OUTSTANDING VIDEO!!!!!! Excellent questions, to-the-point answers clearly spoken, and obviously very informed and knowledgeable.
Very excellent video!!! Great questions no BS and right to the point. Thank you so much!!!
We replaced the ugly laminate with a beautiful vinyl plank flooring at Floor & Decor at around $3.00 per Sq ft, and we love it. We were going to buy tile, but when our friend told us about it, we were sold!
Did you do it yourself? Or have it installed?
We have had vinyl plank flooring installed in the last 3 homes we have owned. It is fantastic! Easiest floor ever to care for! We bought the higher priced stuff and it was worth it! If you have pets or kids, it is the best! Have had no damage of any type. We swept or vacuumed them regularly. Occasionally, mopped with a damp sponge mop. They still look great! Of course, we use common sense in moving furniture by placing “moving men” disks under the feet of whatever is being moved. And for seniors, it is easier on your joints than other hard floors, like tile.
What brand did you guys go with for vinyl plank? I am trying to decide between nucore-lifeproof-duralux-corelux lol too confusing
@@josenegrete3694 We used Aduramax by Mannington.it is awesome, both in wearability and appearance.
Thank you! Very helpful.
Thank you, very informative video. Learnt alot will definitely think about using vinyl plank flooring now
Most vinyl plank floating floor cores today are 70% limestone and 30% pvc, but there are still a few that are mostly PVC, the next thing coming is magnesium oxide MGO floors which use melamine wear-layer similar to laminate but water and fire proof.
I can’t ignore the Flavor Flav portrait on the wall. 🤟🤣
1st thing I saw.
But can anyone tell me what that Flav painting is from? It was from a particular TV show he was on when he wore that "horny" hat.
Nice Alec Monopoly beside it.
Diamond Durley I know.
Reminded me of “Q Shaman” who is now in jail for helping raid the capitol building on Jan 6th.
Huge words, huge help, thanks my man.
Thank you, the very questions I needed answered.
Thank you for this...We had a water overflow from upstairs bathroom and we have been back and forth with insiramce and contractors about flooring. One of the issies that came up was labor cost for carpet install. Someone had suggested vinyl flooring but didn't know too much about it
You might want to consider that vinyl plank can off gas toxic VOCs.
insiramce?
Its waterproof but caulk the perimeter to stop water from getting under it.
Good idea. Thanks!
Great info here. Thanks!
Just had 1300 SF of Provenza Maxcore Concorde Oak in a color called Willow Wisp installed. Absolutely love it! Glad I did not get carpet. Will need to put a few strategic rugs down to keep echo down.
I just finished having Provenza Uptown Chic installed in my 3500 sq ft. home. I completely avoided the retailer "designer" rip off experience. The wholesaler, distributor, and the installer said it was a great product, especially for the price. None of them had a hidden agenda in pushing anything. Next to top end for a much better price. Really great value for me as I looking for really good quality but at a really good price.
Might consider it .. My solid wood hasn't worn well with having a large patio door to front of my apartment , moisture etc..Had planned move but traumatic for sis .. Few month when puppy matures
You can put a chair with casters on vinyl plank flooring and heavy furniture dents it even with a core substrate of cement. Also Mohawk and Quick-Step came out with Waterproof Laminate/petproof and it is beautiful and looks like real wood
Yes! I’ve just noticed that our sofa has left little dents in our new lvp flooring.
That is why I used heavy duty thick felt pads from HD. For the grand piano (a very heavy piece weighing over 1,000 lb) I additionally used wooden cups made for the wheels and put the felt pads under them. No dents. My strong recommendation is to puchase heavy duty felt pads for all pressure points for LVP. By the way wood dents even easier.
I did a deep dive into LVP products and found that the product from MODIN was far better than anything out there. Installed it in the kitchen, powder room and laundry room. After one year the stuff still looks great! Love this stuff. It is heads and tails better than anything you can buy at the big box stores or flooring stores.
Besides you who handles the modin brand and why is it better?
@@M_Ladd It is Modin by Flooret. Only available onlkne. Good product.
Is it 70% limestone?
Can you put electric under floor heating under vinyl plank in a bathroom renovation?
If you're on a concrete slab, is it better to do glue down or floating?
I put in Cortec Pro Premium LVP SPC (not WPC) in my basement gym. This is commercial grade. I got a sample and dropped weights on it, ran scratch tests - and nothing happened. Bullet proof. Waterproof. Limited life time residential warranty. I still added a rubber mat for comfort and extra protection in the center of the room. The 3D texture printing the use makes this look and feel like real wood. Note if I had put this in my main floor I would have gone for WPC which has a softer feel.
Did LVP through out my house with area rugs on top in places, live in the country with red dirt with 3 dogs, it’s very easy to clean, it was economical.
Thank you. great information.
What kind of padding is best?
@ken ...Can vinyl plank flooring (glue down be installed over LAMINATE flooring? I see that you said yes, it can over ceramic but wondering can I remove quarter rounds and install vinyl flooring over laminate flooring. Thanks in advance 🤗
I'm sure I'll get laughed at, but I bought the most expensive Home Depot had. Thumbs up on 90%. My main issue is my floor was not completely flat and you can hear some sound in in just a few areas when walking. I knew that going in, so it's not that big a deal. This is some low maintenance, durable stuff. Everything has it's ups and downs.
I did the same thing (Lifeproof) and also have the same issue since the concrete underneath was not totally even. So I get little noise in a couple of places. However, I love this floor and I'm glad I paid the extra $$ for top quality. I've had no problems with scratching but all furniture has felt pads (as recommended) and I also live alone with no pets so there's not a lot of wear and tear. I think this floor will outlast me.
@@tericoulter4426 Yes, Lifeproof. Good for you. A year later and all is very well. Best decision we made. One friend had his installer use 21 bags of leveling compound for a perfectly flat floor. I guess I could have done that, but the areas I know of are just not many. Despite that extremely minor issue, it beats the carpet we had and is so easy to deal with.
FYI: Paying to get a perfectly level floor can cost you thousands depending on the total area, material, time required, and how uneven your base surface is.. By the way LVP will settle over time as long as the base flooring is not too uneven. Drop offs will never work. I have had LVP in one room for about a year. PLaces where you could tell the floor was not perfectly flat have disappeared. Clear proof that LVP does settle over time. Let gravity do the work - its cheaper.
Good video thank you, but you didn’t cover the ones that just lay on top versus the interlocking. I’m quite interested in the ones that just lay on the surface, I think they’d be easier to replace A damaged product. Interesting to hear your thoughts. Thank you
If they donot inter lock than they must be glued or you are asking for big time problems later!
Thank you for this! We are considering installing vinyl flooring and this was very helpful!
Thanks for checking it out! Glad it helped!!
So glad I clicked on here. Thanks for all the tips......great advice.
Durability really all depends on the product. People really need to understand the product specification for the wear layer. I just laid a thousand square foot of rigid core one hundred percent waterproof LVP last week, and it already has scratches on it. Now I'm doing more research. I thought just choosing rigid core waterproof LVP would be good enough, but it's not.
Thanks for the input. A floor installer tried to push rigid core on me last month... glad I didn't go with that.
Thank you for all that information! So don't put a rubber backed or anything like it over the floor as a door mat?
WPC versus SPC are:
WPC is made with wood plastic core-SPC with stone plastic core. WPC is little softer and warmer underfoot but less durable especially to dents because of softness(core) than a SPC. Wearlayer is important and most common are 6, 12, 20. I dont recommend the 6 unless just selling home or in a room little usage. When shopping take a key and scrape back and forth twenty times on sample. Texture on either important for footprints etc. Step back and forth on sample. The smoother and shiny the mort dirt and dust you see especially when the light hits it. The vinyl planking you see in grocery stores produce sections like Safeway are 40 mil
We are planning to remove tile over slab floor through much of the house and replace with LVP. Do we need a pad under the LVP as a moisture barrier? Do we need to look for a glue down installation system?
How flammable is it? Will it catch fire within a minute of being exposed to small fire?
Two questions: #1. Can LVP really compete with the look of a similar looking ceramic tile? I worry about looking cheap and plastic-y. #2 -If you could install any LVP in your own house (which you probably can), what brand would you choose? Thanks and great video!
Have used lvt in alot of jobstake your time and do it right will last for years
Vinyl plank flooring is also water resistant, not completely waterproof like hybrid vinyl planks. Always opt for a professional installer, especially if its a floating installation.
Great advice for the YT crowd. Thumbs-up!

Is vinyl better then laminate for a bedroom?
I have VPF in a new modular that I installed over a radiant heated floor. The biggest problem I have is shrinkage. There are multiple joints that have opened up so I'll eventually need to reset the floor. Another issue is fine dirt...when the floor is in a high traffic area the fine dirt clings to it and needs to be wet mopped to get it all up. To date, I haven't found a good finish that will hold a shine and repel the dirt.
Researching VPF. That's how I found you. Will subscribe to your channel for the reason you have a flavor flav painting.
Keep up the good work....
allen williford haha awesome thank you!

have vinyl plank flooring had a flood during hurricane and can hear and feel one spot that is in living room that must have water under it ? can i pull up that piece or piece's and dry and bleach it and be okay? we only had surface water on the flooring don't hear or feel it anywhere else on floor.
What are pros and cons of the rigid vinyl plank vs more malleable type. What are pros and cons of thickness and wear layer thickness.
Just buy quality material. 10mm is pretty common on the higher end. If you live alone with low traffic don't worry about it. The higher the traffic the better material you should get. Go to a reputable flooring seller that isnt just selling amd knows their stuff.
Thanks for making this video. After installation, will there will be any harmful off gassing or emissions that are very noticeable and stinky. I know it won’t be zero emissions, but how bad it is in warm areas like California? Thanks
Is vinyl floor temperature warm when you touch it by feet? Or is it colder than laminat one?
Can you install vinyl plank flooring over laminate flooring?
We just got Luxury Vinyl Planks installed. Its non glossy and leaves heel marks and chairs etc are difficult to move on it. Will simply adding a LVP / LVT approved floor polish fix this?

Best way to clean heavy solid flooring
at 6:34, pardon my ignorance, what are reducers to compensate for the extra height when installing over ceramic tiles? I like to install it over Ceramic tiles in Kitchen and foyer, and also like to rip out carpet from living room and replace it with Vinyl tiles. This means the floor height of living room will be a lower than the rest. How do I make it all even ? Also, the padding that will go over the tiles, do you glue the padding at the ends ? Thanks much
Call your local flooring supplier, they'll have them. They are an elongated wedge, essentially. Even if they work for your desired application, they may not feel great underfoot.
What is the gravel dust on my floor daily?
Hi im from Australia and not sure what you mean by padding ,im in the business and there are 2 types of vinyl plank 1 vinyl plank glue down which needs a flat surface so concrete floors might need to be screened as you do with going over tiles just thicker coat and timber floors will need a Masonite or hardboard sheeting first to level and flatten.
And there is Hybrid plank which is a floating floor system that lays loose of the floor which has a padding glued to the back.I dont it would be different to the states but I reckon both are great products
what is the best type of locking system for vinyl plank flooring ?
Lumber Liquidators Coretec Ultra is less expensive ($3-4 ft) and have 4x the wear layer as HD Lifeproof or the Lowes varient. Really good stuff and easier to install than ANYTHING I've ever used & I've done it all
You might want to investigate Lumber Liquidators before buying from them. They have been sued because the wood flooring products they sell have formaldehyde in them which has made some people very sick. I think the U.S. government sued them over this issue (or some other legal action). A lot of the products at LL are made in China--something that is concerning.
I don't know where their vinyl planking is made but I suppose it'd be easy to find out--as well as the other issues I've mentioned.
@@happydays1336 that was a decade plus ago - so its a non-issue They fixed the issue and all products are now safe
And how long have you worked for Lumber Liquidators corporate?
Can ESPC Primo Luxury Vinyl Plank by fixed if scratched to white?
I bought a box of 4.5mm with 1mm underlay as a colour sample. I like it a lot but it says floor must not exceed 1mm tolerance... it doesn't say over what distance...
Had tiles in, paying someone to rip them out and grind down the thin-set on concrete with a walk-behind floor polisher. Would this be enough prep? It is a very expensive process.
Just an FYI if you're going to go over tile you don't need a reducer if it's on a concrete subfloor you can pour a bag of self level to bring it up as long as it's around 3/8 or less yoy won't feel it and you can run the it through the room
I recently came across some Shaw LVP and it was nice looking about $5.75 a sq ft but the locking joints where so flimsy they broke off at the slightest pressure . Yes I get there are many reasons especially with no knowledge of how to properly click them together for some people . With that aside I’ve found many great looking brand name LVP planks have terrible locking grooves that snap rite off . Don’t get me wrong this can happen with any quality LVP with enough abuse but when they crack rite off with the pressure from your thumb it’s bad . Price doesn’t always mean your getting great quality. These where 8mm thick not some flimsy 4 or below planks .
Do you advise putting this on top of engendered wood flooring
A lot of good into in a short amount of time, thanx.
Does it outgas? Is it good to conserve ac as insulator? What about noise downstairs?
Thank you
I got a decent vinyl plank floor from Habitat for Humanity Restore. It was around $2.00/sq.ft. It went down very easily. My builder and I did the entire house, including closets (1500sq.ft.) in less than three days.
impressive!

Vinyl plank with throw rugs or wall-to-wall carpet *?* Carpet is high maintenance but very nice.
Can vinyl plank flooring be installed over heated tile floor? Also, can it be installed over a floating hardwood floor?
What about the peel and stick flooring that looks like laminate, any comment?
You get what you pay for!
Do I need underlayment for Vinyl plank floor that has a backing that is going onto concrete?
No @sean williams but the floor needs to be level and relatively free of imperfections.
Does vinyl flooring need the same expansion gap as laminate and can it be glued in some areas.?
I installed it in my RV and considering adhesive in certain areas..
The instructions do say to leave an expansion gap around the perimeter. We left about 1/4", putting floor trim at the bottom of new drywall in my basement finish. I used liquid nails to adhere the planks on the stairs going down to the basement. I used similar colored caulking to seal around the sides of the flooring on the stairs. I used the stair nose product to make it look nice. I'm happy with the results. It has only been about 3-4 months since we finished the job, so too early to tell for longevity. But so far definitely like the way it looks. My basement stays a pretty consistent temperature so I don't think expansion will be an issue for me.
Please tell me can Vinyl install on the old vinyl flooring?
I have heard there is vinyl planks that you just click on to one another without having to angle it upward first, where can I find this product?
Hi Michael, thank you for your video. My question concerns the health risks and what I can do to offset them. I've overcome health challenges and need to take special care re: toxins. I've been studying all kinds of building materials for the past 3 months so I can make good decisions about renovating a 1974 condo. I almost went with cork, but now am looking at vinyl if there are products with no or very low VOCs, and other bad stuff. Any direction/advice/brands you can recommend would be so helpful. Thanks again.

Can i put Cybil over laminate?
What is a “reducer”. I have tile in my kitchen and dining room…don’t really want to remove it…the. Carpet in living area…is that possible? There would be a slight difference I would think…thanks for the info…
Ok so LVP is water resistant but where it’s misleading is water will find its way under your trim and still will cause lots of problems down the road. I am a retired floor installer of 26 years and yes we are a dying breed like the Amish folk lol. I like your video I respect how you don’t bs folks just to get the job. Truth an knowledge of products gets more work than some just some person that done his parents entry way and now knows it all about everything and. Well ya that guy don’t last long either. Good content great job on the pricing part also. Cause most customers at the end of the day won’t know what product you just sold them until 2 years later. So what’s a lower cost Lvp and how do you know which product is the $3/4 sf price range ? I know the difference but maybe shine some more light on that. Great video. Always upgrade your knee pads.
Thanks for the insights - what's the diff between this and vynil sheet (is it just like a "sticker" for the floor?) do they share the same benefits.. or am completely on the cheap side? Thanks :)
They slide together and float on top on the subfloor. If you have in level floors you will have to fix it.
How would you finish against a bath tub? Just butt up to it, use a transition strip, silicone?
Silicone
Rubber quarter round
and to add to the other two comments, it depends. ;-) Straight edge perhaps Huy's method, jacuzzi-style tub with curves and your scribe game is off, consider the flexible quarter round as Garage Built says. It can look ok if it is done well.
$3.00/sqft isn't too bad. I got some Pergo Extreme commercial stuff for $3.50 after a 50% discount from an overstock seller. Confirmed from several sources they normally pay $6-$7 for the stuff.
But this is replacing damaged tile, which insurance covered for $20/sqft. So with the savings of replacing the tile with LVP, I'm actually able to replace the entirety of two floors.
Literally listening to them hammer the stuff in as I type this.
Thank you 😊
For installing over an uneven subfloor which product masks the imperfections best, quality laminate flooring or quality vinyl flooring? And are light or dark colors better as far as this same question goes?
They make a tool that shaves it level
I find grey hides alot
Ligher shades hide flaws better. Its not different than a black or dark colored vehicle vs. light colored. Or clothing. Everything shows more with dark colors no matter what the item. I also suggest using a pattern that has variety in the shading - it will hide minor flaws as well.
LVP scratches easy, also no matter the price point if your subfloor is not flat and I mean flat You will feel it. LVF is thin no matter what brand you buy. Think about it. Also, it can get very cold around exterior doors depending upon insulation.
I respectfully disagree. We have not had any scratches, even though our dogs race around on it and you can hear their toenails on the floor. We are careful when moving furniture, all the same.
D V Its the furniture you need to be careful of. Table chair legs dragging as you shift in your seat etc.
G7130 I see what you mean. But, regardless, we have had vinyl plank flooring for 12 years in 3 homes and have had no scratching or damage to our floors. They look as good as when they were installed. The flooring we chose was the more expensive VPF but worth the extra expense.

If vinyl plank flooring gets wet underneath for whatever reason (bathtub overflows, basement gets some water in it, dishwasher explodes etc) won’t that trapped water eventually cause mold? Just wondering how to get it dry off it gets wet
You have to take it up, let it dry out, and reinstall. Waterproof just means the lvp won't get damaged.
Will couches and entertainment centers leave an indentation in vinyl flooring?
Can you put it over crappy stick-on tiles? If the floor is a bit uneven should I use an underlayment? I saw some blue rolls of stuff with those little air pockets in it. Will it resist animal pee? I thought if it did not I would go with look if wood type ceramic tiles But that's slot harder to install.
Not recommended but use a premium, sound absorbing underpayment so help even out the flooring.

No, unless you can find indoor/outdoor brand.
Finally found real reviews on NuCore. When initiating a warranty claim, first question they ask you, “ who was your professional installer?”
If you don’t have one, you just voided your warranty.

How do you routinely clean Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring? Should you mop it? Or just use dry swiffer? Thanks!
@Faith Byrum I know this is an older post but for those that read after here it is: Any way you want. That is the whole point! It is great product, you can wet mop or swiffer. In product that is textured as most LVP is keep in mind your cleaning method needs to 'reach' into the texture to clean well. Not a knock on LVP at all, I mention it simply because one should consider using a microfiber mop head or towel that can really clean well. I use Unger brand microfiber products on my flooring and it gets everything, a regular mop will just push dirt around....

What is a good product to clean and shine vinyl plank flooring?
I just had it laid in my kitchen. It doesn’t have any shine. I like a shiny floor. I am thinking of using Mop and Glow on it. Anyone ever did that? Mop and Glo did real well on the peel and stick tiles that we covered up.
Mop and glo or Any other topical polish will eventually gather dirt and grease and require professional stripping that gets very expensive very fast so be aware before you make that decision
DO. NOT. Mop and Glo. Not a knock at all to Mop and Glo, just a ditto to what Josh said above. That product was not made for LVP.
