I found this out on Friday, I'd been using a ugreen capture card and the USB camera app with my work laptop for ages after finding out how to do it on one of your previous videos, but tried the meta hdmi link app and I was getting about 2 frames per second, checked my ugreen capture card and it was usb 2.0, so think this was the problem, ordered a 3.0 one off Amazon for £18 and tried it today and alls good, getting 60 fps now
This works on my Quest 2. I was able to get the screen size to be about the size of an 85inch tv which is much bigger than the screen size you got in your video.
I'm using the elgato 4k 60 cam link capture card and although it doesn't charge the quest while i use the card it works flawlessly, what i have discovered is its not the capture card its what source is connected to the device that determines the FPS i used my xbox and ps5 and got 60 FPS used my Ipad and Iphone and it was 9 FPS also if your capture card is not displaying properly as i ran into this issue just restart the source device and the quest 3 and wow! now i'm playing animal crossing new horizon on a 100 inch screen coming from my nintendo switch into my quest 3 headset. one last thing i have tested Nintendo switch oled, xbox series x, Ps5, Laptop and my Apple TV and its crazy my best feature is watching Apple TV all apps a go on a 100 plus inch screen Great Job Meta.

Hello, I have now received my capture card and was able to test it a bit. I tried it with Samsung DeX and with the Switch and I'm satisfied. It maintains 50 to 60 fps at 1080p. The only thing I noticed with Samsung DeX is that when you change the window size in the Meta Quest, the text becomes a bit blurry. I suspect this is simply due to the app itself. What I found a bit annoying is that the input side is nicely long, but the output side is very short. This means that the capture card is literally hanging in your face. So considering an extension on that side is worth thinking about. I used a USB 3.0 extension because I absolutely want to charge my Quest 3. Therefore, I bought a USB adapter that can charge USB-C and has a USB 3.0 connection for data input. You can also charge the device you're streaming from via the capture card's power delivery input. This is important if you want to stream the Switch, for example. Unfortunately, it doesn't work without PD. Here are the names of the devices. All found on Amazon. I'm confused as to what this accomplishes. Like, why have this? Virtual desktop costs $20 and gets rid of all the issues you were having. Is there a functionality im not thinking of that makes ot worth the extra cost and trouble shooting?
Virtual desktop allows you to send your PC (and other thing) to Quest, 100%. This is allowing you to send ANY HDMI outputting device into your headset as a screen. This could be a PS5, PS4, Xbox, BluRay player etc etc.
Laptop on an airplane would be great. If you turned the screen brightness to zero you could probably also get back like 15% more battery life depending on your config.
There is another video just released with another guy with an accent in dame subject with the right capture card and better cable management options....Roland's reality or something like that
There are ways of using hubs too to allow pass through power. I'm going to try and do a video on that. I guess it all depends on individual use cases. A quick blast for an hour with a PS5 for example or would be fine
But why? Seems the most pointless thing ever. The quest isn't going to be used to store, no hdmi input us going to be much use, I'd rather use my pc or phone in passthrough. What a lame and seemingly pointless, cable intensive waste of space and time. Fair video though dude, I think they shouldn't needn't of released it. So much more features could have been implemented for better purpose. I see no use at all for such function.
Hi!! Cheers for the comment. Totally get you're coming from. I guess everyone has different needs and requirements. Some will find use for the feature, others I guess will find it useless 👍🏻
@husondiy I just don't see it.. Unless using vr production stuff it could have value there... but essentially it's still 2d in vr, so I still don't see it.. 😕 🤔 😐 if it's useful to someone I guess...
As a photographer this is extremely helpful for virtual monitoring of my camera feed. I take a lot of macro photos so my camera is usually closer to my subject than it is to my face, making it a bit of an eye strain to look at my screen and figure out what my camera's seeing. This solves that problem by giving me a movable, resizable output feed while still keeping my hands free to focus/zoom/etc.
@@ComplexAutistMaybe that they are playing it on a virtual 100 or more inch screen? I have a 65 in TV that I stream movies but the fact that I can do it on a gigantic virtual screen is quite pleasing... Doesn't necessarily have to be a VR content media....

@@husondiy unlikely and it's fruitless to hope a poor copycat app is going to perform better than the original - especially as concerns Meta clones
If i didnt already have a 100" tv in my living room i would so use my meta quest 3 to mirror my consols or computer like this.
Yeh 100% a use case! What TV you got? Sounds epic at 100 inch
@@husondiy samsung du9000. It's 98" but I like to round up to 100 xD
@@husondiy I just thought of something! So back in the days maybe like 4 years ago I would play games that were on my computer on my phone remotely using one of those remote gaming apps. So with this new hdmi link feature I can mow mirror my phone which is playing my pc games remotely onto my meta quest 3. So basically I can take my big screen gaming experience anywhere! Hell yasss! This is going to be dope.
Air link?
Yeh that's good for PC 👍🏻
Its almost as if Facecrook and the rest of High Tech hates humans. They put this out in the most painful way imaginable. Ive tried 3 different capture cards that all work perfectly fine and this Facecrook garbage refuses to see ANY Of them.
Frustrating!!!
Playstation I'd like to see if works...
Video coming very soon with PS4, PS5 and Nintendo Switch 😀

I'm confused as to what this accomplishes. Like, why have this? Virtual desktop costs $20 and gets rid of all the issues you were having. Is there a functionality im not thinking of that makes ot worth the extra cost and trouble shooting?
Virtual desktop allows you to send your PC (and other thing) to Quest, 100%. This is allowing you to send ANY HDMI outputting device into your headset as a screen. This could be a PS5, PS4, Xbox, BluRay player etc etc.
There is people which doesn't have a stable and fast connection required to have a smooth experience.
Laptop on an airplane would be great. If you turned the screen brightness to zero you could probably also get back like 15% more battery life depending on your config.
@wilferd even there is a setting to turn off laptop screen when you plug a hdmi
There is another video just released with another guy with an accent in dame subject with the right capture card and better cable management options....Roland's reality or something like that
Yeah, buddy, does it work for quest 2? Not everyone is as rich as you are
With a minimum wage job you could buy a Q3 in a week, lol. What, you dont have a job because you play too many games? Im shocked I tell you...
@@Despiser25 what a dumb comment, sorry
It should, but I'm going to test and do another video soon with a few options
@@husondiy thank you
what a muppet.
Great, cheers 😅

Making tutorials for crappy Meta clones of good applications isn't really helpful to anyone
This is completely usless imo because it seems to have no power passthrough so your quest will not even last 1 movie.
There are ways of using hubs too to allow pass through power. I'm going to try and do a video on that. I guess it all depends on individual use cases. A quick blast for an hour with a PS5 for example or would be fine
@husondiy I'd be interested in that. I'd like to give this a try, but I have BOBOVR battery strap.
@husondiy I just don't see it..
This solves that problem by giving me a movable, resizable output feed while still keeping my hands free to focus/zoom/etc.
can we connect samsung dex without cable, capture card and or internet? flight for example?
@@ComplexAutistMaybe that they are playing it on a virtual 100 or more inch screen? I have a 65 in TV that I stream movies but the fact that I can do it on a gigantic virtual screen is quite pleasing... Doesn't necessarily have to be a VR content media....
