    The thing is, even though he would criticize Paul's work, Lennon was probably the biggest McCartney fan there was. Likewise, Paul is the biggest John Lennon fan.

      John has often praised Hey Jude and he stated that Something was the best song on Abbey Road, so yes he was very capable of giving his bandmates praise.

      I think Paul was the one who started putting digs in some of his songs to hit John. John then did the same thing against Paul, altho they were more ham handed, not subtle like Paul's digs were.

      Perhaps so. And he hadn't sorted it out in his head that that was the case. I don't it's cliche, but I do blame Yoko. She was a controller and the fact that they both did heavy drugs together created a chemically-charged enmeshment. Controlling people's first order of business is to cut their target off from their support network and always keep them in a state of lowered awareness. They probably don't even know they are doing this because they learned this at a young age through treatment and not through the application of concepts explained clearly.

    John would not have wasted his time, stoned or not, if he didn't really like and admire the song. John was just as big a music fan as any of us, probably the biggest McCartney fan, and he could hear the brilliance in Paul's tune. He most likely wished he had been on the recording! peace and love...

    This was on John's 31st birthday. It's so funny how they carried on with Admiral Halsey after they sing Happy Birthday. I know they were fooling around but this version is pretty catchy..... maybe even album worthy. That's how talented Lennon was. Perhaps John was a tiny bit jealous of how big Ram was & the jabs Paul took at John.

      @datatwo7405 2 роки тому +2

      @@Noah1997callahan I never agreed with that ruling that George copped Phil Spectre's Ronnette's song, He's so Fine. They're two totally different songs that happen to use the same chord progressions. Today, that is not only common, it is commonly expected as well. It would have been different if George had matched the tone, tempo, rhythym, etc., but the arrangement, the lyrics, and complete feeling of the song are radically different. You have to really zone in on the chord progression to realize they're almost the same. But do you know just how many songs today and since have that same happenstance?
      And you are so right, that song would have been another showstopper had the Beatles done it together. It still hurts to think about their breaking up when and how they did. But hey, they went out on a super high, and that is one reason we see them as being so very important today. I don't even want to talk about John's death. Forty-two years yesterday in fact (today is December 9th 2022 as I comment), still rips my heart to pieces.

    This was really John Lennon and guests and it was recorded on Oct 9the 1971 at a small Birthday Party for John following an art exhibition of Yoko's. The guests included Ringo Starr, Maureen Starkey, Phil Spector, Klaus Voormann, Mal Evans, Neil Aspinall, Eric Clapton, Allen Ginsberg and Jim Keltner. So I don't know why some people think this was fake.

    I don't think he is making fun of the song. He is having fun with it. A lot of musicians experiment doing this because they really like songs. I was in several groups and during rehearsals we would often "play" with songs.

    • @boxsterman77
      @boxsterman77 4 місяці тому

      I think it's complex. I think on the surface, one would think he is making fun of it because he employs a comically flattering voice while singing it--as though it is material not worthy of sincere consideration, let alone emulation. But then there is the fact that he is singing it, he's not just singing it long enough to establish that he is mocking it and he bothered to listen to it and learn it. And maybe he was even aware of something he was apparently mocking, was, in fact, a subconscious tribute and a longing for reconnection.

    Seems John was still infatuated wit the rest of The Beatles music and The Beatles with John's music. John knew that "How do you sleep at night was bullshit" and that hisjab at "Yesterday" was his way of admiration".
    Even as a Beatle John used to goof on "Yesterday" implying it had been written by Ringo.
    John admitted that "Silly love songs" was a great tune he could not stop humming (bless John cause that was crap) and Paul claims "Beautiful Boy" is one of of his favorite top 5 songs . Funny enough None of Paul's songs are Paul's favorite songs while two Lennon songs are his favorites.

    I wander why people conclude they are screwing Paul's song. Maybe they were but there is no signal of that. We only listen people having fun in a party. Have they never been a party full of drunken people? That is how drunken and doped people sing all sings. One of his guests was Allen Ginsberg who was closer to Paul than to John. Paul even recorded a video with Ginsbert, the Ballad of the Skeletons. He helped boy with his poetry and even staying in Cavendish once. He would never screw anything by Paul. It is quite possible they liked the song. The also sung My Sweet Lord, which is by George. Laster John also sung Yesterday and not laughing so much. Quite seriously. We listen to John's voice clear. He changed the pronoun. Why he had to go I don't know he would say. He. No doubt he was thinking of Paul. And wondering why he left. You see, in John's mind Paul was the one who left first, and the one who offended him first recording " Too many people". Also Paul got married first. John almost fainted and decided to get married too, just a few days later. I don't know what was in their minds while singing, but there is no evidence of anything bad. I do enjoy. I feel like singing with them. Very good song, by the way. I don't like Linda's voice on it, though. He could not sing.
