What's even funnier is that a member of one of the bands attending the awards was heard to have asked......what are they gonna do now, start touring with Iron Maiden?😅 Love Tull!
@@mackydog99 Maiden would have had them on the show like a shot. Both Bruce Dickinson and Steve Harris are huge Tull fans (and you can see the influence). Indeed the split which led to Dickinson leaving in the early 90s was that he wanted to go down a more Tull influenced direction whilst Harris wanted to go back to the stripped down sound Maiden had started out with.
I had an aunt who went on family vacations with us. Her & I would always be the last family members to go to bed. We'd play cards, drink & listen to abbey road & aqualung til the wee hours in the early to mid 70's. Thanks aunt Rita. I'll always remember those good times.
Ich war 17 Jahre alt als ich Jethro Tull das erste mal live in der Nibelungen Halle in Passau gesehen habe, bin jetzt 60 Jahre alt und würde wieder auf jedes Konzert gehen!
After 3 brutal combat tours in Vietnam my brain and my soul were searching for an answer. Jethro Tull and Ian Anderson led me thru the darkness and helped me out of the jungle that I was lost in. It still rely on these lyrics and music to take me away. I finally have an answer.
I was really glad when they got inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. A lot of people said they didn't deserve it because they weren't rock & roll, but they couldn't be more wrong. They are the epitomy of rock & roll. Their musical arrangements, their music , their concerts songs and lyrics it's all rock & roll. Ian's talent with that flute can not be matched even by guys like Kenny G and others like him. It's out of this world. Locomotive Breath is one of my favorite Tull songs.
Being a flute player myself……I’d say there is no style quite like Ian’s ! Locomotive Breath being a tough piece to play with such energy! Martin Barre an incredible guitarist ! The entire band being superb musicians and bringing such creativity to Jethro Tull !
On a warm summer night in the early 1980's I was pulling into the parking lot of Purdue North Central, for a nightly class when Ian Anderson started talking on the radio. Two hours later I was still in my car listening to him...
I saw them either in 1981 or 1982 somewhere in Germany. I was stationed there. It was general admission so when they opened the doors to get in we ran and ended up in the front row in front of the stage. I remember there was a guy with blond hair playing an electric violin that was pretty amazing. After the concert, we went into a restaurant on the other side of the parking lot. We figured we would get something to eat while waiting for all the traffic to calm down. There weren't many people in the restaurant but noticed after we were there for a few minutes they stopped letting anyone else in. That's when the band came in and sat down not too far from us. We said hi to them as they walked by but did not bother them after that.
...I remember being the the barracks in Germany (1972-73) and hearing this, Aqualung, etc. blasted on stereos night & day on weekends...an still being able to sleep at night through the 'battle of the stereos'...great memories!!!
68 years old here. Used to smoke up and listen to these guys a lot. I have Thick As A Brick on CD and slap it into my portable player and listen to it when I'm washing the car sometimes. Probably drives the neighbours a little crazy but I don't care. Brings back a lot of memories.
There is NO song better than the extended version of Locomotive Breath. I graduated from high school in 72. Started out listening to it on an 8 track, now, 52 years later, I’m still streaming the hell out of it.
fyi: Jethro Tull was an English agriculturist from Berkshire who helped to bring about the British Agricultural Revolution of the 18th century, born 1674. He perfected a horse-drawn seed drill in 1701 that economically sowed the seeds in neat rows, and later developed a horse-drawn hoe.
This is amazing to watch all those people loving life .In a mass crowd jumping up and down no one being offended or having there toes stepped on .How I long for the old America.
I was fortunate to see them during the Aqualung and Thick as a Brick tours - truly amazing shows. Definitely should be honored in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
I'd listen this show this yesterday evening. Absolutely amazing performance. Yesterday? Oh, it was not yesterday, it's 41 Years ago I watched this on TV, time is running so fast.ve
I remember this, we had 4 8 track tapes when 4 of us drove from Connecticut to northern Maine in 1971 the day after we graduated from high school. This was one of those tapes.
Ian and his mates, are doing what they were born to do. And it’s nothing short of amazing. Been a fan since I was 15 in 1970. It’s 2023 , still pinching myself.
I only had the opportunity to see Jethro Tull once live in concert. But that one time was enough for me to know that few bands are as good live, in concert. Ian Anderson and Jethro Tull are masters of theatre. Seeing them live was an unforgettable experience.
I grew up with these guys. I loved the unconventional style…a Rock and Role band with a flute? Extra points because my wife was a flute player. Bose 901’s were rocking the windows at home. I still can’t believe we never blew them out. Thank you so much for the great memories.
Found Jethro Tull in college. Have several albums, 72 now, still sneak a loud listen when i need a pick-up. Just a great band. PS: don't know who was more fun to watch, Ian or Joe Cocker. 😊
I saw Cocker live in concert it was awesome. Outdoors in '78 @17 yrs old. Tripping on acid made his movements even crazier. The best show I'll never forget it. Wishing I'd seen Tull.
@@susieq2n60a spastic Cocker, a Susie on acid. Helluva combination. One thing we had was great weed & hash and great music. Didn't Credence do the Susie Q song? Take care ❤
Ian is such a delightful madman - a great gift to music. Got to see them only once and while the acoustics of the venue were atrocious, the performance energy was 100%
He played this in Hartford Connecticut back in the late 70s and he threw the balloons out there just as he did hear one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen
Now 70, this was my music when younger! Saw them perform live in '72 - Ian Anderson is crazy wonderful.
I bet it's still your music to this day too. I'm 52 and there's nothing better than these guys. They have composed some absolute masterpieces
😮❤
I'm 74. Saw them in 1972, Oakland Collision. The Eagles opened!!
Tru that 👍😎
I've been listening to Tull since I was a teen...my first Tull album was "Stand Up"...I'm 70 years old and still listen to Jethro Tull!!
Anyone that ROCKS the flute 🪈 is impressive....Ian brings it to mastery level
Jethro Tull should obsoletely be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. How other blues and rap performers are in ahead of this band is criminal.
coz the hall of of fame is rigged.
Needs a PUSH to get em there..how they aren't is beyond reason. He is genius in story telling through the best music out there...!
Their too good and a class act to be in the RRHF. RRHF is a joke.
You
Mean they're not?
The rock and roll hall of fame is irrelevant, thank you Cher for calling them out.
Went to 3 Tull concerts back in the day. Nothing compares nowadays
What about Beyonce???
Everyone has heard the old saying "ls there no end to this man's talent?" It fits lan Anderson very well!!! Love Jethro Tull!!!
Fortunate enough to see them once. Great concert and performance! Jethro Tull ROCKS!
Yep .old ànd google.
Goodie
Ian is 1 of the most intelligent people I've ever listened to.
😊

Purportedly when Metallica did win a Grammy a few years later, James Hetfield said they were glad Jethro Tull didn't release an album that year.

Me too, Gary. I got to see Tull doing the Aqualung Tour. What a band. And Anderson, What a genius!
Ellos son atemporales.
So amazing, full of energy, what drums and flute....I remember this song so many years..when I was in school...Ian is for ever...
So full of satanic messaging.
so lucky to have grown up in these times.all the bands of the era were the greates performers.ever.

Bring back the 70's

Days when you went to gigs to enjoy being part of the moment, rather than being surrounded by people playing with their phones!
Oh grow up silly 😅 Enjoy the music.
You kids get off my lawn!!!!
Oh boy! Speak truth and the phone addicts bite!
Thank you

Opened for black sabbath. Had a great time
