    What I love about Andy's demos is that he just says and shows what it does instead of forcing how "amazing" and "fantastic" things are....he demos it and lets us make up our minds on whether its good or not

    As an owner and lover of the DD500, I'm on the fence about potentially picking this piece up. It's obviously great, but I still feel the Mobius is superior. Boss always seems to fall a little short when it comes to phaser and flange, IMO. A little too on the nose and clinical sounding. Great for certain uses, but mostly ends up being in the "non-musical" realm. What really saves it is how user friendly it is. The new interface the have going on has been my favorite on any multi-fx type unit i'v ever come across. Either way, good job Boss on evolving your line !

    • @funkyfurballs1078
      @funkyfurballs1078 7 років тому

      I don't really think it was meant to beat the Mobius, just a more affordable option.

    • @sglangdon
      @sglangdon 7 років тому +3

      Vanderdude404 I've been dreaming of Boss to make this so I can ditch my Mobius. The assign menu is ridiculously powerful and going to let you do so much crazy stuff the Mobius couldn't even dream of. Plus you can use two effects simultaneously... The Mobius always felt pretty weak and throttled to me. Only thing this is missing for me is a bit crusher...

    • @MrMarcburger
      @MrMarcburger 5 місяців тому

      I own a Mobius, but what disappointed me is only 1 effect at a time. to add the MD-500 would sort me out.

  • @WTWASTHAT
    @WTWASTHAT 7 років тому +3

    Got one, love it. My only gripe is that you have to sacrifice your stereo I/O to use the effects loop. Would also be nice if you could assign a bypass function for the effects loop on one of the footswitches.

    • @Vanderdude404
      @Vanderdude404 7 років тому +1

      I just got an Orange Rocker32 with a stereo FX loop just too see what it's like. I think it's going to catch on and more amp companies will offer a model that can fully compliment a stereo rig.

    • @WTWASTHAT
      @WTWASTHAT 7 років тому +1

      I'm referring to the effects loop within the MD-500. Some modulations sound better if placed before or after distortion. The MD-500's effects loop allows you to place where you want the effects within the loop before/after/in between the modulation effects.

    • @plectrummx
      @plectrummx 7 років тому +1

      WTWASTHAT Hey, just curious in case you have an amp with an effects loop, have you tried to patch the preamp in the loop as opposed to a dirt pedal?

    • @patrickrosington1174
      @patrickrosington1174 Рік тому

      @Vanderdude404 It's not going to catch on or ever become a common thing except in digital amplifiers. To have a true stereo fx loop like the orange, you need a stereo power amp. Will will massively increase the cost of most amps. I'm guessing it would be mostly boutique builders that would do it. Since that's the options still for the most part. And it's a TON extra.
      And honestly I don't get the point. Fx loops are terrible and pointless for majority of players. Unless you player metal with crazy pre amp gain, they are useless. Especially in all these "vintage classic" type of amps. Where majority of people want power tube breakup (actually the power tube breakup most dream of is the phase inverter clipping). And fx loops are before the PI and power tube. So there's zero advantage to put one in at all. And on top of that, only a few companies have ever done an fx decently. And even then, it's a huge compromise. The signal coming out your pre amp is way too hot to go into a pedal. Which are meant for instrument input(some digital fx like eventide, hx stomp etc have line level options but it's still way too hot) the out put level from most preamp is between 25v-60v. So it has to be attenuated way down to a useable level. Which there's no good way to do. And the brought back up before going to the phase inverter and powetubes.
      Most people know nothing about how fx loops work. It's funny when I see people running their amps clean all the time. And yet, using an fx loop

    Yamaha should make a similar unit. They have some really authentic digital emulations of vintage units: Phaser, Flanger, Moog filters, UniVibe, Harmonic tremolo (I’m missing that one here), Rotary speakers, Chorus and Yamaha’s own Symphonyc...

    "...the last word in modulation" doesn't quite make sense since it's a digital pedal and digital chips continue to improve with time. The Eventide Modfactor was the "last" word in modulation, but then the Mobius came out. The new Boss is the "last" word in modulation, but something else will replace it in a few years time when the silicon improves.

    Strymon is the last word

    • @stevenvandemsky7290
      @stevenvandemsky7290 7 років тому +10

      Boss and Strymon have 96 kHz and 32 bit floating point processing, but when it comes to AD/DA converters they differ: Boss has 32-bit converters, while Strymon has 24-bit converters. Technically speaking, the Boss is superior. If that corresponds to sound quality is subjective...

    • @funkyfurballs1078
      @funkyfurballs1078 7 років тому +8

      If you can hear the difference between 24 and 32 bits... more power to you!

    • @savanaviolenta
      @savanaviolenta 7 років тому

      Even Strymon quality is 24bit/96khz to me it sounds more prestine than Boss's 32/96khz

    • @savanaviolenta
      @savanaviolenta 7 років тому

      Exactly you can't hear the difference if it was that important to the sound don't you think Strymon would incorporate that into their super powerful SHARC processors.32/96khz is a marketing strategy to make people believe it's something not heard before,well higher bit rate Doesent mean better sounding algorithm.Strymon is numerous uno and they set the bar so high that boss can't touch them by wphigh quality algorithms ,style and majestic tones .

    • @richardhunter9779
      @richardhunter9779 7 років тому +2

      More bits = more fidelity to PROCESS THE NOISE FLOOR. Modern DACs never have a dynamic range larger than 120dB. That's equivalent to 20 bits.
      Also, they are actually 1 bit DACs running at a few hundred megahertz, 32 bit is just the size of the number they accept. :)
