I've had my EV6 just over 4 weeks, 1500miles so far and love it. I agree with Mats review. If I have one complaint is that it can be a bit dark on the inside, I have the GT Line RWD and no sunroof and it would be better with it. The styling is gorgeous, I am constantly being stopped by strangers asking what it is and complimenting the styling, I've never had that before ! Handling and ride is amazing, eco mode and it's calm and relaxing, Sport mode turns it into a hooligan. This car really handles twisty B roads well, its great fun and so calm and assured at the same time.
There's one HUGE reason why I've ordered the Ioniq 5 over the EV6. I get the Ioniq 5 with the premium ventilated front seats AND the heads up display. If you want the heads up display in the EV6 you have to buy the GT version (which is more expensive than the fully-specced Ioniq 5), which doesn't have the following: - Premium ventilated front seats - Only has 6 airbags instead of 7 - Memory function for the drivers seat - Electrically adjusted passenger seat in front - Electrically adjusted passenger seats in the back In the EV6 I'll have to choose between HUD and those things. In the Ioniq 5 I'm getting it all 🤷♂️
@@joaorodrigues_coaching Model 3 is not comparable. Model Y is. And EV6 is much better looking. And IONIQ. In fact, everything looks better than model3 and Y.
Is one thing to be aware of in the EV6 is that the front seats don't go down as much as you would expect, and headroom for taller people may be an issue. I got to sit in one recently at the LA Auto Show, and while I'm average height, I was hoping the seat could go lower than it does.

At last... A detailed review that actually covers the differences in the specification. Notably that many features are only available in the top Hyundai and some are still optional extras! Unfortunately, the paint options have been totally overlooked. The Hyundai mainly sells black, white or Silver... Or matt finishes. No red, blue, yellow or green. Also, the fastest Kia is much faster (0-60) than the top fastest Hyundai.
I like different elements of both cars. But if I had to pick one, it's the EV6. I do think that Hyundai needs an updated logo, though. Kia's updated logo is legions better than the old oval badge.
I didn't like the new Kia logo at first and I do see how it can look like completely different letters to the less discerning, but it's really grown on me!
i wasn't sold on the looks of the Ioniq 5 until i saw one yesterday at a motorway services. was a top spec one with the larger wheels, and i think it looked damned cool. i'd take one over the Kia.
Best exterior design is the KIA, for me. I agree that the Hyundai I agree that it is going to date quickly. I must say that I simply adore the exterior of the KIA. OTOH, I much prefer the interior of the Ioniq. Firstly, I love the pale colours available for the Hyundai and the spacious feeling. Nor am I impressed with the claustrophobic atmosphere instilled by the small windows and dark colours in the KIA. And the Ioniq 5 would get my money, no doubt because I am not that concerned with the view of the outside which I would see only infrequently, but you spend much more time looking at the interior. I know that KIA has extra cost interiors, but they are expensive and the only one I like (a bit) is over €1300 more.

I drove both, for extended test drives, and bought the EV6. Both are excellent EVs, but I preferred the EV6 style and features. That and some of the Ioniq's button placement is... odd.
Rarely comment on these videos, just enjoy the review for what they are, but had a good chuckle at your polite bollocking of that Ranger. Literally shows the type of people we have to contend with on the roads.
I so wanted to like the Hyundai but the simplicity with just having 1 battery in the Kia and the subsequent extra range then the Kia would be my choice , and what a knob in the Ranger !
I drove both and while I initially favoured the EV6, I now prefer the Ioniq 5 by far. It is shorter while offering more space in all directions inside. It does away with the middle console, which makes it feel airier. The sunroof is way bigger than on the EV6. Windows are bigger, offering more visibility all around. I sit higher, further helping visibility. There is more light inside the vehicle. The suspension is noticeably smoother than on the EV6, also the steering. The EV6 is supposed to be “sportier”, which might be interesting for the first couple of hours. Afterwards it’s just annoying. The only plus for the EV6 are the more comfy seats. But it feels kinda cramped inside despite it’s huge size. They really hit it out of the park with the Ioniq 5 in terms of optimisation towards practicality. The design is a matter of taste and I kinda like it. The color choices are horrible though, can’t even have a normal non-matte but metallic silver. However, compared to the competition at that price range it’s still a no brainer.
I am amazed at the number of differences between the 2 cars. You don’t get these type of difference in the VAG cars with the same underpinning. Sounds like the SAAB\GM relationship!
The top end model of the IONIQ5 here in Canada comes with a $5,000 optional package that gives a leather interior, and a bunch of other interior stuff like a sunroof, sunshades, ventilated seats, heated rear seats, and a wack of other stuff. Not sure what the Kia options are (my dealer locally refuses to sell EVs) but the IONIQ5 fully spec'd out is fantastic
To be fair, Matt was the one in the wrong. He didn't wait at the passing point when the Ranger was already on the single lane portion. He even admitted it then decided to be a smartarse about it.
The Hyundai Ioniq definitely scores more points in the style department but it also appears that the adjustable front and rear seats could add some extra points to the comfort side. Both are great vehicles overall and it's great to see the manufacturers get competitive in the electric space.
Now you're saying it does not have the Hyundai logo on the steering wheel. Only 4 dots. But do you actually know what the 4 dots stand for? It's morse code. The 4 dots stand for an H Really cool little detail by Ioniq 5
Subjective of course, but for me the design of the Ioniq 5 is classic. From the overall neat and balanced appearance to the interesting details. It get's better every time I see it. Superbly well done. For me, it's the best looking car on the road. But why are they so wide? For many city streets, car parks and country lanes in the UK, these will be a pain to drive.
That Hyundai is such a cool car. It’s so unique. I saw one on the road at night the other day and it’s such a departure from anything else on the road. Expensive for a Hyundai but a great looking car.
Test drove both and ordered an Ionic 5 as it just feels more comfortable and I prefer the lighter interior and better visibility. The EV6 is sportier to drive but the jet black interior makes it depressing inside after a while.
I don't like the EV6 inside because it is a black cavern and I already have an oven to bake cookies in. The only break is the tiny little sunroof. Move to the Ioniq and you get a choice of lighter colors inside, and of course, the huge sunroof. I ordered the Ioniq 5 Ultimate.
@@urbo42 My Ionic 5 order from October 2021 got cancelled in March as they couldn't get me a dual motor Ultimate so ended up with a Tesla Model Y which is absolutely amazing, especially with the black alloys, white interior trim and dark grey exterior.
The back of the Kia will age worse than the overall look of the Ioniq 5, same as the Lancia Delta aged better than weird 80s backends. The cables and silly bags go in the front ;)
The comparison we’ve all been waiting for... seeming the same car/platform but just proves how much autonomy both companies have to the final fine tuning. Personally the Hyundai stying and the Guigiaro Mk1 Golf influences seems a bit less contrived the Kia, BUT the handling would attract me to the Kia
Had my 5 for 3 months now, Its really easy to live with. Love it. Matt, how about you focus a bit more on apps in your reviews? My point is that you can do so mush more nowadays with your car from the comfort of your (where ever you are). How often does the carmaker update its apps, how well are they function from the start, and so on...
As a Korean, I want to sincerely support Hyundai. Hyundai Motor has been the object of ridicule in numerous movies and TV shows for decades, and there is probably a perception that it is a cheap car until now, but I feel good that it is gradually becoming a fun car while developing the N series. Of course, Hyundai Motor won the WRC and is the world's fifth-largest automobile manufacturer, but I hope it will be an automobile company that can give good memories, experiences, and impressions to many people in many countries rather than being represented by these indicators. I hope that Hyundai will always be next to them at the moment when some people took their first car, some people took a trip with their family, and others with their lovers.
Both look like great cars and I would take either over a Model 3. I love my Polestar 2 after 12 months especially now it's been upgraded to but the EV6 performance model coming out next year is tempting for sure.
Matt, having watched your and Rory Reid's (Auto Trader) reviews of the same two cars, I think that it would be great to get both of you on camera to discuss various motoring topics, or in some other kind of collaboration. You are different to each other and I don't know if the chemistry would work but you and Roy are currently two of the best British UA-cam motoring journalists out there, IMO.
Oh my days - The Ioniq 5 every time - It is gorgeous! I am not a boy racer and love to cruise. Give me that retro 80s LED look any day over the dark interior, mixed up wannabe from the parent shareholder.
Doesn’t the Ioniq 5 come with a sunroof in the UK? As he said in the vid? We ordered the top version that comes standard with a panoramic sunroof (vision roof) in Denmark.
@@MEMOAN84 Exactly. A bit unfair to point out that the Ioniq 5 doesn't have a sunroof, compared to the EV6. He could equally well have pointed out that the Ev6 doesn't come with a panoramic glass roof (much nicer, imo), compared to the Ioniq 5.
@@IngemarGustafsson Looking the site of Hyundai UK it's pretty clear that it doesn`t offer any type of sunroof neither panoramic roof, they put pictures of the model with the panoramic roof but with a big disclaimer that is not the UK model and the roof is not available there. Also Hyundai doesn`t offer the light interior in UK wich I think suits best in the Ioniq
I've also recently seen the Ioniq5 IRL and I, too, pretty much had my brains blown seeing how huge it really is. The design looks compact but it's ONLY the looks. They've really outdone themselves. I'm actually considering getting it now. Haven't seen the EV6 yet, though and I gotta see if the back seat drawbacks don't bother me personally.
It is bigger than a Tucson but it looks like a normal hatchback because it has the same proportions just enlarged : ex when seeing it in photos you may think it's a hatchback with 16 or 17 inch wheels but in reality the 2 wheel options are 19 and 20 inch.

Both cars are top notch both look amazing and both are out of my price range.
Both cars look great, well thought out designs. I especially love the Ioniq, it reminds me a lot of the Mk8 Civic.
ua-cam.com/video/fw9huR74kAI/v-deo.html i
The first time I saw the Ioniq 5 my first thought was that it was the new Delta Integrale! Love both designs. Top of the charts for EV's.
ua-cam.com/video/fw9huR74kAI/v-deo.html ii
The korean designers are really involving! :0
And it teally reminds me of the lagendary intergrale just like mat told.
Except the fact that they got former European designers to do the job.
@@neeljavia2965 oh well
@@Rateswar07 The kia stinger was developed by an ex bmw head.
No wonder the cars so good.
One is more futuristic and one is more sporty
Four dots = H in morse code.
I am amazed at the number of differences between the 2 cars. You don’t get these type of difference in the VAG cars with the same underpinning. Sounds like the SAAB\GM relationship!
Do they belong to the same company?
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_Motor_Group
The LED lights on the back on the Hyundai...Best ive seen. Overall I really love the design on the Hyundai.
You did well with that Ranger driver Mat! I would have been incandescent with righteous indignation!
To be fair, Matt was the one in the wrong. He didn't wait at the passing point when the Ranger was already on the single lane portion. He even admitted it then decided to be a smartarse about it.
Lancia Delta was my dreamcar as a kid. So definitely the IONIQ 5 :D So Cool!
"I thought this was an off roader", that Ford driver is so cautious 😂 like what the heck
what was it the guy said? can't quite make it out
Finally, after watching every review on UA-cam. I put my deposit down for the IONIQ5, shooting brake grey, premium & 73kwh… delighted!
What are you paying?
@@peterhv6099 £340 a month, a bit expensive but I like cool things! 😂
The Hyundai Ioniq definitely scores more points in the style department but it also appears that the adjustable front and rear seats could add some extra points to the comfort side. Both are great vehicles overall and it's great to see the manufacturers get competitive in the electric space.
kia ev6 is by far the nicest looking in my opinion! I'm loving it
Now you're saying it does not have the Hyundai logo on the steering wheel. Only 4 dots.
But do you actually know what the 4 dots stand for?
It's morse code. The 4 dots stand for an H
Really cool little detail by Ioniq 5
Matt wanted to have a fight with the Ranger driver 🤣
Subjective of course, but for me the design of the Ioniq 5 is classic. From the overall neat and balanced appearance to the interesting details. It get's better every time I see it. Superbly well done. For me, it's the best looking car on the road. But why are they so wide? For many city streets, car parks and country lanes in the UK, these will be a pain to drive.
That Hyundai is such a cool car. It’s so unique. I saw one on the road at night the other day and it’s such a departure from anything else on the road. Expensive for a Hyundai but a great looking car.
It was a great review for people who think about purchasing EVs.
Thanks Matt.
Time to see if Mat's outcome is different to Rory's 🤣🤣
Both Mat & Rory have their own unique styles

watson is a stupid clown compared to rory
@@georgeionescu6425 Here comes the boomers.
@@neeljavia2965 what is boomers?
In my opinion all car companies should add an option to choose between physical buttons and a touch screen.
That’s quite dumb

Why?
Had my 5 for 3 months now, Its really easy to live with. Love it. Matt, how about you focus a bit more on apps in your reviews? My point is that you can do so mush more nowadays with your car from the comfort of your (where ever you are). How often does the carmaker update its apps, how well are they function from the start, and so on...

I can remember that i suggested this video in a comment of a carwow video before and now its true. Thanks for doing this review carwow
Hyundais are great cars I've owned 3 elantras and loved them all still have my 2017 thinking about getting a Santa fe next
I've owned my Hyundai Ioniq 5 for 6 months now and I love to drive it everyday. Kia EV6 does look slick but it's Hyundai for me!!
Koa looks great for me but I dislike the back. I've only seen it on YT and once behind it. Maybe it looks better standing etc
Looking to go with one of these two and then this vid pops up on my feed. Carwow reads my mind again!

I want the EV6 but with the external looks of the Ioniq 5.
Car 2 Car charging is not pointless...really useful in an emergency situation!
USB-A should never go away, especially for a power port. You can have your usb c or lightning or next-gen connector on your device. It's future proof.
Can you do a drag race between low powered city cars, like Dacia Sandero, Fiat Panda and opel corsa?
ua-cam.com/video/fw9huR74kAI/v-deo.html ii
@Kzn Nzn agreed, But it would be something different
Thanks mat. This was exactly what i was waiting for 👍
Enjoy!
Both look like great cars and I would take either over a Model 3. I love my Polestar 2 after 12 months especially now it's been upgraded to but the EV6 performance model coming out next year is tempting for sure.
“next year”
the comparison for tesla is the model Y, not the model 3.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 and the Kia EV6 are like cousins. There are so many things similar!
And also the 4 dots mean H for Hyundai in morph code
I like the space of the ioniq but the styling of the KIA.
Just saw my first IONIQ5 on a tow truck here in Sydney. It looks insane in person.
Matt, having watched your and Rory Reid's (Auto Trader) reviews of the same two cars, I think that it would be great to get both of you on camera to discuss various motoring topics, or in some other kind of collaboration. You are different to each other and I don't know if the chemistry would work but you and Roy are currently two of the best British UA-cam motoring journalists out there, IMO.
ua-cam.com/video/fw9huR74kAI/v-deo.html
In the test of Europe you can get Kia with 585 hp in a GT version, that’s nuts!!
Oh my days - The Ioniq 5 every time - It is gorgeous! I am not a boy racer and love to cruise. Give me that retro 80s LED look any day over the dark interior, mixed up wannabe from the parent shareholder.
Drove ev6 today. Drives nice very quick. Some cheap plastics inside but not that bad.
Honestly, the Ioniq-5 looks like a perfect mix of near-future cars and concept cars of like the '80s
ua-cam.com/video/fw9huR74kAI/v-deo.html i
I really like the looks
Great review, don't forget forget Kia has a 7 year warranty vs Hyundai 5.
Nice video carwow team. But I would have loved to hear about the safety rating as well of these two cars.Thank you so much for the upload.Loved it😍

I have an EV6 and I think it is a great car! I get better mileage than listed and it is faster than advertised, etc.
A Talbot Horizon (Plymouth/ dodge Omni) mixed with a Lancia Delta. But main design line reminds a Talbot Horizon.
Doesn’t the Ioniq 5 come with a sunroof in the UK? As he said in the vid? We ordered the top version that comes standard with a panoramic sunroof (vision roof) in Denmark.
Pretty sure it is only a panoramic roof. Not a sunroof, meaning that you can’t “open” it.
@@inflicts8217
Nonetheless it’s much bigger than the one in EV6. = more light and better view.
Don’t think u can spec the 5 with a panoramic roof here in the uk ,
@@IngemarGustafsson Looking the site of Hyundai UK it's pretty clear that it doesn`t offer any type of sunroof neither panoramic roof, they put pictures of the model with the panoramic roof but with a big disclaimer that is not the UK model and the roof is not available there.
Also Hyundai doesn`t offer the light interior in UK wich I think suits best in the Ioniq
The more i see the ev6 more i like it but ioniq 5 is something i get used to now
ua-cam.com/video/fw9huR74kAI/v-deo.html i
I've also recently seen the Ioniq5 IRL and I, too, pretty much had my brains blown seeing how huge it really is. The design looks compact but it's ONLY the looks. They've really outdone themselves. I'm actually considering getting it now. Haven't seen the EV6 yet, though and I gotta see if the back seat drawbacks don't bother me personally.
Think they look cheap and nasty, especially inside.
It is bigger than a Tucson but it looks like a normal hatchback because it has the same proportions just enlarged : ex when seeing it in photos you may think it's a hatchback with 16 or 17 inch wheels but in reality the 2 wheel options are 19 and 20 inch.
Back seats don't bother me either. I may have someone in the back seat once or twice a month
I can't stand SUV/Offroad drivers who can't be bothered to use their side of the road or touch the grass a little. Thanks for advising him.
Exterior: Ioniq 5 (love the modern vintage) | Interior: EV 6 (more practical)
0:25 You are EMMA WATSON????
Hyundai for me looks amazing
Make a review of the new Sportage pls!
So glad you've done this comparison Matt!
