  • I saw the issues that came with hardwood floors first hand time after time doing service work for new home construction. I also used laminate in a couple of my own homes as an affordable alternative to hardwood but had issues in the first year with water and chipping.
    We decided to install luxury vinyl plank when we built our current home. Its been over one year since we moved into our home, and I wanted to take a few minutes to walk through and show you how it has held up in terms of scratches and dings, spills, and humidity, and temperature changes!
    Feel free to reach out in the comments with any questions!

    I highly recommend this type of flooring. We had a flood in 2016 with over an inch of mud left on the flooring glued to a cement pad in a converted garage. We used water and a squeegee to push the mud out, scrubbed and bleached the vinyl and it still is great. The flooring has been down since 2004.

    Thank you so much for this! I have a mobile home and I was told to use this but the lady at Lowe’s highly recommended laminate which would end up costing us 3k for two rooms which aren’t that big. I was told the moisture would buckle and just ruin laminate but she assured us it wouldn’t. I like the thought of this stuff so much better.

    We pulled tiles out of our kitchen and replaced with vinyl, I could not be happier. after 10 years of abuse from kids, dog etc. It still looks really good, a few of the sub floor imperfections can be seen if you really really look. So much warmer on your feet, waterproof and if I drop a glass or anything no shattering and cracking the tile. When I do replace many years down the road, vinyl. Mine btw is about twice the thickness. Thank you for the review

    Good info and review. I've never seen high velocity heat registers before...interesting. I even put this flooring on the walls of my rentals as a decorative wainscot look in high traffic/impact areas such as stairwell walls, hallways, behind the toilets and anywhere I expect a couch/furniture/bed to be pushed against a drywall wall. Much of my major damage comes from people moving heavy bulky items in or out so I try and anticipate and protect from that.

    We have a similar vinyl plank floor. Ours is 5.5cm thickness. The builder used an underlayment. We live in Hawaii, so high humidity. This flooring is fabulous. Stands up to big dog claws, water, you name it. We have had it one year, and no flaws. You can wet mop it. No bumps, lifts, gaps, worry free. We love it. We had a cheap engineered hardwood in another home here and that stuff was awful. Easily water damaged, buckled and scratched.

    That vinyl finish is REALLY nice, the irregular grain/surface patterns also help hide any scratches and defects. So much nicer that the overly consistent grain patterns of so many other floor products, especially laminates. I love the vinyl planks. We bought homebase ( Uk DIY store ) value range planks for our hallway from the front door all the way through, the hall is around 35ft long and around 7ft wide, they were put down about 10 years ago and they have coped with a very busy house, people in and out constantly, 6 cats and a dog with numerous pee accidents, furniture moved over it, appliances dragged and pulled over it, floods from the cupboard that houses our 2nd washing machine, due to water coming up through the floors ( it’s the house that jack built ) I could go on about the abuse the floors had but I won’t , the floor has stood up to everything and is only just now starting to fail, the last 2 months with all the water under the house the wooden boards under the planks has swollen, creating separation between the planks but that’s it, we used them in our old house as well in the spare bedroom, the kitchen and the bathroom, and after the wooden boards have been replaced and the water issues dealt with we will replace it with the same, I’d never go back to wood floors or laminate flooring ever. If your in doubt about using the vinyl planks forget the doubt and do it, just don’t buy them from random places like wish 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Regards from a very sunny eastbourne in south east England xx

    We have had these floors in our home for almost 14 years and would have nothing else. They are so much warmer in the winter and cool in the summer. They are cushioned so most items that are dropped don’t break, including myself!! Over the years I’ve taken several very hard falls that must likely would have resulted in broken bones on hardwood, laminate or tile, instead only a bruise or two!!! Here’s a tip, if you want a shine without being slippery, after mopping use Rejuvenate!!! It leaves them so polished they still look wet! We love our floors and even in the dark oak, scratches are invisible!! Great product!!

The only downside we had was during the initial professional install, we had the stairs done. Couldn't stand the stair tread endcap (nosing) they used. That was 6 years ago so probably better options now. We had them switch it out for wood stair treads and risers. We have 3 dogs.

    Watched a different video of a guy renovating an abandon house he bought and he used a product to "self-level" the floor (they didn't tell the name but Lowes or Home Depot should know). Made it completely level and covered all the "problems" with the floor before installing new hardwood floors. Also stumbled across a product called "wood hardener" that will harden weak floors to rock hard to stabilize your floor before adding new hardwood/carpet/tile.

    I installed vinyl plank flooring in 2016 on my first floor and now finishing the 2nd floor. It's not super easy but I think I did a good job and it has worn really well. It has a built-in grain and it's kind of a hickory color, dark brown and blacks. Fairly scratch resistant. And we got it on sale at Menards. We've got a dark version of this in our kitchen/dining area, the one thing I'd say is don't go dark, the scratches show up way more than they do on lighter shades. It looks fantastic, but doesn't stay that way. When we eventually redo it we'll go a lighter shade I think. Was thinking about engineered wood for the rest of the house, but after the comments about how the joints go with seasonal change I might have to revisit that. We've got carpet atm, but it's not wearing well despite us buying expensive wool carpet with the best underlay we could get.

    Hi....great review! I appreciate you taking the time to do this. I am in the middle of a complete kitchen remodel, as well as replacing flooring throughout. I have a downstairs basement apartment which is a rental, and I am trying to do everything I can to reduce noise transmission mainly from upstairs to downstairs. I have been researching soundproofing items...and quiet walk plus underlayment keeps rising to the top. AI am skeptical at best...but, it can be used with a glue down such as yours. I guess my question is this...if you had used an underlayment, do you think it would “telegraph “ through like your floor joist did?
    Thanks again....

    • @BuildLessons
      @BuildLessons  Рік тому

      Hi there and sorry for the slow response, I had been on a break from UA-cam as work got too busy. It is a good question on the underlayment, I think any underlayment would cause issues even for a click product because the softness of it would allow the planks to move up and down underfoot and could cause the click system to unlock. This seems to be a common problem even on relatively flat subfloors as they have made the click system so thin on most products. What solution did you end up using for sound proofing and floor covering?
