I was going to experiment on some small skinny tumblers but wasn’t sure exactly how to approach it. Your video is extremely helpful. You’ve probably saved me considerable time & money! Thanks!

Infusible ink paper sheets from HTV work amazing I’ve been making 20oz tumblers in a Cricut mug press using these kinda sheets and they always turn out great, only mistake I ever made using them is leaving them in the mug press to long and then they will turn out like that one just like it, less time I think it would have turned out great. 4 mins each side max I also use silicone wraps.
Great DIY Tips! First time I ever watched one of your videos! I purchased a Mug Press 3 days ago and still have NOT unboxed it! I'm nervous about getting started 😬
Oh yeah, I love that you showed the mistakes!!! That makes your demonstration "real" for us crafters. You see, we learn from mistakes. I LEARNED A LOT! And your darling little pup is so cute 😍
You are SO kind! Thanks so much for watching. 😀It took us a couple of days to take ours out of the box as well, but once we did, it was so much fun! You're going to love it. @@JustMightDIY Hi JZ & Daniel, I have just looked at Cricut machines here in the UK and they are just under $500 for the one I found. Too much for me to pay for something I probably wouldn't use very often. Looking forward to your next video. Take care both. Cheers, Huw
That makes sense. The larger ones are an investment, but they do have smaller ones (the Joy). Here in the U.S., there are also a lot on the second hand market that can be found...if you ever get the urge to try one out. Either way, happy DIYing!
I used my mug heat press that came with my heat press when making tumblers with infusible ink tumblers. I had to press the top and bottom sections separately and turned occasionally w/in 5 mins each half and the color was even both ends. I did have blotches on a couple and the ink ran some covering up apart of the letter A in the design. Frustrated with seams and ghosting on the very top and bottom.
This is a bit tricky to answer. We can say that the image itself was printed at 8.2" wide x 9.3" high. We left extra white on the paper on the top and bottom to allow for taping. We trimmed one of the sides flush with the design and left a little extra on the other side to allow for a slight overlap at the seam. Hope this helps!
I absolutely love your videos! I did everything in your video for the 20 ounce skinny tumblers and my tumblers their colours don’t seem to be vibrant. I am using an Epson 2800 sublimation printer, and hippo sublimation ink. I don’t know what I can be doing wrong? I have watched other videos where people leave the tumbler in for three minutes and 20 seconds and only turn it twice. Any tips on why my tumblers may not look vibrant? Thank you so much!
Hey! We’re so glad you like our videos! Are you using a high quality print setting? And what kind of paper are you using? As for the length of time, we’ve found that this amount of time works well - if you leave it in too long, you can overlook the sublimation, which will affect the color.
Thanks! We got them locally at Champion Crafter Supply - there’s a link in the description. If they’re sold out, search online for 20 oz sublimation tumbler, and just confirm that they have straight sides (not tapered). Happy DIYing!
What if you have a silicone wrap that fits around the whole tumbler so you don't need to use any insert, no rotations except for flipping the top. How long should you leave in mug press before flipping the top?
Hi, thank you for this awesome tutorial. I am very new at this a little hesitant. Your tutorial has helped me to understand how to sublimate tumblers. I have one question, with the 20oz tumblers do I have to leave the space at the bottom of the mug press open? Or can I place it all the way down in the mug press? Also when I turn it each time I must adjust the silicone, correct?
Hey - we’re glad this tutorial is helpful! When your tumbler is upside down, don’t put it all the way down over the plate at the bottom - that will cause ghosting at the top rim of your tumbler. Make sure that it’s higher than the plate at the bottom of the press. As for the silicone, we keep ours in the same general position and rotate the tumbler instead. Happy subbing!
@@JustMightDIY Ok. So just to be clear that means when the tumbler is upright I place it all the way down, but when it is upside down I don't put it all the way down over the plate at the bottom? I apologize if this is a silly question. I am so new at this, just trying to understand the process. Thank you in advance for your patience with me.
Hey! That’s not a silly question, and we’re happy to help! You are absolutely correct on that. When your tumbler is upright, you can sit it on the plate (just be sure to cover the plate with something so it doesn’t scratch the bottom of your tumbler as you turn it). Then when you flip the tumbler upside down, don’t put it all the way down over the plate - you’ll get ghosting on the rim. You’ve got this!
Thanks! So glad you liked the video. Yes - we converted the Epson EcoTank 2720 into a sublimation printer (using special sublimation ink). We also printed the image on A-Sub paper, which is special paper designed to soak up more ink than regular paper, so you get more vibrant presses. :)
Might be a stupid question (I apologize if it is). I have a vinyl cutter from US Cutter, so I don’t have a Cricut, do you need a circut cutter to use the press? Thanks!!
Definitely NOT a stupid question! You don’t have to have a Cricut cutting machine to use the mug press. You do, however, need some sort of sublimation material - either a printer that uses sublimation ink or the Cricut Infusible Ink sheets (for mugs, not tumblers). However, we’re not sure if you can cut the infusible ink sheets on the US Cutter, so you may want to check into that if you don’t have a way to print with sublimation ink.
@@JustMightDIY ohh makes sense! I don’t have a sublimation printer. I want to get one but holy 💩 they are expensive 🤣. Thanks so much for the quick reply!! Subscribed!!
😂😂😂 Traditional sublimation printers ARE expensive, but you can actually convert some Epson inkjet printers into sublimation printers! We’re releasing a video later today to show you how to do just that. 😉 Stay tuned (and thanks SO much for subscribing)! ❤️
Hey there! We’re just popping back by to let you know that we published the video about converting the Epson inkjet printer into a sublimation printer. Check it out if you’re interested!
Back the messed up ones off and do a dark image and then you didn't waste or use a vinyl wrap or use printable glow n dark htv to cover it up after you back image off no waste.
@@JustMightDIY figured you would as its was a little old just just in case I thought I add it. I was thinking about getting a mug press for me as the other tumblers press are heavy n big. I wouldn't be selling just for me as I like all sorts if cup even like for each major holiday and ect. And for my 8 year old. I've never made a tumbler but wouldn't mind trying im looking into doing glow n dark pen with images
Thanks great video.Very helpful. Do you have to mirror the images to sublimated? I want to do one with words. First time that I'm going to try sublimation
Hey! We pressed it in thirds since we have the silicone on the side adding extra pressure. So 3x on the bottom and then flip and 3x on the top. 60 seconds for each section.
Wow it sure came out beautiful! I don't know much about this, but isn't there a way to remove the designs on the first two fails so you don't lose your cups?
Hey! We haven't looked into trying to remove or cover up the designs just yet. We may try a cover up vs. a removal, as that will likely be easier. But if we do figure out removal, we'll be sure to come back here and let you know!
@@JustMightDIY you can place the tumbler in an oven at 400 for 1 to 1-1/4 hours and the design fades out. Then you can sub a dark design. If that’s not to your satisfaction, use it to make a regular epoxy tumbler.
@@sharonbrown7715 Hey there! We did end up figuring that out after a while and even have a video now showing how to Unsub/resublimate. SO glad it’s possible to re-use messed up tumblers! Thanks for watching and for sharing the tip. 😉
The silicone insert is sooooo much smarter than the cardboard! I was thinking the exact same thing when I watched her video last week. I wonder about buying a silicone wrap and if it would be thick enough since it would wrap around the entire tumbler. What do you guys think? Also the tumblers that you used and that you provided the link for...do you feel they are GOOD quality tumblers? Have you used this company before?
Thanks!! We don't have a silicone wrap, so we're not sure how thick they usually run. It *might* work with the 30oz, as there's less of a gap to fill. However, you'll prob want to get one that doesn't have one of those big buckles, but that's just a guess. Let us know if you try it - we'd love to know if it works!
@@JustMightDIY Yeah that's the only thing I was thinking is that they seem fairly thin. I noticed that you guys didn't use a protective sheet like butcher paper or anything. You aren't concerned about your Sub paper bleeding onto the silicone of the mug press? Do you like the quality of the tumblers from the company you ordered from? You gotta do more of these too!! I wanna see! LOL
@@pattibaileydesigns Hey there again! So for the protective sheet - you don't need one for the Infusible Ink Sheets (they're backed in plastic), so if you're doing the regular sized coffee mugs, no protective sheet is needed. For the pineapple graphic that we printed on the A-Sub paper, we forgot the butcher paper for the first 30 seconds or so (which is why you hear me freak out in the video during the full press portion). We ended up grabbing the tumbler out and using the butcher paper for the exact reason you mentioned. Luckily, even after all of the subbing time with the turns/flip, the A-Sub paper didn't bleed through to the protective paper. We still plan on using butcher paper though, because we don't want any bleed through onto the press. For your question on the quality of the tumblers - they do seem to be good quality. We've only had them for a few days, but they feel pretty good and subbed so nicely. We recommend them at this point and will update in the description if that changes overtime for some reason, or if we find anything better. Hope this helps! We do plan to do more testing and hope to release more videos on this topic. :)

Thanks so much for the tips! We actually prefer silicone for both - more longevity of the materials!
Try a small wine tumbler. Great video
Ooh good idea! Thanks for watching.
What if you have a silicone wrap that fits around the whole tumbler so you don't need to use any insert, no rotations except for flipping the top. How long should you leave in mug press before flipping the top?
Hey! We haven’t tried this method so we can’t comment on the time. Just make sure that the entire surface of the design is getting direct heat.
Dear,we offer the silicone wrap for 16 oz 20 oz skinny tumbler print by cricut mug press,do you want to take it have a test?
So do we need sub ink for the printer if we have the sub paper?
Yes - you need both the sublimation ink and sublimation paper. Hope this helps!
Great thanks! I am confused when you say 60 seconds each side. Do you not just wait for the lights to get to the end and stop?
Hey! We use a watch/phone to time the 60 seconds. The lights are way longer than that on the mug press. Hope this helps!
Once the cute little doggie came into the video, I basically tuned you guys out. Sorry, what were you saying? 😀
Roadie is the real star of the show. We’re just the supporting cast. 😂 🐶 😂
Cool
Thanks!
I know you taped the bottom of the tumbler but did you tape the top as well?
Hello! Yes - we rolled the top edge over and taped on the inside. Hope this helps!
Awesome 😎
Thanks!
Your excitement was awesome cool project. You said you bought the image does it have to be a special print?
Thanks! So glad you liked the video. Yes - we converted the Epson EcoTank 2720 into a sublimation printer (using special sublimation ink). We also printed the image on A-Sub paper, which is special paper designed to soak up more ink than regular paper, so you get more vibrant presses. :)
congrats on you success on this video!! right on!!!
@@JustMightDIY saw it!! Awesome!! I have a similar printer but it’s canon. And has reg ink in it. I’m going to look into getting the epsom one! Ty!
Back the messed up ones off and do a dark image and then you didn't waste or use a vinyl wrap or use printable glow n dark htv to cover it up after you back image off no waste.
Hey again! Since we made this video, we did learn how to un-sub by baking the image off, but we do appreciate the tips! 😉
Hello! Yes - be sure to mirror your sublimation images before printing. Happy crafting!
@@JustMightDIY thank you 😊
How many seconds you need to press it for on the mug press?
Hello! We included the time we pressed in the video. Thanks for your question!
How many times an minutes did you start and turn it up and down? Thank you
Hey! We pressed it in thirds since we have the silicone on the side adding extra pressure. So 3x on the bottom and then flip and 3x on the top. 60 seconds for each section.
@@JustMightDIY thank you 😊
I used the infusible ink.
The mug press is awesome!
okay guys i'm about to try it! g2g!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
Woo hoo!! Good luck. 🍀
Thanks so much for taking the time to respond in such detail! Looking forward to more of your videos.
Of course! We love connecting with other makers. 🙏🏻
Will you share the link for the silicone you used?
Hey there! Links to all materials we used are in the description! 😊
I love the design on the yellow mug! Where is it from?
Thank you! We made that one ourselves. 😊
Any chance you would share, or sell?
