Boss is top tier. Most people complain because they have an internet and need to say something. They always say that the factory settings don't sound as good as Strymon and I agree. However, the Boss pedal gives you way more control. The complaint of default sound is a reflection of the laziness or deafness of the complainant.
I picked up both with the option to return either (or both) for full refund within 30 days which gave me ample time to dig in. Out of the box the Strymon sounded better - but as soon as I started in on the UI that Boss offers, tweaked some deep-dive parameters, I was blown away. The MD500 is outrageous - and has more horsepower and tonal excellence than anything out there.
@@MojoP Big major for me, it can play 2 effects simultaneously, which tbh the Mobius should be doing at this price point since it's made with 2 bank switches already. There's several Strymon pedals that are really good at what they're doing and good vfm like the zelzah and flint, but IMO the Mobius isn't one of them.
Around the 1:27 mark, it sounds like there is some sort of bit crushing effect on the boss. Was that intentional, or is there aliasing in the chorus algorithm?
I haven't used the Boss unit but I have the Strymon, and the Leslie effect on the Mobius is just top-notch. Some of the sounds on the Mobius such as the phaser and the univibe can sound a bit generic. I also love the tremolo on the Mobius.
hi Jay , great demo man , the both are awesome and sound beautiful , hard to say , but the Boss is to me more cozy and warmer sound , this is my ear , as always great video , take care man . Is I can what is your thought on boss amps , like Boss Katana , Nextone Artist (tube logic) ? thanks Jay.
Different - Boss adds effects to full range of frequencies. Strymon seems to narrow the frequencies, dropping out some lows. Most effects I preferred BOSS, but the STRYMON Flanger was hot.
I tried them both and bought the MD-500 because it's capabilities are way beyond the Mobius... I will admit that the Mobius does hace a much better flanger, but the MD-500 blows it away with its Dimension C, slicer, dual serial/parellel channels, much deeper parameter control, etc...

True... Strymon fans can't face the fact that the cheaper MD-500 is a way bigger bang for the buck than the Mobius...

Thanks for doing this. Been putting off getting the Mobius for years. This vid confirms my unconscious bias for one.
Glad I could help!

Boss so far has the best for me. Though the strymon has other sounds good for the exploring musician. Thanks for this side by side demo. Love it
I have both and prefer Strymon.

How can a top notch effect sound generic?

Hey, both are great pedals and capable of so much!

Less low end is usually a good thing for live performance and in a mix.
Boss sounds more bass, and Strymon modulation sounds more modern and bright which is my prefer.
Flanger tremolo Rotary - Strymon
Chorus , phaser - Boss
Was just thinking last week I'd really like to see these two compared. I need some mod in my world 👍
I love me some mod.... guilty of way too many pedals!

Sound and fidelity, is no comparison, Strymon all the way.
Too digital sounding
