Bas has the BEST stories of any MMA fighter. Every time he talks about his experiences it's entertaining and interesting from start to finish. And the guy's got a sense of humor, too.
Had been in a club at Stockholm, Bas just fought and owned the bouncers few days before, people there were still talking about it... The guy is a legend!
I had dinner with Bas one time. He told me and my buddy some wild stories from back in the Pride FC days. The guy is every bit as fun in person as he is on film. Still one of my all time favs.
I'm glad when I learned TKD, I learned from a guy who moved over from Korea and taught old school TKD. We learned how to use our hands, of course use our legs, and he even taught Hapkido. And a few days a week he would teach a small bit of wrestling and ground game.
Well that only applies to some schools I guess, because traditional martial arts is a easy sport to make money off of which make you end up playing over $1,000+ for gear and belt tests, and that's not counting monthly payments and tournament fees. Black belts only show that you've mastered the basics, and are ready to move onto advanced techniques. Most people don't understand this, and think they're godlike in actual fights when they're only trained for tournaments or in-school sparring.
yes, in every single video he tells something interesting about his life. As he's into business at the moment (with Bas Ruttens Body Action System) he should consider filming a dvd about his life. it'd sell well :)
It depends on the organization or school. Traditionally most Korean martial arts use red belt instead of brown, but some do use brown instead of red. There are some organizations and styles that use both brown and red belt. The two main taekwondo groups; ITF and WTF only use red belt, but the American Taekwondo Association uses both belts in their system.
After I practiced muaythai for years I got into many street fights. In one fight I just got my ear ring pulled of, that is the last time I went on a fight. I then thought that I wanted to learn a martial art that's in white uniform and effective in street fight, because I can see that I'm improving and of course it looks cool. So I practiced Shotokan-Karate for a year and I just got my green belt last month. Now I do Bas Rutten's MMA workout everyday, and that really strengthen me up!
i love my dutch brother ! it was a good ting to move to america for his career. one of the best fighter and for sure oneof the most friendly and funny! Bas je bent echt een held!!!!!!!!
I practiced Aikido when I was in grade 7 and stopped when I had orange belt, because I get bullied and I realized that I couldn't use the wrist lock against him. Every day I went to school and get bullied, and I couldn't fight them. I then joined judo club in my school when I was grade 9 and I started to get stronger. Strange that when my muscle started to be bigger the bullies started to be nice with me. I practiced judo for half a year and I started doing Muay Thai since then.
Every Taekwondo student Is learning for the Championship or matches..... Every day every night perfecting thier kicks..... ..but it's important to practice the self-defense punches and techniques half the time..... Because that is important for the street........ Even after ur the national level champion like me..... All the best kids
I wanna see Bas make a video of him telling us about the time he was here in Stockholm Sweden on a club when the bouncers went after him and he beat a few of them up.
I've always liked Bas. Besides being a great fighter, the dude has got more charisma than the majority of people put on a screen. That guy could tell a story about anything and it'd at least be interesting if not downright entertaining.
The title is misleading. While he may greatly prefer circular for himself(Kyukushin and Mauy Thai), he never said TKD was inferior or not practical in a street fight. He may have insinuated that his TKD dojang was a mcdojo or mcdojang granted.
True training starts from first black belt, that's when we're beginners, everything before are prerequisites! So yeah like you say, definitely not godlike!
@DuskfallBand I agree. A good fighter who utilized tkd can be equally as effective as other martial arts.. It's how well the athelete is trained, and how well he uses the skills he has..
@Dungarth Thanks :) That's exactly what I do...I'll start learning taekwondo in 2 weeks and then I'll see if I want to learn a different martial art...
what are you talking about, Joe and Bas would be the perfect match. Joe is the only commentator who explains all the transitions in details for those who dont know the ground game
TKD has some hella useful kicks, stance switches, and tricky foot-work. Combine TKD with a tad bit of boxing for angles, and judo to keep it standing and ur ready to go.
I know how bas felt when he saw bruce lee. It's the same feeling I got when I saw the Harlem Globetrotters in Scooby-Doo and Michael Jordan in Space jam. It changed my life. If it waasn't for them, I wouldn't have wanted to play in the NBA.
In some cases TKD academy or schools change color... example purple instead of blue, brown instead red... but not to many do it since the original colors are white, yellow, green, blue, red and black
Check it out Bas, it's been a long time this story about you on you tube and guys are still saying your a good man. You could have made up a lot of lies but you didn't. You kept it real, right on.
its great to see people who where bullied become great people.
all kids who are picked on please hang in there and become strong
I could listen to Bas talk all day long. So engaging. He seems like he'd be a really cool dude...just don't poke him in the chest!
its unbelievable that scary guys likr him, mike tyson dolph lundgren etc, actually got bullied.
It probably gave them the motivation, drive (and in Tyson's case hatred) to keep training and become the best.
@@Johnnythefirst The best more like the Beast
well yeah, this is why they are scary
Thats why they became badaas they choose to learn how to fight and fight back instead of asking the teachers and principal to handle the bully
So true lol
Unfukin believable!! When is the movie coming out?? This man redefines the word "Legend"!!
Bas a real martial artist and a real bad ass.
Bas has the BEST stories of any MMA fighter. Every time he talks about his experiences it's entertaining and interesting from start to finish. And the guy's got a sense of humor, too.
Cool dude. Probably Dutch culture. Keeps him humble and nice.
weed
tbh he doesn't seem very humble to me. He just said he was beating up Brown belts 6 weeks in :/
Well it's Bas Rutten.. he obviously had alot of hidden talent, and he's talking about TKD
I dropped his in one punch. It sounded funny to me.
Doesn't sound very humble to me, he actively went around picking fights. Sure they were with bullies from their past, but sounds like revenge.
Had been in a club at Stockholm, Bas just fought and owned the bouncers few days before, people there were still talking about it... The guy is a legend!
Bas is a nickname for Badass, wich is his real name...
No it means BOSS
ordep.Shotokan his name is seBAStiaan.
Your both idiots
Jean Wandrag Ha, well if you're not an idiot as well, then why did you say "your" when clearly you mean "you're"?
Bas is his real name its a tipical dutch name
I had dinner with Bas one time. He told me and my buddy some wild stories from back in the Pride FC days. The guy is every bit as fun in person as he is on film. Still one of my all time favs.

The fact he grew up in the same place as I was born and raised makes it all the better.
TKD is so fun to watch with those crazy kicks !!!
he was bullied, my God , he turned into one of the biggest bad asses ever .
i love how all his storys start the same.... so there we were in a bar, and a fight starts! your my hero bas
Haha, he has the best stories.
One of the most sympathic persons,I know. Great guy!
all fighters should be like this, this guy is fuckin humble and dont need to brag or be arrogant, hes a fighter with class. he knows what he can.
This PROVES anyone can become anyone, if they really want To!!!!!!!
this is awesome!! i love how he looked up all the bullies and beat their ass!!

Well that only applies to some schools I guess, because traditional martial arts is a easy sport to make money off of which make you end up playing over $1,000+ for gear and belt tests, and that's not counting monthly payments and tournament fees.

BAS is always fun to listen too !!!
i could listen to Bass's stories all day haha, he's the man!
How did Bas cure his asthma and eczema? Also, Bas is a hero of mine; anyone who confronts their bullies and wins is a hero in my book.
He used inhalers even when he was pancraze champion.
yes, in every single video he tells something interesting about his life. As he's into business at the moment (with Bas Ruttens Body Action System) he should consider filming a dvd about his life. it'd sell well :)
Bas is a great champion and instructor, very professional in a sport that has evolved, saved our skin and continues to keep us healthy. god bless bas!
He's the hero of all bullied kids!!! I wish all kids that got bullied, learnt to fight and got their revenge!!!
One of the most amazing people of all time inside and outside the fight arenas
amazing footage. a story ive never heard. makes bas an even more awesome dude.
he is the real deal. no bullshit.
I met Bas at the Gracie Fight Challenge in 2006. I told him he has the greatest one-liners of any MMA commentator!
The coolest man that has ever lived!
It depends on the organization or school. Traditionally most Korean martial arts use red belt instead of brown, but some do use brown instead of red. There are some organizations and styles that use both brown and red belt.

Bas is great.
Bas always has the best stories.
he's stories get me totally hooked
Great man indeed 😁 seems like so much fun to be around ❤
This guys is awesome. He remind me of myself a lot.
i agree with both of you guys, Bas is an awesome fight commentator
Someone needs to make a movie using Bas' Life as a script! Its much better watching a movie when you know there is truth behind what you are watching.
Hey Champ! What about that jump? The Split jump! That’s Amazing Man! No one else does it!
I love bas Rutten such a great guy but also a very dangerous guy I watch he's whole MMA pancrase career the way he trains he talks absolute legend
We need more stories like this.
ive lived my whole live with severe asthma and dermititis and i love to box :)
Thankyou Bas
Thank you Bas! The greatest!
I fuken love his stories, makes me giggle everytime.
I don't know much about this guy, but he is clearly an great example of humanity.
Well there you have it. The Grand Slam "El Guapo" Bas Rutten himself used a TMA and WON using that TMA. This man is amazing.
I would love to train with Bas Rutten, because not only can he fight on the street he can fight competitively; which is sucha great attribute to have!
i love my dutch brother !
it was a good ting to move to america for his career.
one of the best fighter and for sure oneof the most friendly and funny!
Bas je bent echt een held!!!!!!!!
Bas is my friggin HERO! Love this dude.
Thank you Mr. Rutten...
Wow, you shouild write a book about this (if you haven't already)!
Bas is so interesting to listen to.
Great stuff!! Bas is the Man.
I NEED to see this whole interview lol
I love you man!! BAS RUTTEN Rocks!!!!
The title is actually taken from something he says in the video. Thanks!
Every Taekwondo student Is learning for the Championship or matches..... Every day every night perfecting thier kicks.....
..but it's important to practice the self-defense punches and techniques half the time..... Because that is important for the street........ Even after ur the national level champion like me..... All the best kids
He is such a great guy. And he has respect for other styles.
That was a funny story. He seems so humble.
Eh?
"No more Tae Kwon Do for Bas Rutten"....LMAO
King of the one liners
i'm in the library watching this so I turned on the closed captions
i'm so confused
I wanna see Bas make a video of him telling us about the time he was here in Stockholm Sweden on a club when the bouncers went after him and he beat a few of them up.
he's got some mad life stories, an inspiration :D
I've always liked Bas. Besides being a great fighter, the dude has got more charisma than the majority of people put on a screen. That guy could tell a story about anything and it'd at least be interesting if not downright entertaining.
Ah yes now I understand after carefully rewatching it his first martial art was taekwondo
if he had astma and is like this now...
i can do everything....
thank you bas...
The title is misleading. While he may greatly prefer circular for himself(Kyukushin and Mauy Thai), he never said TKD was inferior or not practical in a street fight. He may have insinuated that his TKD dojang was a mcdojo or mcdojang granted.
bas rutten holds class and morals that todays generation seems to lack...i truely envy bas not only as a fighter, but as a human being, as a man.
@52canada He is not trashing TKD, it was his first martial art and he did reach black belt, like Anderson Silva, he is also a TKD black belt.
1:50 when i was 17 i teamed up with two other guys who always got bullied too - and beat up all the guys who picked on us!
Bas Rutten is my inspiration.
True training starts from first black belt, that's when we're beginners, everything before are prerequisites! So yeah like you say, definitely not godlike!
He is a perfect example of a role model
@DuskfallBand I agree. A good fighter who utilized tkd can be equally as effective as other martial arts.. It's how well the athelete is trained, and how well he uses the skills he has..
"After six weeks I was beating up the BROWN belts!" lol, it doesn't get any cooler than this.
@Dungarth Thanks :)
That's exactly what I do...I'll start learning taekwondo in 2 weeks and then I'll see if I want to learn a different martial art...
Alot of really tough guys got bullied as kids guess it helps the motivation
what are you talking about, Joe and Bas would be the perfect match. Joe is the only commentator who explains all the transitions in details for those who dont know the ground game
Bas rutten did taekwondo ... Hyped =)
Ah! The good old days.
TKD has some hella useful kicks, stance switches, and tricky foot-work. Combine TKD with a tad bit of boxing for angles, and judo to keep it standing and ur ready to go.
He looks like the real example of good health now!
I know how bas felt when he saw bruce lee. It's the same feeling I got when I saw the Harlem Globetrotters in Scooby-Doo and Michael Jordan in Space jam. It changed my life. If it waasn't for them, I wouldn't have wanted to play in the NBA.
He should seriously write a book.
dude, i fuckin love this guy!!!!! i hope all of the things he says are true.
Love his attitude
We are the
CHAMPIONS
I love this guy....
In some cases TKD academy or schools change color... example purple instead of blue, brown instead red... but not to many do it since the original colors are white, yellow, green, blue, red and black
Respect to Bas from Russia. Great person
He wrote a message online sometime about the event, but i'd rather hear it from him, he's so damn funny and clever :D
Check it out Bas, it's been a long time this story about you on you tube and guys are still saying your a good man. You could have made up a lot of lies but you didn't. You kept it real, right on.
