saw them in 1972 and they opened with it but when I saw them in 1975 they opened with 'Rock And Roll' and I can't remember them playing 'Immigrant Song'.
Anne Wilson's cover version was one of many covers on her Hope and Glory Album. Well worth a listen. Heart's plus others tribute to LZ at the KCH always brings a tear to my eye.
The otro jam on this song from L.A. in 72 is the quintessential Led Zeppelin. There's a bootleg album "Burn Like a Candle", with the live unedited version. The sheer power of the music is unbelievable.
Another unique aspect of this album is that there are only three guitar solos ( although there are layers of guitar overdubs on “ Gallows Pole” admittedly. Having said that, the solo on SIBLY is worth the cost of the album by itself.
Immigrant Sing was played as the opening number for most of their live shows from about late 1970 up to late 1972. It was then replaced by “ Rock n Roll” from early 1973 up to mid 1975 but was never played live by Zep after the Autumn of 1972. You can also hear a version during the opening titles of “ The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” ( the one with Daniel Craig ). I first heard Zep live in November 1971 in Manchester, England 🏴 and they opened with IS. It remains, to this day, the loudest thing I have heard in my 68 years alive! Great reaction video again Mike and Dev. The “ Gong Show” clip had me crying with laughter. Best wishes from 🏴 England.
I must say this was an exceptionally well researched video. Great job and much appreciated! Another "nerd" moment for this song is a video by 12tone who did a video on "Understanding The Immigrant Song". Another good resource to check out is Rick Beato who has done a few videos on Zeppelin songs. Ann Wilson was called "The Female Robert Plant" at one time and both she and Heart have a history of covering Zep songs. It's rare I like covers but hers for this was interesting and I get where you're going with the Tomorrow Never Knows reference (I love Tomorrow Never Knows; it's one of my favorite Beatle songs).
I love the way y'all highlighted the immigrant song on your show. Good job, well done. I do wish the song was longer. The bass playing was awesome. Yes, indeed.
I live in Castleford in the UK which was a Roman settlement back in the day as 2 rivers meet here in fact approx 200 metres from where I live also not too far from York where vikings invaded
UNFORTUNATELY they didn`t play this when they hit Cleveland in `75, to the cringe of us Lads from the Norde lands of the United States...IT was common for the viking yell to be heard on a snowy nite or usually 6AM waiting for the school bus when that came out....great stuff and giddyup a Ding Dong you busy beavers and catchya on the rebound
Time for some material from the Madison Square Garden concert ! Try the song Whole Lotta Love from the Madison Square Garden concert next . Also Stairway to Heaven from the Madison Square Garden concert. Not to be missed.
I love Ann Wilson….and normally love Heart’s covers of Zeppelin. But this solo interpretation. GAWD NO. It’s a war song! The driving rhythm helps makes that point. Trying to “gentle down” this warrior’s cry with violins is just…….so off base! Nice psychedelic vibe….but for a different song.
@@MusicforBusyPeople Yes, it was etched into the dead wax on some issues of LZ III. I have 2 copies of that album; one with that I don't play and one without which is the one I use.
It is a song about Vikings. Not really related to their time in Greenland. Secondly. There were no transatlantic flights at the time. From Great Britain you went to Greenland and refueled turned left and went to the States. From the States. Vice Versa
From Wikipedia: "On 4 October 1958, BOAC started the "first-ever transatlantic jet service" between London Heathrow and New York Idlewild with a Comet 4, and Pan Am followed on 26 October with a Boeing 707 service between New York and Paris." And, of course, propeller flights were even earlier.

Makes sense

That first judge on the Going Show was Pat McCormick. He played the rich Mr. Big in the Smokey and the Bandit movie.
Right, Smokey and the Bandit!
This is a classic song and a fav song of mine
Adore this, adore our tribal European cultural heritage.

Undoubtably the coolest couple with a music review/reaction channel on UA-cam ..... both extremely entertaining and ed-u-ma-ca-tional !!!

Great informative stuff guys

Immigrant was retired mainly because Plant's voice dropped during the Japan 1972 tour and he changed his singing approach from contralto to tenor.

You should see the Dread Zeppelin version of this. It's cool and scary!
The solo on HTWW album is so f-ing good man. Wish the studio version had one!
I live in Castleford in the UK which was a Roman settlement back in the day as 2 rivers meet here in fact approx 200 metres from where I live also not too far from York where vikings invaded
The live solo later became his over the hills and far away solo 73 onward
One must hear "That's the way".

Kennedy center stairway too heaven

Now, now, we mustn't interrupt the Zeppathon. 😉🤓 I am thinking we should do the MSG 73 concert en masse after Houses of the Holy.
@@MusicforBusyPeople YES ! Absolutely ! Including the entire 26 minutes of Dazed and Confused !

Will we be discussing thw LZ3 inscriptions Do What Thou Wilt / So Mote Be It?
🤓 Is that something etched on the vinyl? If so, that's probably above our pay grade. 😉

They issued Singles to record companies mostly fans didn't get singles
I'm too busy to leave a proper comment ..... ;-)
This, then SRTS, WANTON, Achilles
They stopped doing that song after 1972…..Robert injured his voice and could no longer reach and sustain that note.
I'd like to hear Bjork sing it..in Norse.
Just for the experience, mind you.

Weren't they in Iceland?

how old r u guys?
Let's just say Mike is a child of the 70s, and Dev is younger than that.
robert's voice couldn't sustain immigrant song. it was more because of that.
That makes a lot of sense.
I don't think even Led Zeppelin did a straight cover of any of their own songs. 😀
