At 3:52 i show emails from Meta where they admit there's a problem with this product. I didnt make this video because I'm having a problem. I made it because 1. Many people complained of this issue in my last video and 2. Meta admits there's a problem. This product is defective until further notice.
I thought you needed 1k subs to get monetized and 4k hours watched? Is there another way, great video too mate, thank you for the advice, I'm a small content creator and buying that strap would have really pissed me off, thanks again
I've seen many posts about it before purchasing, and when I received it two days ago, it worked as expected. I initially thought it might be a quality control issue, but hearing that yours was functioning and then stopped is truly concerning. Thank you for your video and honesty regarding the product. holy...
Chris I feel like you're really trustworthy and have an everyman perspective. I personally think you should review a bunch of other tech. I'd definitely watch.
Thank you for your honesty. I agree the Bobo vr and you hit the nail on the head. Oddly I bought this because your review and haven’t had issue yet. Fingers crossed
@ChrisBTech , great video by the way. I wonder when most peoples elite strap with battery stopped working. I'll bet it was after that update. Someone said in the Meta Quest forums that draining the elite strap battery to 0% caused the battery to stop working to the point that the elite strap battery would charge, but it wouldn't even charge the main headset battery and this is without the headset on. So I mean they have the elite strap battery charging and have it plugged into the main Quest battery as to charge both batteries at the same time and only the elite strap battery charges and if they turn on the headset the elite strap battery is not recognized either. Pretty crazy. I haven't gotten to the point that my elite strap with battery is not working, but I think it won't next time I turn it on, because I just had installed the update and now need to turn on the headset and see what happens. I had from the beginning an issue where the elite strap battery would not charge on its own, but my main headset battery would. I had to plug the charging usb-c cable into the elite strap battery and take the cable from that battery and plug into the main Quest USB connection and I get both batteries charged fully. I just think that after that update is installed things go south. Maybe draining the elite strap battery to 0% does something also, but I am at the point of testing the Quest to see if it works after that update. If it doesn't work now then I think it's the update causing the problem. Otherwise that elite strap battery shows up like it should, although drains quickly as does the main battery. I get about 1.5 hours from the main battery. I did order from Amazon a power bank that plugs into the main headset USB connection and says it will not fall out of the connection point. So, you could always get an elite strap with no battery and add some other battery solution. Only time will tell. Thanks for this update on things. I just subscribed.
Glad to see more people talking about this issue, I was among some of the first and people called me just unlucky lol. Weird note, if you connect the strap and hold the button on the back it stays connected until you let go of the button. I returned my first strap and on my second now. This is day 3 and it’s still working whereas my first died after a couple hours.
@@ChrisBTech it’s really poor quality control. I’m hoping it’s a firmware bug in the strap that can be patched and not low quality components. It will be an expensive recall if it’s the latter, a big dampener on what should be a great launch, the headset is amazing otherwise!
As somebody with the Quest 3 Elite Strap with Battery, it's actually really great and comfortable. Does not shake, and the battery life definitely is a huge improvement! I haven't had any issues at all so far. Note, the extra battery life (the external battery thing) for me did not work for a few days until it became AMAZINGLY nice to use!
Hi! For you the logo that states that the battery is charging with the elite strap stays on or also dissappears???? Mine is like the video, it dissappears and I don't know if is charging it or not
What about the elite strap from Oculus 2? I rigged it to fit the 3 for now without the 3D printed clips I’m using a zip tie on each side and it’s very comfortable but the battery when I plug that in, the % doesn’t go up but it does say it’s charging. I should probably know better but the batteries may have total different watts so I won’t try it again until I hear confirmation. But for those wanting to save money the elite strap with battery can still be used and again the comfort is what it’s about. Now about that battery 🤔
Good, that's all, When I saw the description of the video on here, I thought this was a video on your Elite Strap that was cracked and broken all of a sudden, like what happened to the Quest 2 Elite Straps, but it's just a battery issue not appearing in the home menu on the Quest 3, hopefully that's just a software issue with the external battery on the Strap and maybe software updates can fix that, I'm sure Meta can fix it soon
Phew... I dodged a bullet there, I haven't had the same issues with battery life as yourself, but the comfort was a really problem, so I got a fairly cheap strap that does a better job than I expected. Although I am mostly waiting for the bobo VR to try out since I already have some of the battery's. Fingers crossed its some kind of firmware issue that can be updated on the quest itself.
Finally someone speaks the Truth. Mines has stopped working thought it was just defective. Replaced it and it stopped working the very next day also. I've been telling everyone it's broken.
@@theclassicgamer20 how long you've been using it? I've been using it for two days and now I'm thinking of returning it if it's not a software problem...
learned my lesson from quest2's elite strap. Meta really cant do accessories and they overcharge for them ontop of it. Bobo m3 strap not doing too well either due to the battery tech never evolving from the bobovr m2, meaning the battery cannot charge headset fast enough, so the battery always gose down on the headset but just at a much slower rate. Also due to the quest3s power drain you will be swapping that battery for a recharge every hour.
Got the exact same problem, kept an eye on the Meta forum and the current solution over there is the 12s reset “fix”. This doesn’t work for me and I’m seriously doubting about returning the whole headset with accessories, although I like the headset - I really dislike the general and elite strap battery life/issues. Thanks for covering this!
*Did they get a fix yet?* Because i bought two of them, one for my sons headset and one for my headset. Mines will arrive Thursday January 4th 2024. I did not even know they had an issue. I was looking on youtube for reviews on the battery strap and ran into this video. Again I will be rather thankful if you can tell me if Meta has fixed the issue as of yet?
I'm going to check that out straight away with mine. If I have that same issue. If not now, most likely will in the future ( lol) just like when 2 of my elite straps w/ battery broke with my q2 hmm. Thank you for informing everyone on this issue
Damn, thanks for the update. I was totally going to get one based on your endorsement. Yeah, hopefully it's a software fix. My plan is to use the Oculus Link cable often, for PC graphics, so battery life hopefully won't be an issue in the meantime until it's fixed.
I just chose to run internal battery with an extended battery pack along with a 4 foot usb c cable. Makes more sense for me and keeps additional weight in my pocket. I had the Bobo for my Quest 2, I agree it’s floaty and too bulky for me. I like how the headset with elite strap fits in the Quest 3 case.
Got the quest 3 on opening day. Elite strap with battery worked fine until last couple days. Exact same problem you're experiencing. If I plug my phone into the elite strap it charges from it, so juice is still coming out. Hopefully software fix.
My current strap solution is a BoboVR M1 Pro, with a 3d printed retrofit kit. It works amazing. I got the file from printables, and if you can contact someone local that does prints as a service, I suggest you get yourself the M1 Pro strap, then just have the retrofit printed.
It means you get 70% if you reload the strap alone. To get 100% you have to connect it with the quest 3. Strange savety but ok. The strap battery manager have to verify you not load the strap while using.
Mine was qwirky for charging at first... and I I ave the Meta Q3 Dock. What I finally realized, was that I needed to leave it connected and then power off the Q3 completely when charging to have the dock properly charge the Q3 and the headtsrap properly. If the Q3 wakes up or powers on for any reason, that would cause the Q3 to only charge and not the Battery strap. I think this is partially intentional. Again, though, as long as I completely power down the Q3, then the Q3 and strap both charge perfectly, and have been working fine since. That said... I agree that I think some software fixes are coming. Beyond that... have been loving the strap and the dock.
Hey Chris I had the exact same problem. Luckily I purchased through Amazon and it was an easy return. Now I’m debating if I should keep the official case or not as I might try the bobo m3 and will not fit in that case. If they are ever in stock. The elite strap was comfortable but the battery issues are annoying for sure. I noticed that Amazon does not seem to be selling the elite strap with battery and your video confirms why. Great video thank you!
Same here got the strap yesterday and it worked flawless, then i charged and now the battery is not visible anymore. I hope its a software issue cause i really like the comfort.
I purchased the Elite Strap without battery first and It was SO much more comfortable than the BoboVR that i was sold. So then I decided to upgrade to the elite strap with battery. The extra weight makes it a bit less comfortable than the standard elite strap. I haven't yet had the issues but I expect any day now. I'm thinking the best solution may be the elite strap without battery and using a magetic USB-C cable (similar to Apple Vision Pro) tethered to an anker 18-20v pocket charger. Someone needs to make a head strap that ape's the Apple Vision Pro along with a magnetic USB-C port. That will be the ticket.
Here in Spain, after the first week after release, it became impossible to order one of these. Either through demand or a recall. I don't know. But when it became available again I got one as it has the best batter integration and battery life at the moment. I have been using and draining it for 3 days. Yes, it disappeared with in half an hour of using it but I just pulled the plug out the side and put it back in whilst using it and it was fine again. I've had to do that a couple of times. Hopefully the new 59 update will fix this. Apart from that very minor issue, it's been great and I can now game for a couple of hours and still have around 50% battery rather than being on the last few percent and then nobody else can use it for hours while it charges. Very, very over priced. This glitch is almost certainly a software issue which is why I still went ahead and bougt it. Embarrassed about paying that much but it does what it says on the tin. It's comfortable, sturdy and the battery power and integration is what you are paying for as nothing at present can match it. I was thinking of getting a Bobovr m3 but it's bulky and the you need multiple battery packs to match the elite straps charge
Thanks for the update. I gotta admit, I was surprised to hear a familiar voice when i watched your previous video about the Elite Strap (knowing you from the Tesla FSD videos but stumbled upon your Tech channel just by accident). I've bought the Quest 3 as well (my first VR headset) and i've been relatively happy with it. Biggest downsides are the mediocre/bad battery life and the absolutely garbage head strap. Desperately looking for a better replacement for it (but probably not desperate enough to pay 155€ for the Meta Elite Strap). I'm interested to hear what your favorite games and apps are for it so far.
Did you end up getting another strap? I'm thinking about getting the Quest 3, but want to know what my total cost will need to be to have an adequate experience.
I’m pretty sure what’s happening is that the headset is viewing the strap battery as part of the regular one. So for example- if the headset battery is 100% and the strap is 50% and you plug the strap in, the battery it shows might change to 75% because the total of both batteries is 75% capacity. I can’t confirm this but pretty sure it’s just a display thing. I’ll have to check mine further
Nope. I have the same issue and for the first few seconds it combines the percentage as the average. Then it just goes back to the headset battery only and it runs only on the headset battery. Very unhappy.
I found the answer. The quest 3 uses Qualcomm quick charge 4. When using chargers make sure you are using USB 3.0 to thunderbolt, and a 25W power bank charger to get it to ACTUALLY charge. Regular power banks don't put out enough juice to keep the Quest 3 alive.
@@joeyjoe003 You can but you have to make sure the outlet or battery you are using is rated for 20 watts output or higher or the quest will drain faster than it charges
I had bought a off brand with no name head strap. Its just called quest 3 head strap. Its a knock off from the BOBO head strap and its very comfy for long use. My last 2 head straps were from BOBO. Im also using a INIU brick charger for extended play and it works great. I just put it in my pocket and I dont worry about battery life EVER
That's what I am saying. I had two break so randomly I don't even know how it happened. It was almost like it was sitting in a case on it's shelf and I opened it one day and it was cracked. And that was with two of them! After that, I just duct taped it. But I will never buy another strap from them again. Even with the Quest 3, I'll just wait for 3rd party products to be released.
I had the same issues, but now it WORKS AGAIN. Yesterday i first charged, all ok, and played 3 hours. And over night i plugged in to power, to charge again. Today i started Quest 3 and Battery Strap not showing anymore in the main Menue, only the Quest Battery. Powered off Quest 3 and pushed one time the power Button showed only the Quest Battery, too. Try this: 1. Connect the Elite Strap to Quest 3 2. Push the Battery Indicator Button on the Elite Strap longer than 12 Seconds! That should Reset the Elite Strap and Install it again! 3.After that i was in the Factory Reset Menue when i put on the Quest 3. I have choosen in the Menue turn off Quest 3. 4. I pushed the power button once on Quest 3 and both Battery are shown again 🙏. 5. I Powered on the Quest and in the Menue it showed like it should! And there was a Message that the Extended Battery is installed! So Try to Reset the Elite Strap with pushing Battery indicator Button on Elite Strap longer than 12 Seconds! Would like to know if it helped you!
@@ChrisBTech Have you charged the Strap a little bit alone. Maybe it is to drained. And after that in the Main Menue where you see the Battery Indicator in the Window ledft corner, push the Indicator Button as long as you hear a Sound?
Edit Nov23: you get 70% charge if you load when strap disconnect from headset. So you have to use it overnight loading while the strap is connected to meta quest 3. Not a solution, but try this: Hold the button next to the indicator LED for about 6 seconds until you see a green LED on the battery band. good luck
My Quest 2 launch Elite strap did that. Three years later I thought I'd try another Quest 2 Elite strap, thinking Meta would fit that. NOPE! AT THE MOMENT, my Quest 3 Elite strap is working and still looks like it is working properly. . . . What seemed to help my Quest 2 to bring back the dual battery indicators is to plug TWO separate USB C cables into the headset and Elite strap to charge it. THAT seems to be able to bring the headset and strap battery above a threshold so that they will show as charged on the Quest 3 also. Meta supplied another charger in the box for the $120 Elite strap, right? No? AND NO, it is not good that Meta's had three years to fix this kind of problem. Looks like it hasn't. But at the moment My Elite strap is still working for my Quest 3. (The battery life STILL isn't that great, needing to plug the headset directly into a charger before I'm done playing.) Still love my Quest 3 by the way.
mine worked for a couple of days and then stopped I assumed it was faulty because when it tried to plug it into my iPad it wouldn't give any charge to that either - so I sent it back to the place I bought it from. Having dealt with meta support before I know how useless they can be so didn't actually bother to contact them if I had known that it was a software fault then I might have kept it as the strap itself is incredibly comfortable and I was happy with it.
@@DavidMasar78 they stop working, it’s not that it doesn’t show you that there is power it’s that they stop being able to give any power at all. Watch the video and his recording shows the issue perfectly. Tested it with my iPad as well and would not give any power to that either.
Chris I had the same problem. I bought this but not from meta. After one initial response from customer support, asking me to do the same steps they probably asked you to do which didn't fix it. They stopped responding to me. So I just returned it to the retailer and exchanged it for another one and that one works so far. But now you have me worried it's going to stop working. My initial one did not work from the get-go and did exactly what yours is doing. I've also read online that many many people are having the same problems.
Mine eventually broke but Meta sent out a new boxed one and I didn't need to send the old one back so I got an extra strap that will hopefully work on the lite :-) New one seems fine. One of those early adopter things. I do like the strap as it basically turns the quest into a 4 hour hat :-) Still pleased I bought it
Just tonight I noticed this too. The battery info in the Quest 3 headset no longer shows the Quest 3 and Elite Strap battery levels separately. Instead it just shows one battery readout (headset only) but it does show that it is “charging” when the Elite strap is connected to it. So it appears that I am still benefiting from the extra battery but just can’t see the battery meters separately anymore. I just assumed there may have been a headset update that happened last night that changed the way this displays. Same thing when the headset is off and you briefly press the headset power button. The display in the headset used to show the two batteries separately, but now only shows one readout, but shows it as charging. Tonight I started with both batteries fully charged and after about 45 mins of use, it showed 93% remaining. So perhaps it is showing the combined level of both batteries. Fortunately I did buy it from Amazon so will return it if I find it is faulty - but if if it’s just the lack of separate battery meters, I can live with that, as long as the Elite strap battery is still actually working. I can totally see Meta possibly updating the headset to do this to simplify things do the user. Although I myself would prefer the separate battery meters, I suppose most people would just like one simple battery meter percentage only.
That’s along the lines of what I was thinking, I was actually assuming it was to reduce confusion for your average consumer who would just expect a battery percentage (which if correct is all that really matters)… the other way may technically be more accurate, but it can make it look like your Quest is about to die when in reality you’ve got plenty of time… has anyone with this issue confirmed if you continue to get extended playtime, or is it actually not working?
same, but now it works again😁 Try this: Push the Battery Indicator Button on Elite Strap longer than 12 Seconds. That should Reset the Battery Strap. After Power on Quest 3 it showed again both Battery and i got a Message that extended Battery was installed!
@@ChrisBTech , that’s relying on customer service knowing what they’re talking about, which can often be a stretch, and, can what they’re working on be flipping it back to how it used to display vs. actually “fixing” anything? In Ryan’s test it seemed to show the extended battery was still working, despite not being displayed, was that not the case in your tests?
Not always a big fan of meta but they have stood behind their hardware. If there is an defect they will address it in someway. If its really a issue I look forward to getting an extra headstrap just like I did on Q2 Elite Strap at meta's cost.
Mine also stopped working just like yours. But mine also will not charge. Furthermore, I tried plugging it into a Vive tracker like I would with a powerbank battery. Sure enough, it would charge the tracker for a few seconds, then stop. I can tell by the light on the tracker. Working with Meta for a possible return.
I get over 2 hrs with my quest as it is, the standard headstrap is woeful as you say.. I've ordered the ZyberVR headstrap and battery from China with free air shipping, only ordered on Friday and it's in the UK and left customs on a 48hr tracked delivery
My battery strap suffers from the very same problem and i do hope that there will be a firmware update soon to fix it. But Meta should have a 30-days-refund-policy. If you send them back the strap within 30 days you should get your money back.
Thanks. I subscribe for your update on this. Meta should be clear that many, including myself, will be holding off purchase of not just the strap, but the headset, games and other, until these early adopter problems are solved. I'm not spending that amount of money only to be frustrated. I don't like their evasive approach, so they better come out of this shining!
The exact same issue and response with their Pro controllers. I bought them last week and they work for about 5 minutes and then say “overheating” and turn off!… They say their engineering team is working on a fix. Sounds like their engineering team need to work on their QA!
I haven't had this issue yet. But I know there's one big difference. I never unplug the extended battery. I think you constantly unplugging might be causing the issue. And if you were to have it plugged in before you turn on your Quest 3, does it make a difference? (also, I haven't hit the button on the back, need to look to learn what that does....) Also keep in mind even with the BoboVR M3, they say it doesn't charge like it used to with the Quest 2. It just slows down how quickly the battery dies.
The bobo vr is a no go for me. I don’t like the halo with the floating headset design; especially if we are going to be more active with MR. I really hate the psvr 2 design which is somewhat similar. The weaker battery is a big issue and the software integration is also not ideal. I’ll be waiting until this is all fixed before I jump into quest 3.
I was having this issue with the elite strap w/battery. However, a headset update installed this evening. After updating the software and rebooting the headset, the headstrap battery was still not indicated. The headstrap battery had to be unplugged from the headset, then plugged back in again. The headset chimed and indicated that a secondary battery was now installed. Both headset and strap batteries showed up and indicated charge status. So it appears, the problem wasn't with the elite headstrap. The headset needed an update to properly use it, which it got today.
Thank you so much for the heads up. I have the elite strap with battery for the Quest 2 and while better than the default one I'm not really a fan of it, particularly how it gets drained by the headset even when it's off. This time around I'll suffer the default strap for the time being and get the Bobo VR whenever it's available.
At this point it's better to buy battery banks and slot them into the standard strap or using a 3d printed case to attach them to the stock strap easier. And still would be infinitely cheaper than the elite strap battery combo.
This must be a software issue coz my AC plug done the same thing started to charge the headset for few seconds then disconnects , I've not got an elite heastrap either , meta has just sent me out a new AC plug but I've yet to try it, my phone charger charges it fine so not sure whats going on .
I had this strap for the 3 and never ran across this. I ended up returning it since I have the BoboVR M2 and am waiting for my conversion kit (should be here in about 7-10 days). Problem with the BoboVR batteries are the drain of the quest 3 is higher then the 2 (which the bobo batteries were essentially made for), so while they will slow down the drain of the headset, by how much I do not know.
And BobboVR: is much more bulky for travel - 12cm longer case, higher, and wider. Kiwi design did a great job for Quest2 , I expect equally good, and compact-able set for Q3
I charged my quest and the strap to 100 both green the other night quest was off strap battery was connected .Used it the afternoon of the next day strap battery was at 88% never turned on the quest. Was on the main menu and did 4 game updates and looked at the store after about 10 to 15 min the strap battery was at 79% didn’t even play any games or apps. Was still looking at the store 10 15 min later the strap battery was at 69%. Played about 40 min of the new walkabout mini golf course exited and the strap battery was at 34% at this time the quest was at like 93%. I hear about people getting 3 to 4 hours combined with the strap. Mines dying fast even not doing anything on the quest menus I also loose that strap icon and have to remove and plug the strap battery back in sometimes and sometime it does not charge I plug it in through the strap usb c the quest charges and I come back later and the strap battery is at 0. It does give me more time but it seems a hassle but I can’t go back to the quest battery only. It dies to freakin fast. I could return it for another one but that one could be worse than the one I have.
Hold the button on the elite battery strap for 20 seconds and that "resets" it allowing it to work longer. Hopefully they release a software update that fix this issue.
I’ve had mine since launch and I’m getting close to five hours playtime playing Quest games and over five hours when I play pcvr via virtual desktop. It displays my total combined power plus it also splits it into the percentage of each battery. Just return it and get a new one like you would with an other defective product. Bobo vr batteries don’t charge Q3’s especially if the main battery is heavily discharged. Either by the oculus battery headstrap or a powerbank.
I am trying to return it, but meta stopped responding to my customer support emails. I did a chargeback on my credit card. I am happy to exchange or return it, but they won't let me.
I'm not having any issues. The main battery percentage is a combination of the two devices (e.g. 100% + 50% shows as 75%). Then if you hover over the main percentage it shows each individually. It didn't show them properly when I first put it in, but I just unplugged the battery from the headset and plugged it in again and it's been perfect ever since.
Yes I show this in the video. It will show it for a second but then the battery disconnects. I show emails from meta admitting that the device is faulty. I'm not misunderstanding the device
Yeah I brought mine a month ago off amazon and just realized now that it really wasnt working the whole time I was wondering what was causing the issue. And I think it is a software issue as well because my quest 1 PCVR cable was having issues connecting and reconnecting to my PC in which it seems to be similar to this. Also I had no idea it was a green light mine is always the orange light
I had a similar bad experience with Meta support. My headset, which I bought directly from Meta had bad pixels out of the box and support said I couldn't simply return the headset and my only option was rma where I have the unfortunately high chance to get a headset back that isn't that one, or not even a brand new one at all. I sent it out last Thursday to rma, and have yet to hear another thing back. Now hearing the elite strap is going to break down even once I do get the headset back is driving me to never buy Meta again. At least not directly. This was my first Meta product.
I was going to get it, then I looked at some images, it looked a bit cheap. Found the Bobo one. Look like it was much higher quality, decided to wait. Glad I did.
Mine was doing that as well. Only worked once charging passthrough and supplying battery. I had to get a replacement through meta. They replaced it and they also didn't make me send back the original. So now I have an extra $130 battery that doesn't deliver charge to anything. At least they replaced it.
Im having the same issues, i also plugged the elite headset into my phone and it charges for a seconed then stops charging. Im afraid to get a replacement (another one) or just grab different accessories? Cause meta isnt admitting the issues publicly as im searching.
My first elite strap was broken, it connected for a second before disconnecting. I tried everything and it didn't sort it. I bought another one, this time it gets picked up most of the time, but sometimes it doesn't charge past more than 70%, sometimes I need to reconnect it and I have no end of issues. I also bought the charging dock and it's so tempremental for charging. It's insane.
Wow. Did you give it some extended play time to see if the battery depletes quick or slow? Or maybe the extended battery is intended to charge the main battery as you use it but doesn't kick in until a lower %? Idk just spit balling. Thanks for the video
I had this issue, and metas first option to send me a refurbished headstrap after i send my new one back was mind boggling to me. I'm returning mine and will either go third party or purchase the Meta strap once they have their problems figured out.
It probably won't be fixed with a software update as even plugging the strap into my phone I'm still having the same issue I'm having on my headset. It's an issue with the firmware in the strap.
BoboVR has an issue with REALLY poor battery life (20 minutes in one example) so both of my top battery options have issues. I have the elite strap with battery and I've not yet had any problem (knock on wood) yet. Couple things I do that may or may not make any difference - #1 and biggest thing that helped with durability on my q2 elite battery - NEVER unplug it. The first I bought for my Q2 died after a month for no apparent reason... but the port on the quest 2 always felt sketchy to me (had one headset replaced because the port failed) so I just left the battery connected all the time after that and a couple years later I just passed it on and it's still working perfectly. Second thing is to shut off power to the headset when I'm not using it. Seems like standby still sucks a LOT of power and it takes forever to recharge if it's powered up. For the Q3 the final thing I did is buy the cordless charge dock... no idea if that helps (vs. plugging into the battery) but I've been super happy with how convenient the kit is (everything rechargeable and it recharges FAST even from basically dead... seems like less than an hour to recharge to a green state on the cordless charger).
I dont have that issue. My issue is when I power on the headset, I have to replug the usbc from the extended battery strap for each iteration. I bought mine through bedtbuy.
I rigged the elite strap from the oculus 2 onto the meta quest 3. Not as pretty but works but the battery from elite strap 2 (not 3) doesn’t say if it’s working or not. Tbh I’m not sure I want to keep trying after hearing all this. But the strap works just fine
My biggest issues I I can’t get “Hey Facebook” to work, with bright images there’s a lot of glare, and in some apps the microphones are choppy/clipping. And the Charging Dock doesn’t always start the Elite strap, sometimes I got to re-seat it in there. I’m always having to reset the boundary. And I only get 2hrs tops of MR use before it dies. But I still like Quest 3 lol
I tried three "elite" straps, one from meta and two third parties, all broke for my quest 2. I'm not trusting any elite straps for the Quest 3. You can totally make the default strap comfortable if you take like 2 minutes to adjust it. Mine is super comfortable now especially with a silicone face cover.
@@zachariusthethird6627 I play mainly PCVR, the Link cable lasts me a good 5 hours before I have to charge again and the only stand alone game I play is Real Fishing VR which doesn't tax the hardware at all so I usually have my fill of the game before the headset dies.
@@zachariusthethird6627 When all else fails if you simply must have the headset last you for hours on end, just keep the headset charging with a long USB cable. John Carmack a former employee of Oculus said it's perfectly fine playing with the headset charging. You're never overcharging it when you play, you are only prolonging your playtime.
So why is it that when you get a new unit, it works as intended? I think some units are faulty and some are not judging by some of the comments from the users on reddit
Hi, if yours is draining in 1 hour should maybe have it replaced? Playing dungeons of eternity wich i assume is very taxing on the system, it last around 2 hours.
@@ChrisBTech interesting, i do have it disabled now but i do remember doing a small % test with 120 and it extrapolated something around 1:30+ hours. but yeah that could be it?
At 3:52 i show emails from Meta where they admit there's a problem with this product.
I didnt make this video because I'm having a problem. I made it because 1. Many people complained of this issue in my last video and 2. Meta admits there's a problem. This product is defective until further notice.
I thought you needed 1k subs to get monetized and 4k hours watched? Is there another way, great video too mate, thank you for the advice, I'm a small content creator and buying that strap would have really pissed me off, thanks again
Really concerning, hopefully it's fixed soon via software.
They had issues with the quest 2 battery straps physically breaking near launch too.
I'll tell some of my friends to watch it and help you with the watch hours.
It maybe a headset compatibility issue. Should we not buy them either?
is it a hardware or software, don't know if I need to return my elite strap
I've seen many posts about it before purchasing, and when I received it two days ago, it worked as expected. I initially thought it might be a quality control issue, but hearing that yours was functioning and then stopped is truly concerning. Thank you for your video and honesty regarding the product. holy...
Is yours still working?
@@Partyfreaker I returned it and bought a normal one without battery
@@Partyfreaker oh yeah mine broke few days after this comment
I’m having this issue as well. Thank you for speaking out.
Chris I feel like you're really trustworthy and have an everyman perspective. I personally think you should review a bunch of other tech. I'd definitely watch.
That's the plan. Thank you :)
Me too!
Thank you for your honesty. I agree the Bobo vr and you hit the nail on the head. Oddly I bought this because your review and haven’t had issue yet. Fingers crossed
I'm glad you saw the update then. There were comments on my video with the same problem and I was like hmm mine's fine... Until it wasn't
Yeah my first one died on day 3 for me
@@ChrisBTech it’s really poor quality control. I’m hoping it’s a firmware bug in the strap that can be patched and not low quality components. It will be an expensive recall if it’s the latter, a big dampener on what should be a great launch, the headset is amazing otherwise!
@@Nemesis2K - Did it die again? The storm is brewing
@@automationcellar8725 so far no, it hasn’t died yet. But I’m not gonna hold my breath any time soon,

Mine is like the video, it dissappears and I don't know if is charging it or not
@@ricarpalver9757 At first it disappeared, but after a while stayed on
Same experience
My elite strap battery works but if I charge them together it takes over 8 houres. So I charge them separatly and the elite battery go to 70%
What about the elite strap from Oculus 2? I rigged it to fit the 3 for now without the 3D printed clips I’m using a zip tie on each side and it’s very comfortable but the battery when I plug that in, the % doesn’t go up but it does say it’s charging.
I should probably know better but the batteries may have total different watts so I won’t try it again until I hear confirmation.
But for those wanting to save money the elite strap with battery can still be used and again the comfort is what it’s about. Now about that battery 🤔
The elite battery strap has been fantastic for me do far, no issues with mine.
Does it just turn on and charge automatically or do you have to press the button to make it start charging the headset?
How do you charge it, with a dock, or 1 cord into the strap, while the strap is plugged into the quest?
Luckily I haven’t had a single issue with mine
@@theclassicgamer20 how long you've been using it? I've been using it for two days and now I'm thinking of returning it if it's not a software problem...
@@theclassicgamer20bullsht
learned my lesson from quest2's elite strap.
Came over from Jaybratts video, good coverage!
I have the same issue, got this video on my homescreen and am happy they are working on a fix. Also I know you from dirty tesla, great stuff!
From what I've heard the Link Cable doesn't charge the Quest 3 enough to keep it charged
I now can say for certain it does not keep the new battery for the external charged enough
Same issue here...and Support knows about it but is being unhelpful, of course...and I'm a fan of what Meta is doing.
Which file on printables did you download for the BoboVR M1?

It means you get 70% if you reload the strap alone. To get 100% you have to connect it with the quest 3. Strange savety but ok. The strap battery manager have to verify you not load the strap while using.
Played all night plugging my bobovr2 batteries into headset while holding them in my pocket. That worked. Thank you for heads-up!
I bought the Bobovr m3 on October 13th after the Amazon prime day sales. It's around $95 for the headstrap and 2 battery packs with charger.
Try kiwi design elite battery strap, it has an elite style and also an external battery
I bought the BoboVr M2 Pro and 'modified" the connecting brackets. Works great.
You are correct
It does show a combo of both, but if you "mouse" over it, it should show both the headset and strap battery.
it does, most of the time at least@@ChrisBTech
Okay so it's not showing but are we getting the extra few hours or not?
Nope. I have the same issue and for the first few seconds it combines the percentage as the average. Then it just goes back to the headset battery only and it runs only on the headset battery. Very unhappy.
I can’t believe meta has not paused sales on this strap yet.
They have stoped in germany. Unobtainable.
@@Stefan1978GER did we got an update yet, the chargine issue is the only reason why i didnt bought the meta quest 3 yet.
mine broke today and they gave me a replacement in like 20 minutes of showing proof that i own the quest 3 and elite strap. actually super helpful
2nd video I've seen about this issue and in the other, it seems a replacement official elite strap battery fixed the issue.
I found the answer. The quest 3 uses Qualcomm quick charge 4. When using chargers make sure you are using USB 3.0 to thunderbolt, and a 25W power bank charger to get it to ACTUALLY charge. Regular power banks don't put out enough juice to keep the Quest 3 alive.
so can't u just use the power cord/charger that came with the quest 3?
@@joeyjoe003 You can but you have to make sure the outlet or battery you are using is rated for 20 watts output or higher or the quest will drain faster than it charges
I had bought a off brand with no name head strap. Its just called quest 3 head strap. Its a knock off from the BOBO head strap and its very comfy for long use. My last 2 head straps were from BOBO. Im also using a INIU brick charger for extended play and it works great. I just put it in my pocket and I dont worry about battery life EVER
Who would’ve thought that they could screw up the elite strap WORSE than last time
😂
Try this:
1. Connect the Elite Strap to Quest 3
I did reset it, the chat guy gave me the same instructions, but it still won't work
@@ChrisBTech Have you charged the Strap a little bit alone.
Really stopped to working, no more extra Power? Or only no more Show the Extra Battery in the Display?
@@DavidMasar78 they stop working, it’s not that it doesn’t show you that there is power it’s that they stop being able to give any power at all.
Watch the video and his recording shows the issue perfectly.
Tested it with my iPad as well and would not give any power to that either.
For the price of it you'd think they'd put some effort in to getting it right.
My q2 elite strap does this to. It still works technically so doesn't bother me.
That’s along the lines of what I was thinking, I was actually assuming it was to reduce confusion for your average consumer who would just expect a battery percentage (which if correct is all that really matters)… the other way may technically be more accurate, but it can make it look like your Quest is about to die when in reality you’ve got plenty of time… has anyone with this issue confirmed if you continue to get extended playtime, or is it actually not working?
same, but now it works again😁
Try this: Push the Battery Indicator Button on Elite Strap longer than 12 Seconds. That should Reset the Battery Strap. After Power on Quest 3 it showed again both Battery and i got a Message that extended Battery was installed!
In the emails I posted, Meta said there is a problem and engineers are working on it
@@ChrisBTech , that’s relying on customer service knowing what they’re talking about, which can often be a stretch, and, can what they’re working on be flipping it back to how it used to display vs. actually “fixing” anything? In Ryan’s test it seemed to show the extended battery was still working, despite not being displayed, was that not the case in your tests?
Im also having problems.. as of now it worked for 1 day then i had the same issue.. iits still not fixed
Not always a big fan of meta but they have stood behind their hardware. If there is an defect they will address it in someway. If its really a issue I look forward to getting an extra headstrap just like I did on Q2 Elite Strap at meta's cost.
They are NOT addressing it. I've been in Whatsapp for hours even trying to get someone to answer.
Great video, thanks for the heads up!
Mine stopped working when I charged it through the port on the eliete strap itself, but then it started working again when I used the dock.
I got mine since last Saturday and have been using it everyday at the moment. I'll see if I get the same problem and report back.
My battery strap suffers from the very same problem and i do hope that there will be a firmware update soon to fix it. But Meta should have a 30-days-refund-policy. If you send them back the strap within 30 days you should get your money back.
So i just joined this club. Any update on what to do if this happens?
I've heard the V59 update fixes it but I don't have that update yet 🤷♂️
They simply stopped responding to my emails. If it wasn't meta I'd think this company was a huge scam
The exact same issue and response with their Pro controllers. I bought them last week and they work for about 5 minutes and then say “overheating” and turn off!…
They say their engineering team is working on a fix. Sounds like their engineering team need to work on their QA!
OMG just returned mine today. Had the exact same issue. Strap is fine, battery stopped transferring power
I haven't had this issue yet. But I know there's one big difference. I never unplug the extended battery. I think you constantly unplugging might be causing the issue. And if you were to have it plugged in before you turn on your Quest 3, does it make a difference? (also, I haven't hit the button on the back, need to look to learn what that does....)
Also keep in mind even with the BoboVR M3, they say it doesn't charge like it used to with the Quest 2.
I'll check again tonight, thanks
I wonder if the M3 will address this.
And BobboVR: is much more bulky for travel - 12cm longer case, higher, and wider. Kiwi design did a great job for Quest2 , I expect equally good, and compact-able set for Q3
I have purchased 2 512gb Quests, both with elite battery strap... BOTH HAVE THIS ISSUE!!!
As I showed in the emails with customer support they suggested the same thing and that has not fixed it.
Thanks for bringing attention to it
I'm not having any issues.
@@ChrisBTechI think you're right that it's likely just a software fix required. It's all in-house so probably relatively straightforward.
This has just happened to me today! Gonna raise a ticket with them shortly! Livid how this has just stopped working after a couple of week of use!
Really? They are saying I have to return it before they will send one out.
Bought mine from Amazon and it doesn’t work after the first day
I have one but I am returning it to Best Buy. Disappointed with battery life in general.
Thank you very much for this information and for keeping it real.
Wowww, so crazy something that simple doesn’t work out of the box. But yeah I’m sure some sort of software/firmware update will fix it soon
I had this issue, and metas first option to send me a refurbished headstrap after i send my new one back was mind boggling to me. I'm returning mine and will either go third party or purchase the Meta strap once they have their problems figured out.
For some reason the 120hz setting being enabled was the cause of the fast battery drain. Switching it off my battery life has doubled.
Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a try
@@ChrisBTech I’m guessing it reverts back to 90hz? I’ve honestly not noticed a difference since switching it off.
Below 120hz is literally unplayable for true gamers. 500hz monitor gang member here
@@dyeace What a dumb response lol
@@TXplorer1 confirmed casual
Great I ordered it earlier today lmao... I guess I'll make a video about that too when I get it
I dont have that issue. My issue is when I power on the headset, I have to replug the usbc from the extended battery strap for each iteration. I bought mine through bedtbuy.
I ordered one after watching your previous video. It’s arriving today. Any idea if they are like this or is it just affecting a certain percentage.
That doesn't solve the battery being shit but
@@zachariusthethird6627 I play mainly PCVR, the Link cable lasts me a good 5 hours before I have to charge again and the only stand alone game I play is Real Fishing VR which doesn't tax the hardware at all so I usually have my fill of the game before the headset dies.
I really appreciate the update!
I’d say this is a software issue, not a hardware issue. My bet is that it will be fixed in the next 2-3 updates.
Someone mentioned it could be the 120hz setting, which I do have enabled. You?
@@ChrisBTech interesting, i do have it disabled now but i do remember doing a small % test with 120 and it extrapolated something around 1:30+ hours. but yeah that could be it?
Tysm for bringing it to my attention!!! Subbed :)
Ty 🙏
Glad to know I’m not crazy, it worked awesome the first day but pretty sure last night my battery was draining twice as fast and wasn’t working
I've been using mine since release and just randomly now I start to get this issue, so strange that its worked fine all this time.
I’m as much into VR as I am into Tesla. This is crazy you make VR content!
This channel will be all tech in general :) but yeah I love vr
@@ChrisBTech I hope they get you a new Strap ASAP. I like to shop at Best Buy cause I can walk in and pick it up or return.
