Thank you Denise for helping me understand all the information on this palette, and showing me other things that matter--like how it moves even in such a small square! I purchased it because it did receive good reviews as professional paint and it was really the only one I could find in my snack bracket. I'm 6 months into watercolour classes and now online tutorials and these paints made all the difference in me finding pleasure in learning to paint. Watching you use the diary and annotate each swatch is fantastic. I now understand the value of the diary and will get one going for myself to learn more about my paints and how to work with them. LOVE Rosa paints, I've got the Urban set, monopigmented and a general set. I never thought I would ever find a paint I loved more than schmincke!!! These paints are gorgeous and reasonably priced and the Titanium white wow!!!! I've just ordered the swatching book but wish they did one with more pages, don't they know how many palettes artists have????😂

    Lovely video!!
I think you definitely have neutral black mixed up, maybe the manufacturer mistakenly put the label on a wrong pan. I have it, it doesn't look like this, it's definitely the color which you'd imagine neutral tint to be.

I have real real moments too where ive messed up lol..the colors are really pretty i think my fav color is the olive green but im a huge green ,brown ,gray, kinda person ..this set is deftly going on a future xmas list..ive put my self on a tight art buy only at xmas and birthday..basically its really helps on overwhelming my little art space which is limited area..doesnt the honey binder have a remarkable difference in movement as the binder is probably thicker..im really looking forward to next year purschase plus looking forward to you using these paints in future art pieces..

What prof.watercolor colors, would you suggest to someone who wants to jump from beginner level using van goghs, to the pro watercolours? I have Sminchke,Winsor&Newton,Rembrandt available where I live. Any suggestions for colors from their pro lines? thanks in advance and Merry Christmas

Great question! I am only familiar with Schminke and Winsor and Newton. It is a personal choice and depending on your budget I think both brands are great! I haven't used Rembrandt but I hear from other UA-camr's that it is a great brand as well. I would personally go with what my budget can afford. Van Gogh is a great student quality paint brand to and I think it is Rembrandt's student line. Anyone correct me if I am wrong.

You're right! Since you mentioned Schmincke, first, I'll get 3 or 4 Schmincke colours, to replace the colours that have finished and theoriticaly, also upgrade the quality a bit too! Thank you for replying! Have a very merry Christmas!!@@DeniseSmithCreative

Paint companies can put whatever lightfast ratings they want on their paint.

The best thing to do is to know your pigments 😃

I love Rosa watercolours, but if one looks up the pigments they use on e.g. handprint, then it would seem some of their lightfastness ratings are probably optimistic (as are the similarly-formulated White Knights in the same problematic colours - reds, pinks, etc).

Don't be so hard on yourself. We have all watched our colors on the wrong spot more than once.

Actually, I know youtubers don't want to hear this because it puts a fake in their marketing powers, but there is no standard to indicate professional from student. Hence why most professionals use "student grade"paints. The only ones that I know that do not use student grade are those sponsored by paint manufacturers.
Point being, there are plenty of great student grade paints out there. Look for single pigment paints. White knights is great. Most I know use cotman tube paints.

Sending this to my friend who I talked into getting some Rosa’s..AND I gave her some pans I made from tubes of Rosa’s and White Knights. ALL of mine are single pigments. She got a set with a lot of mixes and said she’s getting some chalkiness..which actually surprised me. Rosa’s is SUPPOSED to be ONLY pigment and gum Arabic…which, I have to question, at least with some of them. I WILL say, I got my mono-pigment sent specifically to test with some Chinese mediums to use on xuan paper. (Long story); but, besides Kuretake, these were the best ones to use on my xuan paper (I make a brushwater with mingjiao dissolved in it (Hu mingjiao is a glue made from recycled fish bones and is in most Asian paints); it makes the water/paint control/absorption much easier on delicate xuan paper)
Overall, ESPECIALLY considering the price, I love Rosa’s! On sale, you can get tubes for less than $6 on Omnia Pro Art Supply on Etsy (they also sell white knights!). Unfortunately, because of the situation in Ukraine, they rarely re-stock; and when they do, they have a big sale and sell out of the best colors really fast. Their pans are obviously even cheaper and I highly recommend checking out the single pigments that weren’t in your set! Their PR122 is probably their most popular, and unfortunately, hard to find unless you get it in a set or can catch them when they restock.
And you just reminded me..I need to go TRY and find my burnt Sienna…HOW I could lose a tube of paint..🤦🏼‍♀️..I have NO idea…I keep asking Dr Kitty Leela, but she insists she’s “only” hiding my ink stick..🙄😹🤷🏼‍♀️. (Chinese ink is made with floral essences and some with added TCM Herbs. We have NO idea what, but Leela is obsessed with something in it…NOT to eat or drink, she just rolls on top of practice paper with dried ink, carries it around, basically like catnip. My ink stick that was still in its taped up box, she also carried around…somewhere. One day I’ll find my rabbit brush, ink stick, practice paper..and probably my burnt Sienna, tucked away somewhere..)

I consider White Nights to be wonderfully professional imo! They're more opaque too! Like my Renesans Polska and Rosa Studio+Gallery! I enjoy them all! And I did use the Cotman tube colors for almost 2 years before replacing them with the professional range.

      Cotman is a good one
