i was 15 years old picking up my girlfriend who was volunteering at the local goodwill. I was bored waiting so started rummaging through records on a shelf. Came across an album still in the shrink wrap. Jethro Tull Aqualung. Paid a dollar for it. Best deal ever. went home and played it 4 times through. Couldn't believe what i was hearing . Now I'm 62 and he still blows my mind.
For comments like that, I love youtube.
Possibly one of the greatest live tracks I've ever seen.
Ian Anderson and Martin Barre totally mesmerising.
You my friend..... Could not have said it better
I'm 68 on a bad day I listen to this is better than pain medicine
You got your driver's license when this puppy came out. Same here. The song means a lot to Boomers like us.
Must be the best live version on UA-cam. Absolutely brilliant. MB on great form.
A rock frontman and showman of the rarest breed.
Indeed.
I agree, saw them in San Antonio, 1975, it was magical show 🎉🎊🎊🔥🔥🔥🔥🪅🎶🎶🎵🎸🌎
Martin Barre really had the fire that night . Great to see . Ian is a treasure .
Awesome here folks.
One of the best solos in rock or any music by Martin Barre at about 4 minutes.
Wow!! Still gets ma every time after what? 45 years or more of loving Ian and Tull in all it's incarnations.
Ian has never rested on his laurels.
Awesome
Sure, if one ever wished to hear Jimmy Page (the terrific riff) and Ritchie Blackmore (the lightning speed solo) playing together on one track - one cannot ask for more than this one.
AGREE,Should ve at top 10 EVER 👍MARTIN 🙏!!!
@@gustavopardiplaz4301 awesome
He really killed this song. Sounds incredible, especially in headphones
These are Standards of Progressive Rock...Masters !...
Saw this tour at Wembley Arena, May '82. Met all the guys backstage after the show along with Brian May. Great blokes, and always an astounishing band. Brilliant!
JETHRO TULL war eine großartige Band
Martin Barre, so an underrated guitarist! But, one of the best!
I agree he cut loose on this !! So many never got recognized as being at the top of their trade !! Schenker- Nugent- Richrath - Giraldo and on & on & on
I'll never get enough of JT live. Mr. Barre should be on every list of top guitarists.
Martin Barre is amazing.
One of the best rock songs ever
Anu thing
The best album ever in my opinion
LOL!😂
Lol!😂
40 years ago.....Everything has changed on this planet....Except your songs !! Love you !!
Ian Anderson hatte eine großartige Stimme
One of the best song from Jethro Tull.
THE BEST SONG FROM JETHRO TULL!!
For me Locomotiv Breath.
Saw Ian Anderson in NZ a few years back still bouncing around on stage like it was the 70s, amazing stamina!!!!
but sounds like a croaking dog and talks too much
Our band, Storm, opened up for Tull in 1970, in Miami, Fl. I'll never forget it.
Wow!!!! That’s fantastic!
FORTY ONE Years ago.... Feels like yeaterday.... OMG.... Still brilliant. Thank You Ian! For it all....
I saw them in Chicago 1977. BEST CONCERT Ever! I was lucky enough to have a stagehand in the family and went to at least 100 concerts. Ian Anderson put on a show like no other. Love them!
LEAVING MEMPHIS COLISEUM IN 76 A LIMO PULLED UP WITH LIGHT ON IN BACK. IT WAS THEM!! WE RODE WITH LIGHTS ON FOR A WHILE
.IAN SAW ME!!. THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE
Had this album and many more Jethro Tull records back in the 1970s.
Saw them twice. ‘69 & ‘72.
Vancouver
I still listen to those old records
@@lawrencedares8853 Saw them in 1980, The A tour, and one other time in the nineties..
This is Power 🖤👍
Yo do did we. Thick as a Brick only cost $6.00 dollars to get in
Two weeks after this concert I fell in love with a redhead while we danced to Aqualung in my mother-in-laws deli on Long Island.
If you didn’t see these guys in the early days, I’m truly sorry. It was the event of all time.
Dragonfly
Absolutely brilliant. I saw them on the same tour in 1982 just a few months before and this is just how I remember them. Ian Anderson had the entire audience in his hand all show. - great energy. They ended with this song and came back and did Locomotive Breath for an encore. One of my favorite concerts of all time. The band Saga opened that night if anyone remembers them.
I saw them in '93 with my best friend her favorite was "Locomotive Breath" and mine was "Crossed Eyed Mary" but come on it was spectacular feel so privileged to be there
Martin Barre is an absolute beast!
O Dio miooo...che BELLEZZA ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
TULL ,,,,,,, OMG ….. how many incredible tracks have these guys made !!!!! LIVE IS A THRILL TO BEHOLD ,,,, just INCREDIBLE!!!!!! Gx
Martin barre uno dei più grandi chitarristi della storia del rock mondiale .
We where very lucky to have lived in this time of musical creativenes. And to think they are releasing a NEW album this fall 2020!
Jethro Tull and Yes are my all-time favorites. Their early years showed genius followed by jaw-dropping talent progression.
I agree
1st 5 Jethro Tull LPs all deliciously different and rival 1st 5 LPs of any group . One of the great live groups
I remember my pa's softly spoken and eloquent words when he introduced me to Jethro Tull:
"Some mad fucking Scotsman with a flute"
Been my favourite band ever since.
Wonderful! I’m a 68 year old mad fucking Scotsman who has loved them since they began.
Great!!!
You could also say Billy Connolly is "some mad fucking Scotsman"..... and I'd totally agree....
A Bottle of Scotch & Billy.
Now. That's a night indoors by the fire..... with the one you love.
(Another bottle of scotch.) (Sorry Pam.)
@@davidmitchell1959 I am a 73 mad fucking Scotsman, and I will love them till I die.
That's priceless
The musicians and Ian ,of course , are all excellent! They really rock.
On one occasion Jethro Tull came to my land, Asturias, in the north of Spain, and I found out about the event after it had happened, I still regret missing that concert. Great Jethro Tull great Ian Anderson... I've been listening to and admiring them all my life and I've never been able to see them live.
Anderson the unassailable entertainer and front man. Genius.
Just wonderful! I play Jethro Tull and Ian Anderson every day!
Sorry, this show happened on the 28th May 1982 in Dortmund Westfalenhalle , but it was aired on the 10th of July 1982 on ZDF Channel, Saturday the day before the World Cup final 1982 in Madrid (I watched both Rockpop in Concert and the World Cup Final).
He is the Mozart of modern music. A prolific genius. Why is this man a knight?
It's kinda funny that a band famous for it's flute-wielding frontman is probably best known for a song with no flute.
Tull was one of my favorites way back as a tween. Loved "Thick As A Brick" the entire album track. Blows my mind that Ian is Rick Grimes' father-in-law.
I'm a fan from Holland since the beginning (I'm from 1953)! I consider "Stand Up" as one of their best albums.
I personally liked Benefit the best!
Stand Up is also my favourite. All of the first half dozen are gems.

WOW ! those were the times , it is indeed one of the best rock songs ever, I never got tired of it.
Dopo un mezzo secolo Jethro Tull sono di attualità e di Bravura Cosmica.❤❤❤
❤
Such a great great great performance !!!!
EVEN AFTER 50 YRS STILL GIVES ME CHILLS
rush
They better play this at my funeral or I am not dying.
Maravilloso!!!
Hope we die together! Or maybe not. 😊
😂😂
Demasiado joven para morir, demasiado viejo para el rock
Good one! I'll borrow it and t/y!
I’ve seen Tull and/or Ian in concert about 25x between 1982-2010... stopped attending after Martin was dropped from the band’s lineup (as he is still my #1 Guitar Hero of all time!).
Absolutely loved Ian’s “recent” solo efforts... RD and TSLOB.
My first show was in Philadelphia Oct’82... about three months after this live clip. Absolutely unforgettable!
What is the German crowd chanting there at the end??
First let me say I’m 65 yo but this brings me right back to me tripping my balls off and watching Ian play Boston Garden in 70s.Amazing 🤯
I've always felt the song Aqualung was a 2 part narrative . The manic, loud playing representing the public's disgust for a homeless man , tempered by a softer , quieter section representing understanding and sympathy .
Some band's songs all sound pretty much the same. Tull has an enormous and varied catalog which always had many sides: loud and soft, electric and acoustic, fast and slow, heavy rock and soft ballads, and the lyrics are always interesting be they heavy and thought provoking or whimsical. I've been to something like 40 concerts starting with Passion Play in 1973 with the concert shirts to prove it. And I've met Ian twice: once behind the concert venue in Toledo where he autographed my Thick as a Brick shirt and once on stage at a Rubbing Elbows concert where I got to ask him questions between songs and he autographed my codpiece...but that's another story. Their concerts were always extremely entertaining, exceptional musicians is their various lineups, and never ever disappointed!
Easily the best version on UA-cam! Perfection!
You have to see them in the 70s is awesome live 👍👍👍👍👍👌👌🤝🤝🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 amazing
One of the nicest rock stars ive ever met Purdue University, after the 4 time i saw him just a real person but don't remember the whole night 😂😂
In 76?77? I saw Jethro Tull at Ft. Campbell, KY. Army supplied a long line up, soul, rock, Barbie Benton, and so on. He was the last act up, didn't start until after midnight. He and his band stayed and played for 3, maybe 4 hours, just happy to be there with us. Even though we were out in a grass field it felt like we were sitting in his back yard just watching them jam together. BEST DAMNED CONCERT EVER!
Thank you for sharing your life with us that night... John
Wow! You saw Barbie Benton!
@@bobphillips3222 Yes, Hugh Hefner was with her on stage, Shaka Khan and others played that night also. Started at 8pm, finished about 3-4am. There was a whole line-up for the soldiers, country, soul, rock,
Thank you for your Service John😊 Hubby was a Medic in the Army😊 those were good days and fond Memories. I name my Son after Ian. Micah Ian❤ blessings
Musical genius, multi generational lyrics , saw him live in 1984 Vancouver wow
Génial merci beaucoup pour un retour nostalgique
Salvation a la mode and a cup of tea. Theses are lyrics I've never forgot! 50 odd years and I'm still rocking out.
Tull fan for life, seen them 28 times, even met them in newhaven CT. Thanks to my girlfriend at the time, Megan!
Una Mitica Meraviglia ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wow, what a great live performance of this classic song one of my all-time favorites I just found out recently Ian and Anderson‘s son-in-law is Andrew Lincoln, who plays Rick Grimes on the TV show The Walking Dead I thought that was pretty cool😎👍
Incredible music 🎶🎵... Love Jethro Tull...and that guitar 🎸 player....phew was that great...🌷
Jethro Tull haben wir auch in Hamburg gesehen
JT helped me through my teenage years ✌️💪🏻💙💚🖤 I saw him Twice in the 70’s LA Forum ❤

One of the best songs ever written..🃏
Know one like them ever or since.don't know if we're family or not but I know there ain't many kemler so I'll just say hey cousin
Fantastici! Meravigliosi, poetici, straordinari... grazie, grazie infinite! 🌈
A great version with excellent camera shots.
My good friend Ray loved this band so much. I saw them in concert two or three times. I remember War Child was quite exquisite.
Wow...chills....such an unbelievable tune
Martin Barre…damn dude can shred. One of my all time favorite solos.
Jethro Tull is the best ! True genius 😎
How in the world is JT not in the Rock n roll hall of fame????
Just because a band is good doesn't qualify them . The band had to have proven that they were perfectly attuned to the time that they performed . They had to prove to be a force for the preservation of Rock and Roll . JT ,although exceptional as a band , did not influence the direction of Rock and Roll .
@@sentry8535 Jethro Tull was heavily influential on good rock / metal bands, but not on mainstream rock I suppose, even though the Eagles and other popular rock bands ripped them off.
@@3toadbroth Jethro Tull Are one of the most influences in the proggressive rock that sound Make Bands Sound like The Power metal and more
@@3toadbroth I first heard about Tull through Bruce Dickinson and Steve Harris of Iron Maiden in the early 1980s, and Steve Harris brought me to Wishbone Ash. Tull and Ash became my favorite progressive rock bands.
@@kylewinward8847 You might like the band Wytch Hazel. They are a newer metal band that also cites Tull and Ash as some of their inspirations, I think they're great. I definitely like Tull's style of prog rock much more than the other stuff that was happening in the 70's, i.e. freaking out with synthesizers with no mathematical / musical foundation.
Absolutely awesome 👏 👏👏
Love this I've got all Jethro tull 😊
I love this song!
Incredible! Talk about pouring yourself into a song...
I saw them i'm Madrid - Best of My life 🙏☝️
Sin duda alguna..

Fenomen
Tull's magnum opus and you'll never hear a finer live version that this.
Still remember when this song first came out
I was -7 years old, so I don't quite remember it lol.
Loved crest of a knave.
Aqualung obra maestra de este grupo Irlandes, tuve la suerte de verlos en concierto en Madrid años 80 y en Rumania ( Sibiù) en los años 2000. Sus discos obligados en mi colecciòn, otro grupo que marcò mi juventud.
Dear Lord, Martin Barre is one of the greatest! Soooo Underrated!!!!
Mitico brano nel 71 spopola in Olanda ovunque si ascoltava.sono eterni come i più grandi del rock mondiale.Dainese Aldo.
Dos meses antes les vi en directo en Madrid. Impresionante, bravos!!
