Even if some info is wrong (I have no idea) its always funny when that comment still gets more likes than the one correcting it. Most people don't care about the details we can just appreciate a classic line spoken by a badass piano wizard.
@docsavage8640 I wouldn't really say that. Until my teacher showed it to my class, I didn't even know it existed. I saw the show on nickelodeon and liked it. I then saw the movie, which had the same plot as the show. I then realized it was a comedy a few minutes in.
@crealkillr I think I realized it was a comedy either if my teacher told me or I saw Jack Black was the lead. Both are possible, but I realized it quickly either way.
I saw this in a flight terminal coming back from a deployment. There was about 20 of us waiting for the C-130, and none of us had seen the movie before. Sadly, they stopped the movie with about 10 minutes left. It was a huge disappointment for all of us. 😂
There's something about this movie. It may not be the best filmaking, script, representation, serious, tecnical movie ever, but it's made with such love, respect and care for Rock n Roll history and fanbase that.. It inspires!
Jack Black hams it up mercilessly in a role that was absolutely made for him. Right from the very start when he tries to jump into the non- existent mosh pit you know this is going to be great. Being a musician myself, and having been around guys like this even makes it more fun. Some great bits in this film especially when he can't spell his name on the blackboard, and he says to the kids about Led Zepplin 'don't tell me you guys never got the Led out'. Sarah Silverman is great as the the nagging girlfriend, and real satisfying ending. Just a great fun film.
According to Max Brooks his mother Anne Bancroft saw Jack Black in a school play when he was a teenager and said he was the next Marlon Brando cos he had such charisma and acting skill from a young age. That's why he can really ham it up and over play a part and still make it work.
@@Deathbird_MitchI second or third this depending on where we are. They do some amazing work for sure. The Slipknot series they do is some of the best stuff out there.
I always thought it was funny how in the movie Summer couldn’t sing yet in real life, she (Miranda Cosgrove from iCarly fame) is a successful pop singer.
Jack's best movie, no question. Not just because of the acting but huge respect to him and the creative team for the way they portrayed rock music and the enthusiasm for playing music. And the message is "stand up for what you believe in". As a guitarist, this is level 10 for me. (Tenacious D is also good but I like SOR better because of its enthusiasm and the "educational layer".)
The best part of this movie is that it is a build-up movie. The kids built up Dewey's confidence in being a team player and making great music. Then Dewey built up each kid to find their true potential. They always say a great teacher can bring out something special in their students and and students can make a great teacher.
Fun fact: this movie is loosely based on a real program with the same name. I wish I knew about the School of Rock program when I was a kid, cuz as someone that's been a musician my whole life, I would've LOVED to have been a part of it
This movie is the reason why I picked up guitar. AC/DC is the driving force behind why I continue to play this day. Long Way To The Top was the song the hooked me into playing guitar. My favorite group.
The funniest part of this movie imo is when Summer sings. In truth Miranda Cosgrove is a very good singer. She sang the theme song for her own show iCarly.
Ahhh yes, a true "classic" of sorts lol, I remember in grade school when the library would give out book binders from this movie 🥹 great memories 👏🏽 love your content Addie 🙏🏽
I saw this in the theater when it was released and it's still a favorite. It's so uplifting and fun. Sadly Kevin Alexander Clark, the actor that played Freddy (his only role), died in 2021 at the age of 32 after being hit by a car while he was biking in Chicago (my hometown). Every time I rewatch this I think of him and I know that so many others do as well. You'll never be forgotten Kevin.
Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) invited Jack Black and 4 young musicians (12-14) to play “Mr. Crowley” for Tom’s mother Mary’s 100th birthday party a few months ago. Tom’s son Roman was on Guitar, Yoyoka on Drums, Roya Feiz on Bass and Hugo Weiss on the Keys.
Addie you should check out the reunion concert these guys did a few years ago. All these kids grown up and playing music with Jack Black was super cool to watch.
Hey addie love your reactions, may i suggest tenacious d and the pick of destiny for your next jack black reaction i think its a movie you would really enjoy 🙂
Not even kidding, one of my favorite movies ever. My friend and I quote it all the time. It’s so much better than it had any right to be. Btw, since you’re a theater person, the actor who plays Theo (the singer of No Vacancy) is Adam Pascal, the original Roger from Rent.
Summer is played by a very young Amanda Cosgrove, who went on to be "ICarly" A friend of mine took his kids to see her at an event and said that she was super nice, so totally respect for Amanda...AKA Summer!
Fun Fact: Miranda Cosgrove, who plays Summer Hathaway in the movie, can sing. She took about a 45-minute "bad singing" lesson to sing horrible for the song "Memory" when Jack Black's character was looking for backup singers. According to the Blu-ray commentary, she sang awesome for the movie's title song as a demonstration.
There's actually a School Of Rock for the kids in California. I'm not sure about other states. They learn an instrument or sing , and at one part of the school year or graduation they put on a show as a band.
after the movie came out School of Rock actually did a few gigs. several years later they got together & did a reunion gig which is on YT & needs to be seen.
Did you know: This movie was adapted into an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical. When I saw it on Broadway, before the show started a recorded message by Sir Andrew was played. He said something to the effect that audiences always want to know if the children on stage are actually playing their instruments. And he said they most definitely ARE playing live, which drew a huge roar from the audience even before the curtain went up. I think I like the movie a bit more, but the musical is definitely very good and worth seeking out.
0:09 Hey, Addie, the actor that plays Freddie, who's the drummer in the band that Jack's character formed as an "School Project", unfortunately had passed away Also, the actress that played Marla, the blonde girl who's one of the background singer's and one of the actors who played one of the kids that was a "Roadie", had become a couple in real-life
There actually is an after-school program named School of Rock. Nationwide. These kids are very good. Sometimes, they do covers that are better than the original!
The kid playing the drummer unfortunately died a few years ago in a traffic accident. And the kid playing the guitarist has had a lot of personal issues.
i actually rewatch this movie a lot and it was during one of my rewatches i went on twitter when the credits were playing just to hear the news of his passing. i was so stunned, such a shame. seemed like a cool dude and was a cool ass drummer.
I was going to definitely skip this one until I saw the trailer, which convinced my to watch. Boy, was I surprised! Joan Cusack was marvelous. Summer is played by Miranda Cosgrove. She later released her own album. Her voice may sound familiar because she played Margo in Despicable Me.
It was a big surprise, I went with my wife and we had no idea what to expect, definitely one of our favorites now, billboards of it were up all over PCH where we lived in 2003
Jack Black plays a similar role in 'High Fidelity' where he works in a record store owned by John Cusack. It's more a rom-com than SOR with a more 'mature' theme, but well worth a look.
You were the perfect reactor for this movie, you had ME (us) grinning ear to ear the whole time. I actually was at the filming of one of the scenes....it feels like two seconds ago...not twenty years! I don't know how Richard Linklatter pulled this story off because it's so absurd! But by gosh, did he do it! He had the perfect cast, that's for sure. Like you, I always love the way Joan Cusak tells the parents that the kids are missing, she's fantastic and very underrated, she totally matches Jack Black's performance. This is his best role, although he was incredible (and hilarious) in another Richard Linklater movie, "Bernie" with Shirley MaClaine. A true crime story! Worth watching off the channel! (that one flies under the radar currently......but it won't always!)

The scene in the van where he had Led Zeppelin playing almost didn't happen. Zeppelin is very well known for not letting anyone use their music, so the studio to Jack Black he had to ask the band. He got all the extra and cast from the Battle of the Bands scene to ask with him... and they got full permission to use the Immigrant Song.

So when the movie started the audience didn't know what film they were going to see. It was a great night with many laughs. Jack Black rocks!

This film is Directed by Richard Linklater and if you like this watch "Dazed and Confused" and "Before Sunrise" and all of his films. Written by White, "Grosse Point Blank" is amazing, staring John and Joan(principal) Cusack and "High Fidelity", a book written by Nick Hornby and translated to Chicago. I grew up in where the book is set. Loved the reaction. And thanks again for Allowing me to see it for the first time. There's more to everything in film.😊
@@treetopjones737 well, opinions differ. I grew up in the 80s but it was nothing like a John Hughes movie. I never traveled through time and certainly never knew any hot, female welders dreaming of a dance career... It's entertainment. Dazed and Confused is just a nostalgic, fictional look back at a by-gone era. If you don't like then ok, don't watch it again, but it's definitely not crap, there's a difference between fact and opinion.
I lived it, movie is a poor attempt at nostalgia. Breakfast Club wasn't made as nostalgia of the 80's, it is about teen HS stereotypes. And it was well written and acted, D & C. was not.
This movie is an absolute classic and nobody could have done a better job than Jack Black. I will watch any movie he's in because he's the epitome of fun and entertaining. And on top of that he's also a super nice person in real life so I will support him in anything he's part of. And RIP Kevin Clark (Freddy).

Nope. It happened during filming

This movie is literally just Jack Black telling kids to believe in themselves through music for 90 minutes. It's fantastic.
One of the most wholesome movies ever. The way Jack Black and the kids interact with each other is so effing heartwarming.
He's also giving them lifelong problems with authority and teaching them to lie to their parents lol
This is, perhaps, Jack Black's best role. Love this movie.
This and Tropic Thunder for me.
JB from Tenacious D for me.
Literally no one else could have done this role any better
Obviously none of you have seen him in The Jackal which is his most iconic role.

Lived the years Dazed & Confused is allegedly about, that movie is crap.
Jack Black played the Biker who kicked the dog off the bridge in Anchorman.
It's been a while since I watched this. Thanks for bringing it back and making it fresh! I liked Joan Cusack as the Principal, too.
Jack Black's finest role
Best Jack Black movie ever. Any time this pops up on TV, I sit and watch.
What about Shallow Hal
