dude you deserve way more views i swear, quality videos
Thanks so much, I'm stoked anyone watches them at all :)
Best guitar oriented channel on UA-cam. Hands down
Thanks for the love guys :D
@@LeonTodd I like your videos- clear explanations, easy going upbeat positive groovy vibe, helpful and no egos. Just fun guitar stuff.
@@LeonTodd + 1 here !
Always loved the Dimension
It's one of those "just perfect" effects IMO.
There are five modes in the 'DIMENSION'.
And you can have any combination of the 5 on at once!
Thanks again Leon.
I don't think anyone does a better job then Boss especially with what these pedals can do. For Delay chorus and Reverb pedals go I feel no one does it better. I have the DD-500 and RV-500 and I think they are totally fantastic and more then I'll ever use in my lifetime. Unless I became a full time musician and had days on end to spend with them, I'll never run out of possible tones to create.
I didnt like the basic sound of the DD, my TImeline sounds much more organic and warm
@@shckltnebay out of the box I feel strymon is warmer and easier. But I also feel boss is powerfully enough to do everything the strymon can do. I went with the big sky over reverb for warmth and ease of use. But choice the md500 over morbius for sculpting ability.
I bought the whole 500 series😂... Lost my index finger on my fretting hand a cpl yrs ago. Been playing since '96, so it's been my worst fear come true, sort of. Boss got me out of the gutter with this line
@@shckltnebay I guess it depends on your effects loop or how your using it. I have compared the DD-500 to many different pedals and with it's flexibility, I can match any other pedal sound with EQ and tweaking the settings. Funny what I'm starting to notice especially with Delay pedals is the all generally sound the same with very little difference. And when you have the ability to tweak them you can actually create the same exact sounds, especially the digital models. The Analog ones however do have their own sound. This is where I think more preference comes to play. Strymon makes great pedals but I prefer TC Electronics and Boss over them especially if you factor cost in. Also it's nice to have a set of controls your comfortable. Some of these damn things you can spend more time tweaking then playing LOL
Sorry about the finger man.@@mug1222
I've not seen much on these, appreciate your efforts and insight! Thanks Brother!
Thanks man. Very well thought out piece of kit
Absolutely fantastic vid- I just sold the Mobius for this and this is amazing as far as in depth fundamentals thx dude
So glad to hear you're digging it!
So digging the boss more than the mobius right? I’m split between the two any specific insights?
How you liking the MD?
Very informative demo. Thank you!
Much appreciated. There's so much going on with these units.
Excellent demo, makes me wanna buy one...
Cheers. I don't think it you'll regret getting one.
Love your videos. Very endearing style and method you employ. I think you have had sold me on the MD 500👍
it would be neat if boss made a mode where you could import a sound from a recorder and you could build your own reverb delay or modulation
I was trying to decide between this and the Strymon Moebius and wanted to run 2 mod FX at one time so this won out plus it is $100 less expensive than Strymon. But for delay, the Strymon Timeline is better to me than the Boss DD-500.
The Timeline is an inspiring unit
@@LeonTodd agree and my new Boss MD-500 just arrived today and I started testing it. What a fun amazing pedal! I need to dig deeper and make some demo videos coming soon. I am looking forward to the Strymon Volante as I love old vintage echo Binson type delays.
@@GuitarsAndSynths Are you happy with the MD I totally agree with you one the DD vs the TL
Dude, you’re the spitting image of a younger Paul Whitehouse!
Hahahaha can't unsee
Hi Leon! Do you know what kind of rates in Hz , I need for those evh phase 90 and unchained flanger ? Thanks man
Hi there ... quick question re: the pre/post function ..... Can you set the pre/post setting for each individual algorithm (so that a particular effect is always pre or always post when you select it with the program knob ?) ... Thanks
I believe it works on a preset by preset basis
Some of the biggest arguments against this thing is how it affects drives when you use before this one. Did you see any tone cuts from your drives?
I didn't get a chance to test that unfortunately. Modulation is finicky with where it sits in the chain though.
@@LeonTodd it does not play well with my fuzz pedal but works fine with the amp distortion. The tricky part is getting the flanger dialed in to sound like the MXR flanger for EVH songs and also to tweak it to sound like EHX Electric Mistress. Not sure what to set the rate, depth and speed on the MD-500 to for flanger sounds.
Can this be powered with 300mA psu?
Should do, i think 200mA is enough IIRC
What about the switches and going through presets?
... one (perhaps silly) question ... in these kind of "pedals" we can only use one effect at the time ???? or can we use simultaneos ???? (i've never used this kind of "boxes") ... thank you! great vid...
One at a time.
@LeonTodd are you sure? I know on my RV500 you can run reverb and delay simultaneously.
I've read many posts on reddit claiming that the Boss MD-500 has problems with high gain signal. Is this true? I live in Perú, so I have to actually buy the pedal to try it out. From what I've heard, the Md-500 is the better option, but I play mostly metal so If it does not handle well my distortion I'll go with the Strymon.
Edit: I use all my modulation before dirt, the only one I'd dare to put after is tremolo.
Sorry for the crappy english.
Hi i think its weird thinking about hi grain sinal as you said. Voltage does not change forma The guitar to The amp. Only after The amp input th evoltage changes.
No sorriso about this
Sorry about poor english
Im brasileiro
Rock on peru
Great Vid Leon, question, when your using two effects at the same time A+B, can you have both of them in Parallel on say the A button, so you can use the B and C buttons for different patches, example, patch A Phaser Stereo+Dimension Stereo ( in Parallel or Series ), patch B Stereo Panning Term/Dimension Stereo ( Parallel or Series ), patch C Stereo Panning ?
That's a good question and one I don't have an answer for unfortunately. I know Ryan from Plague Scythe Studios owns one of these so it may be worth asking him about it on his channel.
@@LeonTodd Leon, thank you so much !, I've just seen his vid and sent him the same question, I've just got one more question, is there a some kind of midi guitar pedal that lets you use DAW guitar effects ?, that can possibly store your fav's onto the pedal so that you can gig with them live without the PC or Laptop ?
@@staceycarras3815 being able to host VST's would require some kind of computer unfortunately. I just reviewed the Xsonic Xtone pro which integrates nicely with a laptop or iOS device, and that's the closest I can think of.
@@LeonTodd Thankyou Todd
Hmm have you paired this with an eco empress?
I have not but I would LOVE to :)
Can u tell me what settings on chorus prime u would set for zakk wylde dirty tone?
Rate at 0.7hz and depth to taste
@@LeonTodd ok thx ill try that. When i out on dimension chorus it sounds more like zakk then prime chorus.
Do you offer pedal tuning service? I am looking for a technician to set my rig up?
I can probably help. Leontod@gmail.com
Hahaha. Nobody ever knows what to do with the Ring Mod. Every single demo of this pedal ....
So is your signal chain stereo in this demo?
From memory yes
This is Boss
